Well I can not understand anyone who rates this less than 5 out of 5. The staff are incredibly helpful and polite. They are true ambassadors of the Plough and are just excellent. We ordered two courses off their lunchtime set menu and, price wise, it was very reasonable and the food was just superb. We sat and chatted outside and it was just wonderful. Ideal setting and a wonderful meal. First time I have been there but it will not be the last. An absolute gem!

Overpriced, with some items listed on the menu not being available. The waiter, Will, was friendly and attentive but that was the only positive. They had no mint sauce even though lamb was on the menu. The bill was incorrect in their favour and, in my opinion, they were caught out with over charging on the substitute wine. The manager was also rude and it is not a place we would ever recommend.

Although the food and drink were delicious the portions and service left much to be desired. We had to wait sometime for attention and when we did order our drinks we were waiting a long time for them to bring them. Plates were Luke warm which meant our food got cold very quickly. One of our party was dairy intolerant so she had to for go the Yorkshire pudding but it did not mean they should have reduced her portion size also (price wasn’t reduced though). Don’t think we will be returning as we like value for our money - something we did not get today.

We visited as a large family group for a celebration meal. I had pre booked which was a simple process but the pub did take a while to confirm. We were all seated and someone came to take the drinks order first . Bottles of wine from £25 which wasn’t too bad. We then went on to order mains and as a pescatarian , I did struggle to find something healthy and that I could eat. I ordered the salmon from the specials menu which was very tasty but very small . Considering the size of group we were, the meal was served fairly quickly although 2 of our meals were incorrect but we didn’t realise until the bill came . We did query when the server said duo of beef but we had ordered sirloin beef roasts. As the menu had been taken away we assumed this is what it was called. The meat was fatty and inedible and definitely not worth £2 extra than the sirloin beef. So make sure the server repeats the order exactly and not just beef. Some of the vegetables were just warm rather than hot but generally it was nice food. Worth the money? Probably not. Would I go back? Probably not. Amazing summer venue with the beer garden outside, but possibly the last time we will visit.

We took our grown-up daughter here for her birthday lunch, but after 20 minutes had to call a passing waiter to take our order. Soup was only warm. Fishcakes with poached egg on wilted spinach came with 2 fishcakes on a few raw leaves, a tiny amount of sauce, but no egg or chips. The avocado salad came with cucumber instead of avocado (they had run out), tasting mainly of onion, and the grilled chicken breast was dry. The main taste was onion. We were not told of this beforehand, so we couldn't change the order. We opted out of a dessert, and asked to see the manager, but s/he was off duty, so we had to make do with the waiter, who deducted drinks and starter from the bill, but this meant we paid a la carte price for mains, not fixed price. Unsurprisingly there was not the usual number of customers, so they had obviously cut staff numbers and their food ordering. They seem to be on a downward spiral - most disappointing.

We love visiting The Plough every now and then. Perfect place to grab a pint and watch the rowers along the river during the day. Came here with family for dinner and the food and service was without fault. They originally sat us on a table directly underneath a very bright spotlight but staff were very understanding when we asked to move somewhere more ambient. Will continue to come to The Plough well into the summer months!

We went here for a business lunch so had reserved a table and pre-ordered food. It was a lovely day and the setting is indeed gorgeous. Our food was, in general, okay but alas the whole event was let down by very poor service. There seemed to be no one waiter responsible for our table (and the area we were sat in), and we were served by about 5 different people so this probably contributed to the lack of consistency in service. The waiters were young and inexperienced, they need training! The first waiter came to take a drink order, this arrived fairly quickly but two of the drinks were wrong so had to be done again. When the food came the bread we ordered was quite hard and we struggled to eat it. A colleague of mine went to see the manager and asked that we would like to have those removed from the bill please, is that okay, to which he didn't reply we're very sorry about that and of course we won't charge you, but rather "I guess it will have to be won't it", unbelievable attitude!! A young waiter brought the first dish out and didn't even know what it was, that is ridiculous. Once we finished the mains we sat there for ages, waiters passed our table many times but no-one thought to collect our plates, surely a waiter should never go back to the kitchen empty handed? We had to ask for our desserts, then again, and eventually one of the three orders arrived. We asked for the other two, which were small desserts served with coffee. Eventually they came but with no coffee. I was just about to go and ask for the coffees again when they arrived, by which time of course the desserts were already eaten. We asked for the bill and yet another waiter came out with a dessert, they were very confused when we said that we'd finished, and that the one she had was a duplicate - clearly the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing! We had heard the place could not cope when busy (too disorganised) but we thought we would give it a chance, suffice to say none of the 9 of us or our families will go back for food again. It's a shame because they have a real opportunity here to make this a great place to go.

Our hopes to enjoy Sunday roast at the Plough were met with terrible disappointments. After 30-minutes waiting in a queue to order, we were told it would take another hour at least to get our food. What is the management thinking? The Plough location is perfect - next to Cam river with plenty of space to accommodate for a variety of guests, such as families, elderly couples, it has disabled access. So no wonder it is a popular stop. However, the management does not seem to be able to appreciate the visitors and keeps testing their patience. So if you decide to visit the place, reserve at least 4 hours for the trip and get ready to stay thirsty and hungry most of the time. Unfortunately, this was not the first occasion when we decided to leave even after queueing for 20 mins - hence the review, or rather a warning.

Had a lovely late lunch today for family birthdays. 11 of us were sat quickly and food was served at a normal pace. Food was good, we all had starters and mains. Calamari, battered halloumi, wagu burger and pizza all deserve a special mention. Staff were friendly and we got a bottle of prossecco on the house. I would imagine that it probably can get very busy on a sunny day because the location is fabulous. My tips are sign up to their page and get vouchers for free drinks (we got 3 cocktails) and maybe expect a leisurely lunch then that way if you wait you won't be disappointed. I'm so surprised at all the bad reviews. I felt worried about going today but it was lovely.

My family and I visited for Christmas Day; there were 13 of us booked in for a mid afternoon reservation. Upon being seated (finally, after an hour later after our booked slot), there were not enough seats for us and two of our guests were sat near the bar whilst we were rectifying this- the staff attempted to bring our food out. We were then moved to another table where we were packed in like sardines- highly uncomfortable and stressful and waited half an hour for only 3 out of 13 starters to come out with a starving toddler crying due to hunger! We didn't get the rest of our starters but got our mains which were actually delicious, a long with our desserts! This venue clearly needs to sort their management and organisation skills out, because it was diabolical and they booked FAR too many people in which created a highly uncomfortable and stressful environment which is not what you want on Christmas Day. Concentrate on quality and not how many tables you can pack in on one day!! Far too many tables packed on top of each other. The saving grace was 'Tom' who did everything he could to save the day and was one of the only ones who could make a positive change. If he is not the manager, he should be. 90% of the staff are miserable, be grateful you have a job!

The Plough in Fen Ditton has the most gorgeous location - nothing can seriously claim to beat it around Cambridge. However, in an half-empty restaurant (pub) we had to wait an enormous amount of time only to be met by the most disinterested waiter. But it was only when the food arrived that we became fully aware that the Plough is not a place we are going to re-visit. the food was so dry, bland and unappealing that any sandwich from the local supermarket would be a much better choice.Luckily, there are plenty of good places in and around Cambridge. So next time we will just go to one of these.

We visited to see if we could take our friends there as we had not been for a long time. We should have looked at trip advisor before we went.On entering the atmosphere is great it was a warm day so we decided to site just outside the open doors of the restaurant on the wooden patio. We ordered 2 coffees that arrived in a paper cup, it was just warm and the cup was half full. We asked for a cup but were declined as we were outside??? so warning signs already. we chose a mediterranean mezza (£12,50) to share as the menu was not really to our liking. This came and although tasty was just about enough for one. We had to ask for 2 plates. Its a real shame as the location is great.
