The best restaurants serving British food in South East

ordered a bacon sandwich and a drink this morning just to pay for well overpriced bacon sandwich more like fat butter and bread same in my partners sandwich someone teach this cafe how to make a bacon sandwich for god sake waitress seemed fed up and gave us unfolded napkins and then when came with food didn’t even say anything just walked away such good service! NOT. disappointed.

The food (especially the steak) was without a doubt the best i’ve ever had and the staff were super nice would recommend

We visited the premises for a midweek evening meal in August. We had pre booked the meal several months before, a must in high season. We were met by the new maitre de, who was in his second week at the restaurant. From reading previous reviews, he is a good addition to the premises. He was attentive and knowledgeable and made us feel at ease immediately. We opted for the 7 course taster, but not being great wine drinkers we sought advice. On his recommendation, we were able to share a ‘wine flight’ between my wife and I. They even gave us a spare glass on each course. This elevated the whole meal experience for us. The entire meal was sublime, with faultless service from the staff. Only one observation was the over attentiveness of the owners wife, who had a habit of over lingering at a table once a course was served. Sometimes less is better👍. Will we return ? Absolutely Yes! Highly recommended.

Had a late lunch. Dad had a fried breakfast & I had a meal from the kids menu. Besides the eggs being slightly overcooked, everything else was cooked to perfection! Highly recommend & definitely returning again! Staff was very welcoming, hospitable & friendly. 5/5 ⭐

Lovely gem that provides real fresh food( and I’m fussy about freshness) The Buddha bowl is the best one I’ve had anywhere as it tastes homemade. The smoothies, coffees and cakes are also lush!

My husband and I went for lunch today. WOW the service, the food, actually everything was outstanding. We will definitely be going back many times.

Great little craft bar beers to suite most palates welll worth a visit

Visited Stubbs on a Sunday lunchtime with 13 family members for my husband’s birthday. The food was very good, with plenty of choice (especially for vegetarians or non-eat meaters). Our waiter, Scott, was exceptional! He was extremely attentive and we never had to ask for anything; he was always one step ahead of us and asking if there was anything we needed. Thank you Scott for such an enjoyable visit!

We loved our time here, we came Saturday afternoon on reopening weekend and it was lovely. Staff were really polite and welcoming and the food and drink were great. Families and dogs were welcome and they had water for dogs by the front door.

Lovely spot nestled in the south downs. Great food, friendly service. A great spot for a family lunch. The garden is secluded with lovely views.
