We booked for a Christmas Meal at this gorgeous pub fairly early back in September...Yes we were that organised....our original booking was for a table of 12 of us ladies for our annual Xmas meal. Sadly, as our booking date approached we had a number of the ladies have to drop out...for various reasons - including 3 on the actual day due to sickness. Reducing our original table number...but...this was not an issue and was dealt with in a very professional and understanding manner. I thank you for that. The owner of the Peldon Rose is lovely and was so understanding as were the staff who could not do enough for us. The food was lovely, the staff were so nice and friendly and it is just, in simple terms a really nice pub with very lovely food. For our Xmas meal, for starters, some had the Brie in breadcrumbs which was plentiful and gorgeous. Others had the pate, equally lovely with crispy salad and toast....followed by a full Xmas Turkey dinner (massive portion) with brussels, roastie tats, pigs in blankets, stuffing, nice veg, homemade Yorkie Puds which were amazing... others had the beautifully cooked Feather blade steak served on horseradish mashed potato and curly kale with a red wine gravy....gravy to die for in fact...must point out again that the homemade yorkshire puds were amazing and so were the homemade mince pies that followed at the end with our coffees (we didn't order puddings from the Xmas menu as we went for the 2 course option but two of our ladies changed their mind and had the homemade apple crumble and custard....they loved it) Would like to say thank you to all of the owner, staff and chef......thank you Peldon Rose. Highly recommend you.

We took our father to The Captains Table yesterday for a birthday lunch. The staff were very friendly, the food was excellent, massive portions. The fish and chips were especially good. Served with smiles. We had a problem getting our disabled father from his wheelchair back into the car and the waitress and chef came to the rescue. Such lovely people, we would probably still be there if they hadnt helped us! I can’t praise them enough, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant .Thanks guys

Visited a couple of times recently, had the steak and ale pie and the revisit we both had the turkey roast m. Both excellent esp the veg which was cooked to perfection on both occasions. Dogs welcome in the public bar which is welcome. It’s vital we all support our local pub the only one in the Braxted vicinity , food is great value and a good selection of beers and wine.

Before I write my review I have to say that it is about a visit on Boxing Day and I fully appreciate the bar staff who were there to serve us. This is one of three "must visit" pubs when I visit Broadland. We look forward to a boat trip to Salhouse Broad followed by the 20 minute walk to this warm and (usually), welcoming pub. Being attached to the Woodforde's Brewery, I can be assured of enjoying a good pint of one of their excellent ales or beers. Braving the dull, chilly and damp conditions we took the dayboat(which came with our holiday home) down river and moored at Salhouse Broad. Imagine our disappointment to find every table reserved for diners. Fairly predictable and I had considered booking but I suspected bookings would be for diners only, despite there being a large restaurant area. After first being told "No walk-ins today," in a none too friendly way, I explained our party of 6 only wanted drinks, crisps and nuts and wouldn't be there much above an hour, we weren't ejected from the premises and a kindly elderly gentleman enjoying a sofa near the Brewery "sales" area said there was now a table there. This accommodated 5 and I took the easy chair opposite, so we were able to enjoy our Boxing Day tipples before walking back for 20 minutes and enjoying the boat ride back before dusk. Throughout the time we were there many of the tables in the bar remained empty!!! Having worked over the Christmas period, on many occasions, I appreciate people who give up their "holiday" periods, often without extra pay, and as such make a point of being patient and polite. However, one would have expected a pub attached to a Brewery (in such a way that the draught beer is from barrels stored therein) would be glad of wet sales year round. Nevertheless it won't stop me aiming to visit whenever possible. Highly recommended.

A group of friends we went as a gathering as a meet up for Christmas. We each had a menu, I asked if there was another menu and the server said they were both the same! We all ordered and were brought our meals and enjoyed our drinks. On leaving I noticed a further festive menu on the counter and we asked about this the server said she had given us one! but she hadn't, we would have loved the festive choices. So was very disappointed. The pasty was also disappointing the pastry was really difficult to bite into and quite tasteless so was a big letdown. This is one of our locals so we hope things improve next time. We also had to ask for a further discount voucher which should have been offered when we paid the bill.

Probably the best pub I’ve visited in 30 years of frequenting pubs, no exaggeration! Ambiance is always on point, multiple areas to sit, (or stand), both indoors and outdoors, menu is full and varied, food is always perfect, customers aren’t rushed into making decisions, table service all day, every day, and, the best part, the staff are always polite, courteous, informative, and, above all, friendly, especially an absolutely brilliant young lady with dark hair, whose name escapes me, (sorry if you’re reading this), but only because I’m getting old! 👴🏼😊 Bonus, it’s dog friendly in all areas except the main restaurant. I used to take my two Akitas, Strauss and Lucie, until both passed away recently. 😔 Seriously, if you’re looking for a place to eat/drink, with a friendly vibe, The Artichoke on the Green, Croxley, is your place! 👌🏼
