The No Catch Co. in Brighton and Hove

Me and my husband and 2 dogs drove from London to try no catch. We were served by I believe “Jayden” (sorry if I got that wrong) but you were so lovely and despite our dogs making you jump (again sorry) your service is great! The food was absolutely delicious and worth the money, the deep fried Oreo’s was very yummy too overall 10/10. We went on a Wednesday so it wasn’t that busy :)

As a vegan for over 30 years...was lovely to have real vegan fish and chips! Excellent and nice surprise. Good friendly service and thank you to the team behind the scenes...they work very hard when busy!

5* for innovation, although the chips need improving as a softer texture would complement the crispy fish batter. As for the fish, it was good but was expecting it to be more flaky, as you would find with the premium frozen vegan fish in supermarkets

Loved it! I went back and ordered a 2nd portion of calamari - it could be the best vegan replacement of anything I've had... Chip not traditional chipy chips, but they were still great. The cod was fab. I'm so pleased I could have some tartare sauce. Highly recommend.

Not for us unfortunately, have tried to eat here for so long so was excited to find it open as had always been shut when we went there, Ordered 2 fish n chips, 1,curry sauce & 1 mushy peas with 2 drinks, cost £33.50 which is a lot we thought, mushy peas were scolding, (blasted too long in the microwave) and burnt my tongue, the fish was really chewy and neither of us liked it, it also smelt very fishy?? Weird, for a vegan restaurant to want it to smell like that, was very off putting, the chips were like chunky mccains oven chips, not like chippy chips ? so just had the chips n curry, so an expensive dinner unfortunately, wouldn’t go again, disappointing.. was asked how our food was as we were leaving, but it was still on the plate so kind of obvious.. shame as looked good.

The staff were amazing, the venue very well aid out and the food was incredible. The large size is really generous and it was painful leaving some chips behind. I massively recommend the tartar sauce!!!

Best chips I’ve ever had. Tried cod and smoked haddock which were incredible. Curry sauce was incredible. Loved everything. Would give a lot for a smoked whitefish salad made from something like the haddock.

The fish is incredible and it tastes really good. I ordered with curry sauce which is also really lovely. The chips are okay - I would like mine to be more crispy ( that’s why I didn’t give 5 stars). The service is fantastic and the staff is really attentive. I didn’t expect the fish to be so good. I am so surprised of how good it is - I will definitely come back.

Amazing vegan fish & chips, friendly staff and a good range of tasty sides & sauces. The chips were absolutely delicious, as were the vegan cod, battered sausages & smoked haddock. Portions are also very generous! The tartare sauce could be improved (needed far more pickles & capers), but otherwise a perfect meal

Food was simply superb. Knocked a star off because I don't agree with service charge being automatically added to any bill. Especially when there genuinely isn't much "service" other than bringing your food over. Would still recommend to anyone though :)

Thought I'd try it out as it stood out from all the other fish & chip shops along the seafront, first time trying vegan fish and chips and wasn't disappointed without definitely recommend.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was really pleasantly surprised. It’s one of those places that doesn’t do much, but what it does do, it does very well. I had the ‘cod’ and chips and it was delicious and hugely filling. To me, it didn’t taste like fish, but that really doesn’t matter because it was delicious. My main reasons to return would be the price (VERY reasonable) and the chips, which were perfection and probably the best chips I’ve had in decades!

I’ve tried their haddock and chips when they had a stand at a local vegan fair, but finally I’ve managed to visit the shop at long last. I was not disappointed! The food is excellent, crispy but fluffy chips; flaky ‘fish’ full of flavour and tartare sauce so creamy and tangy. The shop is right on the seafront, and whilst the interior was comfortable and welcoming, on a dry day I had to take it down to the beach to sit and enjoy. Staff were lovely and friendly. I look forward to visiting again next time I’m in Brighton.

Excellent portion sizes and quality of food. Even the meat eater amongst us was impressed. The chips in particular are something special.

The best vegan fish I have ever had. I had the haddock & I would highly recommend, pairs beautifully with the tarter sauce. We also tried the jumbo lemon prawns, they were so good!

I'm upset that I had to rate this so low because I love the idea of a vegan fish joint, but this joint uses veganism as an excuse to charge extortionate amounts for average food. The fish was okay; certainly not worth the price I paid and there was a service charge added for ordering at a counter (perhaps pay your staff instead of adding a service charge for bringing out one portion of food... I don't mind a restaurant service charge but I don't think anyone expects to pay service charge for a fish and chip shop!) The chips were the best part, but I fear that could have got just chips anywhere else and saved a lot of money! There are probably vegan options in Brighton fish shops elsewhere that don't rely on veganism as an excuse to charge you insane amounts; best to go there. I'm terribly sad I made the journey for such an underwhelming experience.

The absolute best chips on the planet. The vegan battered saveloy was really excellent too. But the chips were TRANSCENDENT! Can’t fault this place and am secretly glad I am not local because I’d eat there all of the time.

A delicious vegan and gluten free 'fish' and chips. Loads of choice for a celiac with a very well informed and friendly server. Not expensive at all, with good size portions even for a regular serving rather than the large. Will definitely be coming back.

The food was great. My daughter who isn’t vegan absolutely loved it. She could not stop asking to go back even months later. Staff was friendly. The card machine was glitchy but they eventually resolved it. I wish they had a location in Central London. They would do very well.

Great fish alternative. I recommend the Cod as the haddock tastes more fishy. Although the guy working behind the counter said he thought the Cod was the more “fishy” one of the two.

I'm only a part-time vegetarian so I can confirm that this "fish" tastes way better than any real fish I've ever had from a chip shop. The chips are amazing too.

This was our first time eating from No Catch, after months and months of talking about it. The food was absolutely beautiful. Best chips in Brighton, and the smoked haddock was phenomenal

INSANELY GOOD! I had the cod and my partner had the haddock, amazing little seaside vegan fish n' chips shop!

Fish was really fishy, pretty good. Wasn't that much of a fan of the calamari they got it too close to the real one chewwyyy. Chode sausages were yummy too. Will be back.

Surprisingly great vegan fish and chips! Even non-vegans enjoyed the vegan version. And also, the Service was great.

Nice service, cold room to relax a meal. Chips were tasty. Burger too oily and a turn off. I would recommend grill for real authentic taste.

The food was lovely and the prices are fair. A very nice place to eat, but unfortunately let down by a lack of heating. Wouldn't recommend during the colder months

As someone that was formerly on the dark side and now vegan - It's amazing how close the vegan 'fish' is to actual cod/haddock. The chips are also nice and crispy.

The best vegan fish and chips I’ve had, with fantastic service. The chips are the best chip shop chips I’ve had full stop - pre/post vegan. Only two tiny footnotes - the vegan fish was maybe a little heavy; next time we’ll just get regular as large outfaced us and left us feeling a little guilty at the waste, and being half underground the ventilation/vibe wasn’t quite up to the pace of other vegan options in Brighton. Still very highly recommended.

Always nice to find vegan fish & chips at the coast, even better to find a fully vegan business. The “fish” is tofu, which imo I don’t think is as good as banana blossom. As it stands I don’t think I’d come back for the “tofish”, maybe a battered sausage instead. Overall the rest of the food & that of the rest of my party seemed good. Prices aren’t cheap but you’re on the front & the portions are big. I might even have been fine with a kids portion & I have a big appetite. When asking for tap water I only got a little cup so had to ask for a refill several times so a jug or a bigger cup would have been nicer.

Amazingly good tofish. The texture was great and it wasn’t too oily. The chips were super tasty and we loved the ‘calamari’ and mushy peas. We had a couple of non-vegans with us who couldn’t believe how good it was. Nice venue with friendly staff and a fun playlist.

Not a vegan but food was exceptional. No waiting, good value and so very tasty.

As a vegan I do not go for vegan food that taste like meat or fish but my friend took me to NO CATCH to try out. Thankfully I ordered the kids meal as the main portions seemed like a big serve for me. Overall I was surprised how delicious the food was. Will I go back? Probably not. Only because I’m not a fish and chips gal. But I highly recommend you give them a try.

Every time we come to Brighton we have to go and have the best fish and chips in Brighton at No Catch. The staff are always polite, engaging and always welcoming and friendly. You could not tell that the battered sausage was vegan, it is so real and the cod and haddock are amazing. Would recommend this place to vegans and non vegans alike, you won’t be disappointed and probably won’t want to eat the other stuff ever again.

Great food!! One of the best chippies I have EVER eaten and I’m a non vegan. I had the battered sausages and triple cooked chip. I have been disappointed with every chippy I have eaten since, with none coming close to how good the food here was. Very clean and welcoming restaurant. Staff were very friendly, knowledgable and explained how and what the different items were made from as I said I’m not a vegan so it was all new to me. The care and attention that went into the food and plating was exceptional! Not what you usually get from fish and chips restaurants. 100% will return!! 5

I’ve eaten here in the past and service and food has been excellent. Today was shockingly bad! We arrived at No Catch. 2 folks were just leaving. There was no queue. We arrived as a party of two and ordered 1 regular and 1 gluten free fish and chips. The member of staff taking the order asked us 3 times if we wanted anything else and was very slow taking the orders but we let it go. One meal came out relatively promptly. We waited for 30 minutes and then a member of kitchen staff came out and asked what we ordered. It turned out one of the meals hadn’t been started. We asked to have the meal that had been made refunded (they said it couldn’t be made) as we said it would be cold on arrival home. The member of staff came VERY close and repeatedly kept saying ‘but is it cold though?!’ To which I kept replying- I don’t know but we’ve waited half an hour. We will have to wait for the gluten free meal to be prepared so it will be cold by the time it gets home. To which they replied ‘is it cold though- it’ll be 3 minutes’. They then went into the kitchen leaving the shop unattended. They then refunded the meal. We had paid in cash and by card. We had tried to pay in notes but they said they didn’t have any change so paid with notes and pound coins. However, once the kitchen staff member told the till staff member to refund the order (there was lots of eye rolling at this suggestion!!) we were handed a couple of notes and the rest in very small denominations of coins!! This felt quite petty and obviously we had previously been lied to about there not being change (upon counting it later we were not given a full refund but only a few pence too little!) A member of kitchen staff came out maybe 15-20 minutes later to give us the other meal and said it wasn’t their fault the ticket got lost. I said I would accept that but it was the rudeness of the colleague that I was and still am unhappy with. To have someone right in your face going ‘is it cold?!’ And rolling their head at you is a bit much?! We were also told she was too anxious to speak to us. To which I disclosed that communicating verbally makes me anxious as I am autistic and this whole experience was profoundly difficult for me. We’d been there an hour and by this point I knew I couldn’t trust the food. The member of staff then kept saying they were autistic and too anxious to speak to me which made me incredibly angry. Autism is a disability but I never use it in my work as an excuse for not doing my job properly or being rude/ acting unprofessionally. I would understand if it was busy, but it was dead in there. They made one meal instead of two. We would also have been happy to wait but it was the rudeness and the justifying that the food was cold and being right in our personal space. We didn’t eat the food obviously as one meal was cold and when you are coeliac you need every faith your food is actually gluten free and prepared with care. That was our decision not to eat the food. There is a zero percent chance we will ever return. We also asked for management details to discuss further but were told to look up the Instagram page. I do not use Instagram so leaving a review on here. Staff really need more customer service training and a responsible senior member of staff on each shift to deal with such mistakes.

It's amazing to have a place on the seaside that is 100% vegan! I really enjoyed the food and my partner who isn't veggie really enjoyed it too! The server was super helpful in helping us decide what to choose from the menu which was much appreciated ☺️

Stopped by for some vegan fish and chips. The 'cod' is the best I've tasted, really flavoursome and pretty believable too. Chips and mushy peas were also delicious. Good portion sizes and the prices were decent at £11.49 and £13.00 for a large. When I went it wasn't especially busy and wouldn't say there was a 'dining in' atmosphere but staff were nice and food was brought to us in good time. Very much enjoyed and would recommend / go again.

Bloody brilliant vegan fish! I've tried one or two vegan fish alternatives but this vegan fish here is insane. It's beautiful, so tasty I almost thought it was actuel fish! Chips were also lovely, perfectly cooked and the guy serving us was great and very happy that we enjoyed our food. Will definitely recommend and visit again.

Superb vegan fish and chip options including a saveloy We went there as soon as it opened and got a seat inside. Despite being below ground it felt airy and well lit The saveloy felt like a vegan hot dog in consistently but the flavour was that of a saveloy I asked the lady behind the counter (there is no table service) how they differentiated between the cod and the haddock and apparently it's liquid smoke or a smokey flavour A really great experience

This place should be called Treat yo self! - no catch!!!Delicious vegan smoked haddock and chips and the best vegan tempura prawns. Totally worth every penny. Staff are kind and the place is usually busy but worth the wait. I would go again and again. Vegan tartare sauce was divine. I thoroughly love this place. Sat on the beach and enjoyed this delight!

Visited here on Saturday 7th October, and I have to say, the food here is perfection. Gorgeous chips, and the no fish fish is so realistic and delicious! However, the service was the standout here - to the politics student serving us at the till, you were so polite and a pleasure to chat to, I hope your manager sees this because you're a credit to No Catch. Thanks again!

Possibly the best chips I've ever tasted! No fish fish was lovely too.

No catch has elevated the chip to art - these are the best chips I've had in the UK. Crisp on the outside, deliciously fluffy on the inside. The texture and flavor of their vegan fish was also incredible. If you're vegan, come have this experience. If you're not vegan, come have this experience!

A really lovely place to eat. The tempura 'no' prawns and tartare sauce and the battered vegan sausages (eaten by non-vegan hubby) were all lovely.

The food was excellent but the place needs a good clean and the poor plants definitely need some tlc . The lack of care is quite obvious at the entrance ...the toilet also needs a clean and lick of paint . Not sure I'd go again unless it was cleaned up ....

Quite expensive for what it is, paid £14 for “fish” and chips. The “fish” wasn’t that nice for me- however I never liked fish anyway, so I think a veggie/ vegan who used to like fish would love this!. Chips were great , in future I’ll stick to just chips and beans/ peas. A nice vegan option 🙌

I enjoyed the battered sausage but wasnt a fan of the fish (tbf i didnt like it before i was vegan but have enjoyed tofish previously) - chips were nice but more posh than fish & chippy chips! Great to have a vegan chippy on the seafront though

Overpriced for standard food. Calamari tasted like plastic.

The food was AMAZING! The fish was great and tasted like fish (even to the non-vegans) and the texture was on spot. It’s very clean and we were asked about our allergies while ordering (very considerate). The only criticism that we were able to come up with is that the cutlery is made out of wood and isn’t proper cutlery.

This is a fantastic place, 100% vegan and conveniently located on the sea front in central Brighton. We ate in as we visited on a very windy & wet Wednesday, and found plenty of seating. The team are friendly (and vegan!) and service was fast. Both opted for regular cod and chips, with mushy peas. I have never had tofu like it before - the texture is amazing and the flavour is really good. Perfect batter coating too. Our only grumble was the chips arrived covered in salt - way too much for our liking, especially as we're now of an age where it's important to avoid too much salt, so I couldn't finish mine. Vinegar & salt is also available on the tables, so it would have been nicer to add our own if required.
