We had a lovely meal with some amazingly tasting food. Would thoroughly recommend this place. Our only concern was, it felt very cold in the restaurant at the lunchtime and we all sat in our coats till we had a coffee at the end, which was a shame!

Only ate didn't stay. Party of 7 (incl 2 children) for a 50yr anniversary meal on a Sunday. 3 were less than 5 minutes late. Restaurant and bar is newly furnished and is very nice, the outside area looks good too. Ordered drinks as soon as we all sat down, drinks came after a short wait. Ordered 3 starters and mains promptly, most ordered beef roast which was £21, we were asked if we wanted sauces and these came out straight away (bit odd as they sat on the table for over an hour). Starters came out about 15 minutes later and were excellent. Mains came out over an hour later, and as they arrived, we were beset with flies. I can understand that this is not something they can easily remedy but we seemed to be the only table suffering likely due to the position out of the air through flow as door and windows were open to reduce heat. The fly's (more than 10) constantly buzzing round and attempting to land on the food was obviously not great and put us all off our meals. A couple ate quickly some battled though and others left the food. One was ill while there and after, We raised the flies with the staff who said there was nothing that could be done, the owner did come over and apologise which was nice and offered a glass or wine to an adult (were driving) or a dessert (we just wanted to leave at this point) and declined. Roasts - kids was large (almost and adults’ portion) Yorkshires had shredded meat in (not a fan + one had the twine from the meat in too) Otherwise, the roast was well presented if not amazing, and a little on the pricy side at £21 per head, the exception was the cauliflower cheese (that was v good) The meals with 2 alcoholic drinks and some soft drinks came to over £180 and when I asked if there was any possibility of a discount we were told no as some of the party being late was the reason the main ways slow getting out and they can't control the flies. I can understand these points but we won't be revisiting. Areas for improvements - Communication, if we had had been made aware of the long wait we would have ordered a side for the kids. Service was a little slow (we often needed to prompted waiting staff who were then attentive) Stop the flies or offer to move outside and don't use the table / area.

Visited with our family of eight for a Sunday lunch and all enjoyed the experience which is surprising considering how fussy some of us are. Each dish had something that was a little be special about it to make it memorable. Great range of beers and wines as well. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. If we are in the area again we would certainly eat there again.

I can't Fault the staff, they were lovely. Unfortunately though we were sat at a table in the middle of the walkway even though the restaurant was empty and remained relatively empty the whole time we were there, My boyfriend and I both had the roast pork Sunday lunch, and im sad to say this was not as nice as I had been told it should be. The pork was very dry,the vegetables were almost raw still, and it seemed like a mish mash of bits they had left over in the kitchen, all in all I wouldn't say it was a very enjoyable meal.I would also say that having the coffee machine in the restaurant whilst customers are eating is not the best idea as it's a very noisy thing and not want people want to hear whilst they are trying to enjoy their food.

Everything on the plate was delicious. Would thoroughly recommend and at a great price.

Visited for Mother’s Day lunch. The renovation of the building is outstanding. The starter and main we had were ok, the dessert was simply delicious. Sadly what impacted the enjoyment of our visit was the lack of options for my mum who is gluten and dairy free. Also my non-alcoholic mojito was accidentally knocked over by a member of staff and I was not offered a replacement, I later realised when I got home I was charged £9 for 2 sips of this drink.

I visited the kings head today 02.12.23 for a birthday celebration for a very dear friend. We were a party of 7. My friend was opening her presents and cards but we were asked several times if we wanted to go to our table. Once at the table we were given the menu and within minutes asked if we were ready to order, we asked for a bit more time and were told the kitchen was closing soon. A few of us ordered from the festive menu which was £30 for 2 courses. The start was good but the turkey main meal was tiny. I've never seen 2 roast potatoes so small. The food was tasty but the portion wasn't worth the money. The restaurant bar area was extremely cold it was -1 outside. The waiter said he didn't want to light the fire as he didn't want to smoke the restaurant out. There wasn't any Christmas decorations and the place lacked atmosphere. The waiting staff weren't very welcoming it felt like they were just going through the motions. When we asked if my friend's birthday could be cut a member of staff gave us plates but a member of our party had to cut the cake themselves. It was really the special birthday lunch experience we'd hoped for

There is a good carpark and fab outside area The welcome was warm and attentive the decor stylish and quirky the coffee superb so we stayed for lunch! For a small village the lunch menu is expensive and a little high brow, more of an evening menu. We were only looking for light bites so had a couple of entrees, we had the Ham hock, Norfolk Dapple Souffle and a side of chips. All of the food was well presented and very tasty although the chips were not very crispy. The vinegar in a spray is a genius idea! We shared a dessert of Lemon meringue cheesecake which was fab! All in all it was a great experience, we look forward to trying dinner a d Sunday roast, thanks Sara for looking after us

Just love the newly reopened Kings Head! A beautifully sympathetic, modern, quirky renovation of an old listed pub building. A wonderfully warm welcome from all the staff, and nothing was too much trouble for this lovely young team, despite the fact that it was a busy Saturday evening and full of diners. The menu was varied and it was good to see local produce being used in the creative and interesting dishes on offer. Our food was served promptly, beautifully presented, piping hot and delicious and extremely well cooked. The home made puddings, especially the custard tart served with rhubarb ice cream, was exceptional, and the taste was divine.Obviously an excellent Chef and Pastry Chef are in the kitchen ! We and our guests thoroughly enjoyed our evening, in fact so much so that we returned for Sunday lunch and we were just as impressed with our roast dinner and the other menu choices on offer. The Kings Head is certainly not a budget place to eat, but if you want decent portions of high quality food, served in a lovely place, with great service, and a warm welcoming atmosphere, then I would highly recommend a visit. Well done to everyone at the Kings Head, job exceptionally well done .We are happy customers, who left with smiles on our faces, and will definitely be back again soon. Thank you !

Our first visit back since pre covid and the renovation. The place is absolutely stunning 🤩 we were obsessed with the roast we use to come for years ago and since it’s reopened and a different chef the food is still outstanding. The food choice was limited, but I think what there was to choose from was a good selection. The only thing I would say is the sticky toffee pudding tasted just like a cake and not worth the £10 price but my main was beautiful. A little pricey but I believe the food was worth it for our anniversary. Customer service was second to none. The courtyard looks beautiful and will be coming back with friends for drinks. Would come back again for food but for special occasions only.

Lovely food, great decor Nicely re-decorated pub Food and wine are expensive, well above average cost and one has to order potatoes and vegetables separately which makes the meal costly - sustainability of this pub therefore will be my concern as most people cannot afford to spend lots of money in the current financial climate. Perhaps something for the owners to consider however please note choice of food and wine great and food is amazing! Thank you

So much improved over the previous version in its last days before closure, but that was always going to be easy. The new staff team were really keen to impress and help, the young lady looking after our table was helpful and friendly. The wines we sampled were fine and the Jubel is a beer I really enjoy but perhaps not a great choice of beers. Claims they wish to be a leading Gastro pub are great but I'm not sure the menu which is quite limited will achieve that. The food was good though and I think decent quality, Im not sure it's that better than some competitors. The revamped building is really pleasant and a bar area separate from the dining area is good. We weren't seated near a doorway and it wasn't particularly warm and we felt the tables were quite closely spaced for our liking. The atmosphere, as the evening got busier, was good. Overall good first impression and I hope for success for this venture, it'll be interesting to see how it develops over the next few months.

This used to be a regular place for us to visit for a nice meal in the local vicinity. We hadn't been in a while (a couple of years) so we were looking forward to a night out there just the two of us. I don't have any real complaints about anything other than the food. The staff were friendly and helpful and the venue itself is welcoming (though it was a bit cold) which hasn't changed. But my meal was nothing short of dreadful. I had the falafel burger with skinny fries (the description on the menu made it sound far more exciting than this) but what I got was a burger that was black and burnt around the outside which dud actually gave it some flavour (although not particularly nice) and a portion of what should be described as ye olde oiled teeth breaking chips. Maybe they call them skinny fries cos no one would actually want to eat then...but they were not what I was expecting. My wife had the muscles...no regrets other than the fact she asked for the skinny fries that the chef forgot to send out with the meal. Regarding the menu, there's not a lot of meat dishes. I don't mind this as I am not a red meat eater, but I cant help but feel they are aiming for cheap ingredients (non meat) to get the biggest margins £12/main. Also we went quite early and they'd run out of most of the ingredients/dishes...We did laugh off how terrible the chips were but in hind sight it is concerning and I hope this place either had an off day or else it needs to improve...quickly!

I have eaten at this pub/restaurant many times over the years and have found the standards to be variable at best.Three of us had lunch there recently and the general service was poor. The menu listed prawn and smoked salmon cocktail which one of our party ordered, only to find no smoked salmon. When we pointed this out to the waiter we were given a “I can only apologise”.For main course two of us chose liver and bacon, which unfortunately was served as liver only, the bacon being omitted!Again our complaint was greeted with another apology! The chef did not feel it necessary to make a personal apology nor was any adjustment made to the bill, reflecting the missing items.I heard a third apology to other diners, so not a good day!I will not go again, nor recommend this place to anyone asking for somewhere to eat in the area.

We went to the King’s Head for lunch yesterday. Two of us ordered fish and chips and the other ordered curry. The food was served promptly and was well presented. The fish and chips were ok but the fish batter wasn’t very crispy. The curry looked amazing but unfortunately when tasted the rice was undercooked, we all tasted the rice and it was hard and chalky in the middle. We informed the bar staff who took it away only to return five minutes later to say the chef had tasted the rice and he considered it to be fine. Whilst that may have been his opinion it wasn’t the opinion of customers. The rice was definitely undercooked. The response from the chef made us feel very uncomfortable so we finished the meals we had and the portion of chips ordered to replace the curry as quickly as we could and left. It was a shame as we had hoped to spend time catching up as we don’t all live locally but instead left as quickly as we could and probably won’t return. Throughout this incident the bar staff were very apologetic and seemed embarrassed by the chef’s response.

We went for a family meal today and definitely won't be going back. The staff were friendly enough but the food left a lot to be desired. The bowl of cold doritos that had been shown a bit of cheese was a disappointing starter. Unfortunately the main meal wasn't any better. The chips seemed to be left over wedges that had been fried, the peas were harder than gravel and the batter on the fish was so greasy I could probably have used it to carry out an oil change on my car, and its left me feeling pretty sick.

Having visited in December 2017 and had a fantastic meal, I’ve booked a table to meet up with friends for a pre-Christmas meal. What a difference a year makes, the car park was nearly empty as was the pub, and whilst the waiters and waitresses were polite, they had no clue as to what was on the menu or any information about the food. We ordered and to be fair what was presented was very poor. Parts of the order were wrong, and the food was not of a high quality despite the price. This used to be a very busy and popular eatery unfortunately the standards have dropped dramatically. We will not be returning while under the current owners or management .

We made two visits to the Kings Head. Both times were great. Good food and very friendly helpful staff. Nice atmosphere inside. Did not feel pressured or rushed.

Went to The Kings Head with some family for a belated birthday meal and had a wonderful young waiter called Lloyd who was very funny, attentive and made sure we were 100% ok! It’s very hard to find good service nowadays and it’s slowly dying out, but this young man gives me hope lol! All I can say is: Great job, lovely person, keep up the good work!

Had a rare afternoon off work and actually intended to visit elsewhere which turned out to be closed. Drove the few extra miles to the Kings Head and so glad we did. Had never been before but everything from the welcome, service, menu and food was absolutely first class. Will definitely be visiting more often.

We arrived early before the kitchen was not open but a very efficient young bar tender made us feel welcome and we received our food within minutes of the time they stated they started serving food. So very impressed. We had the seafood burger but wanted the caramelised onion as an additional topping just to be awkward. Nothing was a problem the service was second to none bringing additional drinks to the table etc. The burger was amazing and probably the best I’ve ever had. There was a bunch of very friendly regulars at the bar and the general atmosphere was warm and inviting. I recommend highly and hope they can hold on to the exceptional young front of house staff working on Tuesday 4th September. Thanks.

So I went here and had the nut roast which was seriously yummy - the nut piece itself was really huge and I couldn't finish it but it was soooooo tasty :) I put a 4 star because I asked if they did soy milk so I could have a cup of tea but they didnt, which was odd because they had the vegan and vegetarian menu. So that doesn't make sense to me. But other than that really nice pub, great ambiance. Love it.

I arrived far too early for a funeral and was suggested I come to the white hart … excellant sugestion thank you Parking outside and very enjoyable. A lovely lady running the restaurant so helpful, I needed a coffee and she produced an excellent flat white. We chatted and I then ordered smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, to by delight and another coffee. Brilliant service and food. It was lovely to see a group of 5 senior gents in for a chat and breakfast, Just really pleasant thank you so much and enjoy Devon next year ……

I feel this Pub is being run by Publicans who have lost their love and energy for the place. Great garden, play equipment tired and not maintained, broken benches just left upturned, rusty screws protruding, behind a bush for anyone to meddle with. Not sure which decade the fryers had their oil changed, they may have stopped this a while back and never restarted due to likely self immolation whilst undertaking this in a Shell Suit.
