The best restaurants serving British food in South East

Cute interior, polite staff, relaxed atmosphere. I ate lunch here and am delighted by the local fresh fish on the menu. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend.

Always enjoyed a Sunday lunch here when it was under previous ownership. Starters arrived except for one. The black pudding scotch eggs were great. Friend asked where hers was as half way through starters and they thought she didn’t want one so she said just don’t worry now as half way through but then it appeared! Main course arrived. Again not altogether and one of us had asked for no potatoes but an extra Yorkshire but it arrived with potatoes but suddenly they appeared saying they’d made a mistake and took it away! Wasn’t that warm either. The cauliflower cheese was like mash potato was mixed with it and some weird orange cheese melted on top. My husband asked for a non alcoholic beer. The bottle arrived and he knows he should have checked but he’s sure it wasn’t as he had his normal alcohol reaction. Pudding ok but nothing wow! Not the same atmosphere as it use to have and several different waitresses serving us, not a consistent one and never saw the owner which use to make you feel welcomed and checking in if all is ok. The only good thing was chocolate eggs still served with coffee! The toilets could do with a revamp! Such a shame as it was great and won’t be returning soon.

Very very good quality especially the roast dinner. Very good service and food comes very quick and everyone is very friendly.

Used to be superb and I recommended to many people in the past. Really, really disappointing these days. The outside looks like a tip. Especially the bit used by the staff. Ashtray full to the brim, empty Red Bull cans. No-one taking ownership of the place. And no better on the inside. Wine shelf above the bar empty, fallen off beer badges just left lying on the bar. Dead leaves on the plants. Tables dirty, no waiter taking a drinks order. The whole place is simply grubby and you would think twice about getting a draught beer as you can't be sure if the lines get cleaned. The food was still just about ok but no more than that and seeing how the bar area looks you wonder what the hygiene situation is in the kitchen.

Great place to work with your laptop, or bring family if they are visiting from out of town (as you can park in the multi-storey). In summer the courtyard is a real sun trap. The staff are friendly and the food is tasty!

The atmosphere was so good and the team who looked after us were delightfully friendly. We had fish which was superb! The wine was top just right and reasonable.

Lovely Top Hat breakfast. Good quality food. 2 Vegan breakfasts lovely again. Pot of Tea and orange juice. Coming back for afternoon tea Good parking

For a meal away from the trapping of everyday life you can't go wrong with spending a few hours at this restaurant. The staff are helpful and friendly and the food is excellent in both choice and quality. The environment is also calm and relaxed. In other words, the place is a jem.

This place is phenomenal!! The service was so kind and lovely and the food was out of this world. Thank you for being so great. We cannot wait to come back. 3rd trip to the IOW and the best restaurant we have been too by far. My husband had the roast and he said it was the best pub roast he has ever had. So great to the kids too!

Friendly owners, incredibly helpful. Prepared an allergen contact free meal for my wife. Best fish and chips in Burgess Hill!

Compliments to the chef! The lamb shoulder was our absolute favourite. As well as incredible food in this quant restaurant, our waitress Mia was not only friendly and warm but you can see also takes great pride in her job - showing a deep knowledge of the menu and she was spot on! Would highly recommend this place - deserving of 5 stars.

Found this little cafe online my partner and I fancied a breakfast … first time we have ever been there and WOW what an amazing Atmosphere , extremely welcoming from the get go . It’s also lovely to see all the regulars coming in and having conversations with the owners. Food was also perfect wasn’t a long wait at all . Felt extremely comfortable the whole time. Glad we came across this little hidden gem will definitely be back. Thankyou Julia , Andy and team
