It's always nice to have a drink in the Halfway House, good banter always abounds there.

Strange pub. There's a prison down the road and they don't serve food or coffee, so they're losing out on a lot of regular business. The place was void of atmosphere seeing as it was virtually empty at lunch time. The barmaid was keeping herself amused by giving the books on display a good wipe over, and that was the highlight of our visit. Will not be going there again in a hurry.

It's a lovely big looking old pub and Ive always wanted to go in there, so tonight we decided to go check it out , me & my boyfriend walked in to check out the pub for a future booking. And as we looked around the landlady asked me if I was Alright in a intimidating voice and I said "ignore me, we are just looking around" And she said "excuse me" She made me feel so uncomfortable, I left straight away from the very cleaky pub. Which is a shame but i will not be going back.

Gets a decent crowd once in a while. Quite cliquey which I'm not a fan of. Not a place you'd want to take your partner for food or a drink. Very quite and dull most of the time. 1* because it does sell alcahol

No App, Landlady was on her own and pub is no longer Greene King, so she might be a relief Manager. But she was pretty efficient. A little bossy, which some people didn't like.

Just a notification to the drinking public that as from last week (mid March 2018), the pub has metamorphosised into one owned by the Green King brewery of Bury St Edmunds. They brew many fine ales but I believe they have a similar food menu across all their pubs. This is something I found out when I had a brewery tour there in early March 2018. Please LIKE if you found this review helpful, thank-you.

Just stopped in for a quick drink and bite to eat as we were over that way to visit family. Such a cosy little place and so good to have a down-to-earth menu. Like pubs used to be. Recommend it for couples and families who want a cosy, happy atmosphere and a relaxed drink.

The pub was looking a little worn out faded and in need of some care and attention. Now it certainly looks better, serves cocktails, has a huge variety of spirits, and televisions covering all the sports events not forgetting a pool table.

Very rude. Instead of asking me to leave, manager shouted at me to 'Get out with that child!' Because I was in the pub just after 8pm with my 8 week old baby. I was not drinking alcohol and baby was asleep, away from the bar so not causing any fuss.

The Halfway House in Bovingdon is one of only two pubs remaining in the village, from the original five pubs that were here many years ago. The pub has seen many changes over the years and now presents itself as a local in the village with it's claim to fame as the venue for live sports. For those without sports channels on TV, it is the perfect place to meet with friends and watch live sport with a few pints.

A bit grim, not the most salubrious of establishments it has all the charm of a mouldy flannel. The music was at the volume of excruciating pain to the ear drums the carpet is very sticky and the larger offer is very limited. I wouldn't avoid this place but it is the last chance saloon.

Nobody in the restaurant when we arrived. Eventually a member of staff in a scruffy tee shirt appeared and said beef or chicken roast only today. We ordered and were served by a young lady with ripped jeans who had clearly never been taught how to serve at table.

"Mitchell's Kitchen" recently opened up in house. Extensive Menu, including 2 course lunch for £9. Kid's Menu £4.99. Steaks, ribs, burgers and chicken from the Grill. Sunday lunch 2 courses £11.99 or 3 for £13.99. Kid's Sunday roast at £4.99 should be popular. This gastro pub is coming back, and they are trying hard. Expect fruit machines, TV's, kids and dogs. A value pub for the family.

This is an OK place - seemingly under different management every couple of months. You will get a good pint, but the grub - whilst usually great value - is really nothing special. TV's everywhere if you want to watch sport.
