The Old Mill in Dacorum

I haven't been for a couple of years because I hated it last time. However, it has had a few management changes and some friends were meeting there, so reluctantly we went. It was nice, we enjoyed our food, which was pub grub and it was so much better than before. We won't be hesitant to go managing

Another fabulous meal @ the Old Mill. We went on Steak night & two of us shared the Tomahawk - it was delicious.. so much meat! Wish I had taken a photo, we forgot, in our haste to tuck in!

Couldn’t find my booking which I had evidence of. Asked for a table in the booking to be sat near a TV to watch the football, they weren’t showing the football. Had the garlic prawn linguine which was just bland.

We went there with a group of friends/parents from TC and Victoria schools to celebrate the end of term and spent over £100 just ourselves. We ordered two gin and tonics through the app, but were served only one. We questioned where the other one was and were told we only ordered one tonic and two gins and my partner’s drink was a double gin and tonic as ordered. I showed the waitress the receipt showing the order of two gins and two tonics but she still refused to provide the other drink. Eventually the manager came over and told me I must be wrong. I showed her the receipt but she said she’d already pored a double so I just needed to buy another gin and tonic. She said my receipt must be wrong as her ticket only showed one tonic and two gins. I asked to see her ticket and she went off to get it. 5 minutes later a waitress dropped a gin and tonic on our table without any comment or apology. Pretty sure they screwed up the order but their default answer was ‘customer must be wrong’ and even when they realised it was their screw-up there was never any apology. After spending over £100 the assumption that I must be some lying chancer trying to get a single gin n tonic was pretty offensive. Needless to say we’ve already agreed with the other parents to go to the Bull next time instead. Their customer service is consistently excellent.

Went here today as a table of 6 for mother’s day breakfast/lunch, we have attended multiple times in the past and normally thought this place was great value for money. However today’s experience was awful. Our eggs were snotty and undercooked, poached eggs did not have a runny yoke. Smashed avocado very thinly spread on the toast. Bacon hard and cold. No butter for the toast. We had to ask for cutlery. The pine apple juice was bitter. At first we put this down as a a one off. However once we had left the assistant manager called multiple times accusing us of not paying and insisting we returned to pay again. This was very traumatic for my partner as we don’t do tabs and always pay as we order for peace of mind. He eventually accepted that we had paid in cash but still refused to apologise for accusing us of not paying. What was surprising was he agreed that they coudnt cope with how busy the restuarant was and that’s why the service was awful. Unfortunately I’m not sure if we would return after this event. I like the Old Mill as we use it as the ‘boardroom’ for the Berko FC Supporters Association!

Great food and service. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. The steak pie is definitely worth a try!

Visited on Mothers Day (4 mothers - 2 sisters and their 2 daughters). The food was delicious (2 had roasts & 2 had seabass) and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The starters were delayed but we didn’t complain as they were busy but they offered us a free bottle of wine as way of an apology. We all received a Mothers Day gift on departing. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will return.

We booked and arrived on time. It took an hour to then be served our order because, we were told, people were ordering on your app and, I assume, treated as a priority. It all felt a bit stressful. Please sort your ordering process and train your staff to communicate. Food was great - as it has been on other visits.

Food was amazing, fresh ingredients and melt in the mouth meats. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Asked for an item that was not on the menu and in a few minutes there it was on our table. Amazing. This was our first visit and will not be the last.

I had my 50th birthday party at the old mill in Berkhamsted. Catering for 50+ people, the owners and staff were brilliant in helping organise the buffet and then on the night itself all was bought out hot and quickly. Great service all night and really friendly staff. Thanks for helping make it such a memorable night.

Having chosen the venue due to positive reviews, our visit was somewhat disappointing. Different attitudes from two different members of staff, slow service (although hardly any customers), had to approach the bar to pay even though had asked for bill some 10 mins previously. To put ‘the lid on it’ have since realised have been charged for a dessert that should have been included in the ‘lunch 2 course’ offer. Unlikely to revisit.

Great breakfast with quality ingredients. More than reasonably priced at under £7 for a full English. Would highly recommend.

Really busy good atmosphere excellent food and lovely service

The food it's great. Service was good but the guy forgot to ask if the food comes out together....by the time my friend got the meal...my food was cold. Simple things...vut important.

Didn’t realise this place had reopened and I’m so glad! The food is amazing and it’s a really good all round pub - has tv, kids play area and different stuff on different nights. Highly recommend. Oh and the staff are really nice too.

First visit to The Old Mill and loved the pub, the food, and the atmosphere. Service, however, was a little chaotic and we had to wait 25 minutes for our drinks to be served and they eventually arrived about 20 seconds before our food. We had reminded staff about our drinks after waiting 10 minutes, and then in the following 15 minutes we had two different staff members tell us that our drinks were on the way .. as they passed our table. I cant quite fathom why they couldnt have brought them as they were passing the table anyway 🤔 The upshot was that we had 1 drink with our meal and then went somewhere else. Had service been quicker then we would have had more drinks at The Old Mill. Shame really as we all liked the place.

We visited during steak night, and it was an unbelievable deal - less than £40 for a sharing Cote De Boeuf *total* not each. And including sides and a glass of house. Taste? As good as Hawksmoor. Service/Atmosphere? As good as Nashville, TN. Outstanding ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Unfortunately didn't had good experience..!! It's shame because food was Good! Just service was terrible waited for food over 50min when I put complain I been told for 3 courses I have to wait that long I used to work in restaurant for years so I know you don't have to wait so long but understand ( could be some issues in kitchen or whatever)at least waiter should say is gonna be while ... BTW my colleague ordered just one meal ...still had to wait 50min.. as well. Unprofessional waiter when I colleague went ask for food and why is it so long she changed attitude... and when I got my last course on table she just bang it on table and gone it was obvious she was angry... it was really rude. Yeah when i remind her i still didn't get my last course she went in kitchen and said with annoyed voice I still had order dessert.... like I said rude attitude btw Sorry I was asking why is it so long... you could just come make some excuses why took it so lond and apologise simple maybe just ger Ego could take it .. as well We got there in morning time floor was already dirty well definitely won't come again

My partner and I came for lunch today for his birthday! We had a lovely time and Josh was very personable.

Went for a birthday celebration for 14 people. Food was excellent. Service brilliant! All staff made a massive effort. Highly recommended.

I visited the Old Mill in Berkhamsted once the new managers re-opened and what an exceptional experience it was. We were welcomed into the restaurant by Darcie who was more than helpful throughout our visit. They offered a variety of items on their menu which all sounded delicious but the BB Burger I had was perfectly cooked and had amazing flavour. My wife had the Lamb Kofta where the sauce complimented the meat perfectly. Our experience from start to finish was nothing short of amazing. We will certainly be returning in no time. Thank you to the new managers and all the staff!

Went there 9/2/25 for an 18th birthday lunch, we were a bit crammed in but we managed. Would have been nice for a little cake to be brought out for the birthday girl.

Celebrated my wife's 70 birthday lunch on Sunday (11 people and 4 children) and was allocated the separate room . Can honestly say that we had a great time,good food,slick friendly service even though the pub was really busy. The separate room was not overcrowded and the children could move around easily without disturbing other dinners. The menu had something for everyone and roasts was very popular .(reasonable priced too) We will be back👍

Beautiful looking pub but that's where it ended. The menu was eclectic but in a confused way. I went for the steak deal, which had an exceptional price point but there was a reason for that. It was cold and missing the mushroom and tomato. My daughter had the lamb shank, it was tough and clearly microwaved. My son had 2 small plates, the squid which was chewy, and the gyozas which tasted like cat food. Finally my partner had the schnitzel which was soggy but the chicken was dry. The desserts were so bad I can't even explain how bad they were. For such a beautiful looking pub I expected so much more from the food and service, I definitely won't rush back.

Booked a table for 6 people for 3pm...got our table at 3.45 ISH....waited ages for someone to take our order, waited ages for drinks had to keep chasing them up. Kids Mac and cheese was so dry, was like there was no sauce just grated cheese on top, for a 8 year old to complain says a lot. They did let us order him something else which he enjoyed. The rest of us enjoyed our food, very tasty. It's a lovely pub in a beautiful setting. It was just the service that really let it down for us.

Visited with 14 friends not a good experience. Waited over an hour for food although we prebooked.0ne of our party waited ages for her lamb minus Yorkshire pudding. Plates were not cleared and we were not asked if we wanted puddings or coffee. Won’t be going back

Don’t bother booking a meal at The Old Mill - our experience on Boxing Day was awful. Despite booking a month in advance & paying a deposit for a specific dining area, our table was occupied by other customers when we arrived & for the duration. 14 of us (with 2 young children & 8 dogs) were squeezed into the back of the pub with very limited space. To say it was cramped & stressful is an understatement. The food was lukewarm, atmosphere chaotic, staff rude. No apology! Don’t bother booking here, look elsewhere! Never again!

I went to The Old Mill with my family for Christmas Eve dinner 2024. The festive menu was lovely and so was the food. I had the turkey and it wasn't dry like some places, it actually looked and tasted like a home cooked meal. Proper potatoes, not frozen etc. The dessert was a little bit on the small side hence losing the 1 star. The staff were so obliging and made the evening so much more enjoyable. We got the table we asked for which added to the experience. Everything was really spot on and we all came away feeling like that was one of the best roast dinners. Really looking forward to going back again to try a Sunday Roast.

Went on a Saturday for a birthday celebration we had room just off of the bar FANTASTIC. We were allowed to decorate this area. It was at lunch time and the staff were very busy we had our own birthday cake but forgot the candles the staff supplied one and a large knife and small plates WOW what a place. The food was the best as well 10 out of 10 all around 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Poor. Arrived at our table to find a grubby water glass. Should have left then. Food was extremely poor. Prawn cocktail arrived in a hot dish with a limp lettuce leaf and stale bread. Fish and chips. Chips were soggy and not very nice. Fish was ok but a but greasy. All in all I could not recommend this restaurant.

The place has had a face lift and we enjoyed our visit. The benefit of tue location and car park is great, and we liked that there are lots of zones to the space. Menu has lots of width and we enjoyed the small plate choices. Some of the staff could do with alittle pep, but our main waiter went above and beyond and really has a flair for customer service. Ro definitely enhanced outlr visit! Thanks very much Ro!

Recently had superb Sunday roast, 10/10

Our family day was perfect ! The staff and atmosphere were perfect . 15 of us all had a variety of meals off the menu . All came up presented beautifully and hot . The feed back from all the family who travelled to join us said , let’s do this again . Thank you Old Mill

A ‘Christmas Party’ lunch for 12 at The Old Mill Berkhamsted was enjoyed the Sunday after Christmas Day. We had a room to ourselves the table in which was nicely laid with candles and crackers. At my request the music and television were turned off within our space there. A variety of dishes had been pre ordered and everyone enjoyed their food. Poppy who had been designated to look after us was excellent in her swift and courteous responses. All credit to her with her cheerfulness and wish to please us, giving us a lovely family get together.

Would not recommend! Dogs barking non stop. I also pre ordered a week in advance and they said they run out of what I ordered and handed me something completely different.

Had our Christmas works lunch and overall the food was lovely and portions were very generous. The only grumbles I feel that needs to be mentioned, we were crammed on a table and wasn't a lot of room for us all (12 guests) and when I asked the waitress if they had everyone's names and their choices, she responded 'oh don't worry we are all over it and we know who's got what' only to come out and simply shout out the dish? and low and behold most, if not all at the table forgot what they had ordered. I think for large parties, a little reminder card helps. Also if it wasn't for me asking, we wouldn't have had our complimentary glass of fizz either. But everyone was pleased with the food and left feeling full and happy.

Beautiful pleace with helpful service. They saved my boyfriend who missed his breakfast in a hotel. They prepered for him a breakfast even that it was too late and week day.

The ambience of the pub is lovely, cosy and well decorated. For some reason though, the whole place smelled very strongly of bleach which isn't pleasant when you are eating and drinking. We booked a table for two hours, however was asked to vacate the table 20 mins early as they were busy, so we didn't get to have dessert. The service was good, however we had multiple waitors/waitresses coming over asking the same questions (if we were wanted more drinks, if the food was good etc) which got a bit too much. I think it would be better to have only one or two people waiting on each table, to avoid too much interruption. All in all, we had a nice experience and would come back again.

We had our work Christmas event here, and the food was lovely. However, I did mention on two occasions that we had a guest with a nut allergy, but unfortunately, some of the dishes still had nuts on top. There was a little mix-up on the musical bingo due to a miscommunication with the managers and it wasn't provided. Overall, it was a lovely time but these factors did let it down slightly.

Had a Birthday lunch booked table for three. Told to sit any where of choice.Chose near the bar had to get own drinks.Chose from menu prawns pil pil nothing like in Spain. Fish & chips fine Scampi& chips fine.Had to get our own drinks again.Not busy on leaving no good bye .will not return

We had a party of 5 booked in for a Christmas/birthday meal and had selected from the Christmas menu in advance. We had a complimentary glass of prosecco and the staff waited until all our party arrived before preparing our food. The food was excellent and plentiful and we could not have had better service from Josh and his team. We will definitely eat there again.

What a wonderful experience we had today for breakfast with santa . Santa was amazing and loved how he was walking around talking to every child. Thank you for squeezing in the extra adult for us. I had one happy great niece when we went.

We were a party of 20 people. Even with a party of that size, the Old Mill staff were great, and the service and food were excellent.

Went there for a couple of drinks on Saturday afternoon. Lively crowd in there watching the arsenal game so we stayed for a couple of cocktails and beers and moved on somewhere a little quieter. Great selection of draught beers and the menu looked good - looked like diners were enjoying the food. Worth a revisit.

Went for a christmas meal with friends. Had the christmas menu and the food was delicious. The staff were really attentive and good fun. Our table was dressed with lovely christmas decorations and helped towards making the evening fantastic. I will definitely go back and highly recommend it.

After a negative experience with a rude male manager last time we visited, I didn’t know what to expect. Fortunately, we had a great experience last night! The food was delicious and good value for money, service was great (shout out to Shona and another female member of staff whose name I didn’t get), and the atmosphere was pretty good. We happened to book on Thursday steak night and had a great meal! We would recommend it if you like steak. I’ve deducted one star due to the experience with the male manager last time. If they can keep him in the back office, it would be a 5 star experience!

An all round good pub for social meet with friends, family and for work. Wide selection of beers and ales with a good food menu which appears to be good value compared to other local pubs. All made easier to visit with plenty of parking and dogs are allowed in main area not restaurant.

A traditional public house offering fine ales, lager and much much more. There is a decent food menu as well.

Took my mum and her friends for brunch - average age of 89! We all enjoyed the experience, it was warm and clean. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely go back again soon.

We stopped off just for drinks and can't comment on the food. I really like how the place has been renovated, to give it both a cosy and airy atmosphere. We will return and planning a meal here in December.

The food is quality, the sharing roast is certainly worth going there to try. The place has been well decorated and feels proper cosy.

I was amazed at the size of the gluten free menu and I'd definitely not seen that beforehand. My gf was big, but the usual menu was even bigger! All the food tasted very good, although I did regret ordering a pizza and not the shepherd's pie and that's only because you can get pizza's anwhere, but a pub cooked shepherd's pie would have tasted awesome.

The Old Mill is back on track!! My first time in here since it went under new ownership. It looks stylish and has a great atmosphere. Cat the General Manager is lovely and very welcoming. Food quality was excellent and good value for money. Salmon was perfectly cooked and chicken and halloumi kebabs were delicious. I will definitely be back.

Attended an event here, great food, gardens and menu. Staff were super friendly and attentive. Plenty of parking. Will definitely be returning.

We had chicken pie & roast vegetables in thick gravy. Simple but absolutely delicious. The pie was rammed full of chicken & I mean rammed full of chicken & the pastry sublime. The vegetables were gorgeous too. Can't wait for winter, I know where I'll be on a cold winters day. Good food, helpful staff, service with a smile.

Friendly service and a good selection on the menu. The sausage and mash was delicious. Huge meaty sausages, served with fresh vegetables. My husband particularly liked the gravy. The roast beef was a huge plate of food. Tasty fresh vegetables and plenty of roasties, the meat was just pink but very tender.

First time we've been back here since it changed hands and we were very impressed! The Old Mill has had a variety of owners over the years, but they've all struggled and not lasted long, but I hope that's not the case now. The food and service were really excellent and we'll be back on a regular basis if the quality remains this high. Well done, guys!

Since the Old Mill has been in new hands, we have been here several times now. The food is great with good vegetarian options. The atmosphere is warm & friendly. Cat & the team have been fantastic upon every visit and we’re always greeted with a smile. Highly recommend, especially for their Sunday roast!

Way better under new ownership/management. Food is in no way gourmet, but not bad for pub food! Great garden areas, bar area gets super busy at times which means service is slow and a bit disjointed/unorganised at times, but it’s nice to see it busy and the staff seem quite new. Decor is a vast improvement on the last version.

A really lovely place to eat. Beautiful food , drinks are a little pricey and service was a little slow. But overall a lovely place.

Nice food. Football on the TV was very loud. Lovely waterfall from the old mill outside. Loved the decor lots of old fashioned signage and framed portraits. Ladies toilets have themed toilet seats. Staff are friendly. Parking is a bit limited.

Service slow , starter failed to turn up .

We were a group of three for Sunday lunch which was quite a busy time with some large family gatherings both inside and outside. Although the service was prompt and pleasant, we did seem to have to ask for everything, including salt and pepper as well as the sauces and mustard that were listed on the menu as coming with our meals. The family atmosphere was initially very pleasant but ultimately the televisions were switched on for sports with a loud viewing audience at the bar and a loudspeaker directly above our table making conversation difficult. We may try there again but at a quieter time.

Had a really nice evening. Given warning for last orders as usual tried to order a last drink and told.was shut at 10.45. Really annoyed me and probably overreacting but I felt poor

The food and atmosphere was good. The bar staff are lovely and very accommodating. The lady who is the manager was awful. We were given the wrong drinks and charged a higher price, when we questioned it she went on to shout at my friend asking what she wanted us to do about it and to stop giving her attitude. She ended up silencing the pub and my friend came back to the table crying. We all work in hospitality and thought this response was disgusting.

Went for brunch on Sunday - excellent breakfast and coffee and great value for money - we will be back

Pub and food were lovely unfortunately a very offensive person on a boat took exception to us mooring there despite having permission from the owner which wasn't good.

Nice place, but there is not good signal and they don't have wifi for customers!

Shocking food !! Probably the worst burger I've ever had. My girlfriends pizza was just as bad! Don't waste your money !

Went for an evening meal yesterday (9th Oct 2023) - three friends out for a catch up - the sharing platters and pinot were ideal, nice quiet setting, friendly staff - we got the dipping platter and it was delicious - the chef came out and explained all the dips - he had such a passion for his craft, he made all the dips from scratch and you could tell, they were so tasty, and he also brought us out some freshly made oat crackers which were amazing and still warm, he also brought out some parma ham he had been curing for a while - it was delicious, the chips and sweet potato fries finished everything off nicely. Great catch up, cosy table and perfect picky food.
