We were up from Cornwall visiting family in Rickmansworth so decided to book this restaurant for a family get together there was a total of 16 of us ranging from Great grandparents down to our 5 Great granddaughters, we have visited here before when leaving for Cornwall in 2015 we done a big leaving party then when we visit we will often use this pub. The food was really lovely but the service was really poor with bad attitude from one of the waitresses which you don't need spending over £350 two or three made comments about her maybe she should find a job where she doesn't have to deal with the public

I went to see a show at a nearby theatre, and called in for a quick pint whilst I waited for a taxi home. The pub was fairly busy, but there were three girls serving behind the bar. I waited and waited, and it was quite obvious that people were pushing in front of me, but the staff seemed clueless as to who they should serve next. At one point, one of the girls shouted “is anyone waiting” and I shouted “ yes please” and then she looked at me, and then served someone else who had just arrived at the bar! Finally a girl was heading towards me, and said “who’s next” just as another couple arrived at the bar. The couple went to place their order and that’s when I jumped in and said hold on, I’ve been waiting ages. The couple and the barmaid just stared at me as if I had arrived from another planet. I was then tersely asked what I wanted, and then huffily served my drink without a smile or a thank you. I was one of the older people in the bar, and I can only assume that the staff were giving their mates priority, but I found the whole experience very humiliating, and very disappointing. Out of the three girls, only one seemed to know how to smile. The other two were robotic, and clearly not happy in their job. There was also a total lack of anyone in charge, which maybe explains the shoddy service. I have been using this pub for many years with my family for drinks and food, but based on this experience, I won’t be returning any time soon.

Went to watch a match at the Euros. A lot of people there for the England match as expected. Only 2 tvs and no sound from one made it quote hard to view the match. However positives were the drinks and food came really quick, staff were extremely friendly and tentative even though it was packed. Will be back but maybe get a few more TV's and fix the sound to make it a better experience.

We visited The Coach and Horses for an evening meal and drinks with friends in May 2024. The menu has a good selection of pub style food on and the selection of real ales and craft beers was excellent and well kept. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. The pub is located slightly away from the main centre of Rickmansworth but still within easy walking distance of the railway station, buses, Premier Inn etc. The clientele was a wide variety of ages and for a Sunday night, it was pretty busy. We would certainly choose to come here again if in the area.

£18.95 gets you a pint of ale and a Fillet steak (6oz I think, but plenty) with chunky chips, a mushroom, grilled tomato, salad and a choice of 3 sauces for the steak. This time I had mushroom sauce, last time I had pepper sauce: both were very nice. This was my second visit in the last couple of months. The first time I thought it must’ve been a one-off, since I am so hard to please when it comes to steaks. But no, it was just as good the second time too. I asked for medium rare, and that’s exactly what I got. The steak was tender, without any sinew or toughness at all: simply excellent. You’d be paying close to £30 in most restaurants for a piece of steak of this quality; Cote, for example. I like a good clear pint of ale, so when the barmaid appeared from the cellar and announced that she’d just changed the barrel of Sussex Best, I did a little fist pump. Sadly I was driving, so only one for me on this visit - but I mention this since you’re usually paying £5-£5.50 for a pint of this, and the beer is included in the Steak Thursday Meal Deal. The staff were friendly, and were working their socks off. Yes, there’s a few locals too, but isn’t that a good thing? I’m busy looking for another Thursday visit in my diary!

General consensus of 6 diners: Food was mediocre to poor; e.g. Linguine: too much pasta & sauce and not enough king prawns for £17.95; Fish & Chunky Chips: Small portion of fish £16.45. Lovely old pub...but they obviously overbooked and couldn't cope with the number of tables they needed to serve on Mother's Day. Squashed 6 of us on a table meant for 4. I could see the kitchen staff were pushed. Waited well over an hour for starters, mains came a few hours in and my mum's lamb was like leather, sadly. Pork belly were nice enough. Not sure what the promised Mother's day free gift was supposed to be. Not an enjoyable experience at all. Staff weren't interested to hear about it either. A shame because we've been here twice before and it was great!

After exploring Rickmansworth, we were trying to find a quiet pub. The Weatherspoons was packed to the seams and being flu season I wanted to avoid this crowd. The pub near the church was just all ponce and fluff. All we wanted was a casual place to sit and have a few drinks before lunch so we headed here. Lovely open fire going in the front as we entered. The place is popular with locals for sure. The staff seem young and not too confident about service. Both times I went to the bar they were elsewhere and I had to wait for them to make their way back to the bar. Someone should always be stationed at the bar when there are patrons crowding in the front. There was rowdy banter by a group of the locals which was fine with us. Not everyone would have liked their dog however who barked constantly as they tried to teach him tricks with treats. And that I know if the big debate in England at the moment about dogs in pubs. When the weather is nice, there's so much outdoor seating.

Overall experience was good; most food was nicely presented and tasty. However, I was disappointed with the dish I ordered - spinach gnocchi with wild mushrooms (supposedly in a white wine sauce). When it arrived, it was in pool of oil and unfortunately for me it tasted like the mushrooms had been cooked in marmite and burnt. Not a pleasant taste for someone who doesn't like marmite anyway! Even my marmite-loving husband agreed it wasn't good. I asked our server what the sauce was and she said she'd find out but never came back to our table. I would just advise that if you're going to include an ingredient where the strapline is literally "love it or hate it", it might be worth putting it on the menu (considering the menu is seemingly a list of ingredients anyway!). Thankfully some churros got rid of the horrible aftertaste!
