Lovely cosy little restaurant - popped in on a recommendation by one of our party and was delighted to discover it lived up to expectations. Despite a small kitchen they offer a range of really delicious dishes. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Dropped in on the off-chance this morning for breakfast when the place we'd planned to visit was too busy - I'm so glad it was! We were welcomed and seated quickly and quietly and our coffee order was taken while we chose from the menu. There was a nice choice of breakfast and the chef made adjustments for me as I am dairy free. The food was great - as a "Full English" it was once of the smaller ones but the quality was so good it really didn't matter. Every aspect of the food was fabulous, the bacon, sausage and egg were all first rate you could tell this was a restaurant serving breakfast not just a run of the mill cafe. The bacon was thick and flavoursome, the sausage had a great texture and the egg was golden and creamy - and all perfectly cooked too! We also had an avocado and egg on ciabatta which was fantastic too. A special mention also for the coffee which was one of the best I have had, a great balance between a savoury strong but not bitter coffee with creamy oat milk. Although not cheap, it was well in line with what I would expect to pay for a good brunch which with excellent quality, service and ambience - couldn't really have been any better!

Landlord is extremely rude. Doesn’t want to talk to his customers. No manners whatsoever. Made us feel unwelcome. Would never go back.

Terrible hospitality!! The landlord was simply rude & ignorant. We left feeling angry & upset. Never in my life have I met a person in the hospitality industry who was so wrong for the job. If you’re not in the clique then your face won’t fit. Would never go back. Highly unrecommended.

Wow!! to the Sunday Roast...the best we have ever eaten...Roast beef melted in the mouth..plenty of it too with lots of fresh vegetables.. Highly recommend the Stables which is tucked away in a pretty courtyard off the High Street.....

My recent experience at The Stables wine bar and restaurant was incredibly disappointing. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that the staff had no interest in providing good service. The food never arrived at our table. We patiently waited 30 minutes for our sausage sandwiches. I had to leave our table to flag down a member of staff on the floor below to explain we would need our food in the next 10 minutes as I needed to leave to collect my daughter from her nursery. Forty-five minutes after ordering, there was no sign of our food, so we had to leave. On explaining we were unable to wait any longer, a member of staff called over the kitchen door and said, “Put the food in takeaway containers.” with that, the waitress began to remove our food from the plate the chef had just put it on, ensuring us her hands were clean and putting it in a foil tray. I no longer wanted to eat the food, and I was now late. I very politely asked how I could pay as I felt very uncomfortable as the staff were now being rude and dismissive. A man stood at the door holding a PDQ machine for payment with no explanation or apology for the atrocious experience. He didn't even speak, just silently held the machine. I would have expected an apology, at the very least. Overall, the service at The Stables was abysmal, and I would not recommend dining there if you value good service as part of your dining experience. When we opened the containers, the food was so disappointing that my partner returned his to them on the way out, and we still paid in full.

Paul and Georgie always serve excellent food wine and beers. And excellent coffee. Always friendly. Excellent service Whatever place they run.

After so many very average eating establishments it was a joy to find this. Innovative recipes and delicious food, served competently by friendly staff. Even the accompanying salad served with our lunch was nicely put together with tiny new potatoes and fresh broad beans. So different and so good.

This was the second time we had visited which even after the first time had become a running joke between us as to the attitude of the proprietor to customer service. Our second visit didn’t disappoint on this front as he was even more objectionable to his staff and disdainful of the customers than our first visit. Not only was he short and dismissive with customers he was impatient and foul mouthed to a clearly new, young member of staff who was struggling with the pressure of the new role and specific ways the owner wanted things done. The food and wine was perfectly fine however the owner really shouldn’t be working in hospitality as he has absolutely no patience with anyone and ruins the atmosphere of somewhere that could be really nice.

Stumbled upon this absolute gem. One of the best lunches I've ever had. Can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu. Highly recommend

Had a lovely dinner in the Stables, tonight, great food, best steak my partner has had in a long time, & the confit of duck was delicious, managed a delicious pecan tart for desert too!! Lovely atmosphere in this quaint old building tucked away in a courtyard off the High Street, but also there’s the opportunity to eat outside if you want to during the nice weather & light evenings.

The best vegan hot chocolate in town. Oat milk with a decent amount of cocoa for a proper chocolate hit! Not too sweet. Pretty cocoa signature :o)

Visited for the first time yesterday and sat outside in the pretty courtyard. Had excellent sandwiches which were extremely tasty with nice garnish and a portion each of delicious potatoes. Had a peak inside when visiting the loos and it all looked charming. Will definitely be back to try the evening menu and roast. Fairly priced food which was was presented and delicious.

Very disappointing. We had heard good things so wanted to try The Stables. The good: good location, lovely waitresses, independent restaurant. The bad: the owner has something in his manner of Basil Fawlty - we found him suprisingly rude and peculiar, and it wasn't clear that he had any interest in offering good service. Or maybe Marco Pierre White without the talent or substance. The food was noticably mediocre, and not priced as such. We definitely will not be back.

We enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of The Stables. We had a lovely table for two by the window. I had the sea bass special and my husband had the smoked salmon and haddock risotto. Both dishes were delicious! I had a nice French merlot and my husband enjoyed a local draught pale ale. We rounded off the meal with dessert and tea and coffee. The servers were very attentive. The Stables is a little gem!

Came here on a weekday morning for brunch with a friend. Staff friendly and welcoming. Food very good. This has become my new favourite place for meeting friends in Petersfield.

Not from the area didn't want to give the typical cheap chain found in almost every town. We wondered round and came across The Stables, had not booked and still we were greeted by a friendly gentleman seat upstairs cosy & nice atmosphere served by the most pleasant and helpful lady. Now for the food we opted for a light lunch it was tasty and just enough. Loved the nice touch on cappuccino sprinkles looking like Murphy the dog. Not sure if customers can bring dog in I do hope so for future visits. Would like to eat here again and bring family when next in the area.

Pompous and rude male owner/manager, had this air of ‘I’m better than you’ as he walked around but the female waitress was lovely and attentive. We were sat downstairs and the manager was leant over the bar clearly making faces at mine and my families conversations (talk about our jobs/work was surely not that bad?), we knew his as a mirror was right next to his face. The meals were horrifically under-seasoned, I would be surprised if there was any salt or pepper in there to start with-not a great thing if you’re a ‘chef’. Way too expensive for what it was worth, wouldn’t be coming back at all

I had my first meal at the Stables last night and it definitely won't be the last! Georgie was very attentive and Paul kept the drinks coming. Chef Peter produced the BEST venison I have ever eaten and a fabulous creme brule that I could become addicted to. Katya also helps the Restaurant to be a real asset to Petersfield. Dreadful customer service. Cafe was quite busy but, despite being ignored initially at the counter, I eventually ordered and paid for a coffee whilst I waited for a friend. I sat where I told the woman I would sit. After 10 minutes, my friend arrived, but I still had no coffee. Went back to the counter and asked the rather abrupt lady for my money back. Her response was to insist on asking exactly where I was sitting, no apology, no nothing. She went and got my money, still no apology. Extraordinary! What a gem of a place. Was in Petersfield looking for a lunch other than basic chain pub fare and stumbled across the Stables Wine Bar and Kitchen and so pleased I did. A local restaurant with its own individuality, warmth and charm. Service was friendly and attentive and the food was excellent, incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked.
