I'll start with the positives. Friendly staff. Nice pub. Brilliant breakfast. Comfortable bed. Great location. Negatives. The decor and furnishings in the bedroom and the bathroom are very dated and tired. But to be fair if the owners were to refurbish the hotel, it'd cost millions and bed and breakfast would no longer be under £100 which is very rare nowadays

Having spent the day helping my elderly mother reorganise her home in preparation for some building work we were tired so decided to go out to eat. The Black Swan is quite local so we chose there. However when asking for a table for two she stalled, said something about bookings and would see if there was a table (even though we could see the restaurant was virtually empty!). She then took us to a table hidden from the rest of the restaurant, behind a pillar, near the toilets. We had clearly been judged on our appearance, since we hadnt changed before coming out. The other staff were fine as was the food, but we wont ever go back.I only decided to write this review when I saw that we werent the first to be treated badly.

We loved this pub! Very picturesque exterior with lovely, warm and cosy interior. Staff were welcoming and friendly. There was a lot to choose from on the menu, we had the burger and chips which were delicious. Wide selection of drinks also! I noticed there is a caravan and motorhome club site behind the pub which was useful to tell my parents about. Thank you! We will be back when the weather is warmer to enjoy the beautiful garden.

We decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, as I had come accross the pub via Facebook. When we arrived, we were asked if we wanted a drink first, but we decided to go through to the restaurant. We were given menus, and we decided on the beef rib and the belly pork. When they arrived, we were very pleased with the portion sizes, although we both felt that there needed to be some other vegetables, like carrots and parsnips, and they both needed more jus. The taste however, was fantastic. We would agree that the pricing was a little high, and it did feel a little cold for my partner, the staff were very friendly, and we will definitely be returning.

Visited twice over a weekend as we were staying locally. We liked the quiet atmosphere - which was ideal for our anxious dog - and the location was nice. However, we did think the drinks were expensive. The food was tasty but also quite pricey - £15+ for a main course.

Pub is located in a pretty village, surrounded by Beautiful countryside with lovely footpaths to walk your dogs but be warned this is not a country pub. Unless you want to be insulted, don’t walk into the bar (with tiled floor) in wellies (however clean) for a pint (which we were going to enjoy outside in the winter sunshine) as you’ll be made most unwelcome. Would not recommend or ever return. Unfriendly and unwelcoming .

Nice looking pub from the outside, cozy open fire as you walk in but the restaurant is cold, dated and has no atmosphere. The price of the food is expensive so would’ve expected a cloth on the table or napkins at least. The soup was powdery and very small amount, with the 2 tiniest pieces of bread I’d ever seen. If I wasn’t so cold and hungry I wouldn’t have eaten it. Nearly £18 for a piece of salmon, sprig of broccoli and some slices of potato. Deserts were £8 so became a very expensive night! When we asked for the bill the lady stood with her card machine so we didn’t have a minute to look at it, when I got home I had been charged 2 different prices for the same drink. Disappointing, overpriced and sadly wouldn’t return.

Fish and chips: fish was wet and the batter very greasy. Expensive for what we got. We didn’t have a dessert as all were £6.95 or £7.45 even for 3 scoops of ice cream. Nice pub but even though I was sat next to the radiator I wasn’t hot. Will not be rushing back. Staff were friendly.

Having read some of the reviews I was a little apprehensive, but I review what I find, not other people’s opinions. Our only problem was with other diners, we arrived at the same as a largish party who felt entitled to attempt to monopolise the bar, a friendly waitress spotted us, sorted drinks and bypassed the scrum to show us our table. From here on everything was fine. Our order was taken promptly and arrived in a timely manner. The food was very good (I am sparing with my “excellents”). Portions were good but not huge, which left us room for a delicious pud. Prices are about what one expects. We hope to be back.

Decided to book for our wedding anniversary and wish we hadn't, really disappointing. Positives: friendly staff, nice surroundings, clean. Negatives: food was poor quality, clearly not locally sourced, bought frozen and heated/finished off. Starter; nachos to share, never seen mince like that it was so finely minced it was almost sauce consistency and tasteless. Mains: cod burger _ frozen fish battered and fried, was so full of bones i left half as frightened of choking. You do not expect bones in every mouthful of burger!!!!!! Had to order chips seperately to burger, WHY? My husband ordered beef burger that included chips???? His burger less than average, he has burger whenever we go out and this is the only one he has not eaten. Chips were standard bulk cash and carry, No peas or garnish of any sort. Food tasteless, bland, frozen. We both left quite a lot which we never do but wrapped it up to take home for the dog Of note: large restaurant but only us 2 and another couple that staff decided to sit about 2 feet away. It felt like being out as a foursome they were that close. Of course had the restaurant been full, i absolutely appreciate the need for full use of tables but we left about 7.40 and pub was completely empty, i doubt they had any more bookings. This made the experience even worse as there was no background noise or hussle/bussle, it was very intrusive and so pointless to sit the only other couple, what felt like in our laps, with about another dozen tables set up???? Why was such a large restaurant empty on a Saturday night, we now know why... Food not cheap for quality of ingredients. Top prices for nearly inedible food, shame, won't be going back.

Also they had a ginger cat in the restaurant which was very off putting as the cat was at my table and was expecting me to give it food the cat should not be in the restaurant with food about the cat was even allowed to roam around the bar but was by my table throughout my meal. Shocking service and food. I had the ribeye steak. Chips were exactly the sane you'd get from a kebab shop, steak was tasteless, Diane Sauce literally tasted like just cream and mushrooms had been chucked no - no flavour! Steak with the sauce was about 25 quid -, complete rip off. You'd get a better meal at Wetherspoons for a third of the price. They are cutting corners, using frozen food but charging the price of a good quality pub. My mum had the pasta, which she said was just stodgy and sauce was so thick was hard to eat! Would not go back or recommend to anyone.

Ordered the Prawn salad off the Specials menu, very basic and not many prawns (got 4 tiger prawns and a handful of cocktail prawns), salad wasn't even dressed looked like it was thrown out of a 49p bag from Tesco.... for £14! very over priced, for what I got anything over £6 would of been to much!. Chocolate fudge cake wasn't anything special, didn't appear to be made fresh. When asked what flavors of ice cream they had its was replied bluntly "they are all on the menu" (this is from an older member of female staff, the young lady serving i will add was very polite)... most unhelpful when a member of the table was struggling to see them. Service was painfully slow with only 4 other customers in. Shame as the place itself is a nice setting, and as noted the young girl serving was very polite and professional.

We have been to the Black Swan on two occasions. First we just drifted in for Sunday Lunch which was excellent except for the minor problem of no crackling on the roast pork.Very good value though.Next we came back for Sunday Dinner but that service had closed at 3:00 so we ordered from the main menu which is quite an eclectic choice. Do you fancy a crocodile steak? Yes please but make it snappy. The more traditional choices are what you would expect from a country pub but cooked and served elegantly and being in Norfolk the portions are generous. (If you can eat it all you have been robbed is the typical diners approach)I can particularly recommend the braised rib of beef with horseradish mash. The wine list is short but well chosen at reasonable prices. The service is prompt considering everything is cooked to order - no micro wave pings heard at all.We will be back.

Warm and welcoming with several different rooms to find the atmosphere you want - snug room with fire, pool room, TV lounge, informal dining/drinking room, restaurant and pub garden! Food is good but pricey for the offering - best top for a burger or fie gluten free ask for grilled fish and sautéed potatoes.

After ordering drinks we were seated in the restaurant area and ordered ham, egg and chips from an extensive menu. Thought we couldn't go wrong as the menu stated home cooked ham, it sounded like good simple pub grub! The ham was definitely not home cooked, given away by appearance and taste (lack of!) and the egg? Solid yolk, a grey rubbery white and an over cooked under side, frankly inedible. In summary, the menu description was wrong and the standard of the food was poor, not recommended!

Our family of eight adults arrived for a Saturday evening meal.We gave our meal orders and had quite a wait before the meal was served but this did not matter as it was an extensive menu. When the meals arrived we were surprised at the small portion size.As the prices were quite high we expected more.Saying that we were looked after well by the staff.Only three stars due to portion size.

Entering into the snug bar it is comfortable and has a real fire. Lots of photographs of the old Flixton Hall, now burned down. The staff were polite and helpful. The ambiance was good. A selection of real ales.

Enjoyed a very good Sunday lunch at the end of a walk with friends - freshly cooked veg, Yorkshire pud etc. Staff very efficient, friendly and helpful. Lovely pub - pleasant surroundings. Will definitely come again. Good place to start and finish a beautiful Waveney Valley walk.

Four of us visited on a Saturday lunchtime, four different meals, all served up at same time and lovely. Only criticism is that the salad was so finally chopped, you could not take out what you didn't like.

Visited the pub some weeks back on a Sunday and liked the look of the menu so our party of 3 returned to give it a try.The food was fresh and lovely and the choice of real ales superb. Unlike so many pubs the staff although mostly young were helpful, knowledgeable about the menu and friendly.Although a bit off the 'beaten track' this is a pub with character, charm in a pleasant setting that's well worth seeking out

While visiting parents we decided to have an impromptu Sunday Lunch out. Having tried a couple of known suspects they were fully booked, but the Black Swan had a table for 5 at the time we needed.I guess there was some apprehension thoughts as we hadn't been there before and they had tables available, but gladly they were completely unnecessary as it is a lovely place, with a warm welcome and inviting menu. Having already decided before we went that Roast dinners were what we all fancied we stuck to our guns despite nearly all of us contemplating something different. The roast dinners were a good sized plateful of nice meat, good gravy and well prepared vegetables. All for under a tenner, excellent value too.Nice range of beers and soft drinks, and some of us had room for very lovely desserts. Will definitely be returning some time!

Arrived on a quiet Tuesday evening, drank good ale and enjoyed a well cooked mixed grill. Staff were very friendly. Wouldn't mind transferring the pub to my area.

I feel this Pub is being run by Publicans who have lost their love and energy for the place. Great garden, play equipment tired and not maintained, broken benches just left upturned, rusty screws protruding, behind a bush for anyone to meddle with. Not sure which decade the fryers had their oil changed, they may have stopped this a while back and never restarted due to likely self immolation whilst undertaking this in a Shell Suit.

We had a very pleasant meal even though the service was very slow, staff were polite. Very nice atmosphere even though there was a very loud man in the bar. I asked a man who I assume was the manager that there was no soap in the ladies toilet he said he would deal with it but when I was leaving both soap dispensers were still empty so I had to use the disabled toilet. A mocca was ordered and we were charged for a Hot Chocolate and an Americano which came to £5.50, if we had known it would be this price we would not have ordered it, we queried it and were told we should have looked at the menu, there was no Mocca mentioned so we should have been informed.

I arrived far too early for a funeral and was suggested I come to the white hart … excellant sugestion thank you Parking outside and very enjoyable. A lovely lady running the restaurant so helpful, I needed a coffee and she produced an excellent flat white. We chatted and I then ordered smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, to by delight and another coffee. Brilliant service and food. It was lovely to see a group of 5 senior gents in for a chat and breakfast, Just really pleasant thank you so much and enjoy Devon next year ……
