Awful experience - website says it's disabled access but despite pre calling to say I'm a wheelchair user ,entry blocked by table of 10 plus. Sunday roast was awful , wet white potatoes and ditto parsnip. Raw cabbage, gristly beef, rubbery burnt Yorkshire all served up on a cold plate. One of us lucked out by choosing a burger and one of us did not, had the veg wellington and went home to be ill afterwards. Same fiasco to get out of the building - move huge table of people. By way of apology a free dish of cauliflower cheese and service charge not added. We are all local folk and will not recommend or put this on disability friendly sites.

Arrived here after a countryside walk looking a little wet and bedraggled. A very warm welcome from friendly staff. Drinks arrived promptly. Food was excellent and obviously freshly cooked. Not bought in and defrosted. Ambience and surrondings very pleasant and plently of space between tables. We went home very happy.

Food very average and overpriced and then they put a 10% service charge on top which is discreetly at the bottom of the receipt. surely it should be our decision if we want to reward good service. Lovely young girl that took out order & served us our food but after that we had to ask for our plates to be taken away and ask for another drink. My first aperol spritz was lovely but when I ordered a second one they could not even bothered to put any garnish in it. It was a very small portion of mushy peas and tartar sauce between two people and the chocolate dessert was a very tiny portion for the price paid. I will not be returning.

Worst ever pub experience. On arrival, a farcical check-in ensued involving rooms mis-allocated or not allocated at all & charged to the wrong guests due to inept staff jumping to incorrect conclusions, forcing one guest to change rooms after having partially settled in & then aggressively arguing the toss about it at the breakfast table the following day (clearly never heard the phrase "the customer is always right"!) This was no way to treat guests & took ineptitude to a whole new level. Perhaps the name could be changed to "The Fawlty Arms"? The rooms were way too, hot with no milk, no biscuits, a hidden kettle, very loud trains passing regularly right outside & a radio playing spookily upon entry. The TV didn't work in one room. The "staff" did not perform their normal duties. I sat with a pint for 40 minutes at a table covered in dirty cups & dishes which I had to move myself while "staff" looked on seemingly unaware from behind a bar with no customers. No-one bothered to clear the mess away the whole time I was sitting there. The food is overpriced & badly cooked: a "club" sandwich (£13.95) which bore no resemblance to the real thing, came with a miniscule amount of chicken, without its Wiltshire ham & had to be sent back, a bacon butty (£8.95) which came without its "Ruby's Tomato Ketchup" as advertised on the pretentious menu (a girl came with a sachet of ketchup & said something like "are you fussy about your tomato ketchup then?"), burnt gnocchi, strange lumpy curry sauce, inedible bullet hard (presumably home-"made") baked beans (I could've gone & got a tin of Heinz from the car) ... I could go on ... Breakfast came with no racks of toast, no offer of coffee refills, orange juice or cereal etc. One guest asked only for toast & marmalade; it arrived last & cold. Unsurprisingly, no-one bothered to come & ask if everything was OK with the food - it wasn't - we would have complained! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

Very disappointing, advised on arrival to be patient because we were a group of 15 and they should have asked for a pre order. The starters arrived within the first hour, the mains arrived after the second hour and we cancelled our desserts after 3 hours 25 minutes.. the mains were cold and small portions and the service wasn’t good at all with no communication throughout. Our experience wasn’t very good at all and left us very disappointed.

You would think looking at this pub it would be a lovely and friendly country pub with good food. Boy was I wrong! First visit and the last! Unfriendly welcome with wrong booking info, but with the implied discussion about an extra person on our booking, which there wasnt. Menu had limited choice and then they had run out of most things on the menu! Meals took a while to come, and were not checked on to see if we were happy. Ignored by waiting staff. My husband ordered beef which was supposed to come with horseradish sauce, when requested they delivered mayo with course grain mustard thinking we wouldnt notice the difference. I asked about a menu choice, had to remind the waitress of the question otherwise no answer delivered. This pub is not worth your visit or money! Expensive for a bad experience, with bad food and worse service! Avoid!!!!

I called in here for a quick pitstop and rather a long journey home. Very nice looking building nice surroundings they even have a couple of Boule courts. The French connection must be why they have decided to charge Monte Carlo prices for average ale.

Exceptional service and superb food Booked in for Father's Day lunch and we could not have been happier. Compliments to the kitchen team for one of the best meals we've had in recent memory in the UK. We couldn't help but try each other's food because it looked so good. All four of us agreed... Fish and chips were perfectly cooked with a lovely light crispy batter. The hanger steaks were cooked to perfection - just as requested. Side veg, excellent. Our starters were also superb (in particular the lamb scrumpets were a real treat). Loved the chocolate mousse tart. I can't usually find room for three courses but the first two courses were so good it seemed rude not to. I wasn't disappointed. Nothing was too much trouble for the team and even my parents (who are rather hard to please) were delighted with the whole experience. Thanks to Maddy, the front of house team and the kitchen team for treating us to an amazing experience. We'll be back soon!

Overall a disappointing experience at a pub which we have visited numerous times. Our second father’s day lunch and probably our last . We didn’t mind so much that several items listed were no longer available but the service was excruciatingly slow. Over 3 hours for a 3 course simple roast menu isn’t acceptable. And with a toddler extremely difficult. Staff were initially slow to take our drinks and the writing was on the wall when it took 40 mins for our order to be taken. It got worse. I was most upset when our starters did finally arrive without food for my toddler. The pub wasn’t full and staff did seem on the move but the younger staff seemed disorganised and not attentive. Though I must say they were polite and friendly. It was very frustrating to have several tables arrive after us finish their food before we even had our mains. Notwithstanding it was obvious other patrons were equally annoyed with the speed of service. As for the food the substitute starter ( scotch egg) was fabulous, the pork belly roast decent , desert ok at best. What should had been a pleasant and enjoyable family occasion was somewhat spoiled by poor service. Shame.

I visited with my wife for a break in Bath. The hotel is a 15 drive from the city centre so a great location in my opinion. First impressions were good, the pub was cosy and the staff were friendly. We were showed to our room ‘Avon’ which had a small terrace through a set of doors. The room was big clean and had its own bathroom. We also ate at the hotel and the food and service was great. The only reason I have marked it a 3 out of 5 is due to the music they play in the bar. The music can be clearly heard in the room, which on a Saturday will play until 11:40pm - we did complain and they did turn the music off at 11pm. The music comes on again at around 7:30am. Personally this is an irritation and would prevent me from returning to the pub to stay overnight. There was also a live band on from 7pm until about 9pm. We were eating during this time so wasn’t a problem. However, if you wanted an early night bring some industrial ear plugs!

Six of us had lunch here for a family get together. Food included fish and chips, burger, pie mash and greens and a steak sandwich. We had joined the Butcombe loyalty scheme beforehand so benefitted from the 25% discount on food available on Wednesdays. The servers were efficient and friendly and added to our enjoyment of the very good food. The bill attracts a 10% service charge. Drink prices, in common with nearby Butcombe pubs, are high. You might get a 25% discount on food but pay a 15% surcharge on drinks compared to other local pubs. Half a Peroni £3.40 so £6.80 a pint or almost £7.50 including service. The standard Butcombe Original £5.25 compared with £4.60 in some Bath pubs. Clientele were with one exception of retirement age. Overall we had an enjoyable lunch and would return for the food. We would go elsewhere if we were planning to have a few drinks!

Our 2 rooms were clean, modern and the parking outside the property was perfect and one of the most important factors in choosing this accommodation to meet up with friends. The staff were friendly, efficient and the food was exceptional. One member of the group had specific dietary requirements which were met with no problem. (Breakfast and lunch menu's) Negatives.... Too many automated emails about the check in and check out process AND failed to have replies to TWO emails and TWO phone calls which were made days before our stay to enquire about an early check in. Literally un-contactable by email and phone and lacked the personal touch. Having said that, I would stay again because the staff and rooms were fabulous!

The Northey has had a revamp and it is delightful. Much better layout and even the staff are happier with their work place. Not only that the food was greatly improved with more vegetarian options. We have been here quite often living near by and we will use it more often. My husband said his venison was some of the best he’d ever had and my parsnip soup was scrumptious . I had a small fish and chips which was delicious in every way. Well done everyone at the Northey, you’ve nailed it!

My wife’s soup was hot and very tasty. I had the gnocchi with squash and kale. It was an interesting plate of food. All the elements were perfectly cooked. A lovely mix of textures and taste. Nicely poured pint of Guinness, as well. Friendly and helpful staff on hand. Great place to eat.

We stayed here for 2 nights over the weekend as we were going into Bath for the Christmas Market. We stayed in Avon, which is a stunning room. The refurbishment is wonderful. The room looks stylish, very clean, comfy bed and the cafetiere and proper coffee was a lovely touch. We also really liked how the radio was set to relaxing music when we arrived...it added to the atmosphere. This room had a wonderful terrace balcony which we barely used because it was freezing cold, but it looks lovely. We have stayed in many 5 star boutique b&bs all around the UK and this room is definitely on par with this level. We were a little worried about the noise from the pub/restaurant below, but it was barely audible 90% of the time. The only time it was very loud in the room was when there was live music on the Saturday night. Perhaps a warning to guests would be good because we weren't expecting it to be as loud in the room as it was on Saturday evening. The bed was literally vibrating from the loud bass. This did however stop at 9pm, so it didn't go on late. So not much of a problem, just slightly annoying. The staff were all so lovely, friendly and helpful. Particularly the blonde lady serving breakfast etc the morning we checked out (3rd December). She was so lovely...big praise for her. Location wise, Its only 15mins from Bath and we took an uber in and out to save from hassle parking in the city centre. The whole place is such a beautiful looking country building. It looks so inviting and peaceful. Our only negative, was the food needs a little work on quality control. We were served burnt toast at breakfast and my burger bun at dinner was burnt. My husbands venison was also quite tough. Mostly, the food was good and has the potential to be top notch, but the little things that should be picked up before sending a dish aren't quite being noticed yet. However, the biscoff donuts are AMAZING! Overall a great stay in a wonderful cosy place.

Recently taken over by Butcombe this is a restaurant, not a pub but the food is great. We both had steak and it was perfect. The starters didn't come out at the same time and the cutlery for the main was forgotten, but the service...

Staff absolutely lovely, very friendly. Food terrible, Roast beef tough, Roast potatoes to hard to cut let alone eat. Won’t be back. Shame food used to be great. Father’s Day and a special birthday meal ruined.

Had the pork loin, usually a safe bet but here was tough, no seasoning. Service was friendly and pleasant surroundings just wish the food was better. Prices are a little high.

Great location to stay when visiting Bath. The room was in a seperate building at the back of the pub. It was decorated to a good standard and was clean and tidy. The staff in the pub were friendly. The food was nice as well!

Last night we had a Birthday Celebration dinner. Because of the size of our group we were asked to preorder which was fine. The food was excellent so compliments to the Chef.We were served by a young chap (Charlie), he was superb, professional and could not have been more helpful. This pub is a two mile walk from where we all live and worth every step. Keep up the good work,

In the 70s was ok, food was reasonable and reasonably priced. Now has delusions of grandeur, big plates, big price small portions, a michelin restaurant in the making pushing out the locals, wont be back. Fine dining prices, cold food and poor service

Visited last weekend, the Camembert to share was cold with stale bread so we sent it back. We decided to just have a burger as the starter had been so disappointing. The burger was ok, but overpriced for what it was. Just ordered an affogato for dessert in which we waited 25 mins. When the waitress appeared, I asked if she could get the bill and forget the dessert as we had waited too long. The bill came and was incorrect, it also had a service charge added. I asked for it to be amended in which the waitress huffed and walked off….I won’t be returning to poor, overpriced food served by rude staff!

We came for a two night stay over the New Year and to visit Bath, what a lovely surprise…rooms are beautiful, Spacious and clean, staff are welcoming and friendly, excellent service, lovely food, a lovely old refurbed pub, definitely good value and although slightly further out from Bath centre (about 10 mins) it was definitely worth staying here and would highly recommend. Many thanks for a great stay….

The food is generally really good and the service is good too but the last two times we have eaten there the delicious roast has been ruined by really over seasoned gravy - very salty and peppery and completely takes away from the flavours of the otherwise excellent food. The desserts are a bit odd and overly fancy. I couldn’t actually find anything on but he dessert menu that I wanted to order this time, which is unusual for me. My advice would be to not over complicate everything!

Popped in for Sunday lunch. Despite not booking, they very graciously squeezed us in. Delicious roast beef and pork belly. Fabulous flavours, & fresh vegetables. Amazing staff, so welcoming & the place is so cozy. And very importantly, clean!

We booked for Sunday lunch, a bit apprehensive given some of the reviews. No need to be at all. The Northey Arms is very nice inside, must have been refurbished not that long ago. We turned up 30 minutes early for our booking and the staff couldn’t be more accommodating. Switching us to a different table. Nice roaring fires as you enter and near our table. Waitress super friendly. We ordered drinks very quickly and then ordered Sunday Roast Beef soon after. Really tasty. Two thick slices of pink tender beef with Yorkshire, roast potatoes, carrots, red cabbage and greens. Lots of gravy. Ordered cauli cheese on the side. Food came quickly and was hot, tender and tasty. Could have had a few more greens.Service was excellent throughout. Would go again. Whole experience topped off by brilliant hand car wash service in the car park so left with full stomachs and a clean car!

An amenable start, we booked into the restaurant, for Sunday Roast / dinner. However we were put on a table right next to the bar - even though the restaurant was more than half empty, not a great start. We were looking forward to a hearty and warm dinner, sadly my roast arrived with someone's hair in it. This was taken away, and within 3 or 4 minutes a new plate arrived. However the food was tepid / luke warm, the gravy (of which there was hardly any) was so salt laden I could feel my arteries hardening on the spot, and the Yorkshire pudding was cold and felt like it had been sitting around all afternoon. At £20 a plate I was hoping for something hot, hearty and delicious, what we got was really pretty much below par. On the plus the kids puddings were welcomed. Overall the poor roast made the visit rather disappointing.

We visited Box as a group of 9 for a girls weekend away. We came here on the off chance as the pub closer to our air bnb only served jacket potato. Hands down the best steak I have ever tasted and all of the girls agreed!! As we were leaving we booked for the Sunday lunch which did not disappoint. Stunning food, excellent service, very welcoming and helpful… I would highly recommend.
