Had a lovely roast, food was hot and flavoursome. The bar staff George and James was very attentive and friendly as were all the waiting staff. Highly recommend

I didn’t really enjoy my experience when I came with my mates to have something to eat. Improvements needed with service and how long we wait for food. I will revisit in a few months. I used to enjoy coming here such a shame to receive this experience

Would give a zero star if I could,2 hours for a roast dinner could of cooked it quicker at home,it's such a shame the crabtree used to be so good and we have been going here so long but yesterday was an absolute shambles we waited 1hour for cold chicken wings then another hour for our mains with a 2year old this is unexpectable.we were celebrating our granddaughters birthday and to be honest it was ruined she was so tired and fed up couldn't even do her cake,our food was not great either after waiting 2hours to get dried up food was very disappointing it's such a shame sort out your kitchen staff the staff in front of house was lovely but if you don't sort out the kitchen you will lose customers,it's such a shame our birthday celebrations was ruined really wish we went somewhere else.

Been there twice now and it is one of my favourite places to go for a meal. Nice service and the food was lovely.

Unfortunately when we arrived and begun looking at the menu (we had booked in advance for food and drinks) we were informed that the pub had taken on a table of 30 and due to this no food would be served from the kitchen at all. Unfortunately due to this we decided to leave and go elsewhere. However due to the fact we had booked prior it would have been nice to have received a call or email from the pub to notify us of the decision. The staff didn't seem to know what was going on and we were informed the kitchen couldn't cope with the large party plus other orders and so the party of 30 would be priority and nobody else would be getting food. I was not impressed and won't be rushing back for a Sunday lunch anytime soon

Service is very good in this time, they're trying to make sure everyone adheres to the distancung rules, whilst still being a good place to go for a drink. The food is always great too, love to grab a dinner here

Ordered Two Sunday roasts Ingredients "veg" in my opinion were Frozen and cooked in the oven. The type you can buy in the supermarket Gammon,Yorkshire and Gravey were fine. Could of made the dinner at home asked for apple sauce non available which is standard anywhere else. Food Quality very poor Not value for money

Incredible service from the bar staff especially George and Sarah, quick and good quality. Food came out quickly and was very nice, Sarah was great when dealing with our meal and dining experience.

For the amount of money you pay plus a service charge it’s not worth ordering. The food was very dry and chips were hard and cold. Burgers was bland and no flavour. Kids meals was worse and even the kids was questioning is that it! Portion sizes was shocking and we will not be ordering again. Hope that’s not how people are served if they go into the pub.

I had my Birthday celebration on September 7th , we had the silver buffet which was amazing , staff were very friendly and helpful , great attention to detail , all my guests thoroughly enjoyed it , I would definitely recommend.

Two visits, midweek, 1030 ish. One in july - nice for a quiet pint and a chat. One in august - pub was closed and all lights off by 1030 despite opening hours showing as open until 11pm. One or two other pubs nearby fortunately still open.

Bar service was decent and some of the food servers where great one guy was pretty grumpy and let the team down, and wait time for desserts after mains was excessive, took over nearly 45mins (chased after waiting 30mins) Set menu was good value, however the lasagne for one main was smaller than a Tesco ready meal and 2 of the desserts were disappointing (sticky toffee pudding gritty texture, choc orange sponge was boring, bland and flavourless, cold outside jelly/jam in the middle so hot it burnt the mouth, would avoid all these dishes in future

Me and my family came here for lunch on a Saturday. The atmosphere was laid back and the food was good. It's a decent gastropub.

Really homely pub and the service is super welcoming and attentive. The Tandoori chicken skewers were delicious

We had a table booked for 6.30 as we had toddlers with us and hoped to leave by 8pm for bedtime. Starters took ages and mains had not been served by 8.30.. We was then told by Security we needed to be out by 9 due to the children even though we had not even eaten. Seriously I was very angry at this with miserable children who were tired,bored and very hungry by this time, demanded a refund, left and wont be returning. A two hour wait for mains is not acceptable anyway but we had waited patiently only to be told to get out at 9. Fair enough you have this rule but why not serve tables with children first.. We dont want to stay until that time anyway with hungry, fed up kids!!!! Absolutely disgusting management response as well and not dealt with appropriately.

I had reserved a table, so seating wasn't a problem. Had to order food and drinks at the bar because the app wasn't working properly and I couldn't access the menus or order at the table buttons. When food arrived, it was well presented and tasted great. I use the Crabtree regularly and always enjoy it

A very nice and cozy pub, food is tasty at a reasonable price, and staff is brilliant. An excellent place for families to enjoy some time together. Nice sitting area outside with plenty of parking space.

Food was very average. Curry was unflavoured, with undercooked rice Service for food was slow, we waited 45 minutes When ordering food staff behind bar had no idea about the offers they had even when I mentioned and he couldn't/ wouldn't apply them Drinks were less than average, I had a pink gin and prosecco cocktail which was as clear as water, just something poured over ice The mojito had no mint no lemon worse mojito I've ever had

We had a very pleasant and relaxed lunch with family and friends here on Saturday in May. One of our party was in a wheelchair, which I had mentioned when making the reservation. When we arrived at the pub, I went in ahead of everyone else and gave my name and reservation details. The manager showed me to a nice table and, as he did so, he remarked that he had selected it for us as it had space for a wheelchair. He said this before seeing the rest of our party - so he had actually read up ahead of time and noted our special needs! This impressed me greatly. We had a great lunch. The food was good, the staff were all pleasant and the pub has a very nice ambience. All-in-all a delightful experience!

No draught cider ( tho delivery today ) . Shut kitchen at 8.45 ( no prior notice ) . Gone to hell since change of manager . Not the first time they have run out of beer or closed kitchen without warning . Headless chickens .

Friendly staff. The service was good and the food arrived quickly and very nice. It was quite, but not too quite. First time in, so can not comment on what it's like generally. Will definitely go back when in the area.

Come here regularly, was served by a dark haired middle aged bar lady who’s service was rude from the get go, I had a staff discount and she told me I couldn’t add it on after she added my drinks on without the discount also done my drinks ordered wrong then made a fuss when I said about it , lazy and rude service other bloke was lovely though

A very nice establishment. The wallpaper was lovely and they had very good hand dryers, good velocity. Food was excellent and it's always good to see tomato sauce in a glass bottle.

Went for a meal and a drink today, sat outside in the sun in the pub garden which is really spacious. However, I was with two other people and we ordered minutes between eachother on the app and we all received our food and drinks at completely different times. Working in hospitality, you know that if one table orders several meals - they should be served around the same time so everyone is eating together but each of us managed to finish our meal before the next one got theirs! My sister ordered 2 small plates at the same time; got one in relatively good time but didn’t receive the next one until me and my other friend had both received and finished our food. The worst point - there were several dead bugs on the lettuce I was served with my calamari!! 🤢 the lettuce is covered by the calamari so it wasn’t noticed until I’d eaten some too 😭 really disgusting and unhygienic considering they are putting that lettuce in all sorts of things. All it takes is a clean! Calamari wasn’t very nice and was served like mozeralla sticks. No cutlery or condiments given with any of the food either. Overall, was very disappointing! This is my first review I have ever made so that just goes to show :/

Stopped in for a spot of lunch before my son drove home. Fabulous meal. Everything was spot on and the pub is spotlessly clean. Will be back. Highly recommend.

Nice and clean place for lunch or dinner. I am usually able to eat steak medium rare, though this time I couldn't chew it.

A pet hate is searching the internet for a place that has what you fancy on the menu only to go there and find the item is not on the menu. We took ages studying the menu and my husband went to order only to be told they are changing the menu and there are no fish items. The shepherds pie was divine.

pub ok, staff nice and helpful. i had the vegetarian burger with chips £11.29 and a small americano coffee £2.19 total £13.48 on 22/4/2024. the coffee was standard nothing special and the burger very basic though when i looked in it there were 3 bits of something which looked like small chunks of margarine but were in fact cheese so after tasting that i took them out. the food is exactly the same as at Weatherspoons the chips the same and a very basic single burger, also a member of the public had there dog with them not a guide dog so i do not recommend this pub due to the expensive food and drink and that dogs allowed in, THIS IS A OVERPRICED WEATHERSPOONS in my opinion as weatherspoons i can get all day refills for £1.56 and the basic burger and chips approx £8.99.

Went at 6.30pm on Sunday (group of 6) and most food choices were out of stock! Ordered on webite from my phone so you pay in advance! Starters were OK but avoid over fried beer battered mushrooms. Roast chicken was extremely dry (on the bone) and again deep fried roasties. No mayonaise and no mint in the mojito all run out so was bitter! Kids running about. Brought cake out with sparklers when birday guest was not at the table!Management said lack of food was due to menu change but I booked well in advance. Best part was the cake which I brought from home! Extremely disappointing, go somewhere else real shame!

Update as you asked for more detail on my 1 star rating for atmosphere. Reason for 1 star on atmosphere, I arrived last night fairly late to find a guy being kicked and hit in the head by 2 other guys. Obviously all 3 had had too much to drink. 2 women also off their heads trying to get involved. One women started on some old guy who tried to help the bouncer so I had to get involved. Single bouncer couldn't really do much to hold them off the guy on the floor. It fizzled out after 5 mins or so and we then went inside but the atmosphere wasn't great so we didn't order a drink but instead just left. Been before many times before, especially around Xmas eve and it's always had a nice atmosphere when full, but it seems like a normal Friday night, not so good unfortunately. You have hardly any young people in the pub. I ask my kids why do they not go to The Crabtree and they said because its rough and just filled with middle aged drunks, and from what I saw last night they are right. Been a few times for food and general food and service is good. Thanks

The staff here are so friendly and hard working always eager to please and keep the place clean and well kept. Food always looks good. We enjoy drinks here and occasionally food. We wd recommend to others.

I had a 7 hour delay on a Stanstead arrival, I passed thru Hemel Hempstead to search for a good meal at a pub, nothing on the main drag so headed to old Hemel, asked someone who told me about this pub had had a refit, thank God I did, a lovely 3 course meal under £13.00 fantastic I will call again when collecting from Standstead again. Photos Tortilla starter, Mac cheese main, apple pie and ice cream, pud, great stuff, well worth a trip out.

Just figuring out how to order on the table with a QR code and how to open a bill on the table (it's best to just ask at the bar) but then the evening went well and the food was delicious and, above all, delicious Stella!!!!

Beautiful pub with a fantastic beer garden. Drink selection is pretty good too. Food was average though. Fine big portions but after eating in a few places in the area it really didnt stand out. I would still return though, staff were very pleasant.

It was a nice pub before, but has recently undergone an interior refurbishment. Still feels like a cosy family pub but didn't try any food on this visit. We have recently been back and tried some food. It was marvellous. I will be eating here again.

Popped in for an impromptu visit and get some food early Saturday evening. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was great, steak cooked to perfection. Curry was sublime. The chicken and gammon was as chewie as a wellie boot! Never had this before! Very disappointed with the food! Wasn't happy had go eat something else!

First time visiting the Crabtree. We go to other Ember inns, this was by far the best one! Staff were very friendly and nice. All food available on the menu, arrived quickly and was really good. Atmosphere in the pub was great. We will visit again!

Good all round pub, good parking and garden

We had bottomless brunch which was really nice. I had the vegetarian breakfast and the sausages were really tasty, my husband had the full English and he really liked it. The service was prompt and friendly… we bought our dog with us and he was given a bowl of water , lots of fuss and offered treats. The Crabtree is my favourite pub in Hemel Hempstead. We’ll be back again soon!

Myself and my friend had a great evening here for our Christmas get together . Food was lovely staff very attentive and good atmosphere.

Already posted but cannot see it. Nans 87th birthday lunch. Two people ordered the carbonara which was smothered in pepper and they couldn’t finish it. My Nan ordered a starter to come with the mains and along with mg main never appeared until I went to speak to staff. They arrived after everyone had finished. When I spoke to a member of staff I got a barely audible grunt then explained we didn’t want anything but to just give feedback I was told the only person who could do anything was behind the bar, NEVER again!!! Ruined our nans birhday lunch.

Visited with friends after a recommendation and we glad we went. Warm friendly welcome and a great selection of beers and good.

Waited 50 minutes between courses despite booking and even pre-ordering from the festive menu! No service whatsoever, I had to mention the wait to the staff, they didn’t notice. They did offer a free drink but then didn’t speak to us again after that really! Quite disappointing for a Christmas meal, food was nothing special at all.

The food was cooked to perfection, the service was great. Special requests could be dealt with better on booking. As I did mention that one of our party was in a wheelchair. The table allocated was in an area that was cramped.
