If you’re in Cambridge and looking for the most perfect gluten free fish and chips with a great, clean pint, this is the place! All starters bar a couple are gf, as well as the sides and sauces with a few options of different flavoured batters to create your own meal, hats off to the chefs! Couldn’t ask for better service, all staff were brilliant! Will definitely have to come back many more times with the options available!

Had fish and chips which was definitely above average, good sized fish and well cooked. I don't have any food allergies but noted that the standard batter is gluten free and the staff were friendly and allergy aware. The decor is welcoming and a nice pint of ale too.

Excellent experience all round. Craft beer, first rate food and cheery staff. Friendly and cosy atmosphere with clientele of all ages. Well worth a visit.

The service was incredibly slow, which left us waiting far longer than we expected. When the food finally arrived, it was just okay—nothing particularly impressive or memorable. It wasn’t terrible, but it certainly didn’t stand out compared to other places we’ve been. Given the combination of slow service and average food, I don’t think we’ll be coming back. There are plenty of other restaurants where you can get better quality and a more enjoyable dining experience for the same price. This one just didn’t hit the mark for us.

An okay pie. The filling was good and the crust quite decent. I would’ve appreciated steamed garden peas as an option instead of mushy or minted ones. The leeks in the cheesy leeks were unfortunately quite hard, the amount of mash was a bit small but it was still satisfactory. Overall an okay experience but nothing I’d recommend if you are looking for a great pie.

What a fantastic find. Really friendly staff, reasonable prices and absolutely delicious food! Fantastic options for coeliacs with great awareness of cross contamination - and some lovely, different vegetarian picks as well.

The best food, amazing beer, great service. The place is amazing. Cambridge is full of really good places, but for me this is #1. Had Xmas events, get togethers, quick drinks. It's all good here.

The place is absolutely amazing and the staff is lovely too. They have loads of gluten free options, including fish and chips! I had an amazing time and I 100% recommend this place.

This pub is one of my favourite! The staff is super nice and available, the food is great and with lots of choices from the menu. Their fish and chips is one the best in all Cambridge in my opinion. In terms of drinks, they got a wide range of beers and cocktails. Absolutely recommend.

Went here because I was dying to try fish and chips on my England trip, but couldn’t because most places aren’t gluten friendly. Luckily, we found the Architect! The restaurant is gluten free and the food is DELICIOUS! I absolutely loved my fish and chips. My partner who isn’t gluten intolerant also loved the fish and chips. The staff was very dedicated, especially Pauline. Thank you!

We regularly come back to The Architect, one of our favourite places in Cambridge for an evening meal. The staff are great and service is excellent. I love the simplicity of the menu, which means every dish is fabulous no matter what I order. Of course they also do great range of draught beers too. Including gluten free low alcohol ales which is perfect for us! Highly recommended.

Great fish and chips. One of the best in Cambridge

Went recently for dinner with friends and food was really great! It has a make your own pie or fish and chips, we all went for fish and chips and got to personalize it so all four of us had slightly different dinner. Staff was super friendly, we stayed outside but inside space looks very nice too.

Sticky tables fake reviews. Upon arrival everything was sticky implying they don't use the right chemicals/solution for the surface/material and is left with something a gecko would be proud of. Service virtually non-existent and when approached they couldn't be more dismissive to helping you. More interested in having chats with their friends. Food was ok if overpriced but nothing to write home about and substandard for Cambridge which has some great places for food and drinks. Now the reviews. I have no doubt that shortly after posting this one of their mates if not themselves will post something from a freshly made account which has reviewed half a dozen other local places with stars only and no words. Please weigh up reviews based upon further evidence and actual substance in said reviews. Clearly do not recommend this place and off bat could list dozens of better places with greater choice, service and value. Frankly choose any road. Not surprising given my experience I await seeing a series of reviews of no merit and if they put effort into the fake reviews for a change at least it will take them a few minutes longer.

We read a guide on the best gastro pub in Cambridge and decided to give it a go considering it's shortlisted amongst the best. As soon as we walked in we were invested by the smell of fish and chips, we thought immediately that it was the right place to have it. We didn't take too long to realise the smell was hotting our clothes and would stay there forever (or until washing them). We had some whitebait and scotch egg to start, my son went for a kids sausage and chips with beans, I took a fish and chips with seaweed batter and curried lime and coriander mayo, my wife for a beef ale pie with sweet potatoes, mushroom and beef tomato. The whitebait were well overcooked, the scotch egg ok, nothing special, my fish was perfectly cooked however the curry in the mayo overpowered completely any other flavour, the samphire were "woody", I had to spit the wood in the centre of them. The steak and ale pie was amazing, my son brushed completely his kid menu. The waitress was amazing, she did apologise for the samphire and offered a different side instead, unfortunately the chef closed the oven (apparently) so he couldn't make what I have been offered, I had to go for a slow, but I wasn't impressed. Service definitely excellent. It didn't look busy so every noise would bounce back twice, a table near us where very loud every time they loose a game on their phone and the bartender managed to smash a glass behind the bar (next to us) feeling like he did on our table. I guess it's more a matter of layout, but with a bit of more attention it could have been in our favourite list

Popped in for gluten-free fish and chips. Was served by very friendly and helpful staff. Once ordered, the meal was very prompt and well presented. Could not tell it was gluten-free. Fish was excellent. Will go back again when next in Cambridge.

Very rich, abundant and very good service

Honestly have never come across a more dog friendly pub than the Architect. The owners are incredibly friendly, the beer selection fantastic and the choose your own adventure fish and chips menu was delicious. The fish was fresh, batter crunchy, samphire delicious. Absolute life savers as well- they looked after our dog whilst we visited kettles yard, and we were able to choose treats from the dog treat menu! Totally chuffed, and an unexpected highlight of our trip to Cambridge.

This is a great place to go with family and four legged friend for a meal. The staff a both professional a d welcoming and dog friendly is an understatement. We enjoyed the food and the choice for gluten free vegetarians was exceptional.

Exceptional food, a great selection of beer on draught. Very dog friendly and a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were a joy to be around. Absolutely fantastic for dietary requirements - most of the sides and sauces are vegan and gluten free.

I've been in Cambridge for 3 years and I'm so sad I've just visited this place! I've heard about it from a mate and finally checked it out and I was not disappointed. From the service (such friendly and attentive staff!) to the quality of the food, everything was top notch. I love that they had vegan options (in fact, most of the sauces were vegan!) and I love the build your own meal- very rare to see in a pub. The next time anyone from out of town is visiting Cambridge, this is the place I'm bringing them to! Cheers!

Always great to find a menu with good Gluten Free options. The entire Fish menu (including all sorts of taster starters, we had Scotch Egg) is GF, which is delightful for my coeliac husband. Fish and Chips were fantastic, big portions, crispy batter and range of interesting sides and sauces. A gluten free ale on tap would have perfected it! Almost empty midweek lunch, but lovely outdoor eating option at back. Sure atmosphere would be much better at a peak time but overall a great place.

We had our visit to the architect on a Sunday evening. A little crowded, only outside sitting next to the bin is available. Service is amazing, they are all smiling and polite. Food is great, especially the pie and fries.

The vegan fish is absolutely brilliant, in fact it's the best fish and chips I've had in almost 25 years in Cambridge (including 20 years of non vegan). Grateful to have the full range of options of sides and sauces too.

Fantastic authentic English pub experience! The fish and chips were absolutely delicious - perfectly crispy batter on the outside and flaky, tender fish on the inside. The chips were thick-cut and perfectly seasoned. What really stood out was the excellent service. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu and beer selection. He made great recommendations and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The cozy atmosphere with dark wood paneling and traditional decor completed the experience. Whether you're craving classic British fare or just looking for a great pub to relax in, I highly recommend this place!

Worst fish and chips. Far more batter than fish, not proper chips, tasted like defrosted wedges. The whole thing was just off. Service was great, hence two stars.

I've been here three times so far, and every time makes me want to come back again! The flavours are incredible and everything has always been perfectly fried. The vegetarian and vegan options are just as tasty as the meat and fish dishes, hands down.

Hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had, absolutely outstanding. The pub has a wonderful atmosphere, great music and really friendly staff. We tried the 'frickles' and the halloumi to start followed by cod. The batter was absolutely perfect, gorgeous sauces and condiments. This is the standard bearer for what's possible when a pub knows what it wants to be and executes it to perfection. All for very reasonable prices. You must visit.

My friend was leaving work after 15 years of working together so I wanted something special as his leaving do. He used to absolutely love the corned beef hash from the blue lion in Hardwick but the owners had moved on so that wasn’t a possibility… or was it..? I managed to find that one of the cooks from the blue lion now worked at the architect, so I thought ‘why not let’s take a punt’ and sent an email over to them not really expecting a reply. But to my amazement they did reply, confirmed that the chef did indeed work for them and would make the dish! I was bowled over! So last night we went over for a memorable meal. I’ll never forget his happy little face when he saw his favourite dish again. It was perfect. Everyone was super happy with their delicious fish and pies and the service was lovely. If I could give them six stars I would. (P.s. you should put the corned beef hash on the menu!!)

My daughter and I had a delightful lunch at the architect today, but where to start with the priase? Well, the staff were lovely - friendly and welcoming to all their two and four legged vistors. The food was wonderful too. As a coeliac, I don't often get to have deep fried food these days so it made a very welcome change for everything battered on the menu to be, err, on the menu. Well not quite as I'm vegeratrian, too, but there was still plenty of choice for me. Portion sizes were very generous, too, so no risk of leaving hungry. To wash it all down, we had a couple of cocktails, which were well made and very tasty, so it was an all round faultless afternoon. I don't get to say that often. There's not much to add other than I'll definitely be going back!

Best gluten-free fish and chips on the planet, with a great selection of (home made) sauces. Everything is cooked to perfection and the portions are generous. All their gf menu items are celiac-safe too. There is so much choice, including desserts! I hosted a party here and the service was super, plus I got a free shot for my birthday!

Top notch fish and chips. Almost everything on the fish menu is available Gluten Free. The haddock came in a range of GF batters with different flavoring. I chose Beer Batter and it was as crispy and delicious as I've ever had. Friendly and helpful staff. Essential to book in advance as absolutely heaving with customers. Excellent reservation system and tight management of covers. Car park across the road is free from 19:00.

Really nice meal, only complaint from both visits is every item of clothing worn to the Architect comes home reeking of fried fish, definitely regret wearing a hard to wash woolly jumper - maybe the owner could invest in a better extractor vent or something

In the top three fish and chips I’ve ever eaten. I got a huge piece of Haddock for lunch with the lemon batter and it was to die for - fresh, piping hot, delicious. The chips were crispy and perfectly done, the coleslaw was tangy and a lovely complement. Oh and they have a variety of NA beers along with all the usual alcoholic ones - the IPA I had was stellar. A+!!

I've been eating here 3 times and it's one of Cambridge true hidden gems. Good food, buzzing atmosphere and good service too. Food served in 15-20 mins. First time I had pie (creamy fish pie) today and it was so good. The beer batter fish tasted good too. A car park is available right across the street.

An unassuming place but we can confirm the fish and chips are definitely up there! You get to pick the fish, batter, side and sauce. And chips come with it for about £18. Excellent service too. Will be back!

We walked past this pub style restaurant and was attracted by the busy crowd. It's a typical bar/pub setting which primarily serves fish & chips and pies. Simple menu but they focus on what they are good at. Quality is definitely above the usual average and I would come back if I'm in the proximity. Reasonably priced for this standard of food in a vibrant atmosphere.

I wish more pubs did this, small menu but what they serve is fantastic. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Most fish and batter these days are tasteless but not here. I had haddock with beer batter and both the batter, and the fish were delicious. My wife only eats gluten free food and nearly the whole menu was available to her, and she also loved her Seaweed & lemon batter fish. My son had steak and ale pie and completely cleared his plate (very rare). Table service was brilliant as well, & the three lads couldn’t do enough for us. Reasonably priced, extremely great experience.

We visited The Architect to celebrate our son’s 18th birthday. The staff were so helpful and welcoming and made sure we were all looked after. All of the food was delicious and great portions, especially the gluten free fish and halloumi. We would definitely recommend a visit to this pub for dinner.

4/5- The food was good and the ability to construct your own fish and chips is a good concept. But very limited beyond Fish and chips variants with some pies. Small selection of beers, and odd angles of the bar make it hard for table service to work at this spot. It can't decide of its a sit down or a pub order. However the Fish is really quiet good.

Food was poor. Meat pie crust was very hard. Apple crumble top was just about inedible.

Fabulous 5 star Gluten Free fish supper. Simple not too pricey, great food, service and atmosphere. Can’t fault it. The amount of times we’ve found GF fish & chips on a menu for it to be out of a packet or over cooked and been ok but not impressed is countless or worse still the fish is OK but the chips aren’t GF! The Architect surpassed all of this with super fresh, juicy fish in a light batter with lovely chunky chips. The sides were comfortingly predictable with mushy peas, curry sauce and tartare. The deserts choice are also all GF and a good selection to choose from. Will definitely be returning and thoroughly recommend.

We met up with four friends from the USA and decided not to eat at the city centre pub we were previously in due to no heating on a cold January day! Here at the Architect it was lovely and warm, and Paul greeted us warmly too. The menu is a mix of fish and chips on one side and pies on the other. A simple 1, 2, 3, 4 choice of fish, batter, sides and sauce made for a tasty fish chips mushy peas and tartare sauce lunch. All freshly cooked, with a paddle selection of three ciders for me and some beers for my American friend - lovely! Only small downside was that the mushy peas weren’t hot but I was too hungry to complain! Would visit again.
