The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

Watch out I park in the car park of 45 minutes while having a coffee in the bar, got a £60 parking fine, no clear signs saying anything about paying for the parking. Will not be calling again

We were staying just outside the village, and were made extremely welcome from the second we arrived, Thai curry on special, was great servings were right sized, the locals were brilliant and friendly, our little dog was fussed over. Will use again, next time I'm in the area

You hear that crunchy layer? 😋 🐟 FRIAR TUCK’S OF YAXLEY 📍 🇬🇧 A few weeks back, I stumbled across a new Fish n Chips spot! I am on a quest to find the best tastiest Fish & Chips combo in the UK. 🇬🇧 I am a big fan of fried fish in general but UKs fish and chips is my new obsession. 🤩 Each month I select a fish n chips spot to review its service, ambiance and most importantly its taste of its food. FRIAR TUCK’S OF YAXLEY have been on my radar for quite some time now. I finally went there and had to see what they working with. The location was convenient. I like the set up of the store, a very well put together to-go spot. The workers at the cash register were sweet. When I asked the difference between the two types of fish, the cook at the counter seemed annoyed that I asked that question. 😅😅 They also didn’t have had their large size fish option at the moment, which was a bummer. 😕Nevertheless, I was still excited to try their fish and chips. So got a Medium size Cod. They fried the fish right in front of me which was superb 🤩 The pricing wasn’t that bad as well. Something I did appreciate was that they wrap their food in paper which made it feel more authentic. Their medium size fish was HUGE, as well as the small chips order. 🫨It smells Devine! Once I got my food, I was ready to eat it right and then! As I was leaving, there was this MOST BREATHTAKING PICTURE PERFECT RAINBOW I’ve ever seen 🌈 I mean, it was just out of this world! That’s when I knew this fish and chips was going to be amazing! It was indeed amazing! It was well seasoned with salt and vinegar with my chips as well. It has the perfect crisp to it. The fish tasted fresh and great quality. Would love to visit again! If ever in this area, it’s a MUST! Having been a resident in Overstrand for nearly three years we often find it impossible just to walk in and get a table in the bar area and hence we have swerved it quite a lot, the lady who used to be front of house waving around paper at me telling me we are full when clearly they were not was very off putting. Now onto this week thought we would try out luck, glad we did, nice young lady on entering I asked her if we could just go and sit at a table as not many people and she said of course, what a breath of fresh air! Long story short lovely meal duo of pork and a bottle of Rose, new manager at front of house very nice too, fingers crossed all being like this in future we will be regulars !

Went with a group of 7 and a dog, pub was busy. Great service from the landlord and landlady, very welcoming and chatty. We had the 2 for £20 burger meals which were great especially the stacker.

Had gluten free fish and chips, yummy.

We visited on Lobster night. We were seated at our table and waited 5/10 minutes until we ordered some wine and our food. We started with Scallops and Prawns both of which were delicious. For mains we opted for Lobster Thermidor, again this was really good. The chips were really nice as well. No issues with the food at all. The issues we had were with customer service. The servers were polite but at no point during the meal did they ask if the food was ok or to see if we needed any drinks. I had to get up 3 times to go to the bar to get a drink/water top up. At £45.00 per head I expected a little more. Maybe I’m being a little critical but I’m only offering constructive criticism. However I would return purely on how good the food was. It was great to see a busy restaurant in Great Yarmouth on a Thursday night. Thank you

This was a great meal as the food was great. The service was excellent and what you want in a restaurant. Always book in advance because it does get busy. A hidden gem in Hertfordshire.

Poor selection. My dinner served on a plate with cracked glaze. Unexceptional food. Place has really gone downhill. Pie of the day: Mince! Not very enticing.

My aunt who was visiting from West Midlands wanted to go to the arches for plaice and chips (she had been previously many years ago) - we chose this restaurant not only because they had plaice on the menu but the fact that it still looked like an original arches restaurant- we are all old school. Whilst they had no plaice yesterday we had haddock and cod and couldn’t fault- the fish was cooked to perfection with crispy chips and the mushy peas were declared yum by those that had them 😀 all three of us would highly recommend this restaurant
