What a wonderful pub, it’s like stepping back in time fifty years. The fire was lit, the staff were welcoming and the atmosphere cosy. We spent an enjoyable evening chatting to several locals and the staff. My husband enjoyed the local beer and we had a delicious slice of the landlady’s lemon cheesecake. The garden has plants, flowers and apples for sale. We were told that we had missed a lovely walk to a waterfall, that will have to wait for another holiday this way.

Best quiche we’d ever had. The bread was perfectly baked. SO states non-alcoholic was as delicious as the bread. I only wish we’d had room after our meals to try one of their desserts. This little gem is a must-try if you’re in the area.

We've been for lunch twice now when visiting family. Both times we had a lovely time. Both times mid week, April and August, Both times it was very busy so be prepared for its popularity. It's run by 2 sisters and they do things their way. It's cash only but I've seen them tell customers to either drop it off another time or send a cheque. It's a very informal atmosphere and tables are for sharing. The Ploughman's Lunch is huge, but they give you a brown paper doggy bag to take home leftovers. The soup I'm informed is really lovely. Everything is home made and therefore rustic home cooking. When the cider barrel was empty they told my husband he could have a free pint if he changed it for them. So he did! I read some of the negative reviews and just think they run a no nonsense pub. We found staff friendly. My daughter got a behind the bar tour when she went to the hatch for a nosey. Outside are bunches of local flowers and home made jams for sale. There's an honestly box. Check out opening times though. They aren't open all afternoon. There's a nice little Riverside walk by the side of the pub, just a couple of minutes but very pretty.

It is a true gem that transports you back 70 years plus. To a simpler time and arguably better time. The food is wonderful and tremendous value for money but when their website says they serve food from Midday to 2 pm................do not believe it. If you roll up at 1.50 pm and ask for food then you will be told the kitchen is about to close and therefore there are just two things on the menu available to you - soup or ploughmans........and just cheese ploughmans at that. The owners in the kitchen were clearly peaved at us rolling up just 10 minutes before the kitchen closed...........and that is part of it's charm. The delightful barmaid apologised to us and said that in future it would be better if we got there no later than 1.30 pm if we wanted the full menu. Perhaps their website could be tweaked to say that anyone turning up for food after 1.30 pm will be expected to have what they're given and not expect to be able to choose!! Anyone who arrives after 2 pm will get nothing!! A far more accurate description of the reality!! Now many would complain about that............but it truly is part of it's wonderful eccentricity. You take the Harrow Inn on it's terms............end of!! We love it and have learned our lesson well!!

We arrived parched on a hot Sunday on a walk to Hawkley. After enquiring what cask ales they had I received the reply “I don’t know where you come from, but around here we just call it beer”. - good start. After pouring 3 pints for us, which seemed to be a huge inconvenience for him, he looked at the debit card in my hand and said “I hope you don’t think you can pay with that; cash only.” Thankfully a kind gent in the bar paid for our drinks and we paid him back via transfer. The supercilious and deliberately awkward attitude of the man-child behind the bar has ensured that we will not be coming back here again any time soon

After pouring us 3 pints, which seemed to be a huge inconvenience for him, he looked at the debit card in my hand and said “I hope you don’t think you can pay with that; cash only.” (fair enough, but he could have told us before pouring the pints). Before you go you need to know one thing: it's cash only! A traditional little pub with emphasis on doing things the way they always have. And a total gem for it. Famous it seems for its outside toilet block opposite. I only knew the pub was there because of the beer glass on the OS map and it was right on the walking route. I was early, and by noon opening time a good queue was forming at the door, a lively crowd advancing in years and experience and ready for their lunch had descended from far and wide. Inside is small (though I didn't look in the "smoking room") with a smokey old fireplace, but it has quite a large garden, front and side. The two ladies running the place are super efficient and they take your order at the bar and pour it out of sight. No idea what the lager was but it hit the spot. The quiche was very good with a vast plate of salad and a hunk of bread and real butter. The giant plates of soup also looked fabulous. Heartily recommend. There's birds nesting in the roof above the outside seating and they're lively and active, flitting about. There's a zebra impersonator in the field opposite. They sell plants outside. Read the history on the laminated cards on the tables. It's far from modern, but if it never changes they don't mind and neither should we. Good luck to them.

I checked the website for opening times and was happy to see that it was open for lunch Had a great walk only to arrive at the pub to find it closed !!!! There was a sign on the lane saying it was closed, so bloody disappointing Surely they need to update their website to let people know if they are open or not ,

The Harrow has a lot of character. It is laid-back and homely, with very generous servings. I had a 'lockdown quiche' and bread and butter pudding, which are pictured for reference. In addition to the pictured quiche, they also provided a large slice of bread (which came in a paper bag since it couldn't fit on the plate!) In the garden, there are plenty of adventurous birds (mostly robins) eager to have a share of your food too- but only if you put some aside for them! They aren't like seagulls that will nab your whole plate the second you look away.

Right , I do not easily give out five stars, but if you embrace this pub, it is the best of its type. The food is soup, sandwiches or ploughman’s, but all very good. We had beef sandwiches which were excellent. Draught real ales terrific. Pub interior and gardens are eclectic and there were individual plants and cut flowers on sale. The garden furniture has seen better days, but fits , and you are surrounded by flowers. I enquired about a particular cut flower on our table and was given a trowel and bag and told to dig up a couple to take home. What a lovely thing to do. Note, their normal car park is being used for more outside seating , so opposite the pub is a lane to a field to park up. you have to leave your contact details which is reassuring AND the only take cash or cheques !!! Fantastic, and we will return.

A lump of cheap cheese, three lettuce leave and a whole tastless tomato served with a slab of white bread with a heavy crust but no taste. The Harrow is one of the best pubs in Hampshire, and maybe all of England. It's friendly, traditional, and does everything a good country pub should do: beer by the barrel, ploughmans, an open fire, and a wide array of chatty locals. It's run by two sisters who've done a marvellous job of holding back modernity from changing it into a generic 21st century boozer. Walking into the main bar feels like going back in time. It's particularly good fun on a Saturday lunchtime. I simply couldn't recommend it more highly.

We were pleased to find this unusual lunch stop in the country near Petersfield. There was a lovely fire and we loved the old beams and character of this place. The soup and bread was excellent but the scotch egg and salad disappointing. Large lettuce leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, a little sliced onion constituted the salad. Although there was a local group of people together there was an unfriendly attitude even though we sat closely together. A large dog under the table kept nosing us annoyingly too.

No children allowed as I recall, but that doesn't preclude them from being outside in the garden. Very limited parking, and not easy to find. Completely unspoiled pub as all should be. Lovely.

If you like an old traditional pub then this is perfection. The only noise is the sound of conversation, the crackling of the gorgeous fire and the ticking of the clock. It was a Monday lunchtime and the two small bars were full.

We were pleased to visit this establishment and were made to feel welcome by local regulars. Small place with ambiance around a small warm fire. We just had drinks which were good. A bit of artificiality seemed to pervade. Old tradition with a new front of trying to preserve a distant past. It was worth the drive and having to return because they were closed mid afternoon. Would we recommend leaving the highway to visit. We think not!

Glorious little pub , set in a perfect cottage garden . The ploughman's lunch was out of this world...so simple, but everything home produced and delicious.

To all those who have left a negative review of the Harrow and in particular 'sleepingjupp' I suggest you stick with the bland gastro-pubs that you are used to. The Harrow is a fantastic example of how a traditional English pub should be, lovely local beer straight from the barrel, simple unpretentious food and a very friendly landlady who took the time to tell us the fascinating history of the pub. We were also treated some folk singing by one of the locals who had been going to the Harrow for over 60 years.

Absolutely random visit! We were desperate for lunch on our way home from Guildford and hadn't made plans as to where we were going to eat. My wife spotted a brown sign with a knife and fork and 'garden centre' on it so we turned off the A31 to give it a try. We are so glad we did! The Tree House Coffee Shop is an absolute gem of a café in a family run garden centre. Lovely, welcoming, friendly staff, good food and absolutely gorgeous homemade cakes. Mrs P even got chance to spend some time with the garden centre's cat! One disappointment - we don't live nearby!!
