My wife and I booked a meal in the restaurant last night . We had great service from friendly attentive staff. My wife chose Scampi and Chips . The portion was generous, served with chunky chips and crunchy but tender scampi . I had a sirloin steak again with lovely chunky chips and a really tasty perfectly cooked steak . We also shared a chocolate brownie with ice cream and cream which was delicious . The bill came to £49 which we thought was good value including a couple of drinks . The atmosphere was welcoming and we would definitely go again to try one their pizzas cooked in the wood fired oven !

After going in with my same sex boyfriend, the whole pub including the bar woman roared with laughter while sarcastic female tones were made followed by giggles from the barwoman. We were both physically exhausted after continously swatting flies and the people in there you would be forgiven for thinking were gangsters. An 60 year old man tryingb to be 18 again " wannabe gangster" swearing and with a back to front cap on broke wind loudly by the bar which the barwoman thought was hysterical and burst out laughing. The green dragon beats this place hands down

I was hired for live music at the Cross Keys, upon arrival I was approached by the manager who spoke to me like I was dirt, I was so tempted just to tell him to stick the gig where the sun doesn't shine but I remained professional and carried on. I started to perform and I was greeted by people within the bar who told me they really enjoyed what I was doing, I was finishing my first half and the manager cuts me off for the jukebox and tells me that he would let me know when to come back on. I went outside for some air and to cool off and was approached by loads of people asking me why I had stopped, I explained about the managers behaviour and they were appalled by him, he then came outside and told me I would not be finishing my performance! I was absolutely blown away by how rude and arrogant one person could be. People inside the pub actually left after seeing how I had been treated and told me they would never return. I don't think that a person like him should be representing a business that has potential but for this reason I'm giving it 1 star and it doesn't even deserve that. Stay away from the Cross Keys Public House.

Could you explain why you have large blackboards outside your 'restaurant' if you do not have any of the stated meals available. Is it unreasonable that at just after 2pm on a Sunday that anyone should expect a 'restaurant' in a central town location to still have food available. Is it also not expected that you would treat people with respect. I advise people to stay clear of this so called restaurant as clearly it is not. What a let down. Thankfully the Green Dragon was still serving food and us and the people you disrespected in front of us spent our money there. Your loss.

Visited today for a quick bite to eat with my mum. Made to feel very welcome by both the landlord and landlady (landlord even offered to carry our drinks back to the table when I went to the bar because I am heavily pregnant) - he made conversation and was very pleasant. Food was good. Not fantastic but honest pub grub, and plenty of it! I had hunters chicken and mum had a fish finger sandwich. Both were good quality. The salad was very fresh and we didn't leave hungry! Only negative would be lack of bbq sauce on chicken. But I am sure if I had asked for more, they would have accommodated this request. Cost £17 for the two meals and four soft drinks - A reasonable price I think. Place could do with some tlc but I understand it is mostly a locals drinking pub. Having said that, we had no issues with the cleanliness at all. All in all I would return without a doubt for a spot of lunch again :)

It's 6pm and I walked in and the rude and aggressive landlord said he would not serve me because I was 'tipsy'. I am offended that as a landlord the purpose of a pub is to get tipsy. If I was unsafe or dangerous then I believe he has the legal right to make that division. Under current licensing laws I believe his personal judgement of the situation to be totally incorrect. I have lived in this town for 16 years and have never been made to feel so unwelcome in my life.

Considering that my friend was already quite ill and the fact he was denied help from a service was really disappointing, the lady who owned place was beginning to become quite angry and followed us out the door raising her voice and being very rude. this pub seems to be getting worse. Filthy glasses, tables not cleared. Television is constantly on, with the volume loud, it seems to be for the benefit of the landlord alone, as unless it is a major football or rugby match, nobody seems to be watching it apart from him. Because of the TV, the ambience of the place is all wrong. The food looks nice, but as I prefer background music, rather than the news or Eastenders, I can't bring myself to try it. An earlier reviewer pointed out the rudeness of the landlord and I have to agree. This is a pub based on a clique for much of the time and you can easily be the focus of a very unfriendly welcome. The food is standard cash-and-carry stuff. Their happy hour from 5pm is great value at £2 a drink but the barman hates doing it and his resentment can boil over into anger if you are not one of his mates. Great if you are a pensioner in for a cheap, big portion but low standard lunch. Otherwise, I agree - avoid!

It is almost 4 years since my last visit. It was the last market day in Wymondham prior to Christmas. The market place was busy as was the Cross Keys. Although I only popped in for a quick drink many others were enjoying a meal. Having worked in the trade prior to retirement I was casting a critical eye on the food being served and speed of service, both were first class. Whilst there I used their free Wi-Fi which was very fast.Prior to leaving, I thanked mine host and was given a Happy Christmas wish as I left. I shall be returning in the New Year for food which I am sure I will enjoy. The only reason that I did not order food during this visit was due to very limited time and I prefer to visit when things are a little quieter. From my observations I would recommend it to anyone visiting Wymondham.

We were after a quiet drink and a game of pool after work and were 'greeted' by a very bitter bar tender and before we had a chance to sit down we were refused service and use of the pool table as one of our party was driving and only wanted to drink water. The reaction we recieved was "what do you think this is, you go to a pub you have to buy a drink - end of story" despite the fact that 3 of our party were wanting a drink. Avoid if you're not a local..you will be shunned!

We had jumped into Wymondham for a look around and fancied a snack around 3ish. The Cross Keys is a delightful pub and I have not been in it for around 30 years. However on entering it was warm, friendly and clean. I ordered a latte and a cappuccino to be told that it was coffee or coffee, so we settled for coffee. It wasn't a problem and indeed was a surprise that the coffee was so good.I ordered prawn sandwiches on Wholemeal Bread and Tricia ordered Brie and cranberry sandwiches and this I where it got really good. The bread was like door stops, moist and plentiful and delicious, the salad accompaniment was fresh and tasty and you could not ask for better. Now I know that this was not a meal, but well done to Pete and I suspect Angie who made them because on a cold wet Saturday afternoon in Wymondham it was exactly what was needed. We went there early on a Wednesday lunch time. It was empty. The Wolf beer was good for my family but I had the first one out and it had clearly sat in the pipes for a while. It is the sort of old fashioned country pub that Norfolk does so well. Bags of character. The seats were fairly low. My mother, admittedly 5 ft in her stockings, was struggling to reach the food on the table. She enjoyed her meal despite that. So did my better half. However my "trio of sausages" were all carpet sausages, of very low quality. Bit disappointing. The TV was loud even though nobody was watching it. We visited the Cross Keys for an early evening meal, i dont feel that we had an overly friendly welcome but the atmosphere seemed nice.We ordered from a good menu and specials selection, and were very pleased with the food when it arrived - the portions were large and overall very tasty, service was ok.The biggest dissapointment was when it came to paying, having had a tab at the bar and having done a rough mental calculation as to the cost of our meal we were shocked when we were asked for over £10 more than we were expecting. When we asked for a break down or a 'bill' even we were told they dont do these! By now, feeling rather uncomfortable and given the barman's rather frosty and unhelpful attitude, we pondered whether to even challenge this but not having a money tree we decided to go through the menu with the barman - after pointing out that he had clearly overcharged our meals he very abruptly took our refund out of the till without so much as an apology and walked away.Such a shame our meal ended this way as the food was great but i certainly wouldnt go again! Make sure if you go you check your bill...if you get one!

Don't expect the Ritz, just good wholesome & great value. The only negative is that, because a succession of temporary landlords, it can sometimes be a bit quiet.

Absolutely fantastic 8 course tasting menu! Everything was delicious and well executed. Nick was great, he looked after us all night. It was lovely to see the chefs coming out with the food to explain the dishes. Would highly recommend well done

If you want burgers, pie, pizza, fish&chips also on our table location - on a busy food/pedestrian pass- plus a classy constant ‘C bomb’ dropping female barfly atmos - then this the place for you! Used to be great - what the heck has gone wrong? No specials, no drinks service, no enquiry as to if everything was ok (maybe too embarrassed to ask!). Great family (away from the classy barfly) ‘cafe/burger joint - but not a couples restaurant - maybe a commercial choice but not for us sadly anymore.

A lovely place to stop off for a filling bite to eat, with a large assortment of sweet and savory dishes and snacks on the menu. Friendly staff that don't 'overdo it', whilst ensuring a relaxed and attentive service. May be more pricey when ordering for groups of people, but individually it is worth the money. The selection of food we bought was recieved positively, cooked well to order with large and ample amounts, which recieved strains of 'oohs' and 'aahs' of satisfaction, especially towards crispy, flavoursome Scampi, and vinegar-coated, chunky chips. Very pleased with service, food, and cafe layout itself. Only issue is towards prices of drinks, but that can't be helped much due to inflation. All round good experience, leaving us full until the afternoon.

What a lovely manager. It was close to shutting as I pulled in to sort out my baby from crying on my way home to Essex. The manager even though closed invited me and my baby in so I could feed him and offered me tea. Thanks to her I had a happy baby who slept the rest of the hour journey home. That kindness I will never forget and now we plan to go in every time we make the journey now to see the parents. 10000/10

We had a very pleasant meal even though the service was very slow, staff were polite. Very nice atmosphere even though there was a very loud man in the bar. I asked a man who I assume was the manager that there was no soap in the ladies toilet he said he would deal with it but when I was leaving both soap dispensers were still empty so I had to use the disabled toilet. A mocca was ordered and we were charged for a Hot Chocolate and an Americano which came to £5.50, if we had known it would be this price we would not have ordered it, we queried it and were told we should have looked at the menu, there was no Mocca mentioned so we should have been informed.
