Kindling in Brighton and Hove

Beautiful little restaurant. Staff were lovely and friendly. Had the meat platter to share.

We had a lovely family dinner at Kindling last night while in Brighton for a short break. We all had steaks (2 sirloins and 2 ribeyes). They were all perfectly cooked. The skinny fries were delicious, as were the creamed spinach and hispi cabbage. The service was very friendly, if a tiny bit slow according to our super hungry 12 year old who wolfed down her food the minute it arrived! The only (tiny) negative was that the food was over-seasoned for me. I prefer to have a bit less salt and the option to add it at the table. There was salt and pepper on the table but I’d be surprised if it’s ever used! All in all, a delicious meal in a lovely setting.

Los 2 chefs eran encantadores y amables y conocedores de la comida servida y opciones sin gluten. La mesa estaba disponible rápidamente y pedimos el plato de compartir. Las patatas asadas son absolutamente impresionantes con la salsa de vino tinto! ¡Podría haber comido un plato entero de solo ellos! El filete era encantador y suculento y las verduras sabrosas y bien cocidas. El personal era muy amable y servicial y comprobó que todo estaba bien con la comida. No tenía espacio para el postre, pero sin duda volveré!

So good! Had a late Thursday lunch here with family, friends, and baby daughter. I wouldn't normally choose steak, but our bavettes were superb, tender, juicy, and perfectly grilled. My partners burger was stacked, oozing and enormous. The side salads were a crisp, vibrant, fresh, crunchy meal in themselves. Staff were amazing, thanks to Lily and chef for showing our toddler the flames, bringing out the birthday cake, and looking after all of us. Definitely recommend Kindling. You'll need to book!

This is just what Brighton needs. A cosy Steakhouse in the City centre serving unfussy and elegant dishes. I ordered the Ribeye steak (medium rare) and my kids had the House Burgers, which were enormous! All was cooked just right and seasoned well. We followed with a Mango & Passion fruit cheese cake which was a nice way to end the meal. I would definitely go again!

Absolutely loved everything about our visit to Kindling last night. I thought it might be quiet as it was a Tues night but the atmosphere was buzzing. The midweek sharing platter was great value and everything was cooked to perfection. The sides and sauces were delicious. All the waitresses who dealt with us were really lovely and attentive. Even though it was busy we didn't wait too long for food at all. We will definitely be back again soon. Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing food and service. We took our son here for his 18th . He had the wagu steak, I had the sirloin both were incredibly, cooked and seasoned to perfection. Really nice mac and cheese and side dishes. Would recommend.

On a bustling Sunday evening in Brighton, Kindling was alive with a steady hum of conversation and the occasional clink of cutlery. The crowd spoke volumes - this is a place that has earned its popularity. With tables full, I was offered a seat at the bar overlooking the open kitchen - a front-row seat to the action. And action there was: two chefs running a tight and busy ship, clearly under pressure, but never compromising on quality. Kindling’s signature use of charcoal cooking shines through in their sirloin steaks. Cooked precisely to order and rested with care, the steak had a well-judged ratio of fat to lean, elevated by that unmistakable kiss of smoke from the grill. The accompanying peppercorn sauce was well-balanced, neither overpowering nor timid, and a sample of their mushroom sauce offered additional depth - earthy, savoury, and seasoned with finesse. Sides included a comforting mac and cheese - creamy, just cheesy enough, though I found a dash of mustard brought an extra dimension that suited my palate. Less successful were the chips. Not the skinny, crisp French-style frites I had hoped for, but a more rustic cut that lacked that satisfying crunch. A minor disappointment in an otherwise strong showing. Despite the extended wait for food - a natural consequence of the stretched kitchen team - the experience remained enjoyable. Being seated at the bar gave a rare and honest view into the rhythm of a working kitchen. The chefs, doubling as servers at times, were personable, attentive, and clearly proud of their craft. Would I return? Absolutely. Kindling delivers flavour-forward food prepared with skill and care. Next time, though, I’ll be hoping for a mountain of proper skinny fries to complete the picture.

+ Burger was very nice, the patty is just enormously high and cooked well. + Grilled cabbage was a surprise with what cabbage could taste like! - Pulled Brisket Brioche was too sour and salty, disappointed - Overpriced. Moreover, main dishes do not include sides. So, a burger for 15£ is just a burger. You would need to pay 6£ more for the side dish.

The food was okay but nothing special—just very average with no unique flavors or standout dishes. It felt more like something you'd expect at a basic restaurant rather than a place trying to offer a high level dining experience. The seating arrangement was uncomfortable. Tables were packed extremely close together—barely 10 cm apart—making it hard to enjoy a private conversation. Service was another letdown. For example, no one bothered to replace our napkins, and the cutlery was placed directly on the table, which hadn't been cleaned.

Absolutely delicious meal with wonderful service. The staff were all lovely and were accommodating with our mobility scooter which was a pain to begin with! The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection and the sides were tasty and complimented it well. The cocktails were also lovely and well priced.

Great restaurant and food, it was my first time going, caught me by surprise that the steak didn’t come with a side or the waitress didn’t add it as a side making a salad 5 pounds when in reality it should of been a side to go with the meal?

We went to Kindling for our anniversary meal and it was incredible. Genuinely the best meal we have ever had in Brighton. I could not recommend it more. 10/10 service, 10/10 cocktails and 10/10 food.

Was really looking forward to visiting Kindling but sadly it did not live up to the hype. The food was ok, but in my opinion there are better options in Brighton for similar food. It’s worth mentioning that the cocktails and desert, cheesecake in particular were excellent though. Sadly the service was the real disappointment. On arrival of our food we were missing a couple of sides. I could see our server then proceed to start serving the table behind us so politely mentioned we were still waiting on them - the sever very abruptly responded with “they’re coming”. By the time they arrived the steak was lukewarm which is not what you expect for spending £46 on steak. What was even worse is on delivering the spinach the server reached over me to find space on the table and natural instinct was to reach for the plate right in front of my face and put it on the table. On doing so the skillet was boiling hot causing the side to drop on the steak and on the table - no warning was given to how hot the dish was nor should it have been laid right in front of my face given how hot it was. Nothing was said, no apology, just taken away and another one put on the table a couple of minutes later. On the booking notes I had also put it was my husband’s birthday and this wasn’t acknowledged once. Overall really disappointing and sadly won’t be back nor would recommend.

Food was good! Apart from my dining partner had a raw lamb chop. That said, we did inform the staff and they took it back and bought back a cooked lamb chop. Overall good service and happy, but I would question whether they are temping their food if they’re bringing it out raw! Anwyay, good experience bar the food issue.

1st time at Kindling and it’s fair to say it won’t be our last. The whole experience exceeded expectations and can see why this gem of a restaurant has been getting such rave reviews. Whilst the steak was the star of the show the creamed spinach and salad and fries were equally delicious. Didn’t have a pudding but from what I saw they looked fab too and that’s another reason to return. Great job everyone and thank you for a delightful Saturday late lunch.

Decided to try the £15 lunch special, either the 200gr House Bavette & fries or the 7oz House Burger & fries. Upgraded £1.50 for the Sweet Potato Fries. Latter was an excellent choice, best Sweet Potato Fries I've had out in a long while dusted with a great herby/salty seasoning. Both the burger and steak were delicious and perfectly cooked. Along with the cheery service and pleasant surroundings a 10/10.

Visited with my partner for her birthday. We ordered the t - bone steak, 2 sides and 2 glasses of wine. Everything was perfect. The steak was the best I've ever had and was enough to share. The atmosphere was amazing and staff very friendly. Would 100% recommend and is responsibly priced

Upon first impressions, the restaurant looked well laid out and quite pretty. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t quite so well laid out. The stakes come on a plate on their own with chips in a side bowl which was very underwhelming. The waiting staff eventually attended to us and asked us what drinks we wanted and then when they asked if we wanted any nibbles, didn’t actually give us a chance to answer them before walking off . This also happened after our meal was brought to the table when they asked about condiments. My husband ordered the wagyu steak and I ordered the normal steak. The wagyu steak was slightly underdone when we asked for medium. The other steak was well overcooked, however surprisingly the overcooked steak tasted better than the Wagyu. Our food took a very long time to come to our table for which they did apologise but the staff looked like they were running around like headless chickens despite the restaurant not being full. All in all this was a bit of an underwhelming experience.

Archie cooks a banging steak and his wing man makes a sweet chimichurri sauce. Would recommend 5/5

Classic steak and sides but done really really well! A great team of staff but in particular the two chefs (possibly called Archie and Tom?) in the open fire kitchen. As I was sat at the bar they were in front of me the whole evening and were super friendly, chatting a way to me while working really hard with smiles on their faces. Cheers for a tasty dinner, breakfast recommendations and a bit of company lads!

Basque cheesecake the hidden gem!

After hearing great things about this restaurant I was sceptical being a fan of other local steak places, however I have to say it really was fantastic! The atmosphere was cosy and chill, whilst the food was one of the best I have had. We had the mid week sharing platter which was great value for Money and perfectly cooked. I would recommend to anyone that is looking for some good steak!

Went here for dinner on Saturday night with my wife and 13 year old daughter. Despite only having been once previously with my daughter around 3 weeks, ago we were given an exceptionally warm and friendly welcome by the very charming and professional manager, Davide, who remembered us from berfore (he was super helpful accomaditing myself and my daughter at the last minute on a busy Friday night at the counter (would recommed as you can see the chefs at work). Unfortunately the Tomahawk special for 2 had finished (tip - book ideally Mon - Wed) so we all went for the Sirloin (medium rare) cooked to perfection. Succulent, well seasoned and flavoursome. We additionally ordedered some skinny fries and grilled hispi cabbage (particularly good with the steaks). The staff here are top class, friendly and professional service. Look forward to returning soon to what is now a firm family favourite in Brighton.

Lovely, cosy little restaurant. We shared the chateau briand steak and it was nice but not as standout as we expected - there was a lot of gristle and the fat didn't melt in your mouth as you'd hope. The portion was also very small to share considering it was supposed to be 450g. The sides and sauces were delicious. We were a little rushed at the table due to the next booking but overall the staff were very nice and attentive. We also had starters and cocktails which were delicious - especially the pork bites. I'd be keen to try other local restaurants before rushing back.

Visited Brighton for the day and saw great things about Kindling on tiktok so we had to see if it was worth the hype. It definitely was delicious! Our server was kind and welcoming. We enjoyed the pulled beef brioche roll & shared some mac and cheese and chips outside in the sunshine. The chips were delicious 10/10. I would love to come back try their sunday roast... hopefully when the weather gets better!

A good place to eat, as usual in the UK it is expensive but delicious and pleasant.

I love steak, and this place deserves a 10/10—the steak was cooked perfectly and the portion size was great. The creamed spinach could use some improvement, as it was too soggy. My daughter had the macaroni and cheese—it was just okay.

Had an excellent first experience at Kindling. Service was immaculate from the moment I entered, the decor was stylish, and for the size and quality of the portions, the price was very reasonable. I was sat at the counter by the kitchen - the chefs were efficient, friendly and clearly passionate about the food they were serving. I was also lucky enough to get a bonus dish - a new plate that they were trialling (it was delicious). Can't fault a single dish I ate - everything was tasty, beautifully presented, and very generously portioned. Can't recommend this place enough, thanks for a great experience!

Incredible. We dined tonight on table 10 and it was Devine! We had the croquettes to start then a côte de boeuf to share with chimichurri and mushroom sauce. Sides we had sweet potato fries and mac n cheese. All of the food was incredible but the star of the show was the steak so good in fact we ordered two!! A brilliant experience with great service, talented chefs and busy vibe and overall brilliant night.

Charlotte was an amazing server, food was incredible as well as the vibe. They had a technical fault but all dealt with it so well! Would come back in a second!

We drove 15 miles to try this restaurant, and it was absolutely worth every mile. As restaurant owners ourselves, we truly appreciate those special moments of gourmet tasting – and this place delivered on every level. From the warm welcome by the staff to the friendly chat with the maître, we felt right at home. The cocktails were spot on, perfectly mixed and full of flavor. We started with a platter and a kid’s mac ‘n’ cheese for our 10-year-old daughter – and to our surprise, she managed to finish her meal and even tried most of ours! That says a lot, considering how particular she can be with food. We were so impressed that we ended up ordering the slow-cooked brisket burger – and wow, what a treat! Tender, juicy, and packed with flavor – it was an absolute highlight. Even though the atmosphere was lively and a bit noisy, our table was right in front of the open kitchen, which gave us a front-row seat to the chefs in action – something we truly enjoyed. As fellow food lovers and professionals, we can confidently say the quality here is exceptional. Absolutely recommended – we’ll definitely be back!

The food was absolutely delicious but unfortunately we had to wait around an hour to receive it. The service was friendly and polite just very slow from the kitchen side of things. The restaurant was not busy as it was late afternoon. We cook steaks at home all the time so we know how long it takes to cook. ... not an hour! We didn't complain as we weren't in a rush but was mindful the children were starting to get fidgety! When the food arrived we tucked in eagerly and savoured every mouthful. We had a sharing platter (which included bavette, sirloin and lamb chops) with an extra rib eye steak, a salad and 2 macaroni cheese. Would have been great if they had fillet steak as a choice of cut but what we had was very tasty. Well cooked (medium rare) and well seasoned. My husband wanted a coffee so we decided to have a couple of desserts too. The drinks arrived promptly but again had to wait a while for the desserts. These were worth waiting for. Satisfied the sweet tooth! I felt where we sat was a tad chilly but I expect it can't really be helped as they have to have strong extractor fans due to the open kitchen. The meal came to just under £190 for 2 adults and 3 children. For the quality of food and drinks, it was good value. ..just not sure if we would be back again in a hurry because of how long the food took. If we were to come back then it would have to be on another school holiday when we don't have to rush to get back home. I would recommend this restaurant as the food is really good but you do need to be happy with a very leisurely pace of dining (something which is hard to do with hungry children).

Honestly, one of the best dinners we had in Brighton! Food was 10/10 (we both had the steak, which was perfectly cooked + sides, starters and dessert). The service was excellent, always careful and responsive, but not intrusive at all. Plus: it was my boyfriend’s birthday and they made him a very cute plate with birthday wishes. Super cozy atmosphere! Couldn’t recommend more!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We sat at the kitchen bar and chatted with the busy but unfailingly friendly chefs. Watching them work was a lot of fun. We had a platter of two cuts of beautiful steak and some delicious, unctuous lamb cutlets. Sides were very good and the sauces were to die for (particularly the chimichurri). Excellent Basque cheesecake and sherry to finish. Do go.

We always have such an amazing time at Kindling. Demi and the front of house team always pull off exceptional customer service, and Ewan and the kitchen serve up the best value for money food, consistently. Never had a bad meal in this place. If you haven't been and you LOVE steak, you MUST go!!!

What started off a nice afternoon, ended with the girl who seats people staring at our table looking completely stressed, so when we were handed the bill before we could order anything else, we knew we were getting asked to leave. I said to my wife, I think they’re hurrying us to leave for the table (we had been there an hour and a half)….then the stressed seating girl came over and asked for the table back, just as I had presumed. I would have no problem with this generally, but there is no indication on the website, and there was no communication from the staff when entering that they would need the table back after an hour and a half! Myself and my wife have both run prestigious restaurants and hotels, so feel we are the best people to point out that small communication like ‘we will need the table back after 2 hours’ should be a priority on entering the restaurant. When I confronted the front of house, the girl did apologise and say she was stressed, but upon leaving I did hear her say to the manager that she didn’t rush us,…..completely false, as we could see the whole scenario playing out before our eyes! Just a thought to the restaurant for future,….communication is key

A great restaurant for atmosphere, service and food. We went as a family on a Sunday and had the sharing roasts. Delicious and plentiful I would highly recommend as an experience, slightly different from a regular pub roast and you can also eat off the regular menu on a Sunday too. Thank you, we will be back.

Wonderful service, lovely Sunday sharing roast a bit pricey but the quality of the meat was excellent! The beef is cooked as you order, not as the normal Sunday roast 😉 Yummy vegetables and Yorkshire Pudding. Good selection of wines. The vegetarian options were very nice and tasty. I’ll be back 😃😃😃

First time me and my partner have been to Kindling restaurant and we have truly been missing out. The staff were very polite, friendly and welcoming. The roast dinner was one of the best roast dinners we have had eating out. I have coeliac and as they don’t have gluten free yorkshire puddings they gave me extra roast potato’s. We will definitely return.

Was very impressed with food and service, our waiter Joseph was very attentive and the food was amazing, steak cook to perfection. Perfect way to celebrate my partners 30th. Would 100% recommend.

I wasn’t going to leave a review, but this has been playing on my mind and has been the topic of conversation. After reading the rave reviews, I took my daughters to Kindling for a birthday meal. It’s fair to say the food absolutely lived up to the hype—outstanding, a truly memorable tasting experience that we all enjoyed. Charlotte was a gem, answering our questions with ease and taking great care of us throughout the evening. However, what should have been a perfect night was completely overshadowed by the front-of-house restaurant manager. His demeanor made us feel pressured and uncomfortable, something I certainly didn’t expect in a place with such a strong reputation. I understand there are time limits on tables, but standing by the till and glaring at us as we finished our meal was far from welcoming. Initially, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, thinking it couldn’t be intentional—only for him to then silently place the bill on the table without a word before turning his back and walking away. No "How was everything?" No "Hope you had a great evening." Just an abrupt and dismissive interaction that left a sour note on what should have been a special occasion. It’s shocking that someone in a leadership role, responsible for setting the standard, displayed such poor customer service. It completely undermined what was otherwise a fantastic experience. A real shame.

We visited for our anniversary meal and we're not disappointed! The staff were all amazing, they couldn't do enough for us. Our table wasn't quite ready but they made us comfortable at the bar, made sure we had drinks and checked in with us until our table was free. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us decide what to get, for a smaller menu, we were still stuck for choice! We ended up going for the T-bone sharing plate with sides and we did not regret it! I've never had a steak so good, it was cooked perfectly and the sides were so delicious! All in all a wonderful experience, perfect food, wonderful hosts and a gorgeous setting - a perfect night out!

AMAZING food, the steak is perfect, so tender! Mushroom sauce with it was also amazing!Atmosphere is lovely and the staff are so nice (especially the blonde lady serving us, very friendly and helpful!) Forgot to take a photo of the steak, was too busy tucking in!

Just got back from dinner at Kindling. Service poor all night (had to be proactive to order anything). Ordered Cote de Boef and was no way 450g as promised, maybe a good size portion for one person. Side were nice and drinks were fine, but otherwise thoroughly terrible and far better places in Brighton to go.

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful Sunday roast, and it was an experience worth sharing! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a welcoming team that made sure we felt right at home from the moment we walked in.

Had a wonderful dinner here to celebrate a family occasion. The food is excellent, everything is made with care and an emphasis on flavour. Cocktails were delicious and a good wine list. Service was attentive without being fussy. It's not a cheap evening but they certainly delivered value for money.

We had Zarin as our waitress and she was wonderful ! So lovely. Service was great and food was exceptional !!!

Beautiful Sunday sharing roast. Very rare to find a good Sunday roast so it’s a must visit in Brighton. Staff were attentive and friendly. Demi and Isabel looked after us so well. 100% recommend We will be back again

KINDLING elevates a "burger" and a "steak" to new heights. Every dish exited and surpassed expectation. Excellent service, great atmosphere, overseen by a fastidious patron. Enough hyperbole, make a reservation, and experience this for yourselves.👍👍👍.

Steak was lovely, perfectly made and the sauce was so creamy. Loved it. Burger was big and very good. Definitely recommend x
