After having been a number of times , the last a couple of weeks ago was very disappointed this morning. We knew the menu had been changed for the winter but after ordering a couple of scones and victoria sandwich we were very underwhelmed with the quality of them. Both scones, cheese and fruit were claggy and the Victoria sponge was not very fresh. Totally understand reason behind changing a menu for the winter months but would have liked what was on offer to be fresh. However, we will be back again in the summer.

This venue have missed a trick by not offering a decent range of allergy alternatives, not hard to achieve in this day and age just think outside the box, instead of trying to offer copy cat food offer products which champion the allergy, this would then elevate the overall appeal of the venue.

A beautiful early autumn Saturday morning and I'd been looking forward to catching up with a dear friend I'd not seen for ages..... I'll start with the positives: a stunning location, plenty of parking and excellent coffee, hot too! We ordered our coffees and my friend orderd 'a scone' - she wasn't asked if she would like it with jam or cream or even both. I looked at the display of cakes, biscuits etc and asked which were suitable for a vegan. NONE ! Several times I was offered a gluten free item instead - I follow a vegan diet, I am neither celiac nor gluten intolerant - I simply avoid animal products. I queried why they didn't have and was informed that they were difficult to get!! I thought this cafe was owned by J & J Catering? How difficult can it be to make at least one vegan item for sale? The waitress brought our order but the scone was served with both jam and cream; my friend asked if she could have butter instead of the cream (which she'd not asked for anyway). The waitress removed the cream pot and brought two foil wrapped butter pats, I asked the waitress if this was still the same price - yes, was her reply! According to your menu, scone, jam and butter is £3.75, scone, jam and cream is £5.00. I am really disappointed with our visit. I have worked in high-end hospitality for many years and this was a bad experience.

We had a wonderful family birthday celebration for eighteen people at The Rocking Horse and were absolutely delighted with the excellent food and service that Charlie and her team provided. Every detail was delivered and nothing was too much trouble and we enjoyed a super afternoon in the beautiful gardens. Thank you for making our day so special.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Rocking Horse yesterday. My husband chose the homemade pork and apple sausage roll, while I had a Ploughman's. Both meals were beautifully presented, and tasted as good as they looked. We have been before, and Charley and her staff were all as welcoming and pleasant as on previous visits. The garden was stunning, despite the fact that it is late summer and lots of things must have gone over. We sat it the courtyard to eat our lunch, admiring the climbing roses and pond, before strolling round the garden and enjoying the views. A lovely relaxing and enjoyable visit - thank you.

Again not disappointed. A friend took us to the Rocking Horse as a thank you. The rain held off which was great as we wanted to dine in the lovely garden. This rural cafe has a certain peaceful charm that attracts lots of people who enjoy the calm environs, an ideal aid to anyone’s digestion! The cafe is situated just above the Stogumber station on the West Somerset Railway and with the wind in the right direction the steam trains could be heard climbing up from Crowcombe station. A touch of romantic nostalgia! Th girls had the quiches which were exceptionally tasty. I had the pork, bramley apple sausage roll which was a very handsome dish. We toured the garden which gives the impression of a controlled abandonment but shows much thought in its planting. Possibly due to the topography of the ground some of this is not particularly suitable for disabled or wheelchair occupants. We finished the afternoon with a cuppa and some treats, the main one being the fruit flapjacks. The fruit had been soaked in……..wow! To complete the entertainment I ‘got locked in the lavatory’. A very, very ‘ha ha’ event. Glad I had my mobile with me! RussellD965

My daughter and i visitedBrewers Water Farm during 2021. We had a really lovely cream tea and strolled around the gardens. On a return visit to my home county, we visited yesterday and were sad to see the way things have changed. Obviously in these times there is a need to make a business thrive by diversification, and I applaud that. What we didn't like was the attitude of a certain member of your cafe staff who was rude and sadly lacking in the customer service department. When we asked about the variety of scone, and if there were more traditional types of cake e.g. victoria sponge, coffee and walnut, rich fruit cake etc instead of tray bakes (which were mostly variations on a chocolate theme), we were met with a 'take it or leave it' attitude. I also think your prices are NOT value for money, and as for the cream being presented in pre-packaged Roddas carton - a brand that's available all over the UK - it was all hugely disappointing. You have a wonderful location in a most beautiful part of Somerset. I was born and brought up in Williton so I know what I'm talking about, so you can appreciate how lucky you are. On a positive note the gardens are magnificent and the people who tend them are to be congratulated.

Another brilliant experience at the Rocking Horse, introducing a new family member to this wonderful place. The Brie, Bacon & Cranberry Panini was perfect, with soft bacon, tasty cheese and a lovely salad on the side. My partner had the Club Sandwich and her Nan had the Pork and Bramley Apple Sausage Roll, and both said they were delicious. All staff are so friendly and the setting is gorgeous. Well done Charley and team.

Amazing. It's a bit like being invited round to a top chef's house for dinner. Small, homely atmosphere and you're greeted like old friends. Very limited menu of two things per course so only go if you're not picky, in sense that you eat a limited number of things. But do go if you're picky in the sense that you know really good food when you taste it. The food was incredible. Every single item of food was so elevated, it's hard to explain. The best example I can offer is that I've never had a tomato that tasted so tomatey. If that makes no sense, I can't help you. The wine was great, we tried the fizz and the picpoul and both were spot on. And then there was the creme brule. The absolute highlight.
