Fish, chips and mushy peas, excellent service, excellent food, not greasy, polite staff, will now be my regular for fish supper

Always made to feel welcome. The food is freshly cooked. Very nice to eat in and whenever we have been everything we ordered was available. Very big portions. Crispy batter and lovely chips.

The fish & chips is consistently top notch and the owners are friendly. Their batter is thin and crispy and the oil is changed regularly. The restaurant is always very clean.

Family lunch at Ramsbottom, it was busy but we had quick pleasant service and fresh Cod and Chips. Would visit again.

I ordered take away medium cod & chips. The cod was excellent, succulent and crispy batter, but there were way too many ''small chips'' and crispy bits of chips. I've eaten in the restaurant & that was a different story, so maybe they palmed me off as I was taking away.

Ordered two large cod for takeout. One of the portions was at least 50% thick black skin coated in batter and inedible. At £7.50 each cod, this was poor value. Taste was average. Disappointing.

The best. Ultra fresh fish and charming owners. Spotlessly clean and refurbished during lockdown Have healthy options eg grilled fish, Jacket potatoes, crisp gluton free batter on request fresh crisp salad. Being from Madeira the owner knows a thing or two about fresh fish.

This was my first time back since lock down, I must say I love the new layout of the restaurant. My friend and I drove especially Saturday evening to come the Ramsbottoms as we don't live locally, it was well worth the drive. The quality was as I remembered, beautifully cooked large cod and chips with a generous portion of mushy peas in a separate pot not to reduce the chip portion on the plate. As always I will continue to recommend Ramsbottoms to family and friends, one of the best traditional sit down fish & chip shops in the Brighton & Hove area for quality and value....

Friendly staff and nice decor which makes a change for a fish and chips takeaway. The fish and chips and battered sausage are all excellent and this is another addition to the excellent fish and chip shops in Hove. Highly recommended

Just had wonderful freshly cooked Cod and chips from Ramsbottoms Visiting from France and always look forward to traditional fish and chips from these friendly guys. My wife and I have been eating in and having takeaway from Ramsbottoms for many years and the quality and service is always first class Laurie (France)

Wonderful chips, fresh tasty fish, excellent service by a genuinely friendly and lovely couple, overall this was just a great experience. I find it hard to get good curry sauce in a chip shop, and it was incredible from Ramsbottoms, I'll be going back as soon as we're in Hove again!!

Friendly place serving average fish and chips. Rather oily when I ordered cod. Not much else to say.

During these times of lock-down, it's so lovely to have Ramsbottom's just round the corner. With all the horrible things going on because of Covid-19, it's so nice that Ramsbottom's is open and we are able to get lovely, traditional fish and chips to cheer ourselves up. We're just looking forward to the restaurant side of the business opening again, so we can not only enjoy the food, but also the lovely welcoming feeling you get when you eat there.

Good place, good food, good wine and beer selection and good people. My daughter her friend and I went there several times when we were staying in Hove and really enjoyed it. The proprietor and the chef remembered us and were really pleasant, garrulous and helpful. If I was still in England we would go back there at the drop of a hat!

Was recommended this place by several people but this was my first take away from them. I was more impressed than I thought I would be. I would go back.

From the outside this looked a good place. The staff were fine, and surroundings, but we were disappointed with the fish and chips. Just had a small fish and chips but the fish was overcooked (ie the batter) and the chips weren't proper chips for a fish and chip shop. Mind you, we've found this with Brighton and Hove per se. The one thing they can't do despite being a seaside place!

On July 17th, 2019, at 5:20pm, I called the restaurant asking at what time they started serving dinner. Got one word as an answer "9". I asked "Are you starting serving at 9" (as it seemed odd to me they would start that late). Result - they hanged up on me. I called again, they wouldn't pick up the phone. How rude is that?

Lovely staff, great food. Had the scampi and chips which was tasty. The scampi was juicy and soft with a crispy batter coating, whilst the chips were served with plenty of salt and vinegar. More expensive than average, but I think Hove is apparently.

Friendly service, fresh fish and hot chips - perfect trio for a great lunch. Classical music playing as we enjoyed our lunch. Great value for money and so glad we found this little gem of a place !

Having tried all other local chippys (including wolfies,seahorse, bankers etc) I can say that Ramsbottoms are by and far the best.

This is my third visit here, eating the best haddock and chips in Hove. It’s a simple dish but one that’s executed brilliantly, the fish, perfectly cooked, batter, the perfect thickness and crispiness and homemade chips. The restaurant is the prettiest fish and chip restaurant I’ve ever eaten in, the fish knife is a nice touch, as is the classical music softly there in the background. Listening to the chatter of the other customers to the owners, it’s a real community hub here. I’ve lived here for 18 years and passed it many times as I had my favourite fish and chip shop and someone told me to try it, I’m so pleased that happened :)

A cosy little fish and chip place that is truly a find. The batter on the fish is the the best around ( was always a loyal Bankers fan before this place). Portions are good and the chips are great and fresh. Highly recommended

The food in this place is awesome! The fish is cooked to order and cooked to your liking. Have a vast selection of sides too. Good meal deals during the day. They are friendly and attentive. Visit here at least once a week for takeaway, nice restaurant but as I only live 3 streets away not needed. Check it out!

Having discovered this little gem of a chippie about a year ago I have been a regular ever since as the fish and chips is just how it should be, nice and traditional and freshly cooked to order.

The food was great. Batter freshly made and so light. Fish cooked perfecly and great homecut chips. Staff were friendly and obliging. Definitely recommend.

Ramsbottoms has changed hands over the many years but one thing that has not changed is the quality.. the fish is still fried to order. The service is very friendly.. when staff walk around with a smile it rubs off on the customers.

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time Both haddock and the chips perfectly cooked. Chips golden, batter crisp and tasty. Will definitely be returning.

I ordered from Ramsbottoms on a whim, as they offer a home delivery service, and very much enjoyed the meal, hot, well cooked and enjoyable.

Staying round the corner and had a fish and chip craving. Ramsbottoms seemed to get good reviews so gave it a go.Friendly service, great tasty food and at a good price. I can only give it a full 5/5Highly recommended!

My nickname at school was Ramsbottom it's actually Ramsdale. So obviously I had to visit the chip shop being from the North. They do them well.. x Enough said.

It does not matter if you eat in or take away the food is always great , the staff friendly and the portions large. I have yet to find a fish and chip shop in Brighton and Hove to beat it. It is the nearest thing to a Yorkshire fish and chip shop you can find. I will always return as long as it stays just as it is.

I've been eating here for 10 years, consistently excellent fish ,always cooked properly -crispy batter - Plaice is my favourite , of course the chips are also delicious , good size portions, fine food, and friendly staff what more can you ask for !!? Actually thinking about it if they added potato fritters to the menu it would make them perfection ! ( for anyone wondering? Potato fritters are thin slices of large potatoes covered in batter and fried) something we used to get in East Anglia -but not seen down here in the south, they always used to sell out as soon as freshly made and were good competition for the chip sales, delicious - always opted for these with my fish as best of both !

We've been getting our fish and chips from here for over 10 years. Anywhere else leaves us disappointed, great fresh fish and loads of lovely chips with great friendly and efficient service. If we moved from Hove we'd really miss our chip shop, to the point we probably wouldn't have fish and chips anymore, highly recommended!! Ramsbottoms - don't change a thing !

I'm not necessarily a fish and chip fan due to bad experiences at other places over the years. But on a friends recommendation I went along and I have to say the huss and chips I had was very good. Freshly cooked, crispy batter and pleasant staff. Well worth a visit.

Have been coming here for years, and its still my favourite traditional neighbourhood chippy in Brighton and Hove. Big portions, really well done, reasonably priced and with lovely friendly owners. I've tried all the others, but I always end up returning to this place as the all-round best value for money.

Nice freshly cooked food in a very welcoming family run business. No greasy food and a god variety of extras and sides if you wish. You can also eat in or take away.

I love this fish and chip shop! The food is fantastic- they cook it fresh to order and even offer the gluten free option. The staff are really polite and friendly and offer great service for the eat in restaurant. Highly recommend!!

I used to use a local chip shop a hundred metres down the road, but since visiting Ramsbottoms I have never been back. Staff are friendly and the fish has excellent crispy batter over good tasty fish. Food is freshly cooked. Their mushy peas are the best.

Ok I will keep this short beautiful firm fish full of flavour lovely batter great chips lovely mushy peas coupled with service friendly and happy never disappointed a regular there I normally eat in but if you do take away you get the choice of paper or plastic bag to put it in

We have visited this restaurant every time we were in the area and it has never disappointed. The fish is fresh and plentiful, the batter crisp and delicious, the chips are just as we like them and the portions are enormous. The service is efficient and friendly -we can't fault them.

This chip shop in Hove is a real find. The food is freshly cooked and the fish batter perfectly prepared crisp and not greasy. The quality of the fish is also superb and the chips are also cooked with care and skill. The portion sizes are generous and the hygiene is exceptional. The establishment caters for both dining in and take away and the staff are exceptionally pleasant and well mannered.In the Brighton and Hove area it is surprising that there are few fish and chip shops which can really stand out ; this is an exception to the norm in that it beats its rivals both on quality and price every time.Other establishments have lived on their names and reputations for quite some time but have failed to keep up the high standards of really good fish and chip shops that Ramsbottoms has now achieved. Words of course are cheap but try this place out for yourselves,for those of you who are fish and chip connoisseurs and I warrant that you will most definitely not be disappointed.

Our family went to ramsbottoms fish and chips Saturday night by recommended from the local people. We ordered large cod and chips . The size of fish is so big , the batter are so thin and Crispy . My children and I so enjoyed . Thank you chef . We will come again .

The best place for Fish and Chips in Hove. No matter what time of day the they are always well cooked and fresh. We ate in and the food was well presented and the service was very good.
