We frequently visit this cafe and generally have a positive experience, though sometimes choice of food is limited. However on latest visit encountered very bolshy and rude girl with pigtails. Such a shame as other staff excellent.

very nice cafe, great that there is no music, staff polite. Only downside is the internet is very poor, keeps cutting and logging you out - so not the place to come if you need to do something important.

Generally pleasant cafe. Can get overfull with laptop workers tying up a table for hours having a single coffee. This is now an issue in many places with sometimes a single person tying up a table for four. Maybe free wi-fi needs to be limited to an hour a day!

It is some while since I last visited Café W upstairs in Waterstones. Since my last visit the café has been extended (via the removal of the travel section of books) thus creating much larger seating area. However, the small library of children’s books seems to have gone (or at least has been moved). My cappuccino was well made; the staff were friendly and there was the remnants of a newspaper left to borrow. Must come here again soon.

This used to be a nice place to get a coffee, but lately they seem to have new staff each time. Yesterday one said it was her first day and the other her second day. Neither of them knew how to make the drinks I ordered, much less operate the till or put my points on my Waterstones card. As for picking up dirty cups from tables or keeping the place clean - think again! Who is managing this place? Can't you recruit people who have some coffee shop experience? If you want the customers to train your staff in how to make drinks you should offer free drinks!

Visited Café W on a Sunday afternoon when it is was not busy and thus plenty of seating was available. For a Sunday afternoon there was still a reasonable selection of cakes and snacks available. Had an excellent cappuccino whilst sitting on one of the soft seats and reading a book that we had just purchased.

The best thing about Café W at Waterstones is the library of children’s books for your kids to read whilst you sit and relax with your refreshments. My coffee was average. There was a good selection of fresh morning pastries (that were very nice). It is possible to order a take-a-way drink so you can wander around the shop with it. I decided to sit with a china cup and sit in one of the comfortable seats.Café W gets an very good rating as my son loved the book corner and the comfy seats and my pasty was fresh and tasty.

Cafe W is on the first floor of Waterstone's Bookshop, in the Travel Books Section. It is a fairly standard cafe serving a a range of very tasty hot and cold drinks and assorted cakes, etc My Mocha was delicious as was a slice of home made cake. There are plenty of seats, both at tables and for lounging in, and, obviously, plenty of books to read. A nice place away from the hustle and bustle of St Peter's Street and well worth the climb up the stairs to the first floor

Found this superb pub hidden in Redbourn and had a Sunday roast. The food is amazing and so well cooked. Friendly staff and a really lovely atmosphere with an open fire and great beer on offer. As far as a traditional Sunday roast, you won’t find better and we will definitely be heading back. We wish we had found this sooner.

The Engineer is my goto pub when I am in Harpenden. They are a very nice car park, and although the area is perfectly safe, it is nice to leave your car safe. I entered the bar to a friendly welcome and was shown to a nice table in minutes. A drink was ordered and delivered quickly, and I was given the list of the day’s specials, all of which sounded good but I had my heart set on more standard fare. I ordered the burger and chips and very shortly after a nicely decorated plate appeared. The burger was well cooked but succulent, the chips crispy and hot; add tomato sauce and it was heaven on a plate. At some point a member of staff appeared to check everything was ok and got a thumbs up. A few minutes after I had finished, the plate was removed and I was asked if I could be tempted with the dessert menu, everyone one knows there is always room for pudding. I ordered the brownie. When ordering the burger I had mentioned that I was intolerant to wheat, and staff automatically switched me to the gluten free brownie. To my delight it tasted wonderful (many don’t). Again the staff left me alone to enjoy my pudding. Shortly after I had scraped the plate clean, a member of staff asked if I wanted any else, I was happily full, so just the bill. The staff have mastered being there when you want them, otherwise leaving you alone to enjoy the meal. I am looking forward to my next visit to Harpenden so I have an excuse for lunch in the Engineer.

Ordered the fish and chips the server was very nice and professionally when it arrived it was all over cooked batter and little fish, when the server called over the Manager he took the food to the kitchen and the cook, according to the Manager said that it was fine. When I told the Manager that I didn't want it he showed no interest at all and his manner was that he couldn't care less and was not bothered, I have been going to this pub for years but will not be going back and will advise my friends to do the same.

The Mac and cheese children’s portion was tremendously small, the toilets were diabolical; and my friends burned their hands because of how hot the water was and it wouldn’t turn off and there wasn’t want soap. On top of that, there was a bad smell in the toilet. My friend had a black hair in his burger and also, the corn was nibbled. The mac and cheese was delicious but it was a shame there wasn’t more of it.
