A lovely bar with a great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the nachos and wine. However, watched the nachos delivered to the incorrect table, which were then taken back to the bar, and when I asked Jake what had happened to the order he did not admit the error. Instead, in an unapologetic manner, said the kitchen was very busy and we would have to wait. I didn’t see him smile for the duration of our visit. Other than that, a nice time

We found the food to be very good and for a Friday lunchtime in late October it wasn't busy. 2nd time we've been in a couple of months and quality and service consistently good.

Food not up to much at all, very little care going into it - think Iceland in a plate starters. Staff nice enough.

Not long come back from Sunday Lunch. Was a walk in due to an issue at the other pub we’d had booked and took a chance at walking in here. Was a brilliant meal and the Sunday Roast was lovely. Very filling had the Turkey and Lamb Roast. Look forward to returning.

Use this place to thrash out new business deals. Good place to come to and always a pleasant response from all members of staff. Would recommend to anyone just passing by or a regular.

Delicious food and good fast service too. I the peppered steak pie which was gorgeous. The meat tender and great flavour. Hubby had steak and kidney pud and he also thought that was great. for dessert I had a “to die for” Biscoff cheesecake which was delicious and very moreish! . Was our first visit but will definitely be going back soon

This place and all the staff within are amazing, I return to this pub all the time because of the warm and genuine welcome i receive every time. Not too many places left like this where you feel like an old friend as you walk through the door. Never seen a hint of tardy attitudes or under-par food. I take all my family and friends here at every opportunity. Thanks for many great memories and full bellies. 10 Stars if i could/

Can't fault the pub, staff are very attentive and nothing is too much for them to do. Been coming here for years and can only say it gets better with every visit (like a fine wine) Thanks to the pub for a lot of wonderful memories and laughs.

Visited the green man this weekend and I must say, I was very glad we came across this place. My son has a severe dairy intolerance, which makes me very anxious when eating out and the lady behind the bar put me at ease and assured me they take allergies very seriously. The food was delicious to say the least, I had the pork special and my husband has a pizza, he said it was the best he has had! Looking forward to coming back and celebrating our wedding anniversary in October

I can honestly say this was the worst meal I have ever had, the beef tasted like it was microwaved in a bag, the veg tasted like they were cooked in stale water or to be honest unexplainable, the Yorkshire pudding was flat crusty and burnt, roast potatoes have been reheated so many times and they were black, the whole meal had a very strange flavour.waited ages for the meal to come. the young waitress was lovely though

We all had a lovely time at The Green Man celebrating my birthday. The food and atmosphere were great. All the staff were happy and professional. Jack was our waiter for the majority of the night and was very attentive and nothing was too much to ask. We all had starters, mains and desserts and can honestly say everything was beautiful. I loved the little touches like my name on the table in scrabble letters and the hand writing thank you note on the bottom of the bill. Would highly recommend, can’t wait to return.

Food was nice but the dark haired barmaid was miserable and very rude, ordered a double vodka but had no vodka in when asked at bar just basically got ignored. The guy who served the food was very nice and friendly. Such a shame as was out celebrating and the atmosphere just ruined it

Birthday meal with my family, some of us are quite fussy but Shannon was absolutely lovely and very attentive. Nothing was too much to ask, delicious food, friendly staff, will definitely be back.

OMG the steak and mushroom in red wine sauce pie was AMAZING! It’s not often I can’t manage a pudding because the main course was so filling, but alas that’s what happened here! And the pudding menu includes cherry pie which as I walked in really took my fancy! We both had the pie but some of the other meals, the duck in particular was looking amazing as it came out of the kitchen. Couldn’t recommend enough if you’re in the area Defo stop in for a bite

How can you be barred before you have even ordered? Myself and two friends popped into the pub earlier tonight to have a couple of SOFT drinks only as we were all driving and to meet some of our other friends to watch the England game. The barmaid who is usually rather morose on a normal day immediately came over to us before we had even ordered and told us that she wouldn’t serve us and that we were barred! She gave no reason other than to say the manager had barred us, even though he/she was nowhere to be seen and we have never met them. This barmaid has always made us feel unwelcome in the past with no reason at all but we have always chosen to ignore her rudeness. This is our village pub and one where we have been on numerous occasions before with friends and family and have even produced our legitimate driving licences on request at times as proof of age and have been served? My friends and I felt humiliated for no reason at all and I strongly urge anyone to give this pub a wide berth if you want to spend your hard earned money somewhere warm and welcoming. Go to the Boars Head or Olde Dog where the reception, staff and atmosphere are ten times better.

Very nice atmosphere, food was OK, but the vegetables were undercooked, that was just a shame as everything else was lovely.

Disgusting food, almost inedible. Everything was dirty, service was awful and staff were extremely rude. Avoid at all costs, if i could give no stars I would.

Love this dog loving pub! They allow all dogs in the main pub area but not the restaurant part for those that don't want to be near dogs. Food is also very good, I recommend their pie and mash!

What a fantastic family meal for my daughter’s birthday! She chose the restaurant, one we had not visited previously and we were not disappointed. Brilliant service, friendly, relaxed but attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Food was tasty and plentiful, not one complaint from 11 people having starters and mains. The restaurant allowed us to bring a cake and provided side plates to eat it in the restaurant, which is becoming rare these days. Thank you for making this occasion memorable. We will be back!

Superb pub with large dining areas

Lovely atmosphere, old pub, nice food, but prawn cocktail is very small for the £9.50 price tag, a sml handful of leaves and a prawns, lucid in colour and tastless, sorry Green Man

I have visited the Green Man several times now, mainly for lia d or dinner, and each time I visit its gets better. The staff are all super friendly and nice (well most of them.. actually they are all nice). The food is also nice, and to a good standard, and hope to continue to visit the Green Man.. guys keep up the great work.

We had a reasonable meal, but the liver and chicken fillet were a bit dry, overcooked. The service itself was good but without any friendliness. The atmosphere was nice due to the customers, lively

Food and service were great. I had a pizza which was delicious and the other members of my party had the Sunday roasts which they said was amazing. The atmosphere was lovely and staff were great. Will definitely be coming here again and highly recommend.

Fine lunch for 5 people today at the Green Man in Herongate. The pork belly was particularly good. Generous portions compared to some places.The pub was full but the service was competent and helpful.

Great service and food from a great pub. We came mob handed with babies, kids, hangovers and nut allergies but they were just so accommodating. Food was really good, drinks great as always and the team were great.

It was the warm welcome from the lovely staff that we really appreciated from the minute we walked in. We were passing through Herrongate and thought the pub looked rather nice but were surprised at how lovely and cosy it was. We sat in the snug and there was a party of three ladies obviously enjoying their lunch next to us. My husband had the prawn penne which he said was delicious and I had the ploughmans which was so generous, I had to ask to take half home. The baguette was fresh which I always like and the ham thickly cut and delicious. We were well served by a charming young man and I highly recommend this establishment.

Beautiful country pub in a lovely setting. The Sunday lunch was excellent, staff are always friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this lovely pub.

Will definitely eat here again. Food was really good and great service. Took family who havent been to Brentwood before and they loved it. One of our favourite pubs anyway but will now regularly eat there too.

We were a large booked in for a family lunch on a Saturday. We hadnt realised that the table was on a 2 hour turnaround, usually for tables over 8 you get a little bit more time. The staff were absolutely brilliant and we ended up having the table for an extra hour which was great. This is were the positives end. The food was awful, a few of us had the steak and mushroom pie with mash (the special of the day). The mash was dry and lumpy and lacked any seasoning, vegetables over boiled and bland and the steak was like leather. Others had the ploughmans which they said was meh at best. Its a lovely pub and we were made to feel very welcome but the food was horrible....our bill was £400 which is a lot to spend on a bad meal

Great food and nice waitress but at 10 o’clock couldn’t wait to get rid of us and made our group of five feel really uncomfortable. This despite spending £180 with a tip. Will never eat here again and made to fell an inconvenience.

Booked this pub for dinner with some friends, there were 6 of us in total. None of us had been there before but we were looking forward to trying somewhere new. The staff were so lovely to us all, very attentive and friendly. As soon as we walked in they were there to sit us down and anything we asked for wasn’t too much. I would like to make a special thanks to the manager, Gary, who made us all feel extremely welcome and had a lovely chat with us at the bar after our meal. The food was delicious and they catered very well for my friends with allergies (nuts and gluten). We will definitely be returning - this is our new spot!

Visited this pub last night with a group of friends. I have been a few times before with the same Meetup group. The organiser had booked a table for eight people but had phoned up earlier to change the number to 7, But was told...

I have been eating at this venue for some years, but never had an experience like this before. The manager came to our table to discuss an issue with one of the meals, he became confrontational, used abusive and insulting language to a member of our group and refused to serve a drink to a friend who arrived later, citing the fact she was joining our table and wanted us all gone. He began pawing through the uneaten food saying there was nothing wrong with it. As he became more agitated as we tried to converse with him, I asked him to step away, as I felt the situation was becoming very volatile, but he continued to rant until his bar supervisor encouraged him to return to the bar area where he sat watching us. Next, he let his guard dog into the public area (I’m not sure if this was a tactic to remove us, but we are all dog lovers). Finally as we left, the rest of the team came to the front of the venue and were laughing and pointing at us as we made our way out. The food overall was reasonable, but the management was unprofessional, immature and juvenile. This team needs to be replaced at your earliest convenience Shepherd Neame!

Can not believe what I experienced at this pub tonite, group of 6 of us, mix up on booking, which was fine, we sat ordered food, long wait, worse to come! One of our table had valid complaint regarding their food, Manager came to table accompanied by waitress rolling her eyes! Manager so foul mouthed and extremely abusive! If he had been in any other job would be fired on the spot. I am still in shock that any manager would spk to a customer as he did, I think a rethink in staff would be in order. Have been here before an all been fine. Maybe management has changed definitely for the worse. Worse experience I have ever come across in customer service!

Had dinner on christmas day, a party of 20, amazing service and lovely food. Staff very courteous and attentive - nothing was too much trouble - even though we were a large party. Good food portions and great atmosphere Thank you everyone 😀

The Green Man is a lovely pub with friendly staff, but unfortunately, some of the meals weren't as good as they should have been. Although they catered for vegans with a soya allergy, and the three sausages were tasty, for £16+ we would have thought that fresh vegetables would be served, rather than soggy, frozen green beans and broccoli. Also, we couldn't have a coffee after our meal because the coffee maker had ceased to work, and we weren't offered even a cup of instant coffee.

Very disappointing Christmas Meal. I have coming here for around 8-10 years for our works Christmas dinner and other family occasions and have never had a bad meal until last night. We paid £40 for a 3 course meal which we had to leave £20...

Sunday roast was lovely and all clearly home made. One of the best compared to a number of other places we've been to in the area The staff were great and very attentive.

No meal ordered but I often pop in for the beer, my favourite, Spitfire and its good. Friendly staff, customers, friendly pub dog and my boxer dog is always welcome! It's got a large quiet beer garden as well.

Earlier today my Mum and I had the most fabulous roast dinner, fit for a king! Unfortunately Mum could not eat too much and was taken ill with a suspected heart attack. I just want to say thank you SO much to all the staff, especially the Manager who could not have been more supportive. Now at A & E but Mum seems fine! Thanks again.

Annie & Shannon, and the bar man gave us a nice warm welcome. Beer was good, and we then ordered food. Generous portions, and nicely cooked (skate wing). No room for dessert, so will have to return!

I really like this place. Food is always good and staff and locals are nice. The beer garden is lovely on a hot summer day. Would highly recommend giving it a try if you haven't been before

Not a great meal in honest. The chicken is not cooked properly. It wasn’t pink but was thoroughly slimy throughout. As if it had been boiled or something and then bung in the oven for a bit to brown it up. Wouldn’t come again. Barmaids were fine and polite so no complaints there

Lovely little pub staff are great

The food took a long time to come out... it was quite busy but as the rest of the table had finished their food 20min before our food came out, it just didn't feel right. Fish and chips and pizza to take so long? The garden was quite nice, plenty of seating. Waiting stuff very friendly.

Popped in for a lunch, atmosphere was a nice friendly country pub, good selection of beers, lunch consisting of patè starter followed by liver and mash, food was exceptional tasty and good portions, no long waits, friendly staff, the whole experience was enjoyable and reasonably priced, would recommend this pub time and time again. Stark contrast to the pub next door, they served terrible food

Feel free to go here if you would like to meet the rudest bar maid in Essex. Expect to be served with contempt and mardiness when they expect to pay you £20 for a burger! After a long walk with the family we decided to have dinner at the green man as it was such a nice evening so we ordered a drink and sat in the garden. When we went to order our food rather than hello we were welcomed with "table number?". I replied we are in the garden and the response was "no table number no order (or something to that effect). I sent my child running into the garden to get the table number. At that point the barmaid decided to serve others and I lost my place. My child came back saying there is no table number. The bar maid then asked "what table are you at? Is it the one by the pond?" I said yes. I was then told "well that's the only one without a table number" all I said was "oh right" and her snotty response was "well how am I meant to know you are on the only table without a number" I responded " well how am I ment to know I am at the only table without a table number either?". She looked at me and asked "well, what do you want?". I wanted nothing now. What a snotty moo. In fairness food looked great and all the other staff were lovely but unfortunately you have an entailed lead member of staff who is a total disgrace. If you are wondering what all the photos are then they are of other tables without a table number. You had better not sit on these as you will have the wrath of miss eyelashes to deal with. If you got to this point, well done. And if you want a happy ending we went to the Old Dog down the road and had a fantastic meal, that was much cheaper than the Green Man with super friendly staff. Please feel free to read my 5* review on that pub.

Luvlly battle crusier nice Location

I was very disappointed with the meal I had (5.30pm on a Sunday). Had the roast dinner (lamb). There were 4 slices of lamb but it was way over cooked and really tough (lamb should be tender and succulent). There was also Yorkshire Pudding (burnt and overcooked), sage and onion stuffing, overcooked roast potatoes that were not nice at all, veg was small bits of cauliflower with some small carrots and beans. Came with side of mint sauce. This is probably one of the worst pub meals I have ever had. I don’t normally write reviews but felt in this case I had to. Would not visit again.

Great lunch with lovely liver and bacon main course and an excellent freshly made large pizza. Well kept crystal clear cask ale. Pleasant, relaxed service. With a pint and a glass of wine before, and a classy £25 bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon with the meal, the total bill was a reasonable £70. Highly recommended. We will return to this pub.

Around a year ago the food changed here. Once our whole family would visit here regularly. After 2 disappointing family sunday meals we sadly found an alternative local restaurant. Today just myself and wife were working late and was passing, so we called to see if there were any tables. There was availability and thats not actually surprising. The lovely staff and pub itself is simply lovely. But the chef has changed and not for the better. Tell the chef that Lamb should be moist and slightly red at least. Not crispy and dry. Asparagus should be lightly cooked not sloppy and stringy. The best part of the meal on the specials board was the mint sauce. I hope thats not taken wrongly as i left the entire meal after one mouth. I cant say i would go back, but please seriously consider if the chef is keeping or loosing your custom.

Fantastic pub! Not very expensive and delicious food! The staff lovely and we stayed for the Quiz night and great atmosphere.
