Fort St George in Cambridge

The river and common views are fantastic with lots of outdoor seating area. Dog friendly outdoors and in the pub area (not the restaurant).

I asked for something alcoholic in his hand, the man did not answer intelligently, we asked for a hot drink, I think he said we closed the hot section because he did not want to make it, and there was no such thing written on the menu, they did not want to give it to me, they acted unimportantly.

Pub on the banks of the River Cam, in an area of ​​bike rides and rowing clubs. Good food and prices. Nice atmosphere

We went there to eat with my family to taste English cuisine and I am now reconciled with it! The setting is very nice, cozy with a view of the shore and the waitresses are kind and smiling

Definitely one of the best pubs I've been to in Cambridge. Good selection of beers, tasty lunch and friendly staff. Plus I asked to buy one of the pint glasses as a souvenir and ended up getting one! Thanks again!

Decent pub in a great location. Lots of cosy rooms to choose from. Dogs made very welcome. Nice food but ran out of Sunday roasts by 7pm Sunday so had to opt for a pie.

Came by with my family visiting from home and the service was amazing! We were greeted with a warm smile from the lady, Sophie, at the bar. The food was delicious and brought to us fairly quick. Can’t wait to come back again!

Waited 15min at the bar for 2 hot chocolates. When they came they weren't hot. Had to get them replaced. Waited another 10 min. Food was edible but overpriced.

Encantador día soleado caminando por el río a este pintoresco pub , he estado aquí antes y no estaba decepcionado con la comida o el servicio a pesar de que estaban muy ocupados , se encontró con una sonrisa del amable gerente detrás de la barra y tenía pinta encantadora de Camden pálido . Sentados afuera en el jardín esta vez, tuvimos el Duck Hash, se ve increíble y sabe muy bien y también lado de huevo escocés de salmón y una de sus hamburguesas de la casa esperó unos 30 minutos para la comida, pero se le dijo que no biggi , disfrutó del sol , La comida salió a tiempo Volveremos.

Sucio pub - gran ubicación. Pequeño lugar encantador junto al río, pero absolutamente sucio. Los inodoros eran malolientes y no habían visto un limpiador en mucho tiempo. Tomé una copa de vino con sedimentos extraños en el fondo. No recomendaría y no comería aquí.

Bonito pub situado en la leva del río con un montón de cerveza y licor y un buen menú de comida para elegir. Los estudiantes reciben un 20% de descuento.

It's an amazing place, with the river,and the famous bridge, the ghost than appear by there, the Midsummer park behind it. Well it's a good experience, you have to visit it.

Greene King, so you know what you're getting, and it's OK. But can't beat the location, on Midsummer Common, right on the Cam. Great views. Cozy spot.

Regular pub but a big plus here is it is a dog friendly one.

One of my favorite pubs in Cambridge. Situated right on the river. Wonderful views from inside and can sit outside next to the river as well. During winter time it's cozy and it is nice to go solo. During summer time it can get busy, but there is so much outdoor seating there is room for everybody. I definitely recommend checking it out. Staff was very friendly.

I actually had a great time at Fort St George, a very warm, cozy pub near the Cam river. It is always awesome when you are well received by friendly staff and have a nice night with friends. I ordered a burger with fries and beer, which was all very good, despite the burger meat being a little bit hard. The fries were specially seasoned. It is sad I visited the place on a winter night, as the river view must be astonishing on a summer day. I hope to come back to appreciate the view in another season!

The atmosphere and service in this place is what makes it second to none, was served by a wonderful young lady I think her name was Sophie , who provided a wonderful happy smile and top quality service all the other staff were equally as lovely and the atmosphere in the fort St George was also lovely and a pleasure to be in

Really lovely place. Great service and really friendly staff, especially Sophie, she was a massive help whilst i was there. Lovely atmosphere, great drink selection and lovely location. Definitely recommend if you’re in town looking for a place to grab some drinks

Came here around a week ago, food was absolutely divine, great drinks on offer. All the staff were incredibly helpful and the worker, (I believe Sophie) was very kind and welcoming. Will be coming here again

Popped in for a cheeky glass of wine to start the year and Sophie was amazing in suggesting wine. She created an awesome vibe and definitely deserves a pay rise for her hard word and passion

We have always loved this pub and the food. However, our last visit was disappointing and underwhelming. We were wondering if we were just unlucky with our choices, we ordered the turkey dinner and mac and cheese. The turkey dinner was not worth the price at all. The turkey slices were small and tasted and looked like they belonged in a sandwich to be honest, it had a huge chunk of cabbage and brussel sprouts taking up most of the plate, a few chunks of roast potatoes. The stuffing was hard and inedible and there wasn’t much of that either. the mac and cheese seemed store bought as the few bits of pasta were drowning in the sauce like a soup. We were upset we spent around £70 for all this. I do not often feel the need to comment this harshly, however this was just a huge shame and a waste of money for us. I hope you take this comment as constructive as this really is a beautiful pub.

Group of us went for my daughters 10th birthday. Staff went out their way ro adapt the menu so she could have want she wanted (kids steak). They cake over and wished her happy birthday and offered her a free dessert. We were given spare pig in blanket for our dog. Food arrived, perfectly cooked. We'll definitely be coming back

Lovely, warm welcome again at the Fort. Greeted with a huge smile from Rosie when we came in out of the cold. She was very happy to tell us about the beers on offer and was very knowledgeable about my wine choice too. Will definitely be returning!

Nuestra camarera (Lily) habló con nuestra hija sobre la universidad y fue tan amable, que se muestra tanto cuando el personal es bueno! Nice atmosphere and service but as usual at Green king pubs in Cambridge they run out of food so the menu is limited. No duck, no Kiev, no fish only burgers available for an all day menu you would expect the options to be available this has happened before at Green king pubs we going to have to give these a miss in the future as full menu never seems to be available

What used to be an interesting pub has become yet another magnolia green king foodery. Bizarrely, all four staff decided to individually check in a large group of diners meaning no bar service for anybody else for _thirty_ minutes. We left. Anybody thinking this is how you run a pub should probably be working in McDonald's. Might be ok for unimaginative food for unimaginative people.

Had a booking for over 40 people. I was in correspondence with the pub before the booking, sorting out details and pre-orders. The pub was incredibly useful during all of this, and helped the night go super smoothly. Would definitely recommend.

Great food and I loved the beer. All the staff were brilliant not only with us but with the children in the party that joined us. We had lots of help getting my wife's wheelchair to the pub and to our table. It transformed our day out.

Great pub, on the banks of the Cam. We can grab a bite to eat and watch the oars go by.

Very nice and friendly place. Food is very good, too. Nice position near Cam river bank. Nice garden for the summer, too. Shame it's not closer to the water but that can't be helped as there's a footpath in the way. Best to cycle to as car parking is a bit of a trek. Highly recommend if you're in Cambridge and especially if you're local. Had great fun every time I went.

This is my favourite pub in Cambridge and it has been for years. The food however USED to be terrible. But that has changed now! The food is really good pub food and worth going to. They have a new Winter menu which is great and you can enjoy it by a cosy fire in the winter. Delightful. We have been served the last few times by a really friendly gentleman called Shane, so thank you to him for being so accommodating to our 3 year old and pleasant to us. The Fort St George can now reclaim its place as the best pub in Cambridge ❤️

This place is great. Lovely warm atmosphere, lovely staff and delicious food. Definitely a go to place for dinner this winter.

My favorite Cambridge pub based upon ambience. Love sitting next to go the fire with a pint. Beautifully set back from the river in a large green.

We had a booking at 12pm on Sunday 3rd November 2024 for 25 people. Arrived a few mins early and was immediately greeted and shown to our table by Dylan. Amazing service all around 👏. Food was delicious and was enjoyed by all. Would definitely recommend

Went for dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday and had a lovely time (18 of us). The food was delicious and orderable at the bar or via an app, which meant everyone paid as they went and there was no stressful having to sort out a joint bill! One of us had brought a homemade birthday cake and Lillie (one of the staff members) couldn’t have been more helpful in bringing us plates and a knife to cut it. Thank you for a lovely evening - will be back and would definitely recommend :-)

Honestly the best summer pub in Cambridge! You can enjoy a range of delicious beers, whilst lounging on the banks of the river. The staff are friendly, helpful and the food is great too. I always make time to unwind at the Fort St George when the suns out! 😎

I won't be visiting this pub until the tall guy who was behind the bar works there. Extremely rude and didn't even apologise when he realised he completely misunderstood the situation. Also the staff wanted to keep the door open despite everyone inside the pub was freezing and wearing coats while eating. Food was average.

We went to this pub with a lot of friends, four of us went to order some drink at the bar together. I made my order first, and the lady at the bar was asking for my ID, which I didn’t bring with me, so I said sorry, and allowed my friend to make the order. Then, my friend made his order and showed his ID to the lady. She refused to take his order as she thought we were together. I could still accept that (although not very happy) so we just went back to our seat with our friends. Then the lady came out and saw us at the table and asked us to leave! So ridiculous! I do understand that I might not be allowed to order alcohol if I look young and don’t have my ID with me, but I don’t think it was reasonable to ask us to leave just because I did not bring my ID! Also, the four of us were not white (2 of us are Asian and 2 of us are from the Middle East), so they only asked the four of us to leave but allowed all the others who are European and white to stay! So ridiculous!! I strongly believe she was also trying to cover this up by saying “sorry this is the rule” at the end when we did decide to leave without arguing with her. The whole thing was so ridiculous! I would not recommend this place, perhaps especially for people who are not white… Now the owner has replied, so I would like to add a bit more details. We were totally fine with the fact that we were not allowed to order alcohol as I did not bring my ID and I look young. I made this clear in my original comment. The thing that made me unhappy was that we were asked to leave when the lady finally saw us on the table with our friends! On your own website you said that you were “family friendly” and “accessible to all ages”, but you asked us to leave just because I did not bring my ID (and I am actually already 24)! Additionally, the other three of us who went to the bar together with me were also asked to leave despite the fact that they even had their ID with them! The lady was also quite rude to us in my opinion. She eventually did say sorry to us but she did not look sorry at all. Really bad experience that finally we were required to leave early and part with our friends. I also highly suspect that the lady was (at least a little bit) racist as she only asked the four of us who are not white to leave.

Sadly no food on this day but Lois are barmaid was helpful, Curtis and happy.

Birthday drinks and meal with my family a couple of weeks ago, reminded me what an ace location for a beer in the sunshine the FSG is, best pub on the river in town! Friendly staff, excellent atmosphere, good value food.

Didn’t eat here but it’s set in a lovely space.

Lovely place by the river and Midsummer common. For a Coeliac this place has always been hit and miss, today was no different. The food app has a no gluten section but no starters were in stock and 3 mains were out of stock leaving the expensive steak or a salad as the GF options. Ended up having a nachos which was not on there no gluten menu! Probably due to a may contain warning.

We returned on Saturday evening -having enjoyed a drink on Friday- wanting an evening meal -about 6.45pm. We found a table and chose our food only to discover that most of the menu was not available due "to the huge number of orders that day" We made the best of what was available but for a busy pub owned by Greene King it was very disappointing.

First experience of the Fort. Everything was fabulous, impressed by care given to allergies, however it would have been nice to see the barmaid smile. The other staff managed it and were very friendly and welcoming.

A beautiful sunny day, lots of customers inside and out, this didn't phase the staff, letting us know there is a delay on ordering food, this was perfectly understandable. The access to the disabled toilet/baby changing facilities was difficult, storage of unknown items, plus a flood, that appears to come from the out of order toilet next-door- the member of staff was so helpful in making the disabled toilet facilities useable. I was impressed and grateful of the help and assistance given by the team member. We enjoyed our lunch, chicken and bacon baguette. We continued to enjoy the garden, cold drinks, met with fellow photography buddies. Continued with looking at Mindful Photography.

A very authentic English pub on the riverside. Delicious food, great English ales. A little charming English trifle. The service is nice, but the tables are not wiped down, so they are a little sticky, dirty plates, glasses, and cutlery often remain on the table.

Went there today for a small lunch and the staff went up and beyond for my experience! Food was delicious and staff were very accommodating. Lois made sure I had the sauces I requested for my food and Lauren gave me a delicious pint! Would totally be coming back for more after this experience! 110%

Really nice riverside pub. We sat outside on a sunny day. The bar was busy but there were loads of staff and everything went well.

After some initial issues with my booking, Fort St George (location of first date) went the extra mile to make our 25th anniversary lunch very special. Thank you and see you in 12 months if not sooner.

We visited on a Saturday evening as two families - food pretty good but service weak. Family one and family two stood in the queue together to order exactly the same meals - family ones arrived in less than 15 minutes and family twos half an hour later and then one order was missing meaning we were all eating at different times. Zero apology from the indifferent staff which - accepting mistakes happen - would have been the right thing to do. I’ll not bother with food there again as there are plenty of other places nearby who understand customer service.

The great location of this traditional riverside pub means that it is often very busy. The staff valliantly keep the service at an acceptable level but there is often a queue at the bar and a wait for food. That said it is a great place for an evening with friends.

I took some friends for lunch who now live overseas but did live in the UK some while back, they wanted a nice pub lunch so I took them to the fort St george, they loved it, the food was fresh, tasty and above all yummy. Everybody had nothing but compliments, so well done Fort St George !

Great riverside pub food was amazing good choice of beers and alcohol free drinks. One downside is there is no vehicle access we are all mobile so we found somewhere to park on the other side of the river with a bridge direct to the pub but that is the only downside.
