I visited the Old Mill in Berkhamsted once the new managers re-opened and what an exceptional experience it was. We were welcomed into the restaurant by Darcie who was more than helpful throughout our visit. They offered a variety of items on their menu which all sounded delicious but the BB Burger I had was perfectly cooked and had amazing flavour. My wife had the Lamb Kofta where the sauce complimented the meat perfectly. Our experience from start to finish was nothing short of amazing. We will certainly be returning in no time. Thank you to the new managers and all the staff!

Celebrated my wife's 70 birthday lunch on Sunday (11 people and 4 children) and was allocated the separate room . Can honestly say that we had a great time, good food, slick friendly service even though the pub was really busy. The separate room was not overcrowded and the children could move around easily without disturbing other dinners. The menu had something for everyone and roasts was very popular .(reasonable priced too) We will be back👍

Beautiful looking pub but that's where it ended. The menu was eclectic but in a confused way. I went for the steak deal, which had an exceptional price point but there was a reason for that. It was cold and missing the mushroom and tomato. My daughter had the lamb shank, it was tough and clearly microwaved. My son had 2 small plates, the squid which was chewy, and the gyozas which tasted like cat food. Finally my partner had the schnitzel which was soggy but the chicken was dry. The desserts were so bad I can't even explain how bad they were. For such a beautiful looking pub I expected so much more from the food and service, I definitely won't rush back.

Booked a table for 6 people for 3pm...got our table at 3.45 ISH....waited ages for someone to take our order, waited ages for drinks had to keep chasing them up. Kids Mac and cheese was so dry, was like there was no sauce just grated cheese on top, for a 8 year old to complain says a lot. They did let us order him something else which he enjoyed. The rest of us enjoyed our food, very tasty. It's a lovely pub in a beautiful setting. It was just the service that really let it down for us.

Don’t bother booking a meal at The Old Mill - our experience on Boxing Day was awful. Despite booking a month in advance & paying a deposit for a specific dining area, our table was occupied by other customers when we arrived & for the duration. 14 of us (with 2 young children & 8 dogs) were squeezed into the back of the pub with very limited space. To say it was cramped & stressful is an understatement. The food was lukewarm, atmosphere chaotic, staff rude. No apology! Don’t bother booking here, look elsewhere! Never again!

I went to The Old Mill with my family for Christmas Eve dinner 2024. The festive menu was lovely and so was the food. I had the turkey and it wasn't dry like some places, it actually looked and tasted like a home cooked meal. Proper potatoes, not frozen etc. The dessert was a little bit on the small side hence losing the 1 star. The staff were so obliging and made the evening so much more enjoyable. We got the table we asked for which added to the experience. Everything was really spot on and we all came away feeling like that was one of the best roast dinners. Really looking forward to going back again to try a Sunday Roast.

Poor. Arrived at our table to find a grubby water glass. Should have left then. Food was extremely poor. Prawn cocktail arrived in a hot dish with a limp lettuce leaf and stale bread. Fish and chips. A ‘Christmas Party’ lunch for 12 at The Old Mill Berkhamsted was enjoyed the Sunday after Christmas Day. We had a room to ourselves the table in which was nicely laid with candles and crackers. At my request the music and television were turned off within our space there. A variety of dishes had been pre ordered and everyone enjoyed their food. Had our Christmas works lunch and overall the food was lovely and portions were very generous. The only grumbles I feel that needs to be mentioned, we were crammed on a table and wasn't a lot of room for us all (12 guests) and when I asked the waitress if they had everyone's names and their choices, she responded 'oh don't worry we are all over it and we know who's got what' only to come out and simply shout out the dish? and low and behold most, if not all at the table forgot what they had ordered. I think for large parties, a little reminder card helps. Also if it wasn't for me asking, we wouldn't have had our complimentary glass of fizz either. But everyone was pleased with the food and left feeling full and happy.

We had our work Christmas event here, and the food was lovely. However, I did mention on two occasions that we had a guest with a nut allergy, but unfortunately, some of the dishes still had nuts on top. There was a little mix-up on the musical bingo due to a miscommunication with the managers and it wasn't provided. Overall, it was a lovely time but these factors did let it down slightly.

The ambience of the pub is lovely, cosy and well decorated. For some reason though, the whole place smelled very strongly of bleach which isn't pleasant when you are eating and drinking. We booked a table for two hours, however was asked to vacate the table 20 mins early as they were busy, so we didn't get to have dessert. The service was good, however we had multiple waitors/waitresses coming over asking the same questions (if we were wanted more drinks, if the food was good etc) which got a bit too much. I think it would be better to have only one or two people waiting on each table, to avoid too much interruption. All in all, we had a nice experience and would come back again.

After a negative experience with a rude male manager last time we visited, I didn’t know what to expect. Fortunately, we had a great experience last night! The food was delicious and good value for money, service was great (shout out to Shona and another female member of staff whose name I didn’t get), and the atmosphere was pretty good. We happened to book on Thursday steak night and had a great meal! We would recommend it if you like steak. I’ve deducted one star due to the experience with the male manager last time. Although the service was prompt and pleasant, we did seem to have to ask for everything, including salt and pepper as well as the sauces and mustard that were listed on the menu as coming with our meals. The family atmosphere was initially very pleasant but ultimately the televisions were switched on for sports with a loud viewing audience at the bar and a loudspeaker directly above our table making conversation difficult. I honestly cannot understand the positive reviews! Firstly it’s severely lacking atmosphere - we went on a Saturday night and it was empty bar a couple of tables, toys were strewn about the place from earlier in the day and there was no background music or candle light. As for the food - the menu is longer than an Argos catalogue and that should have been the first warning sign! We ordered the focaccia to share and it was in fact a pita bread with some semi raw onions in the middle of it! We sent it back and were just told ‘okay.’ At this point we really should have just left! We persevered for our mains and honestly they were so disappointing for the price - I ordered the rigatoni (which was £17!) and am convinced it was a jar of sauce with some pasta heated through in the microwave. My friends’ dishes were equally bland. My friend politely fed back to the waitress that the food was disappointing and was simply told “well other people seem to like it.” We were inclined to disagree given its near emptiness on a Saturday night the week before Christmas! In summary - a very poor pub charging high end gastro pub prices and offering none of the charm, service or food quality.

I really want to like the old mill. It could be brilliant. And it’s my local.. so I’d love to go there regularly. The food is good…if you manage to make it that far!! Every time I go the service is terrible. It begins with trying to make a reservation (they don’t answer the phone, don’t return voicemails and don’t respond to email). When we sit outside, it takes forever to get a drink at the bar even when it’s quiet. When we sit inside, we have to ask for everything (menus? Order a drink? Where is my food?). When the place is almost empty they seat everyone close together (eg we were a large party with 4 kids, an older couple out for a quiet meal probably do not want to sit on the table right next to us when there are many many other options. They asked to be moved- why was this not pre-empted to save the awkwardness?!) On my most recent visit they forgot my order so the rest of my table had nearly finished before my meal arrived- I expected my meal to be taken off the bill before it was brought to us and when I complained that it had not been, and questioned why everything has taken so long, rather than accept criticism I was challenged. I feel a lot of thought has been put into the menu but little thought has been put into front of house which really really lets the place down. After multiple poor experiences I won’t be bothering again. It was pretty handy having a place you could go for Sunday lunch without a reservation but now I know why it’s always half empty. Sort out front of house and you could have a brilliant establishment.

We had a lovely evening at Margo's last night - at their Flamenco and tapas event. The tapas were incredible, particularly the padrón peppers and bean stew (which really took me by surprise as it was SO tasty!) - you can tell that a lot of attention is paid to sourcing the best ingredients. We were given a selection of 6 tapas as part of the £30 price for the event and had fully intended to buy more to share (there were 4 of us) but they were so filling we had no room for more (gutted I forgot to take photos but I was too busy tucking in!)! The flamenco dancer and Spanish guitarist were also excellent and provided great entertainment. The whole evening took me back to Spain (minus the weather!), we really enjoyed it. I can't believe it's taken me so long to visit Margo's but I'll definitely be back again - this is the perfect spot for foodies :) Just to add this is a very family friendly and dog friendly restaurant, also the perfect spot to catch up with friends (like I did!)

Very accommodating in allowing me to customise my order to suit my preferences. We didn't have room for desserts, but they looked delightful too, so will definitely try those next time we come. We will most definitely return and tell all our friends and family to visit.

Lovely homemade pizza. Best I have eaten in town. Fresh ingredients. No nasty additives. I can't eat sulphates which is often found in processed foods which chain restaurants use to ensure all the food is exactly the same. Atmosphere I scored lower as all the place needs us more people to enjoy the good food and drink.

Poor service, small main course and burnt dessert. No decaf coffee! Not good value!

We have visited this lovely place several times and we never got out disappointed. The service is always excellent and the food mouth watering. All made fresh hence why you wait a little longer but we were never disappointed. The chef takes pride with hie cooking and also with presentation. We had few celebrations here the last was my mother’s birthday. The staff helped with decorating the area and the chef personally came out to give his best wishes to my mum. Food was delicious. We were given home made fresh bread with an olive dip to start by the chef himself. We then tried the special menu, the steak and Guinness pie was to die for with some delicious home made pastry and genuinely full of big chunks of meat. Very generous portion that did not go to waste !! The homemade ravioli were absolutely amazing huge and full of ricotta and spinach. We ended our night with the delicious pudding from the specials which was kindly presented with a candle and served well presented to my mum. Thank you to Margo at the Old Mill for their hospitality and their amazing service. Compliments to the chef for his attention to detail and to Yasmin for being such a good host. I look forward for more celebrations at this fantastic place.

The food is fantastic, and the menu is really varied. Some of the best food we've eaten in Berkhamsted. The Chef/owner takes real pride in the food they serve, and creates a really relaxed, hospitable atmosphere. The staff have always been very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be returning!

We had such a lovely meal last night at Margo’s that I felt compelled to leave a review. The service was excellent and the chef treated us to a complimentary charcuterie board, with hams that have cured themselves, that was absolutely delicious. You could see how much the chef took pride and care in his food and it made a real difference in flavour having many of the ingredients prepared from scratch. Will definitely be returning again and again.

Great food, amazing atmosphere. Reasonably priced, especially for the quality and portions. It's a growing pub, naturally some areas are being improved. Nothing detracted from the experience or food. If this is how it is now I'm excited to see its journey!

I highly recommend visiting Margo's; very friendly service and lovely atmosphere. The food is great quality and reasonably priced. Only downside is that the toilets need more attention.

Horrible roast dinner. The beef was two very small small, tough pieces of frying steak and the potatoes weren't roasted but had been (lightly) deep fried whole. Nothing on the plate had been roasted in an oven. And it was £16!

Food was okay. Steak was cooked to how I asked. Pizza was okay not alot of base sauce all way round the base but good overall. Chips were okay a few could have done with couple mins longer cooking but still okay. Good pint of guiness. Burgers were good. Not a bad place clean appearance. Would stop by again.

Visited today but only stayed 10 mins. Sat at our table which we had reserved no welcome from any staff. 1st thing I noticed was how many dogs were in this restaurant which made my mind up to leave along with the £7.50 price tag for a pint of asahi and 2 tissues on the floor which appeared to have dog poo on them which everyone just walked round. Great if your a dog but not for humans horrible atmosphere we left without ordering.
