Poorly managed and average food. At the fourth time of trying, actually managed to get a table for the following night. Ordered promptly on an early Saturday evening (6pm). The menu is basic anglicised Thai food, nothing you won’t find in any other place. The small starter showed up after about 5 mins but was tiny for the price (£8 for 6 bits of tempura veg) and mediocre quality with thick and soggy batter. What followed this was a 50 min wait with nothing happening. I asked the person who looked like the manager who ran off to check. He came back and said the food would be another 20 mins. Completely unacceptable to wait 1h10mins for a main course to arrive after a starter. Apparently we “ordered after a large group of 26 and everything is cooked fresh”. Firstly, if there’s a large group then you should be warning smaller tables to get their orders in and going to them first, especially if those small tables have young children. Secondly, the excuse of everything is cooked fresh is just plain confusing. It’s a restaurant, surely most dishes there are cooked fresh?!? We cut our losses and just left to go home and get our 4 year old some dinner before bed. At least the manager was somewhat apologetic, but that doesn’t make up for basic management errors. If you can’t fulfil orders in a reasonable time then don’t take bookings. Despite it being just around the corner we wont be going back.

WARNING - not one to leave reviews but The Navigator has moved here and hasn’t updated its website for prices. Mixed Platter 2/4/6 listed as £9.00 on the website so you’d imagine that was what the prices started at. Just paid £36 for a mixed platter for 4! £36 for STARTERS. INSANITY. Not even including the rest of our order. Showed an updated menu for The Rose to be assured that I was wrong. Absolutely ridiculous. UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE. At least the food was very nice but feel holy fleeced.

Good local food option, a little higher on the price than we’d expect, particularly given the quality, wasn’t anything amazing, perfectly average. Food was okay, it wasn’t as good as we hoped given all of the hype. Staff were friendly enough and found us a table. Was a cosy venue, really nice old pub. Not in a rush to return.

Great to have the 'old' Navigator from Little Shelford in Stapleford now. It has been so sad to see the old 'Rose" open and shut so many times of late - the new occcupiers have left it's interior very much as 'is' - but the food id just as good as it always has been. The service was a little slow and disorganised ... but the young ladies serving us had only been there for a few days so were still learning the ropes - I'm sure they'll soon be up to speed ... and we'll beback later this month!

A close friend who had lost her Mother recently invited us out for a meal at the Rose. We arrived just before 8pm for our 8-o-clock booking, only to find they hadn’t allocated a table for us. They quickly arranged a table for the three of us, and took our order for a round of drinks. Shortly after, we ordered a couple of Starters (which were brought to the table in reasonably good time), and our main meals. Sometime after, we ordered more drinks and continued to wait for our meals to be served. We watched others (who had come in after us) being served their meals while we were left sitting chatting and wondering what was going on in the kitchen. Sometime later one of our group went to the Bar and asked what had happened to our meals. It turned out that they had somehow forgotten about them! As it was now around 9.30pm we said that we would not wait even longer while the kitchen Staff got their act together. So we paid for the drinks, but were gifted the two Starters [wow, big deal, eh!] and we left, having been told by the guy in charge how sorry he was. Big deal, being sorry didn’t prevent our friend from being really upset for not getting us the meal she had hoped to!

The team from The Navigator at Shelford have now moved to The Rose at Stapleford & is now a Thai restaurant & bar. We went last night as a group of eight for dinner. The atmosphere is lovely and the new decor suits the building. The food was absolutely amazing, tasty, well presented and full of flavour. The only thing that slightly marred the experience was the slowness of the restaurant staff. We had been sat at our table for half an hour with no offer of a drink order so we had to ask someone to take our order. Sadly the same issue occurred with ordering our food, again we had been at the table an hour with nobody coming to us so ended up going to the bar to ask if someone could take our order. Glasses were not cleared from the table until we asked someone to remove them. It was a fairly busy evening which sadly was let down by the service. There were several times during the evening that none of the staff were in the restaurant!! A little bit mire training perhaps?? However we all said we would return as the food was excellent and reasonably priced.

I wanted to try the Rose out again as I knew it had changed hands. I went twice in one week but sadly the only time I will remember will be the second time! Me and a group of friends went for dinner on. Tuesday night, we were welcomed and felt valued. The food was ok, reasonable choice, basic pub food. The guy runners it has lots of ideas. Sadly if the second visit is anything to go on they will fail. I went back for a drink with my Partner, I wanted him to see it had potential. We were greeted with reluctance. The girl behind the bar was complaining she was going to close at 9pm. She was reluctant to get ice for my drink and said loudly she had to go downstairs to get it. We felt like we were a problem and unwanted. Quickly after getting a drink, with ice she shut the bar and we were made to feel unwelcome. This was 9pm. Sadly I don’t feel I want to go back now.

Got there to find kitchen currently closing at 5pm but, having been unable to contact us due to our phone being out of signal, the acting manager (who I believe may have had to step up at short notice) kept the chef on for us. So looking forward to a Sunday lunch, but alas it was terrible, chicken breast looked like a frozen fillet from Aldi, wet veg probably from frozen, roast potatoes undercooked, and the gravy….well it was brown water. So disappointed. The chap serving was good and handled very well. Sunday roasts are so easy to do and would be embarrassed by letting that go out for service, do these chefs not try their own food? Sadly won’t be returning.

Absolutely dire!!! Girl behind the bar very helpful and apologetic but bar and restaurant area very cold. Most of the menu was 'off', no steak, burgers or sausages, no hummus and crisps (really! could have popped to the shop up the road). My husband and friend chose chicken and mushroom pie which when it came was still cold in the middle (so heated from frozen), taken back to the kitchen to reheat. When it came back veg etc very overcooked). I chose sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was also cold in the middle despite very hot custard. Such a shame. This used to be a great place. We went for a Friday lunch, with no booking. The restaurant appeared busy, and we were told that the chef was "off" so there would be a delay. We gave it a miss, and made a booking for a couple of weeks time. Our party of four arrived on time, well before the restaurant got busy, and placed our order. Pies were sold out, so I ordered sausages - fair enough. Also two burgers (one with salad not chips, and one fish & chips). Seemed simple enough. Almost an hour passed, and no food arrived. We asked politely how long it would be. "Nearly ready" we were told. A few minutes later we were informed that 3 meals were indeed ready, but they just realised that they had no fish for the fourth meal. So we ordered a replacement burger, and asked that they they bring out the three meals that were ready, as we were all quite hungry. Nothing appeared for a while, and eventually four meals arrived - but scampi instead of the additional burger we requested. All burgers were with chips, none had salad as requested. We complained bitterly, and asked to discuss with the manager. - who was not available. We were told he was upstairs & does not start his shift till 5pm. We said that we did not want to pay the full price for the food due to the long wait & two incorrect meals. The waitress (who was not having a great day) brought our bill, literally threw it on the table, and observed loudly that we were indeed eating the food. One table of 4 diners near us got so fed with their long wait and the disappointing food, simply got up & left very angry, and without paying anything at all. The duty manager finally appeared, explaining that he was doing the cooking, as the chef was "off". We offered to pay for our drinks & 50% of the food bill. He kindly offered to not charge for the food at all. Overall, not the best experience. But the problems were agreed and eventually accepted by the staff. It will be a while before we return. It's a pity, because this is a great venue, in a good location, and the outside areas have been improved hugely during covid. It seems it is being let let down by lack of experienced staff.

We visited for a family meal in memory of my late dad's birthday as the Rose had always been one of my mum's favourite restaurants in the past. I had booked in advance so expected a table in the restaurant. We arrived to find we were seated in the bar although the restaurant was almost empty. There was no table service and no wine list but this could all be accepted. However as we began to order our starters, we were advised that several options we wanted were unavailable. We were advised that the nachos were available so went for this option. On ordering our mains, again 2 of the 4 meals ordered were unavailable so we ordered our second / third choice. When the nachos came out they were stuck so hard to the bowl that we couldn't even wedge them out using a fork. I explained to the General Manager who grabbed the bowl and walked off, no apology at all. Another bowl of nachos were brought out which were stone cold, the cheese wasn't even vaguely melted. Again we explained to the manager who asked if we wanted to cancel our mains. In hindsight we should have given up then but wanted to give the mains an opportunity to improve what was becoming an awful experience. My sisters third choice main course of sausage and mash came out and was again stone cold. At this point we could take no more, my mum was extremely upset on what should have been a celebration of my dad. She explained the situation to the Assistant Manager who responded with 'don't try to guilt trip me'. I told him this was not acceptable and we would be leaving immediately. He asked for payment of our food and drink which I was shocked by considering it had been inedible. I asked to speak to his Manager but he said she was in the kitchen and wouldn't come out. He finally went to ask her to speak with us as we were extremely upset, she immediately demanded that we pay the bill. I explained that we weren't willing to do so after such an upsetting and disappointing experience and that we would be leaving. As we walked out she was shouting at us across the car park. Overall this was disappointing service and unacceptable behaviour towards customers.

We've visited The Rose twice, once under the old management which wasn't great, as unfortunately it took 3hrs to get our meals. We were excited to go again under the new management, so we went again today. And it was even worse, they ran out of roasts by 2pm! No apology, just a shrug and the staff behind the bar complaining about customers complaining (with awful language despite a 6 year old standing next to me). The table behind got their roasts and said it was awful, so maybe we got lucky. If enough people complain then you're doing something wrong. The new management need to address these problems quickly, or they'll go the same way as the previous management. They'll have to do it without me though, as we'll not be going back. 2 stars as the beer was pretty good. Maybe just visit for a drink and avoid the food?

Whilst the food was in good proportions it was not hot, it appears our order had been forgotten/mislaid. The staff need to be more alert to customers and to check that everything is OK. It appears that the place was understaffed for the amount of customers they were taking on. We noted that some customers who arrived later than us were getting served quicker. What a beautiful pub this is. Looks great from the outside but once inside things just get better. Open the door to be welcomed by the heat of a log fire, so warm and inviting. Went to the bar and was served by a lovely...

Just come back from a Sunday roast with some mates. One of the best i've had in ages. Loads of good quality meat and plenty of the rest too.

The Rose has the best staff and food you could wish to find in south cambs. The staff are exceptionally welcoming, kind and really bring the place to life. The atmosphere of the pub is authentic with a great range of ale and beers on...

Four of us went to The Rose for supper after a game of golf, slightly by default as not one not two but three places failed us. So full marks to The Rose for serving us on a Monday! We ate simple fare by choice...

Really enjoyed our early evening meal at The Rose yesterday. Had a great welcome and chat with the Manager. He gave advice on menu. Excellent NZ Sav wine. Lovely friendly lady server. Would highly recommend.

Environment ok but personally would prefer a bit more light. Staff friendly . Whitebait was fine but my Chicken and Mushroom pie did not look home cooked was burnt on the top. Lots of mashed potato, very little greens (overcooked) and a small portion of...

Had a lovely hot meal at lunchtime, we decided that their fish and chips are the best in Cambridgeshire. The Rose was quite busy which is good to see, so much so that it is best to book a table otherwise you may be disappointed. They now have a takeaway menu so if we fancy fish and chips or various other dishes we can eat at home instead.

Very disappointed. Said that they only had Ghost Ship and when I ordered it they then said that they had run out. I had to have a bottled beer. My wife ordered a whisky and coke and it tasted strange when we got the bill it was marked as a Jack Daniels, they should kn the difference! The printed menu said 'pie of the day' so we asked what it was and we were told that they have 2 steak and peppercorn, 2 steak and kidney an 1 chicken and leek left (the kitchen had just opened for evening service). I ordered a steak and kidney and when it came it was a pudding not a pie. It also said creamed cabbage but it was heavy with garlic. When the plates were cleared we were asked if all was OK and I said that the pie was not a pie but a pudding and was told the the waitress made a mistake and they were all puddings but the printed menu said 'pie'. It seems that they are running on bare minimum and charging gastro pub prices.

Popped in for a quick drink one early evening and ended up having a great meal. The steak I had was cooked perfectly and so was my husband’s fish. The staff were so friendly it was a really good experience.
