Fort St George in Cambridge

Great pub, on the banks of the Cam. We can grab a bite to eat and watch the oars go by.

Very nice and friendly place. Food is very good, too. Nice position near Cam river bank. Nice garden for the summer, too. Shame it's not closer to the water but that can't be helped as there's a footpath in the way. Best to cycle to as car parking is a bit of a trek. Highly recommend if you're in Cambridge and especially if you're local. Had great fun every time I went.

This is my favourite pub in Cambridge and it has been for years. The food however USED to be terrible. But that has changed now! The food is really good pub food and worth going to. They have a new Winter menu which is great and you can enjoy it by a cosy fire in the winter. Delightful. We have been served the last few times by a really friendly gentleman called Shane, so thank you to him for being so accommodating to our 3 year old and pleasant to us. The Fort St George can now reclaim its place as the best pub in Cambridge ❤️

My favorite Cambridge pub based upon ambience. Love sitting next to go the fire with a pint. Beautifully set back from the river in a large green.

This place is great. Lovely warm atmosphere, lovely staff and delicious food. Definitely a go to place for dinner this winter.

We had a booking at 12pm on Sunday 3rd November 2024 for 25 people. Arrived a few mins early and was immediately greeted and shown to our table by Dylan. Amazing service all around 👏. Food was delicious and was enjoyed by all. Would definitely recommend

Went for dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday and had a lovely time (18 of us). The food was delicious and orderable at the bar or via an app, which meant everyone paid as they went and there was no stressful having to sort out a joint bill! One of us had brought a homemade birthday cake and Lillie (one of the staff members) couldn’t have been more helpful in bringing us plates and a knife to cut it. Thank you for a lovely evening - will be back and would definitely recommend :-)

Great food service very quick compliments to the chef , very tasty sausage and mash . Really enjoyed my visit lovely pub by the water and warm fire to keep you toasty . Staff very friendly and thank to Dylan the gm for being so welcoming and helpful with my party . By the way they serve Asahi beer here greet pint .we will be back .

Honestly the best summer pub in Cambridge! You can enjoy a range of delicious beers, whilst lounging on the banks of the river. The staff are friendly, helpful and the food is great too. I always make time to unwind at the Fort St George when the suns out! 😎

Really enjoyed a dinner and a drink. Will definitely recommend to those wanting lovely pub with great atmosphere. Big thanks to our server Zara, the bartender Lydia and manager Shane who was very professional and attentive!

I won't be visiting this pub until the tall guy who was behind the bar works there. Extremely rude and didn't even apologise when he realised he completely misunderstood the situation. Also the staff wanted to keep the door open despite everyone inside the pub was freezing and wearing coats while eating. Food was average.

Lovely food and excellent first aid.

We went to this pub with a lot of friends, four of us went to order some drink at the bar together. I made my order first, and the lady at the bar was asking for my ID, which I didn’t bring with me, so I said sorry, and allowed my friend to make the order. Then, my friend made his order and showed his ID to the lady. She refused to take his order as she thought we were together. I could still accept that (although not very happy) so we just went back to our seat with our friends. Then the lady came out and saw us at the table and asked us to leave! So ridiculous! I do understand that I might not be allowed to order alcohol if I look young and don’t have my ID with me, but I don’t think it was reasonable to ask us to leave just because I did not bring my ID! Also, the four of us were not white (2 of us are Asian and 2 of us are from the Middle East), so they only asked the four of us to leave but allowed all the others who are European and white to stay! So ridiculous!! I strongly believe she was also trying to cover this up by saying “sorry this is the rule” at the end when we did decide to leave without arguing with her. The whole thing was so ridiculous! I would not recommend this place, perhaps especially for people who are not white… Now the owner has replied, so I would like to add a bit more details. We were totally fine with the fact that we were not allowed to order alcohol as I did not bring my ID and I look young. I made this clear in my original comment. The thing that made me unhappy was that we were asked to leave when the lady finally saw us on the table with our friends! On your own website you said that you were “family friendly” and “accessible to all ages”, but you asked us to leave just because I did not bring my ID (and I am actually already 24)! Additionally, the other three of us who went to the bar together with me were also asked to leave despite the fact that they even had their ID with them! The lady was also quite rude to us in my opinion. She eventually did say sorry to us but she did not look sorry at all. Really bad experience that finally we were required to leave early and part with our friends. I also highly suspect that the lady was (at least a little bit) racist as she only asked the four of us who are not white to leave.

Sadly no food on this day but Lois are barmaid was helpful, Curtis and happy.

Only stopped for one quick drink - service good. Lovely view of parkland one side and river on other. Plenty of outdoor seating.

Birthday drinks and meal with my family a couple of weeks ago, reminded me what an ace location for a beer in the sunshine the FSG is, best pub on the river in town! Friendly staff, excellent atmosphere, good value food.

Didn’t eat here but it’s set in a lovely space.

Lovely place by the river and Midsummer common. For a Coeliac this place has always been hit and miss, today was no different. The food app has a no gluten section but no starters were in stock and 3 mains were out of stock leaving the expensive steak or a salad as the GF options. Ended up having a nachos which was not on there no gluten menu! Probably due to a may contain warning.

We returned on Saturday evening -having enjoyed a drink on Friday- wanting an evening meal -about 6.45pm. We found a table and chose our food only to discover that most of the menu was not available due "to the huge number of orders that day" We made the best of what was available but for a busy pub owned by Greene King it was very disappointing.

First experience of the Fort. Everything was fabulous, impressed by care given to allergies, however it would have been nice to see the barmaid smile. The other staff managed it and were very friendly and welcoming.

A very authentic English pub on the riverside. Delicious food, great English ales. A little charming English trifle. The service is nice, but the tables are not wiped down, so they are a little sticky, dirty plates, glasses, and cutlery often remain on the table.

A beautiful sunny day, lots of customers inside and out, this didn't phase the staff, letting us know there is a delay on ordering food, this was perfectly understandable. The access to the disabled toilet/baby changing facilities was difficult, storage of unknown items, plus a flood, that appears to come from the out of order toilet next-door- the member of staff was so helpful in making the disabled toilet facilities useable. I was impressed and grateful of the help and assistance given by the team member. We enjoyed our lunch, chicken and bacon baguette. We continued to enjoy the garden, cold drinks, met with fellow photography buddies. Continued with looking at Mindful Photography.

Went there today for a small lunch and the staff went up and beyond for my experience! Food was delicious and staff were very accommodating. Lois made sure I had the sauces I requested for my food and Lauren gave me a delicious pint! Would totally be coming back for more after this experience! 110%

Really nice riverside pub. We sat outside on a sunny day. The bar was busy but there were loads of staff and everything went well.

After some initial issues with my booking, Fort St George (location of first date) went the extra mile to make our 25th anniversary lunch very special. Thank you and see you in 12 months if not sooner.

We visited on a Saturday evening as two families - food pretty good but service weak. Family one and family two stood in the queue together to order exactly the same meals - family ones arrived in less than 15 minutes and family twos half an hour later and then one order was missing meaning we were all eating at different times. Zero apology from the indifferent staff which - accepting mistakes happen - would have been the right thing to do. I’ll not bother with food there again as there are plenty of other places nearby who understand customer service.

Varying items on the menu to suit most people's taste buds, with optional extras. Lots of outdoor seating. Very popular - it's been in Cambridge for many many years. Right on the river side next to Midsummer common so great location. Would recommend.

The great location of this traditional riverside pub means that it is often very busy. The staff valliantly keep the service at an acceptable level but there is often a queue at the bar and a wait for food. That said it is a great place for an evening with friends.

I took some friends for lunch who now live overseas but did live in the UK some while back, they wanted a nice pub lunch so I took them to the fort St george, they loved it, the food was fresh, tasty and above all yummy. Everybody had nothing but compliments, so well done Fort St George !

The food was good. The service wasn't very good as the young staff were quite miserable, no smiles and definitely didn't want to be there. The toilets were very small, but at least the loo roll was well stocked, but one of the hand dryers wasn't working and the facilities themselves weren't the best, though they were adequate there was a baby change u it in the ladies, however this is very close yo the sink and if you needed to use this then nobody could wash their hands and your child eould be in full view of strangers.

Great riverside pub food was amazing good choice of beers and alcohol free drinks. One downside is there is no vehicle access we are all mobile so we found somewhere to park on the other side of the river with a bridge direct to the pub but that is the only downside.

Had a long walk along the river and called in here for a refreshing beverage. Was charged £9.20 for two halves of larger! The glasses were filled an inch short. I bought this to the managers attention and he was really quite rude and begrudgingly topped them up. He also berated a new member of staff, who was still training, was clearly her 1st or 2nd shift, in front of my husband at the bar. When leaving via the river path, we had to negotiate ourselves and our dogs around what looked like sick, to get out. Over charged, rude manager, half measures and unsanitary outside area. All in all, not a good experience.

Very nice atmosphere, next to the canal, very nice interior. The service was average because while the staff were very polite and generally cheerful, there were quite a few mistakes made with the orders... The food was not good, the mains were satisfactory, but the one plate of natchos we got was disappointing.

Decided to have an evening meal at this lovely pub been a few times . Had the Duck hash good choice tasty and desert after had pear frangipane . Both turned very good no major wait quick service which can happen on a hot day here . We actually sat inside a bit more peaceful. Staff pleasant and checked on us pricey on beers but to be expected for Cambridge these days Shout out to the young lady called Lois very helpful.

Had a great evening on the first visit. However, as a popular pub it was very on the second night. We did book, but staff shortages meant a 1 to 1.5 hour wait for food. So we moved on to the Boatman Pub and had a lovely Lamb Shank! Both are Green King Pubs.

Lovely pub, great location on the river. Expensive beer, and sometimes a little too quiet for a city pub. One of my favourite spots in summer. Sometimes struggle with queuing across bar area instead of people actually using the bar (spreading out) as a bar should be used. This is England and I know we like to queue but a bar can easily serve more than one person at a time. Here quite often you find the line of people right across bar and out the door. Great spot though.

Had a lovely lunch time meal with friends . Dylan’s behind the bar very friendly and chatty . Food was excellent their house burger was so tasty 3 of us had this ,and would highly recommend it . Also the steak ciabatta was very good . Menu for a green king pub had plenty of choice . Must give a shout out to the chef that day all the meals cooked lovely . Look forward to our next visit .

Beer selection decent, but really expensive. All tables were booked when we went on a Thursday evening, so don't expect to just turn up and find a table.

Great location, but otherwise the service is slow, the staff are frustratingly incompetent and on the last three occasions I have visited they’ve been out of stock of a number of drinks options. Please get this sorted!

Bit of a wait at the counter but the staff was great and the food and ambiance were amazing. Only thing missing was a fire in the hearth.

Love the place and the location next to the river side with a cosy atmosphere, a life fireplace that guys are keeping up through cold spells. Nice and quiet during the daytime and buzzing on sunny days and evenings. Its one of the few gems in Cambridge...

Great pub, great location, great food and great staff

On one of those rare sunny days we sat outside to eat and suddenly every table was full. Service was quick and food was good. A pub like this on the river Cam needs sunshine to thrive, will be going back soon when the sun comes out.

Nice little pub near the river Cam. Outdoor seating available in the garden, overlooking the green, indoor seating is cosy and busy. The quality and quantity of food is very good and the staff are friendly and helpful. Good variety of food and drinks are available, take a look at the menu to see what I mean. Well worth a stop to have lunch if you're in the vicinity.

Nice location, but ridiculously busy when the weather is good and understaffed. We ordered drinks on the greene king app - took they took 45 minutes to arrive on Friday and even then we had to go up and ask where they were. What you’d expect from a greene king tbh.

Super position on the river with a spectacular green behind. Quality ales and friendly atmosphere. Guy excellent host.

Loved this pub! The food was outstanding and the service was even better. Zara and Sophie at the bar were welcoming and inviting and full of smiles. Definitely recommend this place!
