What a lovely manager. It was close to shutting as I pulled in to sort out my baby from crying on my way home to Essex. The manager even though closed invited me and my baby in so I could feed him and offered me tea. Thanks to her I had a happy baby who slept the rest of the hour journey home. That kindness I will never forget and now we plan to go in every time we make the journey now to see the parents. 10000/10

We stayed at an AirBnB in Gissing and this was the nearest pub. We booked Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. We had the beef roast dinner and it was very good. My daughter had the beef burger which she enjoyed. There was plenty of parking. The place was very busy when we arrived at 1pm so I would recommend booking. Service was okay, no-one checked how our food was throughout the meal, this is one aspect that could be improved.

Stopped by as needed to find somewhere to eat after we had been out all day. Arriving at just after 18:00; whilst the Sunday evening 'Late' menu was limited and they had many things not available due to having a really busy weekend, we were really impressed with both the food and the service. Portion sizes were great and served quickly. We'll be back.

We had lunch here mid-week and found it excellent so decided to try the Sunday lunch. Well, that was a mistake. Couldn't believe it was the same restaurant. Vegetables were either under cooked or over cooked, roast potatoes were submerged in gravy, and overall it was not an enjoyable experience. I've given my review two stars, that's 5 for the mid-week lunch and nil points fo the Sunday lunch.

The following review has been put together by our whole party who visited in June: Came as a group of friends around a month ago for lunch. Food was average and expensive but expected for the area (but we’re from further up north where things are cheaper). Two female staff who dealt with us were brusque, abrupt and quite rude in their tone (similar to a stereotypical doctors receptionist). One rolled her eyes at one of our party when ordering and some staff were clearly having a disagreement as one was heard speaking rudely and complaining about a colleague to another staff member around the corner from our table which we found really unprofessional. One lady who served us had dirt beneath her nails which is really off-putting when being served food. Finally, when I visited the toilets, the smell of faeces was overwhelming. At first I put this down to perhaps somebody having just visited the toilets, but I went back to the toilets before leaving and the smell was still there. It seems like the toilets are not cleaned regularly, perhaps because the staff are too busy being rude and arguing with one another.

Went Sunday for breakfast. Whilst the small breakfast was fine husband ordered an omelette and croissant. Had to wait for the croissant to be cooked which was fine but when it came both the omelette and croissant were well done to say the least- the omelette was practically burnt. No apology, just that she’d let chef know. Didn’t appear to do a vegetarian breakfast either. Won’t rush back

As you can probably tell from my title, I absolutely love this pub! Stunning original interior, beams everywhere! A massive fireplace, stone flooring, it’s just a beautiful building that’s completely unspoiled which in itself is completely refreshing. The food is great too, we visited with our daughter for her birthday and we arrived quite late on a Sunday so it was just the bar menu available- this still had an excellent choice. Very family friendly, the staff are lovely. Would highly recommend a visit!

EDIT in response to your reply, the lady herself informed us we arrived at 12.45! We left at 1.35. We will vote with our feet. As I said we were told it was a 40 minute wait for food not a 40 minute before you even took an order. If you had said at the start that you couldn't take walk ins we would have left. My husband went in today at lunch time to ask about food. He was told there was a 40 minute wait for food. He ordered us drinks. I followed in. After 20 mins we asked to order but we were told we needed to wait still before we could order. After 40 minutes waiting we still couldn't order. We paid for 2 drinks that we would not have had if they'd been honest to start with. People on every table waiting for food. If you have a problem tell people, we would have left. No empathy. The lady who appeared to be in charge couldn't care less! No discount on our drinks either, no apology. Awful customer care .

Travelling in England for business, room and welcome was lovely and warm. Met up with 2 friends in the Old Ram for dinner and it was excellent. All but one staff were excellent, however on our leaving the next morning the staff member who provided our breakfast and would be checking us out of the hotel was rude. I opened the exit door to let a staff member into the hotel and my husband from inside the hotel used his key fob to open the boot of his car as I would be putting my small case in the boot while my husband settled our bill. This staff member raised her voice to both my husband and I and walked very quickly to the both of us and stated " you have the bill still to pay!!". The accusation and intonation was that my husband and I were attempting to leave without payment ( we are both in our late 50s) I addressed her by letting her understand that I was placing a case into the car whilst my husband paid the bill ( he was still in the hotel with his small case sitting near the reception area). This is a normal procedure and one I am sure many people do. I found her attitude rude and uncalled for. she later apologised to my husband about her outburst which I have to say would have been heard by other guests having their breakfast...very embarrassing for both of us. Considering an email to the hotel with this complaint. I am aware that people do leave without paying their bill and that's awful for any business and I was just really surprised at why she thought that's what we doing. I have my own theories on this but after many hours of travelling and thinking I will put it down to her having a bad day.

Absolutely loved this place, plenty of parking directly outside the entrance, and I noticed what I think was an overflow car park opposite the venue. Interior was warm and with logs burning in the fire place which added to its charm, plenty of choice of alcoholic drinks but I went there for food which was ok and a tad over reasonable cost. Staff were nice and very approachable, as it offers rooms for the night I would imagine they were upto the quality of downstairs but have marked it zero stars as I have not stayed in one so I cant possibly score.

First visit to this restaurant. Looked nice on the website, so we booked for a table for two for 7pm, a couple of days before we were due to go.On arrival we were promptly seated. Social distancing was in evidently place and the restaurant had tables far enough away from each other to ensure this was the case, so we felt pleased with that. A polite young lady who had seated us and asked for our drink order, came over within a couple of minutes with our drinks and provided us with menus. We choose fairly quickly as we had already seen the menu on the website.Well we waited, and then waited a bit more, and them some more again and when it had got to 7.25 pm and no one had been over i went to the desk, where our server was and what appeared to be the manager and politely asked if we had been forgotten as no one had come over take our order. The response by the lady who appeared to be the manager was 'No, you haven't been forgotten'. 'Ahh' i said, 'Its just that we have been waiting 25 minutes'; to which this lady turned round and promptly informed me that they were extremely busy and even busier in the kitchen!'Well that told me, didn't it! It was so my fault that we had booked a table a few days before and we were now being made to feel as though it was our fault that our order hadn't even been taken as they were busy.We explained to the young girl when she came over a few minutes later that we would be just paying for drinks and not eating there. 'Ok', she said and then bought over the bill.On our way out, a young guy who we had seen serving drinks to tables earlier, was flapping by the door and calling out (to the lady we had previously spoken to who we thought was the manager) and saying 'Mum, mum! we have run out of menus!!'We did not sadly get to sample what looked like a very n ice menu on the website and were sorely disappointed with the service, hence the 1 star review.Shame on you Old Ram. If you cannot cope with the volume of people, then do not take the extra bookings, or if you are short of staff or extra busy on the night, then please have the decency to let your customers know and apologise as they are seated or waiting!

Our first meal out in four months..Only signs of being covid safe was hand sanitizer as we walked in and a screen that was separating 2 tables.Tables not very well spaced out and staff not wearing visors or masks and leaning over the customers to put food on the table... felt uncomfortable and unsafe...Service was not good, we left after our average main course as they seemed more interested in filling tables than serving the customers already seated.. we waited too long for someone to take our dessert order, in the meantime the customers on the next table walked out after just a drink as they had been ignored.Unfortunately our experience has put us off eating out in these unusual times...

I must say overall overpriced for the quality and quantity of food, £8.50 for a glass of NZ Sauvignon (Covent garden prices), £13.50 for a main course of mussels of which there were only 16 and not big! Our menfolk has the steak and kidney pudding which they really enjoyed - you need a good appetite. The ladies had Seabass with new potatoes and veg. Really good. desserts nicely presented.

Lovely stop for lunch today. The first visit for some time to this historic coaching inn. The real ale and menu was superb and it was a most enjoyable stop.

We live close to this restaurant and have been coming here many years. However a couple of years ago we had a number of poor experiences. We stopped coming as a result. Today, we visited for a roast dinner and we had the most beautifully cooked meal that we could not fault in any way. The place was buzzing like it used to and the front of house meetings and greetings of staff were 5*. I will be making sure that I recommend it to local friends and family again as I can see that there have been some great improvements that have put this restaurant very much back on the map for us. Thank you so much for a lovely afternoon.

Skipped this for a long time due to a bad experience, but it's changed hands and is now MUCH better. Best breakfast I've had for many years. I had mushrooms on sourdough bread with 2 fried eggs on top, other half had a full English with an extra sausage, and toast & butter, unlimited tea or coffee, came to £16. Everything was freshly cooked, plates were hot, coffee was filter coffee - not too strong as is always the case with these flashy machines - everything was lovely. Service very good. This will be a regular treat from now on. Best to book as they sometimes have groups in. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Called in here mid week mid October 2019, place was fairly busy for a lunch time, there only seemed to be 2 members of staff in this large who split there time between waiting tables \ cleaning and serving at the bar. Service was OK - ish but I think only because I asked for what I wanted whenever I saw a waitress on a nearby table. My order for another drink was forgotten (Waitress later apologised when I called her over after a 30 minute wait.)

This was a good central meeting point for lunch with friends. Not been here for many years, but pleased to say that the lovely old inn hasn't changed much at all, and that includes the food!!!!

We stayed one night at The Old Ram on our way to Southwold. The room was very quirky and was split level with a double room at the top and an area for a bunk bed below. It was very comfortable and even provided earplugs in case the traffic noise outside disturbed you (it didn’t disturb us at all!).

Popped up to The Old Ram on recommendation from a friend, for a quick catch up dinner. Quickly shown to a table, and our drinks order taken. Nice menu, if slightly limited. Food was served at a nice pace, and we both enjoyed our meals, I had the Cajun chicken with risotto,my friend the burger. Desserts were lovely.

Dirty table that had to be wiped after we had been seated. We stopped for lunch. Average sandwich with chips that had been cooked a couple of hours previously with a side salad (nice) and a poor excuse for coleslaw.

We telephoned at short notice for a table for seven people for 1930 , as we had been let down and The Old Ram were happy to accommodate us . We duly arrived and made very welcome and were looked after extremely well .

I had the Haddock and chips, well the menu says chips but I got fries. FRIES AND CHIPS ARE NOT THE SAME THING. The Haddock was really nice and a good size the non chips (fries) was tiny barely a mouthful. You get more fries in a Macdonalds happy meal. Every meal with fries was the same. You need to realise you're just a pub and are not a Michelin restaurant and normal people want proper adult sized portions especially considering the price. I would not choose to go there again (not my choice this time. I had to go to a takeaway after I left as I was still hungry. Poor very poor.

First visit since change of management, very impressed. Pub has undergone changes, feeling fresh and spacious whilst maintaining typical village pub vibes. Menu range very good, proper pub grub, reasonably priced. Our dogs were welcomed too.

Went for Sunday Lunch Waiter spilt one of our drinks across the table on serving, mopped it up but didn't top it up. The Roast Pork was tough and inedible, very fatty and couldn't cut the meat with the knife let alone chew it. Response from staff on both situations " oh sorry about " Very Poor food and service!

We went to the Kings Head in Brooke for a work meeting and was pleasantly surprised with the calm lovely atmosphere and stunning food. Waiter and Waitresses were all very pleasant and professional and the selection of Drinks was outstanding. Thank you for a fantastic evening and we will all be back very soon.
