This is a very special hotel indeed. Kept, by its exuberant owner, in 1920’s style in homage to Agatha Christie who used to stay there. Full of old pictures and bits and bobs. Our bedroom ( medium size) was very comfortable with fun roll top bath but has modern amenities as well. But was next to the kitchen extractor fan which was noisy until 11 pm All the staff, mainly young people, were outstandingly helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and it was the type of service I haven’t seen for many years. Well done. It is also highly popular , and full the nights we were there. Largely I suspect because of the combined dinner, bed and breakfast offerings. At very good value for money. The food was generally delicious and fresh. Duck, halibut, sea trout and the local crab and lobsters were outstanding but the “locally caught king prawns which, like the lobster, were landed today “ were obviously frozen as were tasteless and they ( king prawns) don’t live in UK waters. That was the only disappointment on the menu, which I wouldn’t have mentioned except they had been really hyped up by the enthusiastic person I assume was the owner. Good well chosen wine list and fine cocktails The reason I haven’t given five stars is with the regimented way guests eat. Severe set 25 minute table timings for breakfast and dinner. I do understand that the kitchen needs to be paced to cook such good food to order, but the timings on offer were not good for many of the customers. By the time we arrived to check in at 3pm after a long drive we had to settle for a 6.30 supper and 9.15 breakfast. The next day breakfast wasn’t available until 9.30 … hopeless for anyone who works or has to leave earlier.. and I overheard two couples saying their 6.30pm slot was far too early for dinner , but that was all that was left because the best table times had already been given to people from outside who had booked in for a meal. You are asked to go to the bar half an hour before your meal where you receive some underwhelming amuse bouche and are expected to buy a drink whilst perusing the menu. This is to help the chef timings but also allows for tables to be turned over and reset. The last day we were there the small bar was over crowded and we had to wait an hour to be shown our table. Service was then very slow. I just couldn’t eat rich food at 9pm having waited by then two and a half hours. So because I prefer more personalised service and eating at a time that suits my stomach, and I like to be sat at my table and not held in a “ holding pen” this is not an experience I personally wish to experience again. Having said that I realise that this hotel really does suit many of its guests, who really loved it. So it’s only my own opinion and I suspect I’m in a very small minority

Thank you to the Beechwood Hotel and fantastic staff for making Linda's birthday and our wedding lunch with our good friends really special. We even had a table in the beautiful Agatha Chisty lounge. Fabulous lunch with excellent food and a surprise birthday cake from the management complete with spectacular firework fountain. Highly recommend this superb Hotel. Paul & Linda Hiatt.

Some friends were re-visiting this hotel and invited us to join them. I am so glad that we did. The art deco style is beautifully kept up. It is spotlessly clean and the staff were beyond attentive and helpful. A special mention for Kyra who is new to the hotel business but was born for it. The owner bent over backwards to accommodate our quite specific dietary requirements and the food was absolutely amazing. I really can’t find anything negative to say about this hotel. If you fancy a break in Norfolk, give it a try You won’t be sorry. We had a fantastic mini break

Wowed us again! The rooms are huge and lovely. The bathroom was lovely too. They have a very nice garden so if the weather is nice you can sit outside with a coffee or tea and admire. Lots of cosy nooks to sit in and the staff are wonderful, especially Rachel at front of house. A scone with cream and jam on arrival and before dinner, a lovely drink and some amuse bouche in the lounge whilst you peruse the menu. The restaurant is exactly what it says it is: truly fine dining. The food is superb and the service is high quality. What a find!

We had a special deal to stay at the lovely Beechwood Hotel to meet friends. The friendliness of the staff and owners is outstanding and they cannot do enough to please you. In our deal we had cream tea, 4 course dinner & breakfast. The scones were warm & sooo delicious (even my gf scone was yummy), homemade jam and clotted cream. We all chose the same meal apart from dessert, we started with little appetisers, then veloute, starter was a dressed Cromer crab served in its shell, main meal was lemon sole, then dessert. I cannot say how delicious the food was, it was outstanding. Breakfast is yet to come but I wanted to write this review as we were all so impressed with the staff and owners friendliness and the standard of the food and the rooms. We had a tour of the rooms when we arrived and the owner took our cases to our rooms for us while we had the tour. We had the biggest four poster bed I have seen. Overall experience 5* plus. Definitely recommend this place and we will be back I’m sure.

A group of us went for the pre Christmas menu lunch at the Beechwood restaurant. We had been for this lunch for several years, and had enjoyable meals and service. Sadly this meal left a lot to be desired. Very expensive for a very average meal. The roast potatoes and parsnips were not crispy, and drenched in luke warm gravy. Rest of the meal was luke warm, too. We were given carrot and leek 'veloute; with nutmeg crumb; it was soup, without the crumb. The chocolates that came after the meal were soft and melting. Before the meal we had a drink from the bar, and were offered some limp circles of cucumber, topped with lump of cooked mushroom, to accompany.

Food was very nice but the prices of the wine (bottle) and single whiskey was surprisingly high! They sell the wine, we purchased for meal, online from their own website for £10 but increase the price to £29.95 at the table! i understand a mark up on a bottle of wine but that is unacceptable. Will not return for this reason.

It’s a beautiful building, the staff are wonderful and super friendly, made a refreshing change. The cons … dated inside, I love the 30s style but this needed a facelift. The restaurant had a huge bowl of flowers on a solo table, dark table cloths and somber music played on piano, it could have all worked but we felt we were at a wake.. the food was ok, but not worth the prices to be honest.

We picked the Beechwood for our wedding anniversary meal and were not disappointed with the whole experience. From getting there to leaving nothing could be faulted. The food was uniformly excellent, and service was too. We had the three course menu, and had their special of Pheasant breast for main course, which was delicious. We will be back.

My wife and I last stayed at the Beechwood Hotel some 8 years ago under previous ownership so we knew we would be staying in a very prestigious looking building with large beautiful grounds and a long history of famous guests. From the moment of our arrival we appreciated the numerous, tasteful and expensive improvements made by the current owners. The whole hotel is absolutely immaculate. Every area is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated throughout in high class Art Deco furniture, mirrors and art work; the theme even extended to the superbly covered menus. We stayed for afternoon cream tea served on the lawn, a four course dinner cooked to perfection by a team of four top chefs and a superb tummy stretching breakfast. I must add the food, all locally sourced, is of the finest quality and portion size is generous. I could mention many other aspects in detail, the excellent staff ( especially Jess and Phoebe) , the specialty marmalade, the delicious Lobster, the wide range of really good wines and the good parking facilities with baggage help if requested. To sum up : a real jewel of a hotel and we will be back for one of the future themed evenings.

An excellent 7 course taster menu at the Beechwood this evening to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. The hotel has a delightful country house ambience yet is only a five minute from North Walsham town centre and has some nice art deco furnishings throughout. The menu was exceptional value at £70 per head, and my wife enjoyed the wine flight, just £30 for two glasses of red, two white, dessert and port, all well chosen to match the food. The menu is available on the website, but I will attach some pictures, suffice to say all was delicious, and nicely explained by the young waiting staff. Very well recommended for a special evening.

Wonderful overnight stay at this lovely boutique hotel. Met by friendly receptionist Rachel who gave us a brief overview of the hotel layout whilst her colleague took our bags to the room. The room was a delight. It was a four poster with a good sized living area and an enormous bathroom. Very airy and comfortable. We had afternoon tea and a delicious evening meal in the restaurant. The waiting staff are friendly and professional without being intrusive. The maitre d’ did a wonderful job as she worked both the evening meal and breakfast the next day. Our breakfast was fresh and individually prepared. Plenty of tea and toast. My wife had the vegetarian breakfast and I had possibly the tastiest smoked salmon and scrambled eggs I’ve ever had at breakfast. Well done to everyone, proof that properly trained and motivated locals can do hospitality. At the Beechwood they do it exceptionally well. We really enjoyed our brief stay and will definitely return.

Our group of 35 (classic car club members) just spent 3 lovely nights here. It was superb from our greeting upon arrival, the one off complimentary cream tea in the garden and the fabulous breakfasts and dinners. The staff were friendly, well presented, and attentive to everyone. Probably the best staff and hotel we have stayed in in our classic car outings. For those who would like to venture out, four of us took the train into Norwich which was only a 25 minute journey. The cathedral is worth a visit if you like that sort of thing. We went to Horsey to see the seals on the beach and also took the train from Holt to Sheringham..that too was about 25 minutes, £37-00 for two. It was a treat to come back and have pre dinner drinks in the Art Deco bar. The hotel had a special guest years ago when it was a gp surgery. Agatha Christie stayed and wrote a book here. I highly recommend.

We have visited the Beechwood several times but not stayed overnight before. This first stay was for our 36th Wedding Anniversary and it was memorable for many reasons. Emma and Hugh are superb hosts and have a great team around them, not least our evening waiter, Connor. We were kindly upgraded and had a really comfortable 4-poster room. The inclusive rate was exceptionally good value and the food and wine were certainly 5* as we experienced on previous visits. We are excited to learn of the Beechwood's acquisition of Mellasat Wine Farm in Paarl (South Africa) and look forward to sampling some of their excellent wines in the not too distant future at the Beechwood. Thank you all so very much. Happy New Year.

First time we have been to this hotel and it is one of those places where you know you will be returning to as many times as possible. On arrival we were met by the owner who met us as we parked our car and who insisted on taking our luggage directly to our room before we even had time to check in. Cream tea was served in the bar by very friendly staff which set the visit off very well. Our room had a large four poster bed and was extremely well appointed, very comfortable. the bar and restaurant was very much Art Deco and had been effected very smartly. This was a one night stay to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary. From the moment we entered the hotel up to the time we checked out we could not fault the staff. They are polite, friendly, helpful and make you feel very welcome. The reason I booked this hotel was the hotels reputation for fine food and the fact it is also dog friendly. The meal we had was superb, I now have to try and replicate the sun dried tomato butter we had with crusty bread as a pre-starter and the Madagascan sauce my wife had with her steak. We both loved the art deco bar area and being able to open our bedroom door directly onto the rear garden. We both highly recommend the Beechwood Hotel either for a stay or to try out their wonderful restaurant.

What can we add to the excellent reviews already posted for this hotel? We would say that it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived, with a friendly welcome in the car park, to the point of departure, we could not fault this hotel in any way. Our room was very well appointed with a comfortable bed, good bathroom with shower cubicle, walk-in wardrobe and the usual tea and coffee-making facilities (fresh coffee with a cafetiere in the room was a treat rather than the usual instant stuff). There was a good quality radio in the room and I'm sure the television would have been good too but we didn't watch it. We had booked a package which included a cream tea (scones, jam, cream with prosecco) on the first day. This was excellent. The food was delicious (breakfast and evening meal) on all three days. Just had a lovely overnight stay at this hotel in one of their 4 poster bedrooms. Impressed from the moment we arrived. Greeted by Dale who showed us around the hotel and to our room.We had afternoon tea and the scones were very big so we would have liked a little more clotted cream and jam – minor whinge. We decided to have a walk into town (5 mins. away). Not a lot to see, it seems to be full of takeaways. Although the church is quite interesting in the centre of town.Upon arriving for our evening meal we were greeted by Hugh (the owner), who was very friendly and told us a little bit about the history of the Hotel and the connection with Agatha Christie. Our menu choices were taken in the bar by Rachel who was very professional at her job and very easy to talk to. Prior to going to the dining room we were served canapes in the bar. Upon being seated at our table and before the starter we were served a delicious amuse bouche. My choices were scallops, venison and brioche pudding. From the first mouthful to the last -absolutely delicious. Followed by coffee in the bar.We will be back!

After we had petit fours and coffee at no extra charge. Breakfast was fab. Local produce very nice. My husband I will be back. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys nice surroundings. I forgot about the rooms ! Claw foot bath. Shower. Bed you just fell into and felt you were being cuddled. I dont sleep very well but did that night.

What a wonderful find! We planned the weekend trip to Norfolk to coincide with a Friday night football game in Norwich and a travelzoo deal to stay at the Beechwood Hotel in nearby north Walsham seemed too good to miss. From the moment we were greeted in the car park by the owner Hugh, to a brief tour of the hotel, followed by being shown to our fabulous four poster room and then the welcome afternoon tea with scones in the Art Deco styled lounge....we were hooked. A perfect night’s sleep and invigorating power shower (hard to choose between the walk-in shower and sumptuous free standing bath!) before a super cooked breakfast was a great start to the day. All the staff are so friendly and attentive and go out of their way to please. We couldn’t fault the delicious evening meal. Friends who live in Norwich came to join us and all four of us were delighted with the quality, choice and presentation of the food from the amouse bouche to the petit fours with coffee. The chef is superb and the memorable meal is one of the nicest I have tasted in a while. I type this review while sitting on the comfy sofa in our room and am so looking forward to our final night here and Sunday lunch tomorrow before we have to leave. I can honestly say that we will be planning another trip to Norfolk next year to stay in this wonderful hotel again and use it as a base to explore more of the lovely surrounding area. I cannot hesitate to recommend this hotel.

During my stay in North Walsham enjoyed an excellent working lunch in this stunning hotel. Our afternoon tea included a vegetarian selection for me and my colleague had the standard selection. Delicious especially the beetroot sandwiches and scones. Plenty of tea and very attentive staff. Highly recommended.

We visit the Beechwood at least once a year for a weekend, sometimes twice and have been staying for 5 years. All the staff are all excellent, from the owner and his wife to the cleaners and waiting staff. The rooms are very comfortable, they accept dogs in some rooms which is great for us. There is a great choice of drinks and a good wine list. The food is always first class using fresh local ingredients. We tried locally shot Partridge, Brancaster Mussels ( twice as they are so good), locally caught Hake and Halibut, but there is always other dishes if you are not into fish or game, a very good selection. We have booked to return twice next year and are looking forward to it already. We met three couples this weekend who said it was their first visit and all said it won't be the last. With a great breakfast choice as well, the Kipper was especially good as was the English Breakfast.

Wow! What a wonderful hotel. We were greeted by the manger in the car park as we arrived. That fantastic warm welcome continued for the weekend by all the staff. The hotel & room were spotlessly clean, the history of the hotel is very interesting - a must for Agatha Christy fans and the food is to die for. Talking to other guests who were staying for the 10th time, it is very clear that you may arrive as guests but you leave feeling like friends and repeat customers. We have stayed in a lot of hotels, but this is the only one that we plan to go back to. Thank you to all the staff for their hard work xx

We ate in the restaurant all three nights we stayed at the hotel, all the staff were cheerful and made the effort, not something that comes with the territory in the UK normally.

What can I say.. friendly staff and well presented building.. however the food was some what underwhelming.. I was hoping for more after the reviews I read in trip advisor. But unfortunately the food was stuck in the past.. the cooking and presentation were fine but uninspired. Felt like it was stuck in a time warp of the mid 90s. :(

What a wonderful late August break we’ve enjoyed at the Beechwood Hotel. We have stayed in many nice hotels and eaten at some quality restaurants over the years but The Beechwood Hotel and Restaurant surpassed our expectations in every way and the customer service we received from every staff member was truly outstanding. The little touches matter and they were a delight to experience throughout our stay: the owner greeting us upon arrival and helping us with our bags to our amazing four poster room; cream tea and prosecco in the beautiful garden; our daily game of garden quoits under the beech tree; recommendations offered of local places to visit, gins and wines to try; exquisite floral decorations in the reception and dining room; professional, polite, efficient and friendly waitresses unobtrusively observant of guest needs such as napkins placed across knees, fish knives and steak knives provided where appropriate, the crumbs cleared from the tables prior to dessert, water and wine topped up as required; locally sourced produce cooked to order and accommodating of any dietary requirements; the complimentary hors d'œuvres, amuse-bouche and petits fours accompanying the extensive menu (including a vegetarian selection), plus a nightly special and beautifully presented, delicious cuisine served in generous portions. Many thanks to Hugh, Emma, Chef and all The Beechwood staff for making our stay extra special and a most relaxing and enjoyable experience. We’ll be back!

My husband and I stayed for 1 night only, including afternoon cream tea cream tea, dinner and breakfast. I am in a wheelchair and my husband and I were given a ground floor twin room room with all the disabled equipment needed in the bathroom. The room was spacious and patio doors gave us access to our own outdoor table and chairs, with the option to go through to the main garden. Upon our arrival the owner came out to greet us with a smile and a handshake. The manners and attitude of the staff was excellent. When we arrived at dinner a chair had already been removed from the first table to accommodate my wheelchair. The service was excellent and the food top quality. On going back to our room we found the beds prepared for sleeping and the room a comfortable temperature. The only downside was when I transferred from my wheelchair to the bed I found the bed so soft and bouncy I very nearly fell on the floor. The softness of the bed meant I found it very tricky to move myself to the middle of the bed where I felt I wasn't as risk of rolling off the edge! Once comfortable we slept well and the thick curtains meant we didn't wake til gone 8 O'clock! A walk-in shower and disabled shower chair meant I was able to shower independently, which I am unable to do at home. A full English breakfast was just the ticket to see us through the day. and the coffee was spot on. I would certainly recommend Beechwood Hotel as excellent and suitable for wheelchair users. Well done Beechwood.

We usually go for Sunday lunch but for a change decided to go for Afternoon Tea and we couldn't have made a better choice of venue. As ever Rachel, Dale and the team were attentive and very friendly without being stuffy or overzealous and all our needs were catered for. The tea itself was high quality, very fresh, appealing and super tasty. So much choice offered and a cut above so many other places in the county. Value for money can't be beaten and it knocks spots off a Michelin starred establishment on the North coast. So happy to recommend the Beechwood - keep it up Hugh and the team please!

We went here for the first time (it won't be the last) for dinner. We were met by exceptionally friendly staff in reception and the bar. Drinks were table served, and we were given the excellent menu. I had the chef's special starter and main course...and they were very special. My wife had what she describes as an amazing 'fillet rossini'. All followed by beautifully presented desserts. All the staff in the dining room, and there were many of them, were very polite, friendly, but unobtrusive.

This was our second hotel (from 3) stayed for 2 reasons, 1 ancestry search, 2 Agatha Christie. We were so surprised at the friendly service on arrival, we’d booked the sparkling cream tea which e had in the magnificent garden, the cream tea was wonderful so no room for dinner that night. Our room was large overlooking the garden, beautiful presented, clean and airy. The breakfast and supper food, was excellent, drinks bar was relaxing and well run, looked after all our needs before and during supper. We couldn’t recommend this place more highly, very good value, service second to none.

We were staying in the Norfolk Broads for a week and saw an offer for dinner for two at the Beechwood Hotel on Travelzoo. £39 for two people for a main and desert with coffee and petit fours. I purchased the voucher then contacted the hotel to ask if we could use it on a Saturday evening, that was no problem.

This is a very pleasant hotel very close to the Town Centre of North Walsham which is in itself an ideal base to tour North Norfolk, particularly from Cromer eastwards. Decor in the public rooms in Art Deco and memorabilia form Agatha Christie is on display. The food is excellent, particularly the Cromer Crab and Gressingham Duck. The co owner Hugh has an excellent team - Sam and his colleagues, Shannon, Sarah and Sophia standout. It is very dog friendly.

This restaurant, within the hotel, but open to the public, is perfect. The service was excellent, friendly and professional. The food was exceptional - beautifully presented and very tasty. We can see why it is so popular with the locals and we look forward to eating here again - simply a great experience!

We had an ice-cream and sat at one of the little tables overlooking the swimmers in the sea. It was idyllic. It was clear that whoever runs this place takes a lot of care eg there was a pretty butterfly figurine in the lavender pot on each table - a small touch but it tells you something. Lovely place. Highly recommended.
