Visited The Chequers last Friday for the first time in a long, long while! Was made to feel very welcome by Craig, Laura and their very friendly team. Thanks for looking after us so well, look forward to seeing you again very soon 🍺. Del & Bev

We prebooked table and food choices for a large group. Another group who had booked after our booking was given priority, our group had to wait over an hour until the other group had been given their desserts then the kitchen started to prepare our groups food. Manager was not helpful at all and we were not kept informed while we were waiting. Food not good . Will not be returning .

What a disaster. We prebooked our meals, we arrived at the given time and it took one hour for 2 scampi and chips to arrive. Chips covered in black bits from the fryer. Staff were disorganised. Would not return here.

This pub has the potential to be a great spot for beer and food. But once again it is anything but great. Several tables had finished their drinks and food over the course of the afternoon and plates were left for hours before being collected, napkins littered all over the garden due to blowing off plates due to them not being collected. Mayonnaise bottles left for 3 hours on a table in the direct sun, as not cleared up, I feel for the next customer who uses that next. When bar staff did come to the garden, they walked past the napkins on the floor and didn't bother to clear the tables. There was a bench that is broken, it's collapsed and beyond repair, get rid of it it looks awful just sat there. The food looks sub standard and just overcooked from what others ate. This place has an opportunity to be great, but let's get staff with some pride and passion, again inside I saw staff just chilling out, standing around, one girl was sat in a booth with her feet up, have your break when you have cleared your garden up

The worst dining experience ever. We booked as a party several weeks beforehand even making our menu choices at the time of booking. We arrived early and after sitting down were told that a number of our menu choices were unavailable due to delivery problems. After reordering we had to wait 105 minutes to be served. When the food came the hunters chicken was dry and like cardboard, the pizzas were dry and tasteless, the scampi was grey looking and dreadful, the portions were small. Overall a complete disaster, we managed to negotiate a 25% deduction to our bills but were only given 20% as they were incapable of working out 25%.

Large garden with shade and wet weather options. A few screens for sports, also quiet areas inside. We visited after a major weekend music fest, so main meals were out of stock, can't say anything about them. Friendly service with a small range of zero% lager/cider/Guinness, no Erdinger or Leffe, sadly.

Booked a table for 10. Had already chosen our food but no recognition of this and hence had to make me u choices again. Only V basic food available. No steaks. No fish and chips. Hunters chicken dry! Terrible! Won’t be going back. What a loss for them! No good review which they need! Looks good but food terrible! Where was the Manager????????

This is our second visit after first visit was a disaster. What a massive improvement since then. Food was great, the pizza was awesome and tasted great. Wife had the Hunters Chichen and tasted great too. Desserts were a bit pricey for what you get and they used the CHEAP ice cream instead of the clotted cream as advertised. They advised they need to change the menu as cannot get the clotted cream ice cream any more. It let down the overall decent desserts. But that wasn't a complaint as all was delicious and we really enjoyed the food and drink....on what was a nice warm sunny day. Thank you

We met family here with little children. We were so warmly welcomed. Lovely play area for the children lovely area outside to sit and eat with large TV so we were happy to watch some of the F1. Food was lovely. We will definitely be meeting up here again.

First order off menu wasn’t available, second choice shouldn’t have been available. When I asked the waiter would he eat what was brought to the table he apologised and said No. Words can’t describe how bad and disappointed we were in the food.

When we entered the pub we were politely welcomed and served the drinks ordered. We ordered our food and specifically requested the child's meal first, unfortunately it was last one,hence an unhappy child. The food itself was disappointing mainly oily due to the way it was cooked. Basics like tomato sauce, vinegar had to be requested as were not on the table or offered to use. We are asked if we wanted the bill ,yet we still had drinks on the table.We went to pay , only to have card declined,so had to use an alternative. On returning home and speaking with the card company they said it was a fault at the merchants.

Booked online but when we turned up we were advised booking on line site was not connected to this pub. They gave us a table which was dirty, sticky and here was food on the floor Drinks order took at least 10 minutes to arrive at the table, and we then had to ask the waitress again for a damp cloth to wipe the dirty table, The menu given was drab and not the same as online, and after ordering the waitress came back to advise three of the four main courses were unavailable !!!!!!!!!!! Paid for the drinks and left - will definitely not be going back or recommending this place.

This pub looks lovely from the outside but that's where it ends. 3 dull and miserable bar staff, no welcome was attempted. The food was dreadful. Roast turkey consisted of dried reheated roast potatoes, carrots. Frozen overcooked broccoli, beige flavourless cauliflower cheese and gravy you couldn't even pour through the skin. The other lunches were just acceptable mainly because they were from the freezer.! This pub could be brilliant if it was managed properly and the staff trained. Needlesstosay we will not return until this happens.

Stopped after a walk in the nature reserve for a beer. Ordered the halloumi fries, best I’ve had ! Cooked perfectly, with sliced pickled onion and honey to dip them in, wow ! Honestly, with a beer in the sun, for me was perfection. Staff were friendly and helpful, will definitely be back to try a meal there and bring our grandson to play in the garden.

Very disappointed overall. A celebration dinner for 8, booked well in advance. Were asked to change the time not sure why as the pub was empty and only 2 or 3 tables with people in the garden. Had ordered 2 bottles of rose Prosecco in advance. We sat at our table in the empty restaurant for some time waiting for them to arrive. Chased at least twice. Were then presented with 2 white Prosecco!! Initially told they don’t sell rose but on further complaint it turns out they did have rose. The bottles were replaced. We had to then chase for flutes to actually have a drink. After some investigation they could only find 3 flutes, so had wine glasses instead. We then moved on to our food order. Apparently they had no salad of any kind! Given most dishes have some kind of salad garnish this was unbelievable. The starters arrived quickly & were very nice. The mains took quite a long time but they did have bits of salad in the burgers. I think someone did go out & get some even though when asked we said not to go to the trouble. All the food was good - although the scampi eaters not so keen. All the staff were youngsters & very polite. It was not their fault that all the above was a shambles. We did complain to the young Manager on shift. When we paid the bill, we assumed the 2 bottles of Prosecco pre ordered had kindly been taken off the bill. The lady who ordered salad did get her replacement scampi free of charge. However I found out this morning that the bride to be had already paid for the initial 2 bottles of Prosecco!! Really quite disgusting to have received no compensatory apology atall and although the food was nice, that’s 8 people who won’t be recommending this pub to anyone! Since posting this review earlier, it has come to light we actually had 4 bottles Prosecco so the Manager had taken a bottle off the final bill. We are very grateful for that and appreciate some way to an apology. I am sorry for my mistake! Would I go back now knowing this? Not sure. Given it wasn’t atall busy and plenty of staff, and a Wednesday night, I’m not confident the service would be much better but as the food was nice, perhaps another try at some point

Lots of friendly people Despite being packed, enjoyed it as a first timer.

Sunday lunch not good, seems to be ping and ding but not well executed. Meat pie was insanely hot, broccoli was raw

Food not good... Pie was nuked Brocolli raw, mash was teaspoon scraped onto plate very disappointed

My 2nd visit in 2 weeks. First visit, a Wednesday evening. Food , staff and atmosphere 👌. Visit 2 on a wed lunchtime. Disappointed, although the food was again ok. The place was dirty. Food on the floor, ladies toilet sink area hadn't been cleaned in day. The floor in th restaurant was tacky !!! It's a shame it has the making of being a good go to for a midweek meal.

We attended a funeral here, and the staff were very attentive.

Met for a working lunch and throughly enjoyed the new decor and upgrades to the premises. The food was fantastic and the waitresses so friendly and helpful

We looked forward to trying out the new chequers. We booked for Thursday evening 7pm, it was quiz night which wasn't a problem or so we thought. On taking our order we were told there were 3 or 4 dishes not available due to waiting for delivery. We ordered lasagna (which had been nuked in the microwave) Hunters chicken ( two small pieces of chicken drizzled with a sauce) and steak and ale pie, which was the best looking dish of all. After we had finished our main course the quiz was in full swing and we seemed to have been forgotten about. When they eventually came to clear our plates we waited for a sweet menu. We waited and waited. By 8.45 we had had enough. We left and paid the bill at the bar. So so dissapointed. 😔

Web site says dog friendly but it's only in the garden bit misleading

Had a nice time outside. Kids play area helped. Booked us in last minute and quite late which we appreciated.

Discrimination! Very rude unorganised staff . The lady came up to me shouting to say to pay before food comes . As it was dad’s day I didn’t want to spoil the mood. I have made my order on the telephone that I was requested to do and we were all waiting patently. As I arrived the lady started shouting at me to pay straight away. I cancelled the order I did paid for the drinks but it took a long time to wait and the didn’t care my kids didn’t have lunch. Never will I ever visit this place .

Had two Sunday lunches now both were Delicious, staff were nice and pleasant pub is very clean , also had their pizzas and ploughman’s Jodie& George are doing a great job considering they have only been there. Few weeks we will definitely be coming back

Great atmosphere, fantastic staff and top service

We went here for dinner last night. Two ribeye steaks, salad and chips for only £40 what a bargain. Food was lovely and staff very attentive and the pub looks great. We sat in the bar area dogs are allowed so check it out for future pit stops when walking ours. Very impressed .. we will def be back!

Slightly run down for my taste. Menu was homely but not tempting. We just had a drink and moved on.

In short, Do not go there. Just read all the positive comments and feel confused with our experience today! We were treated poorly by the only rude miserable woman working there at 12pm. Not busy just one table there before us. This staff is rude, unwelcome and just doesnt give a toss about service. No smile. Nothing. Other customers turned up she flipped to a nice lovely chatty person. The state of food was sad and poorly made. Glad we didnt try to order a proper main dish. Paid this meal in full just so I can put this review in public.

Nice pub, good food and good selection of drinks, pool table sky TV and nice garden with outside bar they also have a pizza oven friendly staff.

Staff were friendly. Food is quite expensive. About £20 per head with drinks now for a family of 4. Food was ok not spectacular. Avoid the nachos - not lovely.

Yet again it misses the mark. On about the 5th set of owners since we moved to the village, the pub still doesn’t deliver on the potential. Kids menu had rock solid buns with the cheapest sausages. Given they have a pizza onven, they are yet to workout how to make something good in it. All the while being priced higher than other places.

We hired the bar for a celebration after our Mum's funeral. We are so glad we chose the Chequers. The buffet they put on was amazing. Everyone really enjoyed the food. The service at the bar was brilliant too and prices are reasonable. Nothing was too much trouble for the team both in the organisation before and on the service on the day. Thank you so much to you all.

Very welcoming multi screen sports. Dartboard and pool. Landlady and husband fantastic wife has multiple allergies and very considerate and understanding and adaptive highly recommended

Nice Greene King pub in Stotfold. Dog friendly in the right side bar. Simple menu but tasty pub food at reasonable prices. Standard drinks choices. Good service and friendly.

Nice pub with a good garden, did wonder why it wasn’t very busy for a Sunday, the food was so poor, partner ordered a pizza which was very undercooked it was all just falling apart and he is not usually fussy about pizza at all! I was served BROWN salad alongside my wrap which again was very average. Such a shame this pub used to serve the tastiest food.

We come here for lunch today and to say the food was a disappointment was a understatement! All the meals we had ordered didn't come the with usual sides you would expect eg peas with fish and chips, children's meals had no options for side. The meals looked like that had been chucked on the plates and the fish was soggy and the worst one I've ever tasted.

App was slow and tedious to order food but food was good

Unfortunately the beer was stale and the food (except for pizza's) was very uninspiring on our visit.

Nice to be out and difficult situation for pub. But over all can't complain.

Worst meal , was a frozen pizza ..lazy food ..understand covid 19 but plastic cutlery and plastic containers is disgusting in a restaurant ..could not eat it ..sticky tables never again..support our local pub hmmm dont think so .

Great location, brilliant for the kids....HOWEVER food quality was awful, waste of money. What we had was basically for Iceland. Great for a drink but food, stay away.....such a shame this place can't get it right! Would be a gold mine if they got a decent chef and decent produce.

Awful quality food and small portion sizes for the price. Poor customer service - emailed to complain and was told nothing could be done since we did not complain on the day, however we were not approached by a member of staff to voice any opinion. Given coronavirus, completely understand portions may be smaller since food is served on disposable plates however price should reflect this and gives no excuse for being rude following a complaint. Drinks fine and well priced but definitely avoid for food!

Extremely poor quality food, not as described on the menu. Overpriced for small portion sizes and poor quality meals.

This is a great place for families. Lots of space, big climbing frame & garden. Good service & food .

Enjoyed a fabulous roast. Halloumi chip starter was delicious. Roast lamb was fab.. amazing sized portion and good selection of veg. Had no room for pud, though the selection looked great.

Went on Friday31st to see the soul guy, da Costa. We lasted 5 minutes that included getting a drink. Before we went into the public bar. The sound quality was excruciating. Very poor choice of no alcohol beers. Lack of soft furnishings (public bar) make it un-inviting

Tried this place a few times and on both occasions the food has been very sub-par. The pub itself is nice and has a huge outdoor garden, so fine if you're popping in for drinks but I honestly wouldn't bother with the food.

Looked forward to a boxing day roast but no roast potatoes and the parsnips were so thin when roasted were hard. I ordered baked pears with ice cream but they were so hard like pieces of leather. No atmosphere waste of money.

Went for Sunday roast but noticed they had Christmas dinner on. So we had to try it and was not disappointed at all, Turkey was cooked to perfection. It is a big dinner but did managed to eat it all. If you are going for Christmas dinner do try there pear in cinnamon and ice cream, it was just the right balance after a big dinner. Just like to add Jane and mark are fantastic hosts, they are very accommodating and always make you feel welcome. I would really recommend The Chequers especially for families or if you want just a table for two.

We visited at 4pm yesterday, I ordered from the specials board “mac & cheese with bbq beef” extremely dry & a distinct lack of cheese so sent it back. If your going to have a “specials board “ please make sure it’s special. Fortunately I’d had a starter so didn’t leave hungry 👍

Good food, good drinks, large garden with a kids play area

Food terrible. Over priced and waited to long for the most diabolical burgers and pasta dish that stank rotten. Starter was mushrooms on toast and described as bruchetta. Had to argue the bill. Shocking customer service and disgusting food. Total disappointment!

Has a garden and great place for meeting friends

Welcoming staff, good size portions and tasty food served promptly. The pub has been refurbished and looks lovely with pretty hanging baskets and tonight decor. The dining room is light and is a lovely room to eat lunch and watch the world go by.

Pizza was tasteless. No herbs and scant toppings. Food inside may be nice but lots of work to be done on pizzas .

Disorganised. Chewy fatty sirloin sandwich. Ordered cappuccino not sure what it was that I drunk but it wasn't a frothy cappuccino! Daughter had a greasy lasagne. Apple pie tasted like shop bought Apple pie. The venue is great but lacking in many many ways. Disappointed to say the least. Won't be returning.

Staff could,not help us enough food was nice new landlords but improving every visit
