Visited The Greyhound in Brentwood today for lunch. Had a lovely steak pie. Nice warm and cozy atmosphere and service was good.

Had a nice meal at The Greyhound in Brentwood. Food was good, service was great and they allowed us to take our dog with which was such a bonus. Will definitely visit again.

We love coming here! Such lovely staff, great environment, Sophie is always great. We would recommend it for the service!

We love the hound and the staff, especially Sophie! Super efficient and friendly! The roaring fires in the winter, and beer garden in the summer are a win!

Booked a table for six adults , when reading the menu everything was cooked in garlic as I have an allergy to garlic asked the waitress if I could have my Sunday roast without the garlic but was told that was how it came even the gravy was cooked in garlic , whilst deciding what to eat the manager came over & said the chef would do some roast potatoes without the garlic which I was really pleased about , after a long wait the dinner arrived cold so asked if I cold have it warmed ( nothing worse than cold roast dinner ) . After another long wait I finally got my roast dinner without my Yorkshire pudding , so all in all not a good experience so won’t be going back , also found it very expensive & would not recommend.

Great food, great atmosphere and wonderful service from Rianna. We had the roast and the burger - very generous portions.

The service here was incredibly slow. As someone who has dietary requirements, I needed some additional information before choosing my meal. The waitress that served us asked me what I was thinking of having, that way she could tell me whether it was a suitable option. This was incredibly unhelpful and also added to the slow service as she continuously had to check my choice with the chef. Having allergens listed on the menu would be much more efficient in the future. Food was ok but we waited over 45 minutes for our mains -This seemed to be the case for every one else around the restaurant. My main was incredibly small with a large portion of bland rocket that covered the large space on the plate - no dressing or fresh salad.

We've been here a handful of times before and always had a great time and good food and once again you did not disappoint the evening was great the food was great and Evie our waitress was especially great she made the experience really memorable especially for my little boy even convincing him to try new vegetables that he previously has said he doesn't like but now likes them Thanks for a lovely evening

Its a good place to meet up and very big inside and out. Having never been here before i thought the decor was run down and needs a refurb. My menu had food smeared on it, which was changed. The staff were helpful and cheerful. The bins in the cubicles were overflowing and i couldn't use it and there was not a bin near the sinks. Food was standard and i would go again but maybe once it's not so grubby!

The single worst meal and service I have ever had in any restaurant, anywhere in the world. Spectacularly awful from beginning to end.

We absolutely love coming here when Emily is working, she is so welcoming, kind and very attentive! The food and service is always amazing!

Booked a table for Father's Day (set menu) but unfortunately was quite disappointed in our choice of venue. Drinks order was taken but my son's drink was forgotten so I told a waitress. Quite some time passed so I went up to the bar to see if it had been made (mocha) and was told it was being made then. Waited over 1/2 hour for our starters which were nothing special. Prawn cocktail was bland. I think prawns were in mayonnaise rather than marie rose sauce. Waited for plates to be cleared away. Then waited a further 1/2 hour for mains to arrive. By this time, our appetites had diminished. Roast dinners were average. Broccolli was rock hard, beef tough and roast potatoes dry. We asked for the bill before ordering our desserts as we were aware that this would probably take time being that we had waited so long for our food to arrive. We decided to have desserts takeaway but when bill was brought up, the waitress advised that our desserts would be extra and on a separate bill. The waitress couldnt grasp that we were having the set three course menu. The bill showed that we had paid for individual starters and mains rather than the set menu. We then declined desserts as it would have caused even more confusion with paying. We usually go to the Black Horse but thought we would have a change but unfortunately food quality/staff/atmosphere do not compare to the Black Horse. I appreciate that this was Father's Day and it was busy but I think more staff would have benefited. A real shame as was looking forward to our visit.

I have been here several times and thought it was time to write a review. I have eaten in 3 times and have always been served by Stacey who is an asset to the business. Overall the service and food where great andI would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would ask. Keep up the good work

Have eaten at The Greyhound a couple of times before and this visit was just as good. Staff were friendly on arrival and our server Rianna was attentive and helpful. We were a table of 8 and all our food came out together, was hot and tasty. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Greyhound.

We love the Greyhound. It’s relaxed, pooch friendly and the food is always great. Stacey is so welcoming and always goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect.

We visited The Greyhound today as our local Vintage Inn The Thatched House is closed for refurbishment. Emma our waitress was very pleasant, helpful and could not do enough to ensure we enjoyed our meal. The food was enjoyed by all members of our party and the ambience of the Greyhound delightful. I will recommend and attend again.

My wife and I called into the Greyhound on Saturday 4 May at around 5.30pm. We had had quite a stressful day because of family reasons. I wanted to give us a break before going home. The place looked nice and the staff were friendly. The food, however, was very, very poor. My wife had hunter's chicken which she said was very average. I had fish, chips and peas. It was tasteless. The fish comprised thick batter. So thick you could break a tooth. I didn't complain at the time, because we already had a tedious enough day and I didn't want to add to our woes. On this showing, most pub restaurants are far superior to this pub/restaurant. We will never go back...ever!

Excellent prompt service by Emily who was helpful, friendly and informative - her attention to detail was excellent and she was very cheerful. Drinks and Food was delivered timely and all very nicely presented - steaks cooked as requested. Venue was warm and welcoming. A lovely evening with friends I rushed.

We had celebrated a church opening together as a family. So we wanted to end the day with a meal together. We have often held family get togethers at The Greyhound Pub. The food is always delicious and varied.

We visited the Greyhound for lunch with friends on 10th April. We were served by Rianna who was very efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely pub and good food.

Not happy at all with our meals and the place needs a good clean. We sat near the window and the glass vases on the shelf were full of dust. I had the pork belly and said that I didn’t want the black pudding, I didn’t realise that it was a mash, I wasn’t offered an alternative. So I commented to the waitress that my meal looked sparse, luckily I had ordered a side order of Haloumi fries. There were only about 4 or 5 tables of people yet we waited nearly an hour for our meals.My guests sea bass looked awful thin and not appetising, my other guest asked for cream with his crumble and was told ‘we don’t’ have any cream. I love the location on the edge of the woods and was going to bring more friends there but unfortunately I will not be returning.

My wife and I had a wonderful afternoon at The Greyhound on Sunday 7th April. We booked for Sunday lunch and took our dog with us as we knew they are a dog friendly pub. From the moment we stepped into the venue we were instantly made to feel so welcome. We were so very well looked after during our visit by Gavin, he is such a lovely guy and nothing was too much trouble. Gavin was always on hand and not just with us, the area he was covering were all attended to with a professional, friendly & happy attitude. My wife and I both had roast beef Sunday lunches which were cooked to perfection. I'm partial to a pint of Guinness and can honestly say it was a lovely pint! Please try The Greyhound if you have never been, we have been several times in the past and have already booked to go again in May. Had a lovely catch up with friends today. Had a perfect lunch. We were served by Emma, where nothing was too much trouble. It was obvious that she loves her work. Very friendly and professional. Would highly recommend a visit. We will be back!

Visited the Greyhound on Saturday evening with family of 16! Our host /waitress Stacey was phenomenal, managing to cater to all our needs and was always on hand to take our drink orders, as well as reciting from memory all of our food choices!! The Manager and staff were all very friendly and accommodating, will definitely visit again!

Spur of the moment visit to The Greyhound. Was in the area and decided to visit after many, many years. Enjoyable atmosphere and decor. Service with a smile by Stacey was swift, efficient and helpful. Refreshing as lots of places we have visited we felt the staff lets restaurants down. Our food was very tasty. Meat pie was flavoursome, nice to have the fresh veg. Husband had seabass, he did wish he'd ordered additional veg side but it was flavoursome too.

Brilliant spot for a late lunch/early dinner, with excellent and attentive service from Zoe, and a relaxed and cosy atmosphere, plus they were very dog friendly with lots of fuss and attention from the staff!

The lunch at the Greyhound was very good and the food was lovely. The service was exemplary - Stacey was friendly, attentive and efficient, and she never stopped smiling! The four of us - plus the dog - thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

We gave up on the Greyhound several years ago as unfortunately the standards had gone right down!!! We were absolutely gutted as it was one of our favourite places to go!!!! HOWEVER since finding out it’s now under new management we decided to go back and try it and we certainly wasn’t disappointed!!! The food was lovely, I thoroughly enjoyed the sticky chicken and lamb rump roast! And we had amazing service from the wonderful Stacy she was friendly, efficient and professional! I’m so glad to be able to say this as we will certainly be coming back soon. So please keep the standards as they are and don’t let things slip back to how bad they got!!!! Really looking forward to our return visits ☺️

I've visited a lot since lockdown and have never been disappointed - today I took a couple of friends alongside our 3 toddlers - the kids all ate something different and we had some lovely sandwiches. I am a big fan of the Sunday roast normally so was nice to try something off the normal menu. As always staff were attentive and we were welcomed by Stacey who always makes an effort - to the point she's on first name terms with my son. (Not sure if this means we go too much). Thank you as always. Lovely meal.

on arrival no sign of any front of house staff, stood for a while, lots of people walked past us, bar staff on phones not looking up. Eventually I stopped someone and asked. Table booked for 4pm, had to wait a short while for the other table to leave and it be cleaned (no real problem) but then seated, close to fire but wasn’t warm we kept coats on. Ordered food, asked for kids meals to come with starters but they didn’t, massive gap between starter and main, was close to 2 hours when we had main. Not long before food came we were told turkey had run out so had to be chicken, when it came it was chargrilled chicken breast, not roast, food overall was cold- but kids were fed up so we just wanted to eat and get out. Won’t be returning

We went for Saturday lunch today as we hadn’t been to this pub for a few years. We were really pleased we did. Lovely cheerful Emma checked availability as we had not booked a table. We were shown a nice roomy table overlooking the garden. I chose the Signature burger & Hubbie chose the ribeye steak, both were delicious. Emma was very attentive, cheerful & helpful. We will definitely be back & Emma is an asset to The Greyhound!

Friendly helpful service led by Stacey. Well organised systems. Pre-paid meal to include service. Restaurant fully booked. Early sitting. Each course selected/ordered in advance. Drinks paid for separately at conclusion. Table nicely decorated, Xmas crackers etc. Good food, served at table promptly together with all the appropriate sauces. Leisurely nevertheless with plenty of time to chat/meet new members of our extended family. Would happily return next Christmas Day but family considerations mean it will be back to Cambridge in 2024. Enjoyed this outing. Nice to be waited on and be pampered.

First time at this place. Lovely historic pub, good beer and delicious home made food. A cosy, welcoming atmosphere on a cold December evening. I had the beef roast dinner which was delicious and my partner had the rump steak which he loved. Super fresh quality ingredients superbly cooked and served by friendly staff. We shared the home made Bakewell tart for pudding which was yummy. The pub only reopened on Friday with new owners so we were impressed.

Lovely meal served by Daisy who always goes above and beyond. Always polite and service with a smile. Will be returning Boxing Day for our Christmas lunch. Have a great Christmas to all the staff at the Greyhound.

We came for our Christmas work lunch which we gave a pre order for, we would just like to say that our food was amazing thank you to our chef Adam and our waitress Emma was outstanding it was extremely busy but she didn’t miss a beat, Emma was very friendly and nothing was to much trouble she is a real credit to your company, we would definitely recommend and will certainly be back. We went to Thw Greyhound to celebrate our Daughters 40th birthday. The staff were very helpful and friendly and our waitress was really lovely. Our food was exceptional. However it was a very cold evening outside when we git into the restaurant it was freezing. We asked if the heating was on? The Waitress assured us it was. There were a lot of people eating with their coats on. We decided to also put our coats on. This is unacceptable when you are having a meal somewhere.

We had an absolutely wonderful meal tonight on my step sons 18th birthday. It was our first visit and we were lucky to get to sit next to the roaring fire on this cold November night. The food was absolutely delicious everyone enjoyed their meals I would really recommend saving room for desert as the Honeypot and the Creme Brulé were divine (thanks Chef Matt). The only thing to outdo the food itself was the wonderful service by the lovely Emma. She was so welcoming and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend.

We had a lovely seat right by the fire, with excellent food which was served by the lovely Stacey, who was so helpful and brought a great atmosphere to the pub. Food was freshly cooked and delicious, and was cooked by Adam. 10/10 - would reccomend for any occasion!

Visited the greyhound tonight for a date night with my hubby. We have always enjoyed the greyhound in the past, but tonight was a big disappointment. Not only were quite a few things not available on the menu, but we were not informed of this when we sat down - and it was only when the waitress came to take our order that we were informed that starters we chose were not available and certain main courses didn't actually come with what was on the menu - like the salmon not coming with vine tomatoes but instead with about 3 carrots and 2 broccoli florets! The prawn cocktail (our 2nd choice) was disappointing with no flavour and hardly any sauce - and was overpriced for what was served!!We were also informed that my husband 's 2nd choice starter (the pate (his first choice) wasnt available) the mushrooms (the last of which!) had been dropped on the floor by the chef!! Salmon was OK but quite frankly, not as nice as I hoped. Ate it as it was still edible and I was hungry. We asked for the back doors to be closed after the last customers left or came inside and was told by our waitress that the doors had to remain open due to covid, yet when a table with young customers asked, one of the doors was closed and a few minutes later, the other was closed by the waiter on the front desk, booking people in!Miscommunication??After seeing how disappointed we were, it would have been nice to have been given one round of drinks that we ordered free as some kind of appeasement. It was a comedy of errors and we likened it to having a meal at Fawlty Towers!! Almost laughed when asked what button to press on the card machine if we wanted to leave a tip!! Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Charming, atmospheric country pub with open log fire (welcome this cold May). Peaceful country setting. Varied menu, prompt service, real ale, no background music.

Sorry to say but drinks took over 15 minutes to arrive,Our main meal was just about hot enough, would have preferred it to be hotter , our desert was cold that we had to return to the kitchen even the custard was cold .Really not good enough. !!!

So glad to be able to visit this local favourite, it seemed like a long lock down this time around with pubs/restaurants shut.Despite the weather not being as good as it was this time last year we decided to brave the elements and get our ski jackets onWe were warmly welcomed by the very professional Mo and team who made us feel as comfortable and well looked after as you can be when you’re freezing your plums off!!!We had the beef bourguinon which was just perfect.Can’t wait until the next stage of easing when we can go inside

Visited yesterday and the service was excellent... felt very covid safe (all staff wearing face masks and following precautions). The pizzas are delicious, clearly freshly made!Couldn’t be happier.

Thank you for absolutely making sure we were fine on our visit, team were amazing, food was perfect, we came for a friends birthday and we were not disappointed! Manager was extremely helpful, and was very attentive to all of his guest, very covid secure we all felt very safe and comfortable. I used to love this pub, lovely place nice enough food - you knew what you were getting. However, around 12-18 months ago a new front of house manager appeared - he’s called Mo. The first time we went there we had just become new parents and were taking our new baby out so we were pleased not to be cleaning up or cooking! We went in and immediately with him everything seemed a little more chaotic...and we didn’t like the way he spoke to his team. Our waitress was lovely and he just seemed to be telling her what to do even though she had already done things for us - she was great. We didn’t say anything, ate our food and thought it might be a one off. The second time we returned was after the first lockdown lifted. We decided we would support a pub we have gone to for a long time and went back to the Greyhound. We had the same waitress again who recognised us and made a nice fuss of our baby - she’s called Stacey and and is a great waitress. We noted that food had gone downhill a bit and once again this little man (Mo) was stomping around trying to fully control everything and making the whole dining experience unpleasant. Finally, we just returned for Sunday lunch after 2nd lockdown lifted. We were greeted again by Mo - who asked us on three separate occasions if we had check in (we had, and told him three times). We instantly knew we were in for the same experience. Thankfully our nice waitress was serving us again! (Thank you Stacey you always do a good job and this review isn’t aimed at you!) We were told that there were no Sunday roasts at all, and the menu only had 3 or 4 dishes due to reduced kitchen staff. Not ideal, but fine. Food arrived and was nice enough - however....Mo still managed to ruin lunch... our toddler was kicking off in his chair (as they do) so I got him out and took him off to walk around the grassy area at the back so he wouldn’t ruin the dining for others. As he was walking down the steps, he slowed and caused a c. 5 second delay (he’s got little legs). Mo rushes over and has a right whinge... the guy has zero customer service skills, zero talent, zero aptitude for running a pub. So to whoever reads this at Vintage Inns, a short statement.. Mo is the reason your pub is going downhill... either remind him of his duty to serve customers and make sure they are comfortable, or better still replace him. The hospitality industry has been hit hard by the pandemic, and we want to support you - but we will no longer bring you our custom whilst he is in charge. Get rid of him, and hire someone much more customer / business who has been unfortunate enough to be laid off through all of this. Better still, promote Stacey...

Well what can I say about this pub absolutely amazing. Beautiful garden with plenty of spacing in between seating. Guest greeted on entry to garden great knowledge of covid regulations. Staff are continuing to wear facemasks even though its outside which is great to see and made me feel extra safe. Although the staff have had so much time off they all came back and was professional and hardworking. They did not stop and all seemed to communicate and get on very well. Very friendly comfortable pub with amazing food( pizza was delicious) and staff. Will definitely be back.

Great quality food but food service was attrotious. Kitchen staff got my order wrong twice, my partners pizza came with the wrong toppings, ordered fries which did not come and when they did were stone cold and sauces were not given when requested. Will not be back.

We turned up at what was evidently a very busy time on Friday lunchtime with customers arriving continuously.It was evident that the Duty Manager, Mo, was pretty much running the place single handedly with little help - seating people, clearing tables, taking orders etc.I’m writing this review purely to recognise the guy and his professionalism because he simply ploughed on regardless trying to juggle multiple things whilst under huge pressure whilst trying hard to keep everyone happy. That’s not something you see very often these days.To the company: Hire more staff. And promote Mo.

We spent four wonderful hours yesterday enjoying a delicious lunch by the fire with new baby and small dog too. Nothing was too much trouble for Mo who was attentive and professional whilst also being very busy. All the food was attractively presented and cooked beautifully. Especial mention goes to the Banoffee Pie.

We decided to visit on thursday lunch time but we was disappointed with slow service , Wouldn’t recommend

Came here for a quiet dinner with my son, the place was not busy but nice and clean and food was delicious. Staff were very attentive and friendly, which was lovely these uncertain times. We were served by Donna, who was wonderful and very funny. Will definitely be back. Thank you Greyhound.
