Artichoke on the Green in Three Rivers

I met a business contact today for lunch. The menu is extensive with a wide range of beers available. My colleague had a burger, it was huge and it cooked to perfection. I had s as crayfish and avocado sandwich with salad, which was delicious. We both had a dessert. I had an apple crumble which was delicious. Lots of families there, lovely covered area at the back of the pub with a very friendly vibe. I would definitely revisit and Jo hesitation in recommending…

The menu had an excellent choice and our family chose different meals and were all delighted. My husband loved his mussels, my grandson enjoyed his seabass and I appreciated the hoisin duck!

Hi, we went there for dinner with friends and family. The service was excellent, the manager assisted one of our friends to the table, the food was excellent, the place was clean and the atmosphere was great. It’s a little pricey but it’s very relaxed and pleasant.

Sunday Roast in a very busy restaurant/pub, good staff , comfortable and well looked after, food average , unfortunately my vegetables were swimming in a very oily gravy and friends roast beef requested medium rare , but comes as is .Did not make a fuss all were very busy and as busy may have waited a while for replacements. Enjoyed the company and venue but certainly would beware when next ordering a meal here

Great service in a warm and comfortable environment. Extensive menu with a great range of options and prices. All our choices were yummy!

Mediocre at best. The wine we ordered wasn’t cold enough. One of the starters ordered was the Prawn ‘Skewers’. What they fail to mention is that it is actually not ‘Skewers’, it’s only one ‘Skewer’ with 3 small prawns. Scampi was tasteless, prawns (shells on) microwaved to such an extent that they couldn’t be handled for 10 minutes. Back door constantly being opened due to a private function out back, so icy draughts the whole evening. Tables sticky, ladies toilets dirty. Very disappointing.

Despite being very busy the service was attentive and the staff unflustered. The food was excellent and served within very acceptable time, not rushed and not delayed. 10/10

Really disappointed with the management at The Artichoke. We went for lunch a couple of weeks ago and only had 1 course, we were charged for 2. I checked our bill when I got home and the following day rang the pub. I was asked to put my query in writing, I did this twice and also rang/left a message. Nobody has responded to me regarding my refund. Come on The Artichoke this is not great service.

I’m actually really amazed by how rude the staff were! Our waitress didn’t have a great manner from the start. The food was okay to be fair but not amazing. Very average. When we got the bill we were charged for the two course Christmas menu (we had a main and pudding) and on top of that two extra desserts had been added. When we queried it (very calmly and nicely) we were told that two of the desserts ordered were not part of the Christmas menu. We asked why we were not told that at the time of ordering. We expected them to take off the deserts and charge us for three Christmas menus without a problem. The manager came over and was very defensive and rude. There was basically no price difference so this should not have been an issue at all. We said the menu should have been clearer and her answer was ‘no one has ever complained about this before’. Her abrupt and cold manner was very unnecessary. The waitress was rude and unfriendly when we paid. When we left none of the staff said goodbye or smiled as we walked past. It left a really nasty feeling from what should’ve been a lovely Christmas celebration. I really have not experienced customer service like it for a very long time. And we are really not usually the sort of people to get into a confrontation! Very unnecessary and it’s totally put me off going there again.

My friend and I first visited a month ago after a dog walk. We have a lovely meal so decided to return for lunch yesterday. Food super, staff delightful, pub and surroundings beautiful!!

Was part of a birthday celebration and chose from the Christmas two course menu. The apricot and chicken terrine starter was very good. I then had the roast beef which was tender and plentiful with great roast potatoes, ample veg and huge yorkshire The atmosphere was great and serving staff very friendly and efficient.

Went here with friends, 4 people in total. All of the meals were excellent, the staff were polite and the service was quick even though it was a very busy time. Would recommend it without hesitation.

Nothing beats a nice cooked breakfast on an Autumn Sunday morning! The breakfast at The Artichoke is absolutely delicious. Locally sourced produce, and everything was full of flavour! Lovely homely decor in the dining room, and a great atmosphere. I’ve visited a few times before, and it’s just as good each time - I wouldn’t go anywhere else for a cooked breakfast now! Needless to say, we will be retuning!

Excellent food, great ambience and fab service. We were 2 couples out for a meal. One person was vegan. There was a good choice of vegan dishes - the vegan burger and cauliflower starter were very tasty. I had the Moroccan chicken which was delicious with a very generous portion size. The kedgeree was also delicious. Highly recommend for a reasonably priced, excellent meal in a lovely pub.

Disappointing from start to finish. I did not want to cosy up with 2 men drinking beer on a long seat in the warm, oldie area I'd asked for while I ate my meal, almost knocking elbows, so they sat us out in the cold bleak area, right next to the door constantly opening and closing with wind and rain giving us shivers. No atmosphere there at all .. very stark and unwelcoming. Then we were given menus .. where was the pork ribeye I was looking forward to? It has gone! Menu changed but only on inhouse menu. Online menu continues to advertise it. "Sorry" the waitress said," the menu changed 2 or 3 weeks ago". Wasn't her fault. So, not fancying anything else on the menu I opted for ham egg & chips. Yes, I thought, simple, cant go wrong! But it did. Meal came with fat chips, not my fav but they are ok .,, these were not ok. The hardest, dryest chips I ever had, the ham had been heated within an inch of its table life and the peas were barely warm. Waitress came and asked if everything was ok .. I had a mouthful of runny egg yolk so my partner answered "oh yes thanks, lovely" .. I left most of the meal. Dessert. terribly over-priced as is all their food, including the frozen fat chips ... So we plumped for 2 scoops of icecream.. 1 choc, 1 vanilla for me. Vanilla had almost melted to a sauce when it arrived but the chocolate however, was very very hard, like it had just been served..in fact, just how id expected the vanilla to be. I didn't complain as my partner gets embarrassed and would rather suffer than draw attention. I wont go there again. If they can't even get chips right then what is the point!

The service has plummeted, recently. It has always been quite slow, but now the few staff in evidence completely ignore you. The food is as good as ever, but the service completely ruins it. Also, when you finally manage to get someone's attention, they are, almost without exception, surly and rude - it's like they believe that they're doing you a favour, and are not very keen on doing it. What a shame, how the mighty have fallen.

Seems there is a new management We used to be regulars. No longer I think. Useless. Unfriendly people We turned up for drinks 12 people but as we left a voicemail for booking they didnt confirm the booking. Anyway we found a table the garden but they insisted we not share tables or standing by the tables. Never have i had such a lousy experience. The first time we attended The Artichoke, we were pleased with the aesthetic of the place, a lovely establishment for a lovely day. The food was nice and the price was ok. My wife suffers from a gluten intolerance and nut allergy; two things not too uncommon these days. The staff were accommodating, the chef working to ensure gluten-free versions of dishes could be made and the menu accurate with the marking up of numerous gluten free dishes. The second time we went, it felt like a whole different experience. The staff, even after speaking with the chef/manager could not/would not appease or work with us to accommodate for the gluten free intolerance. We were told that the supplier of the food has changed, and it appears the new supplier is awful with gluten free information - why the company decided to switch to this new supplier without first finding out their poor ability to accommodate for intolerances I don't know. The end result was, out of the entire menu, my wife could choose between 2 main dishes. The difference in experiences was night and day. Even some of the items on the menu that was marked up as being gluten free, were in fact not gluten free, so they might have not even been there. Really, its hugely disappointing to have to leave this review, but I can only recommend you stay away from this establishment if you or a loved one has a gluten intolerance.

What a confusing mess ? Watermelon in an Eton mess ?? Doesn’t work tasted vile ? Just bizzare ? Can’t pan fry king prawns either sent them back twice ! Second serving where same helpings but had been microwaved so I could of bounced them across the green . Onion bahagee in a chicken katsu curry burger ?? Bloody awful stodgy mess . Shame as chicken was pretty decent . I came away feeling like my pallet had been violated . Great location , staff are super super friendly . Shame the chef cant cook prawns and don’t mess with the the mess ? It’s raspberries and strawberries for a reason . Hopefully the sandwich menu is better ?

Booked a table but we finished our walk super early so got there an hour early! They were very happy to accomodate us in the garden (live music playing in the background was lovely). We ordered outside and they were able to find us a table inside for our lunch...which was the best roast I've had for years (sorry mum!) We had the chicken, lamb and beef and all were happy (but too full for pudding so will have to return and try and pace ourselves!)

Went to The Artichoke for a Sunday pub lunch today. What a great experience! Phoned in advance to book table and seek advance information about parking etc. Extremely helpful response from Melanie on the phone who suggested I ask for her when I arrived, which I did. She was friendly and helpful when we got there and showed us to our table. I had the roast beef and my wife had chicken ceasar, both of which were delicious. I thought the beef meal was one of the best I have ever had, hot, well cooked and lovely, tasty proper beef. We will definitely be back again. Well done!

First of all, I’m very impressed at the precautions taken at the artichoke in terms of the covid rules. It’s done very well and the staff are very good at enforcing the rules. They are really friendly and always make you feel welcome. The food is lovely. My friends and I always order food here and we’re never disappointed. It’s great that the Artichoke has outside cover now as it’s very busy on the weekends and not always easy to get seating indoors. My friends and I like to sit outdoors but the only thing is that it’s way too cold in the winter months out there! Some heaters round the front and more out the back would be greatly appreciated. It would certainly make a lot of people go more often as it’s something I hear from a lot of people locally so it’s something to think about investing in. Other than that, amazing service and such a cosy pub.

Hi, we went there twice in a three week period, on one occasion we sat inside, on the other we were outside. The place was clean, the food was excellent, the staff were good. Would we return, of course.With regard to covid, the staff were not wearing face coverings inside.

Went there for a “change” as haven’t been for a while. From the beginning I sensed this wasn’t going to be a good experience. Appreciate we are in crazy Covid times but on arrival we were sternly advised to “use the hand sanitiser at the door”. Then on showing us to the table the same waitress reeled off in robotic fashion how everything would work “drinks will come on a tray which you will have to take off; if you leave the building you to come back the other way” and lots more. There were no smiles from the same waitress on taking our drinks or food order. One of us ordered the lamb - on ordering the waitress did not ask how we liked it cooked - it arrived extremely raw. We raised with another waitress who appeared more senior - we got a sensible response and us requesting that the guest should not be charged for her dessert - which she agreed to. Then came back the other unfriendly waitress with our dessert order and bill. At no time were we asked whether w enjoyed any of our meal. Overall the experience was very poor. Our waitress appeared quite young and perhaps she has lots going on in her personal life which affected her mood - but that’s not professional and management should surely recognise this and make changes. Definitely not worth going back

Seven of us enjoyed a lovely lunch under the canopy post-walk (6m circular to Rickmansworth). Covid measures were sensible and well put across. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which were also most ample and, especially with a continued 25% subsidy by the pub, good value. Service was friendly and efficient and we didn't have to wait too long. Special shout out for the very tasty kedgeree (minor quibble - maybe a bit more fish) and the extra horseradish provided upon request with my tasty mackerel paté starter.No way could I have also managed dessert! The ale was good too.One thought, if the weather is promising, better to sit outside at the front, where there is a view of the Green.

My partner and I recently moved to the area and decided to visit this lovely pub as it has gorgeous views. We booked a table for 4 and managed to sit outside in the front garden, the staff couldn’t of been lovelier, they were friendly, welcoming and personable. I can’t imagine how hard it is to work in a hospitality environment during COVID-19 but they were fab. They were very helpful and clear on their guidelines. The table service was very efficient, we had some lovely cocktails and loads of chips (so chic!) which were delicious! Really looking forward to visiting again for a Sunday lunch and would recommend for friends and family lunches etc or if you just want a lovely quiet drink!

Had a lovely evening with friends. They have gone to a lot of trouble with their social distancing arrangements & all works very well. The food was delicious and fantastic value for money, especially with eat out to help out.Marked down as it’s chilly outside later (could do with some heaters) and a large group of young people approx 10 of them arrived later & were hugging each other & no social distancing. They were right next to us & maybe staff were too busy cleaning & tidying up but nobody stopped them and made us feel uncomfortable. Went inside for final drink &staff were very accommodating.
