On arrival at the counter I asked if there were any bacon or sausage sandwiches. The young female behind the counter said No! and said there was a sign!! I looked at the sign and thought my six year old grandson could have done far better. She was was not friendly and not at all interested in helping us! We looked at the pastries and noticed flies landing on them. We decided just to have drinks and these were dispensed abruptly. There was a smile from one of the other ladies working there. At our local Waitrose Cafe in Hythe, Kent the staff are wonderful and are very helpful.

Oh dear. Arrived at 09.50 ready to meet old friends for a catch up and something to eat. The cafe was totally deserved. Chairs on tables, no food and ready for 10 am opening. We wandered round trying to find someone to ask if it was opening. No one knew. Finally found someone who had to go on a phone to find out that 'toilets are broken, can't open'. This is not the first time this has happened - either water 'off' or no toilets. Not good enough. No notice up to tell customers what happening. Not at all impressed. OK so the toilets not working but please how about letting people know ??? Poor, poor customer service.

Service really can be a bit slow even when not busy. They can take forever. They really need to speed up. Pleasant staff and good atmosphere. Management, as usual, are nowhere to be seen! Seating area clean and pleasant. Never any choice of soups, one choice, take it or leave it. Often hardly any sandwiches left after 2pm, why dont they replenish them.

With plenty of parking and a nice environment, the Waitrose store seemed a sensible choice for a quick lunch, but on arrival we found a queue & limited menu. The line of 5 customers took 20 minutes to clear (mainly due to too many fancy coffees & a slow barista) and by the time we got to the till, we found most items used up and were told to expect a further 40 minutes wait. Had to make do with a hot chocolate and was given the more expensive type without being asked which I wanted.

We visited the cafe on Saturday at lunchtime. There were no sandwiches available, and the only hot food was soup or toasties. It is such a shame because the ambience is extremely good, the staff are pleasant, but there is simply no sign of any management, and the management of the store is also invisible. We were told that if we chose sandwiches from the store, then they could be purchased at the cafe. It is incredulous why someone could have taken some sandwiches off the shelfs, if there are no sandwiches available at the cafe. No one seems to care about the cafe, and frankly what is the point of displaying a whole menu of food, if none is available. When food is available the wait is always 40 -45 minutes, by which time your drink is cold. Such a shame, but honestly why bother? Waitrose denotes quality, but ap lass that is not displayed here.

Considering its target audience, or perhaps because they can be quite forgiving, Waitrose’s Trumpington cafe continues to fail to get it right. Whilst some of its staff are very helpful (mainly the younger ones in my experience) the cafe itself needs to be so much better. Or why bother having the facility at all? I’ve not reviewed the cafe before though I use it regularly to meet with pals when I’m doing a shop. But our experience today has pushed me over the line. It wasn’t busy yet there weren’t any staff members on the floor to clear tables and generally keep an eye. The sofas in particular were very dirty - stained and covered in crumbs - and there was an abundance of dead flies along the large windowsills. I actually used my own wet wipes to clean up the seats and table, but drew the line at sweeping the floor..! Doesn’t Waitrose have a trained cleaning team? Being part of a supermarket doesn’t excuse it from treating its cafe customers with the same respect as a regular cafe would. Avoid avoid avoid. If you have time, head over to the Shelford Deli for coffee instead; it’s 5 mins away in a car and you’ll have a much better experience.

This Waitrose is located adjacent to Anstey Hall in Trumpington, and we walked past it en route to or from the hotel and the Park & Ride on the two days that we were there.

Our experience was a mixture of other reviewers’. The menu looked nice enough - we chose Welsh Rarebit with roasted vine tomatoes, and a fish finger wrap - and we were lulled into a false sense of security by the short queue and quick till service at 2pm on a Saturday, and £1.17 off with a My Waitrose card. We took our number to a table that had been cleared (many hadn’t but staff came round clearing up from time to time) and waited for the food to be brought out. 35 minutes later, we saw someone wandering around with what looked like our order, peering at each table but passing us by. We called her over. They’d lost our order number. Basic mistake.

The staff are polite, friendly even, but the cost of the items is incredible.I opted for pancakes, served with yoghurt, honey and blueberries. Now pancakes to me suggest something cooked in a frying pan, at least 6-8 inches in diameter. What appeared as my breakfast were two circular objects, about the size of a drink coaster, trying their best to hide in shame under a blob of yoghurt. In a half hearted attempt at Nouvelle Cuisine someone had dribbled a thin line of honey in a zig zag across the plate and thrown half a handful of blueberries randomly into the blob that was attempting to hide the shamed pancakes under it's mass. The pancakes were cold, obviously the arctic mass of yoghurt had chilled them, or they had spent so long on the stone cold plate after their brief flirtation with the microwave, that any heat that had been irradiated in had radiated out. The small cooked breakfast the wife had was equally dire, a tomato, grilled, a sausage and a rasher of bacon, along with 2 slices of cold toasted bread. That was nearly six pounds. All in all next time we are heading for a Sausage and Egg McMuffin.

Finally got to the till to be informed that the Paninis we wanted would take about 30 minutes as all cooked food was prepared in order (toasted Paninis!). I then had to dive back to the cold cabinet and apologise to break through the queue, to get some very average sandwiches (which I wouldn't have chosen but didn't then have time for an alternative) to eat. Bearing in mind they were just taking orders or totting up chilled food, the delay was hard to explain. Having to queue for 20 minutes to be told of a 30 minute wait for some toasted Paninis!! Before you think this is a negative review it is not, just an observation over many visits and maybe a gentle, respectful suggestion to the decision makers? On this occaision like many others at different times of days, spanning many visits. I have observed that the bench seats / tables are taken very quickly. Even the hard wooden chairs and tables but less so. Bench seat areas hold the most appeal it seems.I noted that most bench tables are designed mainly for 4 people in this branch. So easily blocked if dining or drinking solo.I took note of how many "table blockers" there were even in busiest of times. These are those 1) sent by maybe a spose / partner / significant other to have a drink whilst they shop. Hence ensuring that said valuable table at the end to hold for longer - second has a drink, there maybe a cake or two but they sit and table block. Newspapers open, not saying a word, often empty cups. Either plus or minus reminant tray, cups from individuals used and left before.Frustrating for me and the person I went with on this particular visit and others recent past. To stand uncomfortably balancing a full tray often with boiling hot drinks, plates, glassware, cutlery. To look pleadingly at the "empty cup table blockers" into maybe "guilt" and movement !! Only to find they look up blankly or even defiantly and return again to borrowed newspapers and cold empty cups.So may I respectfully emplor to the Wautrose decision makers, put near the bakery area the coffee point / comfortable bench seats/ tables or make more at front of store - your "coffee/ tea pitstop" where people can chill out and wait or loitre with newspaper? That for encouragement / notices for diners only in your restaurant ! As you will have separate coffee & cake areas?Maybe have a matre dee who allocates tables ? Alongside suggest have table order system to minimise cues at start of process by counters (blocking shoppers)?Have lockers for trolleys if having a break?Trolleys abandoned, again block shoppers in busy times !More bench seats that are for Two's, rather than one individual blocking 4 seat potential.Potential for profits to increase, as people area specific would attract a turnaround, greater, faster. Opportunity to upsell and target sell / advertise to area (cakes on special or tasters even) try different coffee or products on sale in store?Restaurant tables managed. No heavy lifting or heavy waiting. Tables cleared promptly and turned around faster.Option, big table clearances onto your wheeled tall trolley even. Improve efficiency of frequently observed empty handed waiting staff on return from delivering food.Saying all that I love Waitrose, their products their staff etc.But waitrose you are losing customers by not providing relevent, specific to need seating "chill meal eat?" Or "chill newspaper coffee cake".Table blockers should not be allowed !!!Thank you for reading my review x

This is a real 'shock' of a review, but a shock well deserved. Any thoughts of receiving friendly and professional service from staff at this Waitrose café quickly evaporates when experiencing this hectic Waitrose branch in Cambridge. On one occasion recently one staff member was incredibly rude to me when serving at the counter, when I was served a disgraceful coffee with all froth and no coffee. Once finally sorted out I was then confronted with very dirty tables with mess everywhere. Overall, this Cambridge branch has many worrying issues, such as the hectic parking and unfriendly John Lewis 'partners', so I now tend to avoid it altogether. An example of where the John Lewis Partnership has failed conspicuously with its customers, and where 'partners' think of themselves first, and the customer second. Please, if you value your sanity and self-respect, avoid this Waitrose branch altogether. And that's if you can get a parking space in the first place, which I very much doubt!

There was a very distressed little girl who nearly wet herself becaue she wouldn't use the toilets. I had to queue and use the disabled toilet which was also dirty. My husband had been waiting outside for me for 15 minutes and I had to explain the problem to him and ask him to complain to the customer service desk. By the time I had accessed the toilet we went to the cafe only to be told that we had missed the breakfast slot - it finishes at 11.30 am. With our coffee and cake served by a surly staff member who was 5 minutes in the kitchen trying to find a plate to put the cake on we eventually went to sit down only to find numerous tables heaped with dirty dishes. When we finally found an empty table we moved the dishes ourselves and cleaned it as best we could with napkins. It was an absolute disgrace.

Decided to visit waitrose cafe for lunch as I was at work nearby, stood at the till being ignored waiting to order by two staff members chit chatting between themselves. Ordered cheese and tomato toastie, the top half of the sandwich was crispy the bottom half was incredibly soggy. There were no clean tables to eat at so I picked the cleanest one, no knives in cutlery holder, no napkins either. Should have just bought a sandwich and ate it outside and not paid the premium of sitting indoors.

We had high expectations of this cafe as it was Waitrose, but it was very disappointing. The food is fine, and the service just about acceptable - but the tables were dirty, the window sil next to our table hadn't been cleaned in days. There were uncleared tables when we arrived that were still not cleared when we left. Being in the super store it has a captive audience; if this were a high street cafe it would be empty.

Good coffee, especially if you can get it for 30p by using My Waitrose card and paying the extra for a large coffee. Excellent buns, really recommend Malborough bun. The queues can be very long. Why can't they have more staff? Also really let down by filthy toilets, which they seem incapable of cleaning on a necessary basis.

Make sure you have your waitrose card for a free coffee, spend £10 and get a paper to read with your excellent breakfast. A very relaxing start to the day.

The staff do add to the experience as they are nearly all patient, polite and friendly. I marvel at their patience when the queues are long and they don't appear stressed. It's a pity though that the food on offer is ridiculously expensive for very little. Surprisingly too, there is very little healthy food on offer, it's mostly danishes and cakes which is a shame. They should change the menu.

Waitrose at Hauxton road, Cambridge had a big re-fit in autumn 2013. Gone was the cheap, but good-and quick, pre-cooked, café-style catering. In came much more expensive meals cooked-to-order. They don't get much trade now. Waitrose card holders can get a free coffee at the main entrance, although nobody checks the cards. Complained about the catering to head office but they just defend their decision and do nothing. Doubt it even pays to run it now.

By 3:30 pm the counter is almost bare. On a recent visit all that was available for a 3 year old to eat was soup - chicken and chorizo, not exactly child friendly. The children's meal advertises a choice of 4 types of sandwich but there is never more than 2. On the positive side the food that is available is tasty and good value - you just have to like what they have at the time. The cafe itself is clean and the staff work hard to keep it so but the (cold) air-conditioning is so fierce that most people sit in their coats - it's particularly cold in the soft seating area. Perhaps the idea is to discourage you from staying too long! I take my Grand daughter to the cafe regularly because it's convenient and hoped that the refit would improve things, but it's worse if anything. The counter staff are friendly and helpful so perhaps the problems are due to poor management.

Long wait at the counter watching frustrated staff grunting moaning and growling while struggling to operate new coffee machine. No Gluten free meal options not even a piece of cake!! Our latte coffees had to be returned twice and we finally left them hardly touched on the table. We were not the only people unable to drink them far too strong and lots of froth. The staff can not be to blame its the new machine apparently they can't get used to it... According to management they cannot serve Gluten free food in case of cross contamination never heard this in a cafe or restaurant before!!

After a long drive up from the south east this was a really nice find. Freeze kingpin Cambridge is unusual. It's a great Waitrose really good size. The cafe was spacious and ultra efficient with a nice well spaced out range. The food and coffee was delicious. It was the perfect antidote to the joys of the M25.
