Garthowen Garden Centre & Tree House Coffee Shop in East Hampshire

Absolutely random visit! We were desperate for lunch on our way home from Guildford and hadn't made plans as to where we were going to eat. My wife spotted a brown sign with a knife and fork and 'garden centre' on it so we turned off the A31 to give it a try. We are so glad we did! The Tree House Coffee Shop is an absolute gem of a café in a family run garden centre. Lovely, welcoming, friendly staff, good food and absolutely gorgeous homemade cakes. Mrs P even got chance to spend some time with the garden centre's cat! One disappointment - we don't live nearby!!

This is an exceptionally well run operation. Frequently stop off here when travelling from Dorset to Kent or vv. Both the product range and friendliness of the team are excellent

Lovely friendly staff set in beautiful surroundings. Recommend the watercress and cheese scone and chilli chips and cheese plus caramel milkshake.

Another fabulous lunch! We’ve been coming here every couple of months for a couple of years now, and it never disappoints! Great home made food, with a good menu choice considering it’s not a huge place. Everything is hot, tasty and well presented. There is also a good selection of home made cakes if you’d just popping in for a coffee (we love cake of the day). The staff are lovely too and will do their best to accommodate you even when it’s very busy.

Nice location. Nice café But unfortunately delicious scones served with tasteless substitute for butter. Ruined the typical expectation of a unique afternoon tea item.

Very busy restaurant. Very easily were shown to a nice table. Glenda looked after us. She was charming, with lots of smiles, and nothing was too much trouble. Food and coffee were excellent. All in all, a really nice experiance made more so by Glenda. This place is a gem.

Good stock of garden sundries and as always help available if needed but never in your face. Now getting together a selection of Xmas goodies, lights etc ready for christmas (when it arrives)

Lovely place to have a coffee and cake. Food and drinks are brilliant quality and the staff are fantastic, friendly and welcoming.

A really nice cafe. Friendly staff, food order arrived very quickly and was excellent. We really liked the ‘mini breakfast’ option (1/2 a bacon sandwich, just two pancakes etc) as we were going to be having lunch elsewhere later. Highly recommended.

Excellent family-owned garden centre, recently expanded. The TreeHouse is much more than a coffee shop with consistently superior breakfasts and lunches which have earned it a high reputation and popular following.

The upgrade project at Garth Owen is progressing well. I am looking forward to seeing the finished result. This is a family business and throughout the building works they have managed to keep open which is a great on its own. We'll done all! Good garden centre with a very nice restaurant/cafe. Social distancing has been observed from the start. The staff are all conscientious, helpful and thoughtful. I went to see the wood turning today. Wow, this is a great edition. I'm too old to start wood turning but the things you can buy for other crafts are great. I bought a piece of wood which I love and am going to use it for an epoxy resin piece of art. Nice people and excellent demos and classes. Garth Owen goes from strength to strength. It is a great place to find gardening needs, from plants to puts, to growing medium and gardening inspiration. They also have a great place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Yum. My favourite garden centre.

This was our first visit. Very impressed with the layout and the range of gardening items from shingles, flowers pots, loads of different plants, fencing materials and garden ornaments and bird boxes and baths. Also a nice selection of gift like items, cards, wrapping paper etc. We bought 3 different pickles/chutneys as they are hard to find in supermarkets. Will definitely visit again

A high quality garden centre. Always has a good stock of plants and all the good quality, reliable accessories need for gardening. Not the cheapest nor the most expensive - but certainly the best.

I've visited the coffee shop many times and again it didn't disappoint. I was on my way to a funeral. They were kind, courteous and the food and drink were served nicely presented, Highly recommended.

I come here often as they have an extensive selection of plants, trees, large collection of beautiful pots and any possible tools and gardening equipment you need. All beautifully displayed and the staff are always very professional and super helpful. Highly recommended!!!!

Expensive prices and the coffee shop was packed. Parking was awkward. Although nice for a stroll around if looking for garden supplies, some unique pieces Available.

Just popped in, first time since the major work undertaken in 2022. The tree top caffe/restaurant was very nice, the sandwiches were lovely and the coleslaw delicious. Worth a visit.

Disappointing visit to the cafe with my friend and our two children. We were made to feel awkward for having our pushchairs and our server was rude communicating on the fact. There was some issue happening between the staff which all the customers could see and as a result we were ignored - we weren't given any menus and waited 10 minutes for them before setting off to find them ourselves. Boiling plates were placed in front of the children was no warming and I burnt my hand moving it away. Food was very salty and coffee was poorly made. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

Exceptional staff assistance in garden centre, Knowledge and customer attention goes above and beyond. Cafe extremely busy, staff pushed to limit but, remain helpful cheerful and all with a smile. Visit highly recommended.

I ordered the full Tree House Breakfast. It was cooked to perfection and the accompanying flat white was among the best coffee I have tasted. The staff are lovely and attentive and always serve with a smile. I thoroughly recommend the Tree House.

Great visit to this lovely garden centre and coffee shop today. The food was lovely. Staff very welcoming and courteous. The coffee shop was busy but we were seated immediately and the food we ordered arrived within 5 minutes An added bonus was the owners came and joined us for tea at our table

Visited the cafe, great breakfast even for a vegan. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Recently prices have edged up a bit but compared to the pile on in other restaurants and cafes it's very modest.

We stopped here for a break and lunch on our way home from Dorset to Essex. The sandwiches and scones were excellent, as was the service from the staff.

Very helpful staff. Perhaps a little more information on plants would benefit, for example shade loving plants, how tall shrubs will grow.

Many people who visited this place commented upon a stuffed owl which is placed near to the entrance. We asked a member of staff at the till a question and she was very helpful about it. The rose display was lovely and colourful.

I have been to the Tree House on many occasions as I live only a couple of miles away and it never disappoints. Staff always very friendly and more than helpful with a smile. The coffee is outstanding along with cakes and main meals and the whole place has a very chilled out feel. I will visit time and time again.

Excellent in all ways. Food, staff and sevice.

The food itself was really amazing, the portions are also quite big and really worth the money. I had the loaded fries, and my family all had different kinds of sandwiches. The place itself was also very cozy but you need to be prepared that it is quite busy, and we waited about 30 minutes for them to take our order. It took 10 minutes to get the food for 4 people so that was worth the wait!

Put my flag up to indicate we were ready to be served. Saw 3 tables come in after us and get served before us. Unacceptable. I took my Father out to lunch to mark what would have been my late Mothers 75th birthday. Not only did you completely ignore us, you upset my 82 year old disabled Father which is unforgiveable. We walked out in frustration. Your loss. Avenue Nurseries Cafes' gain. DO BETTER.

Oh my goodness, what a great lunch here. Really good quality food, generous portions, great value! Had jacket potatoes, macaroni cheese, and a delicious ploughman's. We'll be back!

Revisited the Garden Centre for first time since renovation. Very impressive and food lovely. Will go again soon. Only criticism is that outside seating could be just a little more pretty with hanging baskets.

First visit, easy to find. A nice range of plants, shrubs trees and garden pots etc. shop packed with things. Cafe there so coffee and milkshake 😋 with light bite for lunch all very enjoyable. Sorry no pics but bought some plum slate for border.

Good selection of all things garden alas its very expensive so I give it 2.5 out of 5. But the cafe does awesome food & great service 5 out of 5.

Visted the Tree House Coffee shop for breakfast with work colleagues. The food was super and the service was good. Its been a few years since I visited and you now have a flag to wave when you are very to order which felt a little order and isn't very clear that is needed! The food however was outstanding and as good as I remember it being - it was all really hot and tastes very fresh!

Love it here breakfast and plants under one roof! Perfect. Lovely food and menu options. Gluten-free and great milkshakes!!!

Had a nice breakfast here, very reasonable prices and good food. They also have really good milkshakes and nice options for kids, like pancakes, half a breakfast sandwich with hash browns etc. The food arrived quickly as was piping hot. So no complaints at all.

The best breakfast [Jeremy Clarkson voice] IN THE WORLD...!!! I've stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels and not had a breakfast this great. Try it, you won't be disappointed

The menu is perfect, and the service excellent. They've got a great system and the food is always excellent.

This used to be a really good place to go for coffee and lunch but not anymore. Went last year and it was not good. Thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt that they were having an off day so that's why thought we would give it another try. We will definitely not be going back. The girl that served us was lovely and apologised for the mistake with the food and other things. Other staff just stood around talking. One meal came along with a wrong one, then had to wait quite a while for the correct one to arrive.

A great cafe for a good lunch, nice staff with a swift service. Had a bacon and avocado sandwich. The restaurant was full on a Tuesday, I would imagine you might have to wait for a table.

We love it there. Such a great menu, fantastic value for money and really good service. Highly recommend a visit and can’t wait to go back and try something else on the menu.

Absolutely superb. Excellent food and service, part of a lovely garden centre. Would thoroughly recommend this place but make sure you use SATNAV because some may find it difficult to locate.

I have the Treehouse as one of my ultimate go to’s, BUT visited last week and lovely new menus and same lovely staff and atmosphere, BUT the portion sizes were tiny. Having had their lovely quiche before I ordered again and the quiche itself and...

Stopped here on our way to Farnham. Had a fabulous brunch of poached eggs. Perfectly cooked poached eggs with lovely crispy bacon and fresh avocado. Staff were super friendly.

Seems to have gone downhill since our last visit. Very peculiar way of having to order and pay for food - I realise there are possibly still COVID restrictions, but their system seemed rather "unusual". Also would not expect to have to go and collect...

Cosy cafe with friendly staff. I had the small macaroni cheese with a flowerpot bread which was amazing value for money. It was very busy but the staff were coping well.

It’s worth planning cycling trips around a coffee stop at Garthowen. All their coffees are delicious but the tasty decaf is especially appreciated. And the way they write decaf on the saucer reassures me that I get decaf.

This is an ideal location for a quiet coffee and cake or cooked breakfast. Staff were very pleasant and the use of bleepers makes the whole process function very well. We enjoyed coffee and cake, both of which were delicious. Great to relax in peaceful setting. Thanks

Our second time here for late breakfast: excellent both times, first occasion inside, now in the garden area. Varied menu, which would suit just about any taste. High quality ingredients, generous portions, well prepared. Efficient service and certainly quicker than I would have expected. Maybe not cheap compared to some places, but good value for the quality. Just one minor disappointment.....the crispy bacon with the pancakes wasn't at all crispy!

Really lovely breakfast. Mushrooms were divine (expected more of a salad though with it). American pancakes were good, expected them to be bigger though as American pancakes are larger. Food was really yummy though and dogs lay happily on the floor as we ate.Lovely little cafe and great service.

This place has been my saviour since the summer holidays. Visited far too many times, as a family, a couple, with friends - always wonderful. Made my way through all of the smoothies several times over and each are amazing. Broccoli one is my favourite. Kids LOVE the cakes but for us grown ups, the poached eggs with Avo and salmon is exceptional. Love love love it! Staff are always friendly and helpful. I’ll be back again next week :-D

Visited today on the way home and we decided to eat here. The staff were so friendly and very organised regarding Covid precautions. I had the beetroot, carrot and mango smoothie (which is blended with apple juice) and it was so refreshing and yummy! The veggie breakfast was also amazing - the best I've had in a long while, with Parmentier potatoes, toast, mushrooms, eggs, tomato, beans and a veggie sausage that has a tasty stuffing-like flavour. Wonderful to have this place around the corner from family - we can retreat here when we need some peace and quiet!

I went here today with my friend Sandy. She'd discovered it by accident a few months ago and, on our way back from Alton Pond today, suggested we go there. It's a nice little garden centre and, in line with all the Covid regulations, is running a one way system through the centre. It was lunchtime and we were hungry so we headed for the cafe. Probably because there were just two of us we didn't have to wait and, since it was a lovely sunny warm day, we sat outside. The staff were very friendly and efficient and (after a slight hitch where they forgot to bring my cheese and watercress scone) we settled down to eat and drink. Sandy had a Rocky Road - which was surprisingly large - and I had (eventually) a lovely warm cheese and watercress scone with a generous portion of butter. There were more people there than we'd expected but there was plenty of room in the garden. We're definitely going back there when we're back that way again.

I visited here twice this week.Monday waited 45 mins for a sandwich,which ended up being forgotten so cancelled order and left. Today ordered 2coffees,waited half an hour.Then had to request bill twice then wait again to pay?Watched 2 people leave as they didn’t get served at all.This is a lovely cafe with great food,but something needs to be addressed regards staffing and service.

Dropped my bike for a service nearby and wanted a late breakfast... I was able to enjoy a very nice veggie breakfast this morning in the sunshine with a lovely cup of tea for a very reasonable price. Very nice indeed.

We were on a trip out and wanted a stop off for lunch. We had been meaning to visit Garthowen for a while, so decided to pop into Tree House for a bite to eat. We were very pleased to see that both the garden centre and the restaurant were taking the new covid measures very seriously, and the clear screens between the tables were most welcome.We were in a smaller 'library' room at the back which was really nice. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble.The menu was just right, and we ordered the veggie breakfast, which was absolutely delicious and just the right size.Even better was the bill! We thought the prices were good anyway but then got a lovely surprise when the bill was halved in accordance with the help to eat out initiative! Well worth a visit, and we will be back!

This is a quirky little garden centre. The cafe is excellent. The staff are wonderful. Great vege breakfast. Totally recommend

Really pleasant surprise to find this excellent cafe tucked away in Four Marks. Really great soup and home made bread, also sampled some lovely cake. Nicely busy and lots of cosy corners. Will certainly return now I’ve found it.
