This is an excellent venue for a good valued lunch. Service was excellent and food was lovely. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely worst pizza I've ever had. So much cheese on the margarita that I couldn't taste anything else. The Athens pizza had so many toppings it was like someone had a bet that they could fit every olive that ever existed, on it. Complete slop. Pizzas came out within 5 minutes of being ordered. less toppings and a few more minutes in the oven and it would be much better. Don't think the Lines had been cleaned in weeks from the taste of the beer. Poured it away. This pub looks lovely from the outside. In the perfect area with a nice garden but the quality is a massive let down.

Fathers day with the family we had a very nice meal, considering they were busy the service was good and friendly too

Here with daughter and grandchild, £50 for lunch that had to be sent back, once because the steak was not grilled (a very tiny steak) £19.99 and Pasta Ravioli which was cold and not very tasty! Pleasant staff but obviously no chef on site that could cook. Very disappointed indeed, very very poor value for money, even the coke had to go back because it was just coloured fizz with no syrup in it, yes, poor.

Friendly pub in a lovely setting. Poor quality and poorly presented food though so disappointed. Highly over priced also: 13 pounds for three sausages and mash with bit of green veg thrown in. Sorry but that’s a rip off. ! What amounts to a micro wave sausage meal.

Lovely atmosphere, owner and a very friendly pub dog. You can't dislike a local pub dog. The dog is a happy Chappy and you can feed him.

We sampled the seniors menu, and it represented very good value for money. Two courses are £6.99, three courses £7.99. I assume this is only available at lunchtime. All of us had prawn cocktail, and then one had lasagne, one scampi and one ham, egg and chips. There was more than enough and none of us could manage the pudding. My main complaint was that it was a bit cold in the pub and we had to keep our coats on. The server was very pleasant.

Have just had Sunday lunch which was excellent. Portion size was excellent. Well presented and very tasty. Staff very friendly.

Visited for lunch on a busy Saturday. We were advised it was bit of a wait for food which we didn’t mind at all. However when the food arrived it was so disappointing. The Mac and cheese balls were just tasteless stodge. The pizza was flavourless and disappointing. The food is clearly just bought in frozen so it’s not really worth what you pay for it. Such a shame as the location of the pub has great potential. The bar staff were really friendly though.

Visited with friends on a Friday evening for drinks & dinner. Very friendly, welcoming staff and atmosphere. Have visited previously for a quick work lunch and was equally as nice. No problem to change our outdoor table booking to an indoor one. Great bar & table service from staff, lovely solid pub food (we ordered burgers and pie & mash). Good parking and spacious & inviting garden area with lots of seating. Nice bar and seating areas with separate dining. Lovely pub, would recommend & will return.

Worse pizza I’ve ever eaten! Ribs were ok but not delicious… wouldn’t recommend…. One of the waitresses was friendly but the other one wasn’t…

Waited 40 minutes for either cremated, or undercooked food. Only offered a partial refund, originally only offered half. Would never go again, unless we want to get ill. Other people in the restaurant were getting refunds too, not a good sign.

We visited The Royal Oak whilst in the local area for a social event and were very impressed, with both the unfussy, friendly bar service, the perfectly cooked roast dinner and tempting puddings and the choice and quality of the drinks. A great stop-off if you are nearby and one we will return to. Recommended!

We were one of 2 large bookings on Sunday evening that were served cold and burnt food, which we had to wait over an hour for. Both my party and the other large party had major complaints with the meals or lack of meals being served. It was shocking that the staff on duty were left with no proper management support, as there was clearly a lack of experienced staff able to cope with large parties and extensive menu.

We got burgers and the buns were soggy. The chips were not hand cut as stated in the menu. The service staff were unpleasant and had minimal enthusiasm. The best I could say is that the food was cooked and hot. Would not recommend

Despite covid restrictions the staff were very helpful and accomodating.The beer was fresh and enjoyable and the fish and chips with fresh mashed peas was a real treat.The waitress was friendly and chatty but not intrusive.The bill was very reasonable for three at just over £20 per head.The pub has been completely made over with a very pleasant atmosphere. We shall visit again and recommend.

Two of us ate here Friday evening, ordered classic burger and a chicken burger, appearance of food when arrived was poor looked like it had been put together by an amateur. Chicken was over cooked and very dry, burger was the same. I don’t think anyone else was eating and I can see why.Get a proper chef who cares about what he is serving, waste of money. Both of us said we wouldn’t bother eating here again. Better pubs nearby serving much better food.Bar staff didn’t bother asking how the food was, just took plates and walked off.

To be honest we didn’t expect this much from the food of a standard pub, as we just wanted a bite to eat out in the sun, but were pleasantly surprised. The wood fired pizzas were a pretty big portion, tasted great with a proper crispy base, and arrived lightning fast - what more can you ask for!

Me and a friend came to watch the singer on Saturday. Pub has been taken over by new management (again). Came into the pub about 8pm, bought a drink and went into the restaurant where the singer was setting up. The restaurant was empty - someone came over and we were rudely told the manager says we can’t sit in the restaurant unless we are eating. We said well we came to watch the singer, is she going to sing? To which the reply was “don’t know but you can’t sit here” I’d understand if the restaurant was busy and we were going to be stopping them making money on a table of food but the restaurant was empty! Why have the singer in the restaurant if you can’t watch her? We probably would have eaten later but didn’t want to eat right then, we wanted to have a few drinks first. We finished our drinks and went to the Compasses where they actually appreciated our custom!

I have been to this Pub a few times now and the past twice the quality of food was very poor ! Yeterday the Lamb was tough , and the sweet potato over cooked ! I and my friends dont intend to go back unless we can have a meal that tastes nice !

Visited on Bank Holiday Saturday for a meal and Adele tribute with a group of friends.Three of us ordered soup, two returned theirs to the kitchen as it was luke warm and I was given a refund for mine. I ordered fillet steak which was really good but we waited a long time between courses and were not offered a dessert menu by waitresses - one of our party took it upon themselves to distribute menus! The staff were all very young and seemed to be running the place without the presence of a Manager. The act was excellent.

Very quite pub believe this is due to it being over 21s now, which is a shame as I can’t now come here for a drink with my daughter on the weekends. However when I do come here it’s great services everytime, the staff are always so lovely and would really recommend this pub, food is amazing!

The service was really poor we waited for ages . Other customers were also complaining and then I witnessed appalling behaviour from a female member of staff towards the customer who had complained . The member of staff a young girl with dark hair was hurling abuse at the customer for all to see . Won’t be visiting again and would definitely not recommend

Food looks great but I don’t expect to be spoken to in the way I was by the barmaid - just because I didn’t know my table number! Hence order was cancelled and we took our custom elsewhere - won’t be returning purely on the lack of manners & customer service! what a shame!

Visited Royal with daughter and dog, after walk, for a spot of lunch. Been going here for years and generally it has been good. This time we really got excellent, attentive service. Nothing too much trouble. Everything else including food from the lunch menu was agreeable and made for a nice relaxing lunch. It was not so busy so cannot compare it when the pressure is on.

There were 8 adults and 1 baby. We visited the Royal Oak on our way to Harry Potter World and so glad we did. Our waitress Kote was brilliant could not have asked her for any more. All of the food we ordered was delicious. Can not fault anything thank you if we are win the area we would return.

The pub has a nice ambience and the food is decent at reasonable prices with special offers on certain week nights. They have tribute bands and the ones we have seen have been excellent. You need to prebook as its a popular place. They have nice gardens when the weather is nice too. Car parking is tight but there is a public free car park up the road in the village.

A small group of us attended lunch time 31.12.2018. We asked if we could eat in the bar rather than the dining room,and we were told that was fine,I noticed others were eating in the bar area and the dining room was about half to 75% full.

We came here because of availability and we're so glad we did. Really great food, fresh, hot, excellent portion sizes and reasonably priced. Very friendly staff too.

ordered prawn cocktail. It was made of defrosted shrimps and had no flavour. Friend ordered lamb shank which came with broccoli. Had no broccoli so advised, what ever veg you have available. Dish came with mash potato only. Eventually got a nuked dish of frozen peas. Had a prawn cocktail to die for at Hunters Lodge near Whipsnade

Visited today after a good experience visiting in December 2017. Was advised that pub now under new management. Warm welcome but downhill from thereon in. Ordered food and was advised over 45 mins. later that they were not able to provide what we'd ordered. Our alternative of prawn cocktail was disgusting. Smallest of small prawns with hardly any sauce - definitely not warranting the price charged.

Called off for Tea, restaurant closed but owner very accommodating and allowed us to eat by ourselves given our son is on the spectrum. We ordered our food and two of the dishes came out wrong, they were quick to rectify but it wasn't worth the price on the menu. I ordered fillet steak and it was overcooked and looked pathetic given it was £18+ A bit of steak, chips and an overload of salad, drowned in dressing didn't deserve the money they were charging!

We both live locally and meet a few times a year, usually in the Royal Oak pub restaurant. We have always enjoyed the food there in the past. Today we both had chicken escalopes with sweet potato chips and coleslaw, a really delicious meal and a generous portion. The girls serving us were cheerful, welcoming and the service was fast. As a gardener I admired the lovely hanging baskets and the beautiful garden in general. There were several of us retired ladies today for lunch by coincidence. And everyone left with a smile on their face so they must have also been happy. We shall be back and I am planning to take family members there. It is my type of a traditional English pub restaurant.

We had a surprise birthday party at the pub yesterday and it was fab from start to finish. The staff are all so welcoming and great service. The buffet was amazing and not much got left which was great to see. The staff even got on their hands and knees to help find the birthday girls pendant after it fell off her necklace. The garden was great for all the little party animals with the slide area and bouncy castle. Would highly recommend this place and will definately book again for any future parties

Stopped off here after visiting the Harry Potter studio tour. Arrived mid afternoon on a lovely sunny day so sat in the beer garden. Young lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming. I had the beetroot salad with chicken as extra. It was the most delicious salad I’ve ever had from a pub. Hubby had the platter sharer which he really enjoyed. Lovely pub and very clean. Nice friendly staff. We didn’t have long to wait for our food and it was very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

We visited the Royal Oak before going to the Harry Potter studio tour in April 2018. We had high hopes when we first entered as the place was quaint, a strange set up, but quaint none the less. The place also seemed to be busy with locals, so we thought that must be a good sign.

After a trip to Warner brother studios we were looking for somewhere to go for some food and a nice pint, or 2. Fortunately for us on arriving at the unicorn round the corner it was full. The royal oak is an excellent pint and fantastic food couldn't fault them, especially after getting us in with no notice on Easter Sunday.

This pub has dramatically changed since the management has changed. I visited here with my family for my nans birthday meal.

Living in the village, I have been a regular diner at the Royal Oak, admittedly in the evening.

My husband and I had the roast lamb & roast gammon, both dishes were amazing. Both meats were tender and melted in the mouth, delicious vegetables and crispy tasty roast potatoes. Service was first class, and xmas music playing in the background, it was a lovely atmosphere. Thank you for a pleasant evening. We look forward to returning very soon.

Visiting this pub used to be one of the highlights of a visit to see my family in Watford. Over the last few years, whenever I am in the country it is one of our favourite pubs and at one time I wrote a review of the amazing food there especially the nut roast.

We visited here before going to Harry Potter studios phoned and booked as there was 11 of us the lady I spoke to on the phone was very polite and helpful one of the only pubs in the area I could find with disabled facilities the staff on the day was lovely nothing was to much trouble and the food was outstanding if I was in the area again would definitely pay another visit

The food makes up for the seating. The chairs don't match and the fabric is stained. Our table was sticky. The generator is still outside the main door. The staff didn't seem to know what their jobs were. The music was loud we couldn't hear ourselves talk. The seabass was excellent as was the steak our friends had. Will think again before visiting this pub.

Booked for a Sunday roast as a family of 3. The table wasn't in the greatest locations (by the till) but the food was delicious. We had the trio of meat roast and they happily swapped the gammon for chicken. The Welsh lamb was spot on and the corn fed chicken was lovely. The beef was good but could have done with some horseradish. The veg and fluffy Yorkshire were . My little one had the chicken goujons and really enjoyed them. All in and with 2 San Miguels it came to £25!!! Definitely will be returning

Food was excellent, I got a ciabatta sandwich with chargrilled chicken and pesto. It was so tasty and great value for money. I will definitely be going back again.

I booked this pub for a meal with friends, whilst I admit that over the phone I was adivsed that 'soul train' was on I was also assured this would not affect us in the restaurant. Having not been there before i was unaware that the 'restaurant' is in the bar. How wrong they were..dreadful, loud 1970;s disco music completely drowned out any conversation, unable to hear ourselves think let alone talk. The staff were unprofessional and uncouth, arguing amongst themselves and generally being loud. Half the menu was not available, after ordering we waited over an hour for our main mean which was just about average. Its a real shame as the pub is in a lovely setting and could be great with new management, staff and a complete menu.

Meet up with friends for a catch up, we had Sunday lunch which was nicely cooked the gravy was yummy, one of our party was gluten free, the waitress asked the chef who marked off what was suitable, but she couldn't have the roast, so would be helpful if they had gluten free gravy because it's limits the menu, but everything else was lovely would come again

The awful diesel fumes from the 'temporary' generator in the car park mar what is potentially a nice venue.Am contacting Enviromental Heslth as talking with the managers there is not resolving this.Shame

Gr8 nite shame about fumes from generator staff were amazing but stayed open regardless plenty of customers moaned and asked why the generator was so close to a door that when opened diesel fumes filled the bar area ,full credit to manager on shift and all her staff so friendly

Family meal for Mothers Day. I was wrong chef was right on the steak. Nonetheless, a new steak cooked and it was fantastic. All the food was great and everyone happy. Gift for Mothers Day unexpected and welcome. Recommend this place and thanks again to the Chef who is proud and helpful. Thanks so much

I was disappointed with the visit to the pub. Both me and my friend thought that their offer on a Tuesday for steak, chips, salad and a drink for £11.95 was a great price! But were upset when we had finally ordered our steaks(after 20 minutes of waiting), to be Medium -rare and both came out quite different. One was almost blue....then told the waitress which she then argued it was cooked to how we asked but then asked for it to be cooked a little more...which it had only been flashed cooked again...

The walking group is large, so we split into two groups of 30 and 36 walkers respectively on two different days. We booked tables but could not pre-order lunches because it is an ad-hoc walking group and it depends who turns up on the day. The staff were rushed off their feet but coped very well. They had other customers to serve and the pub was full. Steph did a wonderful job co-ordinating the waitresses and the kitchen. The food was good, and we were well served, despite the numbers. Well done!

Tasty and well cooked food served by attentive and pleasant staff. Always a friendly welcome and nothing is too much trouble. A genuine loyalty card is available if you are a regular customer acommpanyied by an excellent range of real ales of which tasters are always welcome.

I visited The Royal Oak for a late lunch/early dinner with my family after a visit to Warner brothers studio tour. I found it on trip advisor and I'm so glad we gave it a try. I hadn't booked and we were greeted and seated quickly by a lovely lady called Steph who took our drinks order straight away and we were given time to look over the menus. We ordered our food which arrived quickly and was delicious and hot. We also ordered dessert which again was delicious. Eating out is normally a nightmare for us as I have a 12 year old very fussy autistic son and a 76 year old mother who can quite often be impatient and picky but they were both extremely happy with their food and the staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant was spacious, quiet and bright, unfortunately we live quite a way from here which is a real shame as we would definitely return. Thanks for a lovely, easy, enjoyable couple of hours.

Very pleased they could get us in without booking but was disappointed. Firstly the Sunday chicken roast dinner was only just warm , the chicken very very small , ok so it left room for desert My eaton mess turned up it was just cream with no meringue or strawberries.. it did have strawberry sauce. I returned it and they bought another out. This time cream, meringue, and sauce, no strawberries .. by this time i was creamed out and had to leave it. I'm sure it was because they were very busy but that shouldn't make a difference to the temperature of the food or lack of strawberries and meringue.
