After our Sunday morning swim, we always need breakfast! We usually have breakfast in Cromer as it’s on our way home to Northrepps.
This morning we decided to have breakfast at the corner house tea room for a change and WOW! What a lovely surprise and experience. First impression was great, our young waitress was lovely, very engaging and bursting with enthusiasm, made us feel valued and very much at home. Fast service and so friendly. It felt very professional, fast flowing and free moving…… busy with a smooth turnover of customers. The breakfast was cooked exactly how I requested and, we left with full bellies 🤣
No panic, dramas or stress. My new favourite place, sincere thanks.
Lovely coffee
Friendly staff
Excellent choice of delicious looking cakes- which I managed to resist! but enjoyed the chocolate that came with the coffee
Our second visit and will return on the next visit to Holt.
Toilets available.
One of the best breakfasts we have ever eaten. Good portions. Quality ingredients and freshly prepared to order - piping hot. Friendly family run restaurant with great service.
This is a very special hotel indeed. Kept, by its exuberant owner, in 1920’s style in homage to Agatha Christie who used to stay there. Full of old pictures and bits and bobs. Our bedroom ( medium size) was very comfortable with fun roll top bath but has modern amenities as well. But was next to the kitchen extractor fan which was noisy until 11 pm
All the staff, mainly young people, were outstandingly helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and it was the type of service I haven’t seen for many years. Well done.
It is also highly popular , and full the nights we were there. Largely I suspect because of the combined dinner, bed and breakfast offerings. At very good value for money.
The food was generally delicious and fresh. Duck, halibut, sea trout and the local crab and lobsters were outstanding but the “locally caught king prawns which, like the lobster, were landed today “ were obviously frozen as were tasteless and they ( king prawns) don’t live in UK waters. That was the only disappointment on the menu, which I wouldn’t have mentioned except they had been really hyped up by the enthusiastic person I assume was the owner.
Good well chosen wine list and fine cocktails
The reason I haven’t given five stars is with the regimented way guests eat. Severe set 25 minute table timings for breakfast and dinner. I do understand that the kitchen needs to be paced to cook such good food to order, but the timings on offer were not good for many of the customers. By the time we arrived to check in at 3pm after a long drive we had to settle for a 6.30 supper and 9.15 breakfast. The next day breakfast wasn’t available until 9.30 … hopeless for anyone who works or has to leave earlier.. and I overheard two couples saying their 6.30pm slot was far too early for dinner , but that was all that was left because the best table times had already been given to people from outside who had booked in for a meal.
You are asked to go to the bar half an hour before your meal where you receive some underwhelming amuse bouche and are expected to buy a drink whilst perusing the menu. This is to help the chef timings but also allows for tables to be turned over and reset. The last day we were there the small bar was over crowded and we had to wait an hour to be shown our table. Service was then very slow. I just couldn’t eat rich food at 9pm having waited by then two and a half hours. So because I prefer more personalised service and eating at a time that suits my stomach, and I like to be sat at my table and not held in a “ holding pen” this is not an experience I personally wish to experience again.
Having said that I realise that this hotel really does suit many of its guests, who really loved it. So it’s only my own opinion and I suspect I’m in a very small minority
Nice Pub both inside and out. Friendly and nice staff. The food we had was kept frozen and all microwaved. You get lots of it but its average at best. A shame as we were hoping for homemade fresh food.
I was on holiday by Cromer and thought we’d give this cafe a try as we had our shih tzu (yogi) with us and didn’t want to leave him out of the holiday!! This place is lovely and had a great atmosphere all around the restaurant. I was very impressed with the gorgeous decorations around the restaurant. You can definitely tell that the staff are very experienced in what they do as well as they looked after yogi very well and had a very positive attitude towards customers! Hope I’ll visit again sometime! Thank you! 🐶💕
LOVED IT!
We walked from the gym (NR12 Fitness) to visit them after we had peeked in the window the day before when they were closed. But we liked the look of it so we came back, and were so very glad that we did. It's a small spot and easy to miss if you're in a hurry. But it legit feels cozy versus cramped. Like a Tardis almost. ;-)
It was a cold, blustery Norfolk day near Christmas, so I created a bit of a stir when I walked in still wearing my gym shorts. Bad planning on my part, but the outdoor seating area, which is covered with plenty of heaters, was plenty warm and inviting to heat my legs.
The two women who were there (the owners? -- I sadly did not ask but should have) were absolutely lovely. And while the menu isn't extensive, it has plenty to choose from. I had a bacon doorstop, and have not stopped thinking about the perfectly cooked fried egg soaking into that thick but light and fluffy white bread with the bacon to tie it all together.
PLUS THERE IS CAKE! We took a slice of Victoria Sponge to go, which did not disappoint. They had other things as well but you'll have to check the photos from other reviews to see what others have enjoyed.
Sadly, it was their last day for the season when we visited, but we'll be back in the summer, and will definitely see them again.
You should too!
Birthday treat from the wife...and what a treat....the food was truly amazing...the aromas coming out from the open kitchen simply mouthwatering...the first time we gave been here....and if I had my way...be there every week....well worth a visit...fantastic evening....well done and thznk you....see you very soon.
We were delighted to know the restaurant was open for lunch and booked a table for us as we were staying at the hotel but invited a local friend to join us for lunch. Great welcome and enjoyed pre lunch drinks in the lovely and comfortable lounge. Lunch was great and there was plenty of food with lots of vegetables, all hot and fresh. The kitchen is open and you can see in from the restaurant which is reassuring. Excellent choice of wines and drinks. We were able to return to the lounge after lunch and continue enjoying more drinks. The team are well organised, polite, friendly and very helpful. The service could not have been better. A huge thank you to Sally, Joanna, Sophie and the rest of the team. Well done - can't wait to come back but don't want to wait another year!! Sal Jones
Only Stubbys could pull off a Big Mak pizza! Absolutely delicious! The best pizzas and flavour combinations I’ve ever had. Service always friendly and efficient. Soundtrack ALWAYS spot on! No bookings at lunch, you need to get there early. One of our favourite dining spots in North Norfolk.
Chose Oh Crumbs purely at random. Good choice - very tasty Cromer Crab sandwiches on brown. They have a serving hatch off the pavement a few yards from the River Burke bridge approach. Placed order through window, waited a few minutes then order arrived. Went and ate on a bench by the bird feeding area next to the bridge. Would recommend.
What a gem. On the Rebellion Way bike route, we had coffee and cake each day (obvs) and this place provided the best of both during 5 days/ coffee stops in Norfolk.
Great service too.
We came upon this little gem and had a luscious hot chocolate and tasty sandwich/sausage roll, all at a great price and in a unique setting. Highly recommended.
