The best restaurants in St Albans East of England

Family of six which included our two grandsons went early evening on Saturday 1/02/2020. All the meals we had especially the pizza were delicious.The service was great and all the staff were very obliging. We would certainly go back again in the future. Show less

This place was recommended by a friend and I’m so pleased that we tried it. From the moment I phoned to book we felt welcome. I called the day before for a table of six on a Friday night for my daughter’s birthday and although they seemed busy when we arrived and one of their chefs was off they still took our booking which I was very grateful for. The food was lovely and the portions were generous. We all enjoyed our food, both starters and mains. The year before we’d gone to an Itallian in London and ended up with tiny overpriced portions but these portions were the perfect size even for the most hungry of our group! I didn’t manage all of mine but was kindly given a box to bring it home in. We would definitely like to visit this restaurant again.

Was a lovely afternoon treat boating Charlie’s. Lovely atmosphere, the food was yummy and tea was very nice (and strong! Love strong tea!) obviously less strong is available! They have a really good selection of vegan/non-diary alternatives which is super!! Space to sit indoors or outside as well as takeaway, which seemed to be very busy too. Definitely a good sign. Will definitely be back. The team there were lovely and friendly too - thank you xx

We had another great takeaway from our favourite restaurant, Samrat, this evening. Excellent service, lovely staff and speedy delivery. The food is exceptional, very fresh, tasty and generous portions. We ordered chicken dansak, chicken balti, garlic chicken and garlic chilli chicken and the chicken pieces were large and plenty of it. We also had plain rice and vegetable rice, peshwari naan and poppadoms which were all very fresh, delicious and very hot on delivery. Top marks Samrat, you're the BEST. 10/10

We had the loveliest afternoon tea here today.My husband is a coeliac..l asked in advance if we could have ALL G Free sandwiches as I’m not a big bread eater..husband can eat mine..but l wanted “ ordinary “ sweet goodies..no trouble…it has defeated many restaurants In the past. I really enjoyed the cakes..real home made sponges etc…the scone..to die for. They also do weddings..wakes..plus walk in food. The owner & her assistant were really nice..we felt very relaxed. Another fantastic meal at Laurel House. Everything was absolutely delicious. The kids all had burgers which they loved and I had chicken which had an excellent peri peri kick! The chips are amazing!!

I have had the pleasure of savoring Thai food across Europe and America, but Kat's Thai food stands out as the absolute best! Each dish was expertly crafted, with perfectly cooked rice, proteins, and veggies. The flavors and textures transported me to a homemade culinary experience. Kat's has earned a spot on my Christmas dinner menu this year! 😁Highly recommended!

Harpenden has no shortage of ahem coffee shops. But coffee here is head and shoulders above the rest. This haven tucked just off the High Street is where I go, particularly if I’ve been travelling; to rest my gyros and remind me what good coffee tastes like. Always a warm welcome from Damien and his crew. Highly recommend this place!

This is a great place for a large, well cooked breakfast, By 9.30am most of the tables were full and I can see why. Friendly staff, good tea, excellent food and a lovely local relaxed atmosphere. I had the Bubble and Squeak with extra mushrooms and bacon, and it was lovely; good portion, well cooked.

The food was delicious. Fresh and cooked perfectly. The lady serving us wonderful, helpful. A lovely little cafe, worth trying their tasty Greek food and breakfasts. Coffee good and fruit juice freshly made. What a wonderful way to start the day :-)

Been going to this fish and chip shop my whole life and we have missed since it shut from a fire. It’s back and even better than before. Warm and friendly staff and great food

Think people in Wheathampstead are being a bit too loyal to their village, giving this 5 stars.. The chips are dead, there’s no chippie taste or texture to them/ just uniform fried potato with no crispiness. The staff barely speak. It’s all a bit weird, Royston Vasey comes to mind.

Frequently visited. Excellent coffee and bacon rolls. Recently taken to their milk shakes. More seating added a few months ago. Greenwood Park is very popular with dog owners. Saturday morning can be very busy if wanting to park.
