BELCHERS CAFE BRIGHTON: We don’t usually take/or got the time to review, though have to with BELCHERS CAFE IN BRIGHTON. . . . 😋👌🏾 We went there with Family & Friends. (I say this because the options on trip advisor is family or friends 🤷🏾‍♀️?) Anyhow let me get on : This café was just round the corner from where we stayed, so we went there just because it was close by. Though now having been there and eaten I will say I would drive take an Uber or walk to this café because it was amazing. 16 of us (broken down in 2 seatings because some had later check outs where they stayed) ate there & the food, ambience (it being a proper greasy spoon, which is what you need after a night of partying) was PERFECT. Though what was just as good as the food was the Staff 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 My Goodness, their calmness, togetherness, ability & understanding to deal with us hungover peeps that didn’t know our arse from our elbows was LEGENDARY. Even the customers that were already sat & eating were friendly & warm towards us. They even shared abit of banter with us (which was gratefully appreciated) this cafe clearly has good relationships with their locals & we could see that in the way they greeted their regulars, asking about their family members, So warm & welcoming. The ladies that dealt with us London-Lot deserve their weight in gold. Don’t get me wrong, we are proper raised people, so we are always polite, know our P’s & Q’s, and know how to behave in social/public settings. We were fed & dealt with with such understanding & neither of them uttered a cuss word, which we Londoners found refreshing 🤷🏾‍♀️. Anyhow I just wanna big up this cafe & Hope peeps will visit it. Deleted my last review putting this one on gave two stars my last review I thought it was too generous one star is more like it had the big breakfast priced at £11 when it arrived at the table a big plate of food but bland no taste really poor the sausages pale I ordered the breakfast at the counter by the time I sat down took my coat off the breakfast arrived on the table there's no chance you can cook sausages in that time the sausages I've had them before in a cattle market in Hailsham about 8 mile from Eastbourne absolute garbage the bloke in the cafe said they was premium 😆😆 baloney theres no meat in them there full of fillers if your paying £11 for a breakfast you want the best sausages not feeling you have been ripped off.

Belchers is, by far, my favourite cafe in Brighton for proper caf food. The woman who runs it is lovely and the food is plentiful and good value with the usual and great vegan alternatives. Cash only. Please go, it's great.

Hands down the best cafe in Brighton! Very reasonably priced, and the food is always top notch.

A proper old school cafe. No noisy music , only takes cash. No WiFi so encouraged to join in conversation.

Belchers is a haven in what can sometimes be a heartless world. The food is wonderful (bubble and squeak sublime, quality bacon) and the welcome is always very warm. If running a business with a good heart equated to money, the lady who runs it would be a billionaire. They only take cash, so pop to the cashpoint first.

Have been visiting Belchers & Jane for many years now. Started when my mum & Jane were friends & now when we're back from Australia we always put it on our place to visit with family & friends. Jane is wonderful food is fleshly cooked & she even caters for the vegan in our group. This is a must cafe if you're looking for a good old fashioned greasy spoon with a heart of gold doing the cooking

Quaint old school traditional cafe with lovely food.

I’ve been craving some fried bread for a while. After visiting this place I will not be touching anymore fried bread, or full English in general, with a barge pole for a while. Belchers satisfied the craving so much that I had to do a couple laps up and down Brighton pier to bring myself back to life. Had a man ever jumped to his death into the freezing ocean from a fry up overload… probably not but it was close to being a world first. The atmosphere cultivated is exactly what you want from any proper cafe. A warming welcome from a sweet lady which feels like she’s essentially welcomed you into her living room contrasted by some of the most bleak looking geezers you’ve ever laid eyes on solemnly chowing down on an extra portion of beige. The stain glass full English in the window was beautiful and lures you in for a colourful culinary experience. The reality is your in for ever shade of brown in the working man’s rainbow. And your reward you’ll find at the end is big pot of regret. Don’t get me wrong this is a positive review. It’s the real full English experience. It’s like I was in Layer Cake and was about to watch Morty take a kettle to the face. One bloke came into the cafe and the dialogue was as such (names replaced): Geezer 1: alright carol how’s it going? Carol: alright Steve, just the usual today? Geezer 1: just a cuppa tea carol Carol: so no food today? Geezer 1: nah a full English as well of course (insert look of surprise and disgust at carols suggestion) Notes on ordering etiquette: swapping of items is tolerated BUT not the tomatoes which in hindsight is fare. I respect da rulez from Carol. Carol knows about breafastnomics and she doesn’t hold back on teaching you. Ordering tip: an additional half size portion of bubble n squeak between two people is definitely enough food. You don’t want to find yourself staring into the abyss off the end of the pier. Only criticisms would be: - sausage was laid end-to-end (see picture)… savage behaviour - the egg touching the beans could be considered negligence - I can confirm the bacon was not cooked on a radiator Ongoing debate: is it acceptable to serve fried bread alongside untoasted buttered bread? Someone has since told me you should make a friend bread sandwich (normal bread outside, fried bread in the middle)… i will be returning to conquer such a feat

The sandwiches were really nice we had came from Sheffield on family business and were going back to Sheffield and did not want to pay motorway service charges

Fantastic traditional English café with a warm reception from the server.

Loved visiting this little gem this morning. The atmosphere is perfectly British circa 1996, I loved it. Even being on my own, I wasn't bored coz there were lots to look at. Pictures from the area (seeing what west pier looked like before the fire was amazing, such a loss), art for sale, hanging plants and other customers made my breakfast taste even better than it already would have. As a person with many allergies, having a 'build your own' menu is perfect. I had 2 rashers, 1 fried egg and grilled tomatoes. It was all very tasty, cooked to perfection and it was the perfect second breakfast on my last day in beautiful Brighton. Thank you for having me, Jane and Co

Loved this little place, had a breakfast, freshly cooked. Staff were friendly and welcoming , Jane, was full of smiles. Just what you need on a Saturday morning. If in Hove, this is the place to go for breakfast

This corner cafe is superb. The food fresh piping hot served by a very very special lady. Our host Jane is such a wonderful ambassador and it’s worth popping in for a mug of tea and watch proceedings. The locals endear to her hospitality. A secret gem!

This is definitely an old school cafe. If you like a good hearty breakfast to start your day and you're staying nearby - visit this place. They do a a great set breakfast which includes a fried slice (which I had never had before) and it was lovely and it's a great starting point for the day. They also do bacon sandwiches, sausage sandwiches and other breakfasts / sandwiches too. You'll find locals in there, builders who are working nearby on visit and general visitors staying nearby will pop in too. The lady who runs it is extremely friendly and helpful. I would imagine it gets busy at certain times, but definitely ample room to sit down and have a good breakfast or a tea and coffee. Cash only - no credit / debit cards accepted. Hours are in the range of - 8.00am / 8.30am until 2.00pm (check online first)

Visited Brighton for the first time. Did not want to pay for exorbitant hotel breakfast so looked online for a cafe. Lots of smashed avocado on sourdough which is not what we were looking for. We googled....greasy spoon Brighton and Belchers popped up. It was exactly what we wanted, the atmosphere was like being round a mate's house, food was perfect (full English), it was generous, hot and the eggs were cooked to absolute perfection.

This pub used to be my local in late 90s and was badly in need of a overhaul and investment! It has now got the backing of a chain and they have done a fabulous job in making it a modern and nice place to visit for a drink, but sadly the food is average at best. My steak sandwich was 99% Foccacia, it was very dry and the token 12 sweet potato fries for additional £2.99 was an insult! I work locally for a large company and will not be coming back to eat, sadly. Must try harder. Visit the Bridge Inn to see how’s it done! Thanks

Lunch time visit to this large pub on the edge of Shoreham. Comfortable traditional pub. Restaurant area was closed but bar area was open for lunch. Menu looked quite interesting but starters, Prawn cocktails and Calamari were disappointing. We all had fish and chips for main course which was also average. Staff seemed a bit run off their feet.

Cannot recommend this café enough, the lady that runs it is so lovely and talkative, the food is by far the best breakfast we've ever had, piping hot when it arrives, so fresh and delicious. A real character of a café. Will definitely be returning

I have driven past this cafe many times but thought I would give it a try , what a pleasant surprise ! Great cooked breakfasts , thick toast ! 😀 Great value and Jane the owner is very welcoming , now a regular cafe for me now .

Been going here for 10 years now. Jane is an amazing, professional chef & has a naturally friendly & welcoming personality, as everyone says. Great quality food, great price. And a great location, 200 metres from sea & location magnet for films & celebs. Check out Harry Styles seat (My Policeman), Kate Moss photo shoot, Steve Coogan & many others. Kitchen clean as nip. Bit of iconic Brighton & full English that should be visited at least once

Jane was a lovely host. On our first visit, we were given a warm welcome and a hearty breakfast - great value for money. On the second day we were greeted as regulars! Tasty food ( particularly the fried slice) clean and bright environment and a warm welcome.

It was a quiet day and I asked if dogs were allowed, only if they were well behaved. So my dogs and I sat waiting for my breakfast and I started wondering how the cafe stayed open? It soon became VERY clear, the lady who works there was so nice and friendly, she was such a lovely person. She greeted the regulars by name and had a little chat and my dogs and I were made to feel so welcome it felt like we had been coming there for years. Breakfast was ok, but the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming, it was lovely.

Cute and local eatery in Brighton. If you are in Brighton and looking for breakfast you should stop here. The breakfast was £6.50 including a drink. See photo for food. The fried bread was delicious, which I have not eaten since I was a little girl. And the bacon was nice a thick cut. The lady who served us was a lovely and friendly, and an overall delight.

I'd been meaning to visit this café for ages and finally got round to it today (21/Oct/2021). No frills, no fuss. Lovely lady owner (who doesn't read reviews btw 😀). Old-fashioned look, old-fashioned friendly service. Set breakfast (2 bacon 🥓, 1 sausage, egg, beans, tomatoes, fried slice, bread & spread AND a mug of tea) for £6.30! NB: no hash brown, TG. Next time I might go for the big breakfast: almost double the portions and still under a tenner! Recommended

The owner is a lovely member of Brighton community. She is generous caring women and that shows in her food. I recently moved to Brighton and this was the first place a ate, I love a "greasy spoon" but there's nothing greasy about the food here. portions are generous, delicious and its spotlessly clean. The food is home cooked and tastes great , It cash only and no frills. It seems breakfast have become over complicated these days and this place is traditional and fabulous.

Staying with an old friend in Brighton and we treated ourselves to a memorable Full English at this famous cafe .lovely lady-owner and great food.The atmosphere is warm and friendly and it is a real old-style place with appropriate real retro decor and an eclectic mix of customers from regulars,tradesmen,tourists and locals to the occasional film-crew Harry Stiles was in ! i covet the fab wallpaper behind the counter! best cup of tea for ages Thank You!

I'm shocked how quick and accommodating Jane is! So friendly too, we felt right at home our first visit. If you're staying in Brighton & want a PROPER breakfast at a PROPER price, you must go here! So glad we (myself & 2 kids) found this place at the start of our holiday, what a gem!

We decided to try this cafe for breakfast rather than eat at the hotel. We were very pleased that we did so. The food was cooked to order and was very high quality. The service was excellent and the food was very reasonably priced. We would recommend this to meat eaters and vegetarians alike.

Always fantastic. I love bubble and squeak and this is one of the few cafes to make it properly. The portion is huge too. Jane makes vegan food too. I always try to make it here when I come to Brighton. Please note that the restaurant is now back open Monday to Saturday 8am to 2pm.

great little traditional breakfast cafe tucked away down the bottom of Montpelier road, near the i360 . Full english, sandwiches & hot lunches at local prices for local people! good size portions and the lovely lady that runs the cafe, she will make you feel welcome & feed you till you burst!

Speciale il bubble and squeak, specialità del posto, un tortino con patate, cavolo e altre amenità, si può prendere anche mezza porzione che è già molto abbondante! English breakfast impeccabile, buono e abbondante! La signora che conduce il posto è gentile e veloce, fa tutto lei, prende gli ordini al bancone e poi cucina e serve. Il locale è piccolo con una ventina di coperti max, ma sempre frequentato da gente del posto, il che attesta la sua veracità! Assolutamente consigliato!

Bright, clean, quiet and friendly. Bubble and squeak, not to my liking, a bit too moist and salty (i don't take extra salt with my food - so probably why I can taste it even more). The only cafe that makes a decent cup of tea .

It’s worth walking one block back from the seafront if you’d like a great traditional breakfast instead of the overpriced hotel rubbish. I enjoyed an excellent breakfast here whilst in town for a couple of days visiting my son at Uni. Like other reviewers I loved the home made bubble & squeak. It gets busy around 10am with local builders who clearly rate the place too. Didn’t catch her name but the woman who runs the cafe single handed is just lovely, a warm welcome guaranteed.

This place is great. Proper tea, great breakfasts, even do things like a fried slice and bubble & squeak and all for really reasonable prices. Skip the chains, and the hipster joints....come here.

This is a true local institution. It is a proper old cafe with a lovely owner. If you are visiting, pass on the hip, ne shiny places and eat breakfast here - Brighton pre the social cleansing

Straight - adelante sabroso y abundante comida 'tradicional' de café a buenos precios. Esta cafetería local muy amigable está a cargo de Jane, quien no solo cocina una comida mala (para mí es una panadería), sino que es una verdadera mina de conocimiento e historia local (¡y de sus muchos personajes locales!). Belchers es el nombre original del café y Jane nunca lo ha cambiado (creo que porque es un nombre descarado un poco divertido). Lo que más me gusta es que las personas chateen entre sí y eso se suma a su carácter relajante. Hablando de personajes, Kate Moss hizo una sesión de moda en Vogue no hace mucho y hay fotos para demostrarlo. No puede ser malo! Creo que se abre a las 8 la mayoría de las mañanas, y 9 en sábado, y solo quedan unos minutos para el mar para dar un agradable paseo. The Lion and Lobster está a 30 segundos también. Muy recomendable.

Very picturesque local cafe, good food!

I have been eating at Belchers for over a decade, I occasionally try other cafs, but I always come back to Belchers. Jane's bubble and squeak is the best in Brighton. No stupid beans in a ramekin, just a proper breakfast served with a smile.

Absolutely wonderful experience, small cozy space tucked away from the busy streets, never met a friendly lady to serve me, whenever I come to Brighton I eill be sure to visit again, breakfast was a wonderful meal!

Lovely little cafe in the back streets of Brighton well worth discovering. A healthily sized vegetarian option for breakfast served with a cup of tea & a smile will certainly set you up for the day.
