Popped in for dinner on a Saturday evening. Place looks great and barman was friendly. All our food was mediocre at best and we sent back X2 calamari as it was like rubber (so did table next to us). We were then presented with the bill, including the calamari and had to ask for it to be removed. Wouldn't eat here again.

A lovely find. By the river, though you can’t really see it. Lovely in the Summer for a drink in the garden.

Great place to stop, went for a lunch out and loved it. Staff were very friendly and easy to get along with. Food was great but my desert (cheesecake) was quite dry and the popcorn that came on top of it was certainly stale, but apart from that, it was superb would highly recommend everyone to visit.

Just ate the most amazing vegan burger. I'm not vegan but the description was so good I gave it a go. Forgot to take a photo of the food... I got so involved in tasting it I actually scoffed the lot... and I don't scoff food! My friend had a chicken burger... he also got carried away. I've been in England since March... eaten all over. THIS is the best I've had. Wow! Yummy! The chef really knows his stuff. Pesto...sundried tomato...beetroot falafel... fresh tomatoes, crispy lettuce. Yes! 5*****

Outstanding food and great service. First visit and very impressed. We tried the harissa butternut squash vegan feta filo parcel. Delicious and highly recommended! Our compliments to the chef.

I had a Chicken Katsu Curry and it was amazing. Service and atmosphere was great, would definitely go there again and would also recommend a visit.

The refurb has been a much needed improvement, but the outdoor seating area feels a bit disjointed from the test, and despite it being pretty quiet overall when we went, the bar was still messy.

Best pub toilet experience ever - decor, cleanliness, scents... brilliant! Also congrats on producing the greasiest vegetable burger known to man. 😂 It was very tasty otherwise.

This place has an identity crisis, 1/3rd is a pub, the rest pretends to be a fancy restaurant with whisky and wine glasses on every table. Shame that it's for storage as the few times we were in they went mostly unused. The food is "fine", but absolutely not worth the money. They seem to be understaffed, the barmans are taking orders at the tables, how about you pay your employees a fair salary instead of force charging for service that isn't even particularly good?

We stopped at this pub as we were on a canal boat holiday. I couldn’t believe some of the bad reviews as our experience was really nice. Lovely food, beautiful/cosy feel and really good service. I had the burger which I couldn’t fault it. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was spot on. Very happy customers and would definitely return if we were back in the area.

Great pub, really good food, slightly long wait for food, but a nice place to eat. We had a table inside, but will be back when the weather changes and we can eat outside!

Had a phenomenal Mother's day meal. The team were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Our server Lauren Wood was highly attentive and friendly Would recommend for a visit again!

What a great place to go absolutely fabulous staff

Such an attractive venue and location, however a recent experience was utterly underwhelming. The menu was dull, there were no specials. My partner and I had only discovered this place last year and it had been a joyful delight on each occasion, especially as a pescatarian it had offered so much choice and quality. Now it's just an average eating destination:(

I was expecting something really exceptional food wise based on everything else. People and service were amazing and the place itself is great. Sadly the roast (beef) I had was really underwhelming considering the price of £20. And the sticky toffee pudding was on par with something from a micro wave (ouch). Great place though and maybe just one bad meal, however, others commented theirs was average. Kids food looked great and they enjoyed.

First time visiting and had a great Roast. staff were attentive and there was a great atmosphere about the place. Will definitely be back!

Worst place I've been to lady so rude also as left no one on the floor to take payment so left money on table got in car 4 people came running out of the pub them screaming shouting in front of loads of people you've not paid your bill one person went in to check came back to say money was there no apologies or nothing never in my life have I've been so embarrassed

Stopped in for a coffee on a cold winter morning. Cosy and inviting. Might come back for food and will definitely stop by in the spring summer for the amazing outdoor area they have set up.

Please make sure food you’re serving is well cooked. I was there today at 4pm and ordered chocolate brownie, which seemed a little weird to me, even ma partner who tried it said it has a little sour taste and consistency felt a little undercooked. Anyway I had awful stomachache and diarrhoea after eating that and that was the only item on the menu I ordered and only thing I had in the last 4 hours.

Went pre Christmas to meet family, it was quiet but very festive and staff were welcoming and will go back in '24 to try the food.

Really want this place to be good but 3 disappointing trips mean I won't be going back....no vinegar, used ketchup pots delivered to table, bones found in pasta dishes, rock hard chips with no potato in - a huge disappointment and a stain on the oakman Inn name. Massive avoid

Very disappointed. They didn't have half of the options on the menu but that's to be expected at the end of the Christmas period. What I didn't expect though was: 1. Dried up fries with zero potato inside. Inedible. 2. No vinegar. Seriously, what pub runs out of vinegar? 3. One of those tiny pots brought out for ketchup. When I asked for more (because three of us had chips) the waitress firstly turned her back on me and walked off (she definitely heard me), and then she came back more than five mins later to inform us they had run out of ketchup 😂 Not sure why I was so bothered about ketchup in hindsight given the chips were inedible. This is our local pub. It looks beautiful but the service is not good and the food is hit and miss. Sadly I recommend avoiding.

We came for drinks, the staff were good but clearly overwhelmed with how busy the bar was. I hope they were paid overtime and the owners should try and hire more staff. They would make more money and from the guests perspective they would have a better experience. Unique plus point here was that they had lots of board games which we used and were great fun… we played Jenga 😂😂 Price wise it was reasonable. Food looked better than an average pub but we didn’t eat so couldn’t comment. Overall people make the experience in pubs and we had a good time with friends and played games. This place could be soo much better and a regular go too, with more staff, table service during busy periods, maybe some light touches background music and personal touches that make pubs great.

Driven & walked past a number of times. This was our first visit. Nice mixed atmosphere of bar and restaurant. Service good without being overbearing. Food good and well presented. Mains at around £17 to £20. Sandwiches etc. available as a snack. Good range of beers and wines. Large garden area for summer and several outside eating pods. We will lunch there again. Never been before, travelled for a family meal. Great food and drink choice, helpful and prompt service. If this was my local, I would be more than happy 😊.

One word.... superb on all fronts

Food was very good. On the more expensive side but was very good. Dog friendly in the bar and rear seating area. Fantastic warm fire on a cold day. Would recommend.

The atmosphere was the staff loudly shouting and dossing about around the bar, the service was non existent and food was ok.

Food promises a lot, but really failed to deliver. Staff having a bad day I think.

Lovely place , warm and welcoming , starters were well presented but lacked flavour. Mains again well presented but ended up finding a large piece of what appeared to be a stick in my main meal, which ended up lodged in the roof of my mouth , Manager apologised and explained that the chef thought it to be a stem of rosemary which shouldn't have got into the dish. Decided not to eat the rest of the meal and sent it back as I had lost appetite. A bit more attention to detail to seasoning and a bit more diligence when plating and it would be 5 star.

Beautiful setting and lovely pub. Food was severely disappointing. Bland is over praising it. However the waitress, Lauren was delightful and we may give it another go in case it was an “off day”.

Found this place by chance after visiting Tring. The pub is stunning and well kept. The service was very good. Kind and helpful. The food was gorgeous. Well presented, decent sized portions and piping hot. If I am in the area I would definitely return.

I held a gathering for my mums 65th birthday on friday. The whole experience was fantastic. Canapes were exceptional and all the staff were very friendly, genuine and professional. Thank you The Grand Junction Team. Highly recommended.

What's not to like. Amazingly good Fish & Chips (take the upsize option), super fast and friendly service, garden overlooking the canal. Great, just great.

I have passed here on the way to work so many times and had a reason to pop in after a walk nearby last weekend when it was unexpectedly hot. I feel that they may have been understaffed, as there were many open tables under the canopy but we were told we couldn’t take one without a booking and swiftly ignored - post lunch service). We were lucky enough to grab a bench but saw other couples sitting on the grass verge. A shame as the outdoor tables underneath the canopy only became more open as opposed to less… perhaps next year if you are at capacity you could seat in this area with the caveat of please order at the bar just by it? Would have solved the staffing issues and allowed you to take more covers perhaps. If I can convince him I’d like to return to try dine indoors as the setting was gorgeous. Our food was not as hot as I’d have covered (katsu chicken burger), but as mentioned it was a very busy day. Hope this feedback is useful as it really is a gorgeous location!

First time going back since it's been redone - lovely renovation with great spaces both inside and outside to dine. Nice to see they've added a children's play area and slide outside too. We had a Sunday roast which we were all really happy with - very flavorsome and good portion, one of the best I've had in a while. Service staff were lovely too - although it was very busy and they did seem stretched. Hopefully the management are making sure there are enough staff. We'd been a bit put off by some of the average reviews, but glad we went and will definitely be returning.

I had high expectations when booking this place, but was very disappointed. The service was shocking, the waiters were running around like headless chickens, and we stood no chance of ordering if we hadn't waived to the waiter ourselves. There was no eye contact with the people who were serving us. We had to waive multiple times and felt like we didn't exist. It's a pity because this pub is located in such a lovely spot. It looks like though, because they know that customers will continue to flow no matter what because of the location, they demonstrate minimum to 0 effort to keep service at a high level! The number of similar negative reviews is not a surprise at all!

Had a Sunday lunch after walking along the canel and speaking to the chef whom was setting up. We had the trio of meat, beef, pork and chicken, cooked to perfection, amazing roast potatoes. This was our first time here since it has been refurbished. Will most definitely return.

Food was okay here and the service kinda sucked coz it was a very busy weekend for them. But the location is simply super. Do visit for their beautiful outdoor.

We booked one of the oak pods for an early lunch on Saturday. The pod was perfect for 4 adults, 2 children and a dog and was lovely and warm even with the door and windows open. Jack, our waiter, was the most attentive and thoughtful waiter I think I have ever come across. We all enjoyed our meals. And one of the children was able to extract himself from the conversation of the adults to play football in the pub garden with some other children, which was also great. Recommend.

Me, my partner and child went two times to this gorgeous location ,from food that is so delightful to the manager franco who genuinely cares about customers and customer experience,we really recommend the place and will be back without hesitation. Alex&Miky

Nice food, service is quick and friendly with a good overall atmosphere. Outdoor seating is modern and cool looking.

Been twice for drinks in the garden and whilst it’s a lovely outside area the service is poor. One bartender knew the person she was serving so chatted to him for ages and then just walked away after serving him and ignored the fact there were 4 of us queuing at the bar. This isn’t the first time this has happened. Food is ok but very overpriced.

Great setting though a limited menu if you want to sit in the garden.

Very surprised from this visit. I had heard lots of negative things about the Grand Junction arms however my experience was incredible. I have eaten at many Oakman inns restaurants (Grand Junction buckingham, betsey wynne, the navigation inn, the akerman, the woburn) and this is probably one of my best experiences. As it was a very hot day it was very busy but this had no effect on service or standards. Lovely interior and exterior. Incredible food with great portions, definitely bigger than some of the other oakman sites. Great service from Harriet. Will be returning.

Had a lovely meal on an Indian summer’s evening! The food is all cooked fresh to order and was delicious and plentiful The server was amazing ( sorry didn’t get her name but she had a brown /blonde Bob )very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and super organised and observant which is rare these days We will be back ❤️

Beautiful idyllic place to have a Sunday dinner. Atmosphere is lovely by the canal, plenty of seating areas, we didn't book we walked along and took a chance. We ate outside. Food was outstanding, not your typical pub grub. I had a sublime Sunday roast, hubby had the curry which he said was absolutely beautiful. We often stop at pubs along the canal along that strip, this is one worth stopping off at.

We loved it last time but this time everything was a little off. It was really quiet - but honestly if you look at the prices you can understand why. £19 for chicken tenders with chips and coleslaw. Veggie options were a bit limited. My falafel burger came with quite a dry beetroot bun and a lot of hummus which kind of overwhelmed each bite with just chickpea everything (the plant based burger at the @thebellastonclinton absolutely walks all over it tbh and is cheaper too) and my other half’s burger (£18.50) was super greasy and the stuff under the burger was really burnt tasting. Friends who went the day before said their drinks sat in the sun for 20 minutes as their server said they weren’t old enough to serve them. However our super chic server was a little ray of sunshine, so that was something. It’s a gorgeous location but it should be packed out on a sunny evening and I think the menu has a lot to do with it, I’m afraid.

Waited an hour for 4 portions of chips for our kids that never arrived. Requested a refund, which is when their incompetence went up several levels. The 'management' didn't know how to refund me £20 for my chips. I got fed up waiting and left without my refund. Totally incompetent management that didn't deliver the food I paid for and wouldn't refund me either. ABSOLUTE CLOWNS. AVOID!

Rip off… £16.05 for a pint of IPA and a larger shandy… won’t be coming back here again!

Excellent experience with an evening meal. Parked the canal boat further down and walked up to have dinner. We had a dog with us which was not allowed in the restaurant area inside but was welcome in the outside seating area. There was plenty of cover and some heating too. Food was very good, however some of the group felt there was little on there for their tastes and the food is more on the expensive side. Somewhere for special occasions.

We were a party of 6 and had a 1230 booking. I called ahead the day before to book a table (staff member I spoke to was great) On entering the main building we were greeted and seated. There are three menus (main menu, specials, kids) A good variety of vegetarian options as well. I had the Cauliflower and chickpea curry pie. It was delicious and the accompanying veg was just to my liking (Al dente ) all meals came within a few minutes of each other and were piping hot. The service was exceptional and everyone was really attentive. Is this pub restaurant cheap ? No. Is it good value for money ? Yes Would I return ? Definitely It was a really enjoyable experience Many thanks Blake

Took a walk to here along the canal. It has a lovely outdoor bar/ terrace area with plenty of tables. The service was good and its a dog and kid friendly place. We didn't eat here, but the food that came past us was nice looking.

Visited a couple of times, great atmosphere, excellent outdoor area. Nice selection of food only drawback was that the scotch egg yolk was solid last visit... Prawn curry delicious though and if I remember rightly Asahi on tap!

We sat in the bar restaurant as we had our dog with us, which all staff were very welcoming for. Not a place to go for a quick meal, there was a long wait between getting our menus, then being able to take our orders. Despite being on a route from kitchen to other tables, we seemed almost forgotten. I had to go up to the bar to ask some staff to clear our table, even after this we seemed almost invisible. Service definitely needs some work, as the quantity of staff around the pub was certainly enough. A great shame as the first gentleman who took our order was able to do so with no pad, and our order was correct throughout. The food, all fairly reasonable, but nothing to write home about other than its price which is a little high for the quantity and quality of food. Plenty of parking, although the road you come off people dodrive very fast. Lots of outdoor tables that I'm sure would be fantastic in warmer sunnier days, as long as you don't mind ordering from the bar or carrying your own drinks.
