We visited on Lobster night. We were seated at our table and waited 5/10 minutes until we ordered some wine and our food. We started with Scallops and Prawns both of which were delicious. For mains we opted for Lobster Thermidor, again this was really good. The chips were really nice as well. No issues with the food at all. The issues we had were with customer service. The servers were polite but at no point during the meal did they ask if the food was ok or to see if we needed any drinks. I had to get up 3 times to go to the bar to get a drink/water top up. At £45.00 per head I expected a little more. Maybe I’m being a little critical but I’m only offering constructive criticism. However I would return purely on how good the food was. It was great to see a busy restaurant in Great Yarmouth on a Thursday night. Thank you

I dropped in for lunch after a 50-mile cold motorcycle ride, prepared to be disappointed. How wrong could I be? I had the crab cake, and it was more than perfect. It was really creamy, and the hollandaise sauce was very good. The poached egg was done perfectly—everything about it was exactly what I wanted. Good, friendly service, and definitely one to revisit. Staff asked if everything was ok we explained and she said she would speak to the chef and never came back I asked what the chef had said and her replly was no one else has complained, and then gave us the bill. Also we asked for Prosecco which came in wine glass and every other table had the proper flute. Very disppointnent and very expensive for what we had

Sadly not a good experience at all. We waited 2hours for our dinner. My husband waited 3 hours because the waitress forgot to give his order to the chef. He ordered the skate and when he finally got his meal it was dry because the skate had been cooked to fast. My daughters onion rings was dripping in oil, she ordered medium rare but got her steak rare and full of fat and grissel. My son found a long blonde hair in his food (we are all brunette) we waited about 40 minutes for drinks. My mum ordered the scallops which were grissely. We have been before and always had a great experience but that was before the restaurant came under new ownership

Found this little Gem whilst on holiday in Hopton a few miles away, booked for lunch today for my husbands birthday and wow! He’s a massive seafood fan and with me being a vegetarian of over 40 years it’s not been easy to go with him to somewhere accommodating. The only negative is there was no vege starter so we skipped them and went straight in for the mains. They let me put together a gorgeous mushroom dish that was on the specials board with veg and chips. Hubby had the scampi with a side of garlic prawns and was in good heaven. We took a seafood cocktail and dressed crab away with us from the shop and will be back soon!

There was an unpleasant smell in the restaurant like propane gas. We asked the waitress and she went to investigate, but never came back with a response. When my husband complained again about it at the end of the meal, another waitress said that it was a gasoline lamp in the window making the smell. It was not conducive to a dining experience. The meals were really overpriced . I had plaice, stuffed with crab. Whilst eating it, I had a length of cling film in my mouth! This was obviously how the police had been cooked. I pointed this out and was just thanked for letting them know! Disappointing experience in total.

Went last week 6th March, the two lady staff, gratefully fitted us in at 2.30- despite a 4pm booking- we finished our previous appointment early. I ordered king prawn pasta, my wife fish and chips. My pasta was tasty, although the unshelled prawns proved difficult and messy, at the very minimum, they should have been left with the tail on for ease of eating. My wife’s fish was watery-odd for a fishmongers-which suggests-along with a grey colour- that this was not at its optimum when frozen🤔 The batter was milky/cloying, but worst of all were the FROZEN CHIPS😱 imagine fish with frozen chips. Even with a 2 for 1 on mains, this was a let down, ESPECIALLY after witnessing their WONDERFUL on-site fishmongers-which is one of the best I have seen NATIONALLY. The two staff did admirably and were ‘under the cosh’ due to numbers, but were sadly let down by the quality of what they were serving

We regularly buy fish and eat in the restaurant. It has always been brilliant, but a recent change is very disappointing. Today we spent over £120 on wet/frozen/smoked fish in the shop, both for ourselves and friends. Then we had lunch in the restaurant. Let me be clear, the food was terrific and the service was excellent. BUT what have they done to the wine list??? When we went in I didn't even look, but just ordered a large glass of NZ Sauvignon Blanc, as I have always done. The waitress then brought a small bottle (187 ml) of French SB and said that was the only white wine by the glass. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it was thin and sharp. I ended up having to order a whole bottle of the NZ SB and taking the rest home. When I looked at the wine list there are no wines now offered by the glass except these sub quality 187 ml bottles (which incidentally work out more expensive by volume at £6.95 than the £22.95 bottle). So for couples where one is driving, the drinker has to put up with these poor wines, or buy a full bottle. The couple next to us also had the same predicament. He was the drinker and ordered a glass of SB. He got one of the small bottles, took a mouthful and winced. They were regulars, and he also said this was a retrograde step. I wouldn't mind, but they cannot claim waste as an excuse. SB is commonly ordered with fish, and we heard at least 5 orders for glasses. So serving from the bottle cannot be a problem. I have to be honest, this is putting me off returning. I simply don't want to have to buy a full bottle of a wine that should routinely be sold by the glass in a fish restaurant.

Hi all. I visited The White Swan recently with family. It is a fish restaurant located right next to the river, not far from the rail station. The restaurant seemed warm and welcoming upon entry. The waitress was very attentive to our needs throughout the whole dining experience and we did not have to wait very long for our food. There was not so much choice on the menu but it did not take us long to make our orders known. We ordered the traditional fish and chips and the prawn and crayfish tagliatelle. The battered cod was a good size and it came with plenty of thickly-cut golden-looking chips, mushy peas and a small ramekin of tasty tartare sauce. The tagliatelle was creamy, flavoursome and delicious. When I asked for some Parmesan cheese the waitress promptly brought me a small dish with plenty of the freshly grated cheese, enough for us all to use. The meal was a nice size; it was not too small, but also I did not feel full up at the end. In fact I had enough room for a slice of their lovely strawberry cheesecake, which came with either ice-cream or a small jug of pouring cream and was quite filling for its size. I feel that the prices were not the cheapest around, but both myself and my family left the restaurant feeling pleasantly full. The only downside to the experience was that while we waited for our food there were the infrequent whiffs of 'recreational drug' floating about. It was difficult to say where it was coming from but personally, it is not an odour that my sense of smell appreciates, especially when waiting to enjoy a meal. Other than that, this little restaurant by the river in Great Yarmouth was, to me, a little gem. The food is great and the restaurant has it's own decent-sized free car park. I would definitely consider going back....(hoping that 'the smell that didn't belong' was just a glitch 😉).

Had been meaning to try The White Swan for a while, having regularly visited for fresh fish. Staff were attentive and smartly dressed, as well as friendly and polite. Starters, we all had crab claws. Whilst these were flavoursome, for a tenner, I expected more than 3. I know it's just a starter but 3 little claws isn't value for money. Had to ask for crab forks and even then got given 2 (there were 3 of us). Mains. One of us had garlic lobster, which whilst a fair size was low on the garlic. Two of us had monkfish wrapped in prosciutto. I envisaged for £24.50 a large piece of monkfish wrapped and sliced. Instead it was 3 pieces of fish wrapped in bacon. Nowhere near value for money, although very tasty. Drinks, we had a bottle of house wine for £21 which I find to be very good value for money and a bottle of pink prosecco at £25, again very fairly priced. The low point is dessert. Frankly, this is very poor. Chocolate brownie, 3 tiny pieces (together making up probably the size of a half a credit card). Jam blondie, dry as sand. Cheesecake, tasteless. None of these were accompanied by even a ball of ice cream which for £7.50 a pop is tight. Overall £175 bill for 3 x 3 course and 2 bottles of wine. Not extreme prices but far from good value. Glad we went and can say we've been but won't be rushing back. Shame as GY has very few decent seafood places now. Suggestion is simply to increase portion size overall and add better desserts, even if they are bought in. Drinks menu is very fairly priced and decent selection.

I had only been to the swan once before shortly after it opened and I really enjoyed the food so my other half, my mum and I went for my early birthday celebrations. It was uncomfortably hot in the restaurant and we were squished into a corner which didn't help. We all had crab claws to start with which were perfection but we only got 3 each, the portion was really small even for a starter - would of liked double that. For main my partner and I had monkfish wrapped in pancetta with thai curry and rice and my mum had lobster. Again, tasted lovely but my partner and I agreed the portion size was small. My mum's was portioned fine, we ended up stealing some of her chips as she doesn't eat a lot haha. The desserts were not great, the white chocolate cheesecake my partner had was not a cheesecake, more like mouse. I got 3 slices of a chocolate brownie, the brownie was nice but where was the rest? We shared the jammie dodger blonde, I was looking forward to that most but it was really dry. There was nothing served with them i.e. cream or ice cream. I'll happily pay for good food but also value for money is important, for example the desserts were £7.50 each. I don't think any of us will be returning.

Shame to write this as I’m sure the food is alright, but I went into the ‘takeaway’ part of the restaurant and received probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced by two older women who talked down to me (a teenage girl) when I asked what the best measurements would be for some crab meat I was after, but wouldn’t help me, and said things such as ‘ you should work it out for yourself’. When saying I came on behalf of my dad (a regular- therefore I wasn’t completely familiar with all the measurements conversions for what he wanted) they said ‘well tell him he should know better and make it clearer’ so I got very flustered and ended up paying way more than I needed too, which they clearly knew due to the tutting and eye-rolling. Sad as my dad uses their shop multiple times a week and spends lots of money there so definitely lost a customer .…

Had an amazing lunch today, two of us had the skate which was cooked to perfection. Daughter had seabass and thoroughly enjoyed it. They were happy to amend an item of veg which she doesn't like. Also had cheesecake and a brownie for dessert 🤤.Excellent customer service, all in all made to feel very welcome. We shall return.

A small restaurant and shop in a historical building next to the old town wall and river, with plenty of parking. A small menu with specials board, which means your getting fresh seasonal food that is of a very high quality. All 3 meals were excellent and very tasty, I had the roasted salmon with prawns in a carbonara sauce on pasta, off the specials board and it was superb. The adjoining shop, well worth a visit is stocked with fresh seasonal fish or frozen options. Full recommend the restaurant if you like fish!

Spent a very enjoyable evening with the White Swan for a friend's birthday. They happily let me decorate the table with balloons and took the birthday cake to the kitchen to surprise her with! The food lovely, but some changes had to be made to my main (seabass with a leek and bacon sauce) the leeks were off, so chef made a new one with green beans and asparagus....I couldn't find the asparagus 🤦♀️ the fish was lovely, but the sauce wasn't what I was hoping for sadly. The service was excellent and our waitress was excellent 👏🏻 she was funny, attentive and knowledgeable and apologetic when explaining what had to be changed. They excelled themselves when bringing out the birthday cake...they had placed the cake on a platter and decorated it with birthday wishes in sugar writing!!! I wasn't expecting that at all and was so happy they'd done that for us!!! They also used all the candles we'd provided and were singing Happy Birthday when they brought it to the table! A very lovely and special evening all round 😀

Not really good enough for what they are charging. 3 of us went, 2 starters were good. I ordered salt pepper squid, pretty sure it was from Costco because I buy it from there all the time and the taste and shape is identical! 2 other starters did look good to be fair. Ordered mains, one of us had to return the lobster as it wasn't very warm and one of us had to return the mushy peas as they were cold. 2 beers and a bottle of wine, 3 starters and 3 mains, that'll be £120. Not good enough at this price point.

Our experience was awful, the food was overpriced for the quality of food that we received. Staff were unwelcoming, and unhelpful. We ordered the half lobster, 2 battered cod and chips, and the Garlic Prawns (starter, but we wanted as a main, and stated so at time of placing our order) The Lobster was over cooked, and the fish had lots, and I mean lots of bones. I understand that it is fresh fish, and so may have bones in it, however there was so many that we had to eat the fish very tentatively. The menu stated that it came with Home made Tartar Sauce, it didn't arrive with any, nor were we offered any. And the Prawns arrived around 10 minutes after the other food was served, even though we had stated that we wanted it with the mains, We had started our meal, and it took a good while begore we were asked if everything was ok. we mentioned that the Lobster was over cooked, and our server said "I don't eat the food here". and ignored our complaint, and there was no further action taken on this. He made no attempt to remedy the situation, and simply left our table. We are not normally people to complain, but felt that there were too many errors to ignore.

Arrived at 8:15 told they stop serving at 8pm on a Saturday!! Very strange for a restaurant in a holiday town. Bar staff friendly enough, but still can't believe cut off time.

Haven't been in the restaurant but the fishmongers are very good with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent selection of fresh fish and shellfish, freezer sections for large bags of other seafood. Dressed crabs and lobsters are available, and seafood platters can be ordered (they're very good!). Recommend that you get there in the morning, stocks naturally run low as the day progresses.

Very disappointed! There were 4 of us and the food was not nice. Sausage and mash….mash had lumps and the sausages looked undercooked as were white! Steak & Ale pie….burnt and the inside was dried out like it had been reheated more than once. Beef roast dinner was the worst we had ever had, roast potatoes were burnt! Will never go back there as the customer service was non existent! Not once did someone come to the table to ask if everything was as ok.

On our first night in Great Yarmouth we wondered into the "Marine" looking for some food. The Pub was quiet, and all the Staff were genuinely friendly. My Wife has Gallstones and is waiting an Operation so has to be so careful what she eats, the Staff were able to adapt a Prawn Salad for her, which we appreciated. I'm a huge Pie guy, and I chose the Homemade Steak and Ale Pie, which was a bit special, and I can't say I've eaten many, if any better. It's truly delicious. Thanks to everyone there for a lovely meal. Definitely drop in and try the Homemade Steak and Ale Pie.

It’s always wonderful to visit Fritton Lake, laid back luxury with such beautiful grounds, great food and lovely atmosphere. Every member of staff is so friendly and helpful, the Club House beautifully decorated. It’s a rare treat to find somewhere as lovely as this, and it’s dog friendly!

Always love a Toby Carvery! It’s great value for money and a nice spot for a meal out with friends. We had Bruce as our waiter tonight and he was so friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!

Such a shame as it feels you are still operating a limited menu like we are still in lock down (main course all with chips) ) A locals opinion, it feels both the Lion and White Horse are targeting only transient clientele through holiday season and why maybe, they are quieter out of season where public houses with good old ‘English food’ for the local community are a busier. Both great pubs, staff lovely, but the food really needs some attention and love and updating!
