The Architect in Cambridge

My friend was leaving work after 15 years of working together so I wanted something special as his leaving do. He used to absolutely love the corned beef hash from the blue lion in Hardwick but the owners had moved on so that wasn’t a possibility… or was it..? I managed to find that one of the cooks from the blue lion now worked at the architect, so I thought ‘why not let’s take a punt’ and sent an email over to them not really expecting a reply. But to my amazement they did reply, confirmed that the chef did indeed work for them and would make the dish! I was bowled over! So last night we went over for a memorable meal. I’ll never forget his happy little face when he saw his favourite dish again. It was perfect. Everyone was super happy with their delicious fish and pies and the service was lovely. If I could give them six stars I would. (P.s. you should put the corned beef hash on the menu!!)

My daughter and I had a delightful lunch at the architect today, but where to start with the priase? Well, the staff were lovely - friendly and welcoming to all their two and four legged vistors. The food was wonderful too. As a coeliac, I don't often get to have deep fried food these days so it made a very welcome change for everything battered on the menu to be, err, on the menu. Well not quite as I'm vegeratrian, too, but there was still plenty of choice for me. Portion sizes were very generous, too, so no risk of leaving hungry. To wash it all down, we had a couple of cocktails, which were well made and very tasty, so it was an all round faultless afternoon. I don't get to say that often. There's not much to add other than I'll definitely be going back!

Outstanding fish & chips with a crispy seaweed & lemon batter! The new dipping sauce Jalapeño & apple was out of this world! Good suggestions given by our waiter. Friendly & helpful staff.

Amazing fish and chips, the waitress was really nice and helped us to build the perfect fish and chips, one of my friend is vegetarian and gluten free and she was really happy to find a menu with plenty of options for her The service, the food and even the friendly mood of this pub were amazing, and the price is really affordable for what you have in your plate! we will be back for sure very soon! We walked past this pub style restaurant and was attracted by the busy crowd. It's a typical bar/pub setting which primarily serves fish & chips and pies. Simple menu but they focus on what they are good at. Quality is definitely above the usual average and I would come back if I'm in the proximity. Reasonably priced for this standard of food in a vibrant atmosphere.

Not stopped here before and was pleasantly surprised, quiet for Cambridge and not too far out from town.... pitstop drink on the way out of town. Thanks 👍

I wish more pubs did this, small menu but what they serve is fantastic. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Most fish and batter these days are tasteless but not here. I had haddock with beer batter and both the batter, and the fish were delicious. My wife only eats gluten free food and nearly the whole menu was available to her, and she also loved her Seaweed & lemon batter fish. My son had steak and ale pie and completely cleared his plate (very rare). Table service was brilliant as well, & the three lads couldn’t do enough for us. Reasonably priced, extremely great experience.

We visited The Architect to celebrate our son’s 18th birthday. The staff were so helpful and welcoming and made sure we were all looked after. All of the food was delicious and great portions, especially the gluten free fish and halloumi. We would definitely recommend a visit to this pub for dinner.

4/5- The food was good and the ability to construct your own fish and chips is a good concept. But very limited beyond Fish and chips variants with some pies. Small selection of beers, and odd angles of the bar make it hard for table service to work at this spot. It can't decide of its a sit down or a pub order. However the Fish is really quiet good.

Fabulous 5 star Gluten Free fish supper. Simple not too pricey, great food, service and atmosphere. Can’t fault it. The amount of times we’ve found GF fish & chips on a menu for it to be out of a packet or over cooked and been ok but not impressed is countless or worse still the fish is OK but the chips aren’t GF! The Architect surpassed all of this with super fresh, juicy fish in a light batter with lovely chunky chips. The sides were comfortingly predictable with mushy peas, curry sauce and tartare. The deserts choice are also all GF and a good selection to choose from. Will definitely be returning and thoroughly recommend.

Food was poor. Meat pie crust was very hard. Apple crumble top was just about inedible.

Pub is nice and quaint, staff are super friendly and the vibe is nice. Beer selection is a little tame and sadly the fish and chips was nothing special, the small dishes were better and a little more out there, but they were being carried by their sauces too

We met up with four friends from the USA and decided not to eat at the city centre pub we were previously in due to no heating on a cold January day! Here at the Architect it was lovely and warm, and Paul greeted us warmly too. The menu is a mix of fish and chips on one side and pies on the other. A simple 1, 2, 3, 4 choice of fish, batter, sides and sauce made for a tasty fish chips mushy peas and tartare sauce lunch. All freshly cooked, with a paddle selection of three ciders for me and some beers for my American friend - lovely! Only small downside was that the mushy peas weren’t hot but I was too hungry to complain! Would visit again.

Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff! We ended up staying for 5 hours and had food and multiple rounds of drinks.

We had a birthday lunch here for my mother's birthday. The staff were absolutely amazing, if you needed anything they made sure you got it. The bar lady helped my stepdad with the strange choice of drink he required and the barman plaued my mum's favourite song. The food was amazing, loved the fried gherkins. Definitely recommend the pie yummy. Value for money, great service and lovely location.

Came as a group of four for dinner. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we had a great time. I suggest you try the fish and chips over the pies. Cocktails were very well made so definitely give those a try. Would come again!

We love going here. One of the best fish and chip spots in Cambridge and best of all it's GLUTEN-FREE!! It's built in your own style menu is great, where you can choose your fish, batter, sides and sauce. Thay way every one gets what they want.They also have a great kids menu. They also have delicious pies if you don't eat fish. Can highly recommend.

As others have mentioned, the fish and chips are excellent. Choices of fish, batter side and sauce allow for a chance to change up the conventional and try something new.

Looking for a place at the last second, they accepted us with open arms... (not literally, but they are very kind and warm) And then the food is so hearty and delicious. I ordered a Lamb Shank prepared on a Sunday, and it was magnificent.

Friendly and attentive staff. Great food. Good atmosphere. The live music on a Friday night was a welcome surprise. The one downside is that it's quite smokey inside so expect to smell of fried fish afterwards.

Stopped by for a quick drink. Very expensive - £15 for a pint of cider and a glass of prosecco!! Won't be going back, not worth the walk from the centre of town.

Genuinley my favourite pub in Cambridge. The food is some of the best in the area (halloumi), the couple who run it are unbelievable, hardworking and make it feel like you’re at their home. 10/10

Buzzing pub that serves good food (limited choice) but all gluten free and plenty vegan and vegetarian options.

Didn't eat, so can't star. Lovely service and drinks, went with aunties, and father in trip to Cambridge. felt welcome event though full of students. Lots if seating and pleasant bar staff.

Could not have stumbled upon a better place for dinner. Matt and Mya were so accommodating and who knew you could get gluten free fish and chips- what a god send! I love how you can construct your own meal. Amazing idea. Paul was so welcoming, had great recommendations in regards to drinks. Amazing team, can’t wait to be welcomed again soon! Thank you :)

The new management should be proud: Friendly and prompt service and excellent gluten free ingredients food: I had the fantastic Scotch Egg then battered Haddock, chips, samphire, with tartare sauce.

Nice atmosphere quiet even though moderately busy, met up with an old friend for pre dinner drinks. Nice real ale with a variety of strengths, good if you prefer the lighter ales. Didn't eat here, but from what I saw the meals looked nice and many people seemed to be enjoying the food.

One of my favourite pubs in Cambridge. Great pies, and I really like the fish and chips. They have good selection of beers too.

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Delightful and cozy restaurant with a small but excellent menu. The crumble with berries and custard was a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and creamy. Service was lovely and the Irishman behind the bar poured a great pint of Guinness. Would definitely return.

Fish in chips were flavourful and very crispy

So, basically, this remains a pretty good pub for fish and chips (which are excellent, almost top of what I know in/around Cambridge), and you could have a pint watching rugby on TV. But we had to wait 1 hour 20 minutes for our order, and that suggests something is not right at the back (the staff at the front were not very busy at all). Hence the "average score" of 4*, but much depends on where your priorities are ...

Start to finish, unbelievable. Had the haddock and chips, but was perfectly made. Service was impeccable, atmosphere was perfect. The Architect is the place to be.

The best haddock I have ever had (probably)! Walked in by myself and was greeted by a friendly and helpful barman who showed me to an available table. All the staff I met were so friendly (not overly) and helpful. I had googled best places for fish as thats my love and am visiting Cambridge. I don't normally go for fish and chips but this place looked amazing. The haddock in lemon and seaweed batter was sublime, as was the samphire and tartare and lemon/seaweed sauce. The chips were really disappointing, soggy, and some not fully cooked, hence the drop in points. Overall, brilliant service and food just really disappointing chips. If they get the chips sorted this place will be one of the best fish and chip restaurants in Britain. P.s I love that there are great veggie and gluten free options' plus the brilliant pie options. Would gladly take my whole family there as a result.

We took a trip to Cambridge over the Bank Holiday Weekend and luckily for us this bar was having an event. There were so many craft beers and ciders to try, I couldn't pick just one but they serve a tasting paddle of 3, 1/3...

Wonderful fish and chips, you can choose your side, your seasoning or go with the classic one. The “two” guys are super professional and kind.

The best fish and chips in the whole wide world. We took the classic haddock with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce (which was delicious and paired really well with the crispy fish), absolutely fantastic. The chips were really good and in big quantities. The haddock was fresh and well fried, given the fact that the beer batter was crispy and its flavour mixed beautifully with the haddock, which was soft and tender giving contrast with the batter. The people working there were just as professional and friendly, thing that I loved! As soon as we walked in our dog was met with a bowl of fresh water and a treat, which he absolutely enjoyed. The location is also very casual but still modern and traditional, most like a pub. This is the best restaurant/pub in all of Cambridge, definitely makes it in my Top 5 favourite restaurants!

Top notch fish and chips. Love the focused menu - tasty smaller dishes, fish and chip, and pies. Loads of options for how you want your fish and chips (even a vegan option, lots of different sides, and dips). Fish was flakey, fresh, and delicious with good sized potions. Mushy peas were a bit bland - but had various favored salt that you could add to customize it. Loveliest staff (one kept forgetting to bring the bill so gave a slightly lower review). We sat on the back patio. Great atmosphere. Had a fab night.

Very welcoming staff, cosy environment, tasty food

Just walked up with my wife who had a broken shoe... First time here. Ordered our first drinks then found out the owner just sold the place and rang the bell... free drinks for all 😁. Great timing! Best part is they have Bluemoon on tap!

Walked back home with my hubby and since my shoe broke we decided to step in for the first time. How funny that once we got in, the bell rang which meant all drinks free for everyone from the owner 😂 we had the chance to speak to the owner who’s that night was the last one as he sold the business. Atmosphere great, everyone friendly, clean and chill.

A nice and busy pub in Cambridge centre. We sat outside. The seats were not too comfortable and on the side there are smelly bins. Food and price was average but good. Good place to stop for a quick bite to eat. They take cash.
