Lovely warming bar and restaurant we popped in after a walk along the cliffs from Cromer. Stopped for a bit to eat. Great service, attentive, polite staff and tasty food.

Having been a resident in Overstrand for nearly three years we often find it impossible just to walk in and get a table in the bar area and hence we have swerved it quite a lot, the lady who used to be front of house waving around paper at me telling me we are full when clearly they were not was very off putting. Now onto this week thought we would try out luck, glad we did, nice young lady on entering I asked her if we could just go and sit at a table as not many people and she said of course, what a breath of fresh air! Long story short lovely meal duo of pork and a bottle of Rose, new manager at front of house very nice too, fingers crossed all being like this in future we will be regulars !

I enjoyed sea bass dish servied with Butternut squash and sage tortellini, baby leeks, samphire, beetroot puree, almond butter, wished there had been more beetroot puree and maybe some potatoes, somehow i missed the squash altogether. Followed with Blackcurrent Delice, a vegan dish, which consisted of blackcurrent with Soya anglaise, champagne sorbet, ginger sponge which was tastey although I did not taste ginger and there was hardly any of the soya anglaise. My friend went for nut roast from the carvery and was happy with that. The staff were attentive.

Celebrated my birthday at the Sea Marge with friends. It was perfect. We had the Winston Room which was beautifully presented. The cold buffet was excellent and the staff attentive. Everyone remarked as to what a wonderful evening it had been, one guest even asked if we could it all again next week! What more can I say, apart from thank you to all the staff who made it a perfect celebration.

Staying at the hotel so decided on first night to eat in the hotel knowing it was first night of opening Great starters, the pork belly was crispy and had a great fresh apple salad. The prawns were juicy and well put together Main was a fish pie which was excellent with the cheesy topping. My wife had the pie, which was disappointing as the beef was chewy. Just needed another 1 hour in the pan to soften. Veggies cooked perfectly I had rhe chocolate and raspberry tart - it so needed the raspberry ice cream to cut through the rich chocolate. So close to be fabulous

Food was ok and prices not unreasonable, but the service was just awful. Waited ages for our pre dinner drinks to be served in the bar. Then taken to our table and left with menus. No mention made of the specials. Twenty minutes later still waiting……Ordered food and a bottle of wine. Starters arrived and eaten. No sign of wine. They had forgotten to order it ! This is just poor. You have to get the basics right and I am unconvinced the food was unfrozen.

We stayed at the Sea Marge for 2 nights and also had dinner one evening in Frazers and wished we hadn't. The menu is far too large for the produce to be cooked in the kitchen. Prepared yes but our starters were definitely cooked from frozen and the mains were no better than average. The views from the room are quite nice out to the gardens and sea but we were stuck in a corner with no view at all even though there was seating more central that we had assumed was booked for others. It remained available all evening. We had dined at The Saracens Head the night before and thankful we did. Apart from providing burnt toast for Breakfast, the selection available was good and the full English was enjoyable. Maybe the current climate hasn't helped many of these establishments.

We were excited to come here. In the past, it was absolutely THE PLACE to come for really good food. The prices urge you to expect that standard. We had a veggie burger (choice for vegetarians is not great) which was not flavoursome and also crumbled apart easily. The others had steaks which were not well cooked. The chicken dish was just about okay. It was an absolute let down. Lots of things on the menu were unavailable, including our first choices of food. Staff breezed about as if on their own little missions and diners were an inconvenience to be endured. It was supposed to be a special occasion but turned out to be a damp squib in every way.

Saturday night dinner with girlfriends during our weekend away. Ordered the Lobster platter to share and two extra sides. First of all we were sat at our table in the bar, we had to ask for menus after half an hour! The woman ‘in charge’ seemed not to have a clue what was going on! We ordered our food. Our food arrived half an hour later, it looked unappetising and it tasted just as bad. Previously frozen and not fresh as stated on the menu, it may have been fresh a week ago or longer but certainly not fresh, it was so cold you knew it was defrosted. There was no taste at all (how’s that possible?!), the lobster was like ‘old boots’, prawns tasteless, whitebait standard. Truly awful to be served such rubbish when you are just metres from the sea. It really isn’t ok to serve such dreadful food and expect to get away with it! I complained, initially reduced our bill by £25, after complaint more they didn’t charge us for the platter. Staff seemed totally clueless and chef you need to do better, much better. Don’t go here if like me you have standards and want tasty delicious food.

I’ve been going there for many years and previously been quite good. This time we both ordered prawn cocktails which were extremely disappointing. Just the tiniest prawns we have ever seen on a bed of lettuce with sea island sauce, definitely not 4-star À la cart. My sirloin steak at £20.95 was tough and sinewy. Cannot fault the staff though, all very pleasant.

We booked as part of the eat out to help out offer and the menu looked good for all of our group. We sat in the garden area at 6pm and waited 20mins for our drink order to be taken. By the time we ordered food and it arrived it was nearly an hour later. We guessed they were busy BUT none of the 5 different members of staff that served us: - mentioned anything about a long wait for food - apologise for the wait - check on us during the meal to see if everything OK - ask if we wanted anything else to drink (went to the bar ourselves, quicker!!) - asked it we wanted any coffee etc at the end of our meal. The food was nice, as was the setting, but we would have been really cheesed off it we had paid the full amount for this meal as the service wasn’t up to scratch.

Table booked in the garden area. On entry pointed to our table, no one came to take our drink order or give us menus in 25 mins, my partner then went to the bar to order drinks another 15 mins later still noone until I went in to ask... We should have left at that point. Ordered food standard main dishes nothing extraordinary and 1 hour later no food had arrived now 9.15pm table booked for 7.45pm its dark and getting cool outside and noone knew when our food would be ready. No one checked on us at all. In the end we left and had to drive to Cromer to find anywhere that was open ended up in a kebab house!(which luckily was tasty) Very disappointed was the last night of our holiday! We understand times are challenging but don't over book if you can't cope.

We ate here last Sunday and had a fabulous carvery - the chef and the waitress were absolutely lovely. Husband and daughter and I all agreed it was the best carvery we have ever had!! As this was such a lovely meal this prompted us to book the small private dining room for a get together this saturday. There were 9 of us and one child. The whole party all agreed the room, food, staff and ambience were all outstanding. From the minute I spoke to Kirsty and Caroline to arrange this (my husband is terminally ill so very unique circumstances), they were so helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Our party ordered 10 different meals which all arrived at the same time, perfectly cooked and were wolfed down very appreciatively! we all had desserts which were equally lovely, and took our coffee in the lounge which is also a lovely place to sit and chat. The South African Manager (who we have dealt with before), is also lovely and very professional too. This place is just the right mix of elegant and special without being stuffy and making you feel like you have to stand on ceremony - I would heartily recommend this establishment to anyone, thank you all so much x

After four months and several emails requesting a reply to my complaint I'm still waiting!! There's no excuse for that especially as I've been taking friends and family to the Sea Marge for years because it's a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location. But I keep leaving it hungry and disappointed with mediocre, half-hearted or downright poor quality (yet pricey) food. The last occasion prompted me to write to the hotel with some friendly feedback. That was back in May and despite several requests for a response, I'm still waiting as of the end of August. It seems that Mackenzie hotels just don't care. So I'll take my friends, family and business to somewhere that does!

Nice rooms, helpful staff, but the bar snacks and breakfast were so ordinary, and well, what can one say. Hollandaise sauce is not a pond of butter lapping around the plate. An accompaniment of "mediterranean vegetables" could not/should not be hidden under the accompanying seeds, (yes seeds!)

Arriving in beautiful Overstrand on a Sunday night as holiday makers, limits your options for family feast time. Thankfully there’s this place. Much more appealing than its competitors, the bar menu here was perfect for our party of two plus 9 year old daughter. Delightful telephone manner when we called ahead to check; friendly, confident service from the young lady from Cardiff. Beautiful hotel from outside and some of the communal areas are lovely. The rooms were very hot and stuffy as only one of our windows could be opened. The menu was a bit fancy for me but maybe good for others. Could do with parasols on the garden terrace. Rooms were a little dated and uncoordinated with random artwork as if they put up any pictures they could find. Shame because some stunning artwork was on show in stairwells. The first night we booked a table in the hotel restaurant what a let down , My wife ordered the chicken and leak pie , the waiter said "we have run out of pastry for the pie but you could have it topped with mashed potato" ! Nothing much else on the menu , before we started the waiter apologised that several items on the starter menu were not available most was the fish and shellfish which left little else ! any way the "pie " arrived and surly enough it was topped with mashed potatoes, but also on the plate was yet another "dollop" of mash potatoes and two small slices of carrot !!! the chef did not have the imagination to substitute the side order of mash for more vegetables to give it a little variation and colour !!, one very bland meal with an overdose of mashed potato hence one ruined meal we did complain but they still charged us !!!. Also if you are going to book a room here make sure your ok being cut off from the rest of the world the couple of days we stayed we have no TV reception and absolutely NO phone service /signals the room was OK (room 16) and had a great sea view also the staff were very friendly and helpful but w won't be heading back there any time soon !!!

Had Sunday lunch here, as an alternative to the White Horse, which seems to be trying too hard with its menu, and I would suggest that the lady at the door needs some customer relations training. No welcome, when I asked a question she didn't raise her eyes to talk to me and carried on looking at the bookings list. Made me feel unwelcome from the start. Was told that the table wasn't ready so had to wait in the bar. When we were invited into the restaurant area it was already half full, so not quite sure why we had to wait for so long. We were given a glass of water from a jug but then the jug was taken away again. Isn't it better to leave the jug? The food was OK and cheaper then the White Horse. It could do with just a bit more customer focus and a bit more updating of the décor I would suggest.

Parking on site adequate. The hotel is an old listed building that looks impressive from 50 yards. The front door sports an AA 3 star sign, the reception desk a 4 stars sign. The interior fabric of the hotel is let down by poor attention to detail from decorators and contractors. Our Room smelt musty-the inside aspect of the door looked scruffy.Where hand towel rails and hooks had been replaced the previous holes are left unfilled. It looks lgrim where the walls met the bath . A corroded shower head , black on the inside looked off- putting. Despite requests the internet in the room never worked. The service details are not right .On our arrival in reception a trolley with used plates collected from diners was parked by the door-possibly awaiting a score card.Assistance with luggage up to our room seemed unlikely. On the plus side there Is a lift.It is reassuring that you can book a room that a dog hasn't had first refusal. The Bar felt chaotic.Folks with dogs had their meals there. We were given flat prosecco from a little screw cap bottle. Staff there clearly would benefit from some training. The Dining room was refreshingly better. The decor was fresh. We were seated by the door as clearly we had not graduated to one of better tables even though the room never was full..Apart from being a little windy and on the main route in and out of the room the food was ok - uninspired.(Brocolli and onion thick soup, seabass with leeks ,ice cream.)There was a reasonable choice on the a la carte menu. The cliff walk, the promenade and the sea-view from the room were positive assets.Oliver (?) our waiter was pleasant and helpful and served our cooked breakfast which was adequate. It would need a shake up in all departments before we would return.

Visited on the recommendation of a colleague, we thought it a good way to fill a wet, miserable day by taking afternoon tea. The inside is beautifully constructed with late 19th/early 20th Century Arts & Crafts style wood and furniture. As far as the sandwiches and cakes are concerned, frankly there was nothing to complain about. Very good in fact. The problem was the half-hearted service and apparent lack of range of teas. We were given breakfast tea that had either been made with warm, not boiling water, an unwarmed pot or both. Cheerless, weak tasting and not up to scratch. On mentioning a range of teas might add to the experience when paying (an otherwise reasonable bill), I was told several were available. Maybe so but they weren't offered. That's not what this hotel should be doing. Hopefully an isolated incident but I do wonder. Someone needs to pull their socks up.

My favourite place disappoints. Eaten here twice in the last few weeks and noticed standards have slipped. I hope this is only temporary as have been exceptionally happy for the last 11 years we have been eating here. To be told at 3 minutes past 6 that we were too late to order the 2 meals for £14 after we had been waiting 10 minutes to be served was a bad judgement. Also to be refused a further drink on the terrace with our meal because we had already settled our bill is not good customer service. We hadnt booked our carvery but were led to believe we could eat in the bar when we arrived. We were greeted by a most unhelpful girl, who didnt think we could have a table outside, all very odd as there were plenty of tables. No one seemed to know what was happening, food seemed to be ordered by a Chinese whispers system! We ordered and paid for our food, were sent to our table to wait for someone to collect us. We were hungry, but there appeared to be no system, no communication, and finally after half an hour or so we were escorted to the carvery. There was a lot of meat including very rare beef, the veg selection was broccoli and cheese, carrots and red cabbage, some cubes of roasted root veg and roast potatoes. It sounds nice doesnt it. Well by the time we had carried our cold plates back outside the food was really cold. We wondered whether to complain, but we felt no one was really bothered, no one asked how our food was, and so we decided we would just leave and put it down to experience. Horribly disappointing as the hotel is in a glorious setting. Service and food should be much better for the price.

Lovely building, well kept grounds, polite staff, great location. Room is spotless and the decor is tasteful. A generous breakfast, although a strange hybrid of buffet and a la carte (not sure why). Only gripe, the wifi is rubbish. Otherwise, great place.

Booked early in the week for the following Sunday cavery. There was a fixed price for 1,2 or 3 courses. We arrived dead on time and asked whether we would like to go to the bar first or straight to the table. Decided to go straight to the table and were escorted to a pleasant room with low level ambience music. The spacing between the tables was fine so as to talk to one another in comfort without listening in to other conversations or being heard yourself.A waitress come over and filled our glasses with tap water and was soon followed by a bread offering and another waiter with the food and drink order requirement. The soup I ordered was hot and very tasty (wild mushroom). My partner had chicken and pork terrine and again was well received. The organisation was excellent in that we were informed that before we went upto the carvery station the waitor would check with the chef if he was ready to receive us. This is a welcome change to other caveries where a queue had formed or certain vegetables/gravy needed to be replenished. The meat and vegetables were well prepared and most enjoyable. Coffee to follow was included in the total price for drinks and the two courses. Would recommend and will visit once more when in the area to enjoy the extensive menu or the cavery. The gardens looked very nice to enjoy a drink whilst looking coastward.

This splendid building with links to Sir Winston Churchill sits in Overstrand and is a traditional olde type English Hotel. Full of History and with plenty of space it soaks up the local atmosphere. It was expected that the afternoon tea would be similar. However I was disappointed with the food, the scones were hard and cold and not very appetising, which spoilt the day. The grounds are superb, and the decor is excellent. Shame about the scones

In a lovely position, some rooms with a sea view, this hotel somewhat retains the atmosphere of a residential home. We expected Basil Fawlty to appear at any moment.

We enjoyed the lovely position overlooking the sea. The staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. I chose the fish and chips which was tasteless, a tip for the chef.... Use beer in the batter, season it well and use tasty fish. Pollock is only good for fish pie!!! My husband chose the beef burger and found the burger stringy and again low in taste! We have enjoyed meals here before so hope for better luck next time. Denise

We had the cream tea for an anniversary treat. It was disappointing. The scones were very burnt. Sandwiches had little filling. The food just looked like it had been thrown on the plates. Such a shame because the hotel is lovely & the staff were lovely too. Please IMPROVE your cream tea's & maybe we will return.

Read my review of the hotel to get the gist of the Restaurant review.. It was Much Better a few years back. Service at dinner needs attention, more attention to customer needs. Menu needs an overhaul to make it look like a fine dining experience. Wi-Fi needs to be fixed so that the customer can pay for the meal while seated at dinner.

Lured in by the bill board outside advertising 2 meals for £14 which gave no indication of when this was available. Nevertheless we stayed and had 2 main courses, extra portion of chips, 2 pints and half cider all for £33.

3 friends and I enjoyed lunch in the garden after a tiring walk. The sun shone, the food we all chose was delicious. One friend chose a vegetarian dish and said it had been excellent and very tasty, the goats cheese and warm bacon salad was well presented and enjoyed by two of us while the fourth person chose gammon egg and chips. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They do a weekday lunch time deal of two main meals for £14 which is amazing. I shall be there again

What character and charm this hotel has. We stayed 2 nights in The Lookout Suite. A wonderful view over the beautiful landscaped gardens out to sea. Ate in the restaurant both nights, the al a carte menu changed every night, you could stay for a month and have something different each night. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

Booked in for dinner with our children on Saturday night - staff couldn't have been more helpful and food was good. Historic building with beautiful grounds, garden games and secret path down to beach. Slightly older clientele but didn't bother us and would definitely return.

We booked this hotel for a two night stay in the Cromer Area just to relax and look around. We booked on a dinner bed and breakfast basis however the dinner was booked as an extra via a gastro pub experience voucher,The hotel was great, full of charm and character. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Our room was very spacious especially the newly fitted bathroom. The bed was kingsize, extremely comfortable, feather pillows and Egyptian cotton sheets made for a lovely nights sleep. The breakfast was very comprehensive including the full English which was beautifully cooked,The gastro pub experience voucher entitled us to a 6 course fine dining experience which I must say was superb,The quality of the food was outstanding, every course perfectly prepared, full of flavour and of Michelin star quality. The hotel itself overlooks the sea with wonderful walks along the cliffs, along the beach and around the village,A truly wonderful stay and lovely experience, lots to do and see locally especially the north Norfolk steam railway.Highly recommended, we will definitely book again,Mr & Mrs Measom room 9 (24-25th May)

Impromptu night away turned into two thanks to this delightful hotel.Yes it's a bit tired in places but it makes up for that in character and superb service. The room (15) wasn't big but well proportioned our second room ( 62- we had to move rooms due to deciding to stay an additional night ) was very small but both very clean with fab showers.Breakfast was beautiful in a sunny dining room and a great choice- English breakfast great quality and kippers to Die for.We had fish and chips in the garden one of the evenings over looking the sea and they were delightful - beautifully served and delicious.Service fabulous, gardens beautiful and we will definitely be returning

We had a ruby wedding anniversary afternoon tea for eight people. We had a small room overlooking the garden and the sea. The building has a great character and history. Tea was served with sandwiches, cakes and scones. Presentation was excellent and the price was very reasonable. Quality of the food was very good and plentiful. Service was of a high standard. We really enjoyed the event and would thoroughly recommend.

Whilst out for an afternoon walk, we stopped at the SeaMarge hotel for a drink. The staff were very friendly and the location was both unusual and inviting. Later the same evening we returned to the hotel with a view to eating there. The bar was busy but the staff went out of there way to accommodate us in the lounge and a tasty meal was enjoyed by all. A great place to eat with superb service.

Set front on to a lovely leafy avenue, the amazing part of this old fashioned hotel is that it backs onto a wonderful sea view. 'Old fashioned' is a compliment here as the hotel complements the old world feeling of the north Norfolk coast with good food, decent rooms of a good size and the most amazing staff..............could not recommend it more highly.

This was our first stay at the Sea Marge, and we were delighted with our DB&B weekend stay. Our two dogs were welcome, and we were allocated The Cottage, a self contained bedroom, bathroom and sitting room opening onto an enclosed and private lawn area which was perfect to let the dogs out on.The food and service was exemplary, and the included dinner discount was suitable for the table d'hote menu. Drinks were reasonably priced. The bar was a delight to end the evening in, with log burner and a good choice of nightcaps.Well worth a visit, if only for high tea - which looked splendid!

We stayed at the Seamarge on Friday night for an overnight stay with my husband's parents. Check in was easy and the receptionist was really friendly and helpful. We found our rooms and were all extremely happy. The bedrooms are lovely and warm with a massive bed and stunning bathroom with a really big shower. We had our dog with us and she was really well catered for with her own towel, blanket and bowl in the room - she was really happy!!The hotel itself is beautiful and really well maintained. As we had the dog we didn't visit the restaurant but did have a sneaky peak inside and and it looked lovely. We ate in the bar which was so lovely and cosy with a massive log burner making it relaxing and lovely and warm. The food itself was a little over priced but what we had was nice. I wish we had had timefor the afternoon tea because that looked absolutely fabulous. We will definitely be back to the Seamarge. We had a lovely relaxing couple of days in a lovely warm, cosy, welcoming hotel.

Didn't have any food here so can't comment, Had a couple of drinks prices a little expensive but service was good and friendly There's mooring outside which is £10 but £5 redeamable if you order food. Would recommend this pub especially if you boating

Not a lot of choice, too fancy food not cooked brilliantly, over priced. The pub needs to serve more traditional pub fare. Service not great, we were forgotten about on numerous occasions during our sitting.

We know this part of Norfolk very well as a holiday spot. We have been coming to the Victoria on and off for years. It is now a hotel that serves lunch and dinner NOT a pub. We booked Sunday dinner and I was happy to find that despite an 8pm. table there was still roast beef available. It was delicious 😋! Good portion of medium rare sirloin accompanied by crispy roast potatoes, a fine Yorkshire pudding, a good assortment of vegetables and cauliflower cheese. A few years back I rated a bunch of places local to home and I think the Victoria would have only been beaten by Cliveden We did have room for pudding and thank goodness we did. The rice pudding was spectacular! Unusual but inspirational flavours. The staff were happy and attentive. We took our well behaved dog and saw a couple of others in the restaurant. We chose to come here as it’s dog friendly. Perhaps ask for a quiet table if you’d prefer not to be around dogs when you eat. Overall highly recommended and excellent value. Thanks all.

Wow what a find. the best place to eat for miles around if you have dogs with you as it is very dog friendly. We went for Sunday lunch and sat out on the covered terrace next to the lovely garden. There was a choice of 4 roast meats and a vegetarian option. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The cost was also very reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The whole place has a lovely atmosphere.
