What a gem. On the Rebellion Way bike route, we had coffee and cake each day (obvs) and this place provided the best of both during 5 days/ coffee stops in Norfolk. Great service too.

Interminable tea room queue at nearby Mannington Hall led us to bail out and try instead this village shop-cum-cafe … what a find! … quirky shop and a fine little cafe attached, serving very nice coffee and tea and authentic cakes (and more), with a smile. I wish there were more like it!

Five friends and I called in for refreshments yesterday afternoon at the end of a delightful walk around Blickling and Itteringham. We all enjoyed our tea/coffee (served in very attractive Denby crockery) and cakes. My slice of coconut and pineapple cake was simply the best cake I have eaten in years. The locally produced goods on offer were also very appealing. This shop is a little gem for locals and visitors alike. Congratulations to all involved in the running of this successful enterprise.

Exactly what you’d want from a village shop. There’s a surprising amount of stuff inside and the staff are welcoming and helpful. We went on a circular walk from Little Barningham ,which incorporated Itteringham. We popped into the Itteringham cafe for a break ,and we were really impressed with the fare that we chose to refill up. I had heard about the pork pies ,so had to try one, they indeed were all they are cracked up to be. When in the cafe also so noticed the cake on display, and had heard the people before us inquiring about purchasing half of it. This was the catalyst to try for ourselves, and had a slice of the lime and courgette cake, and got to say it was the best piece of cake we have had for a long while. The ladies in the cafe were very nice ,and helpful, which made it a very good experience. We had our dog with us ,and on bringing the food out offered to give him some more water, which was very thoughtful. If you are in the area give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I haven’t written a review before but feel saddened when I read ill informed speculative reviews such as the one below from the Idiots of Lincoln. Although local, I have no connection to the shop but I think it’s worth appreciating the work they have done over the last 4 months. With a number of the volunteers and paid staff self isolating the remaining staff worked tirelessly to stay open and make a significantly increased number of deliveries throughout the area to the many vulnerable local people. Many suppliers stopped delivering and they travelled to get new supplies from various places. They have continued to support the local community throughout this period and have done so with little respite. The staff worked for the majority of lockdown without many of the protections that the larger food shops and supermarkets were able to procure putting themselves at risk. They have gradually increased hours and I believe they will get back close to normal hours in August. I often observe rude and arrogant customers, mostly from outside the area, who like the sound of the own voices and views, but probably contribute little themselves. In these challenging times, where many people have made huge sacrifices, what seems to be important is a piece of cake after a day out !! Please continue to support this fantastic local resource, an award winning community shop, and please acknowledge the selfless work they have done. JonnyP

We have been visiting Itteringham for many years and have always used the village shop. On our most recent visit we arrived late afternoon (as always) and headed straight over to the community shop to stock up on essentials only to find the shop was closed. Whilst I appreciate the virus has changed the way the world operates on some levels I cannot understand why the local shop wasn’t open. All the other businesses we visited over the week we stayed in Norfolk opened normal hours but with the extra precautions in place. Given this shop is a community asset and historically was always run on a none profit basis I can’t see how it will continue to be viable if it isn’t open at least 8 hours a day. There were at least two days during our week in Itteringham when we arrived back from a day out and thought how lovely it would have been if we could have popped over to the shop for a coffee and cake but couldn’t because for some inexplicable reason the shop closes at 2pm. Is this due to a safety issue ( the virus) or a lack of resources. Itteringham and surrounding villages have a large proportion of holiday accommodation and a shop locally is a huge benefit, but not if it isn’t open when people arrive, tired and ready to have some homemade refreshments. Sadly I think people will find alternative sources for food. I remember the shop being much more casual and accessible back in the day.........what’s changed and why? Very disappointed as are some of our guests who have visited recently.

A proper village shop with all you would need and that little bit more. And the setting , just a gentle step back in time. Have now visited twice. First found it almost by accident. Saw some signs around the Saxthorpe area for the shop/cafe. We had dropped some youngsters off on their Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition and wanted a coffee. A lovely greeting by the volunteer staff. Tea, coffee and cake were great. I decided to call in a week later, again on a Saturday. I was out on a day cycle ride from Cromer to Norwich and wanted a tea stop mid morning. Once again a very pleasant greeting. Tea and sausage roll much appreciated. Although I did not buy any of the shop items for sale that part of the place looked very inviting. Good to see vegetables not in plastic or clingfilm. Will certainly call again and recommend to friends. Thank you.

On the way back to Aylsham from a morning shopping in Holt we saw the sigh to Itteringham and decided on such a warm day a drink at the village shop and tea room was a good idea. Although late summer the hot sun bathed the outside tables and the only minor drawback of this establishment manifested itself in finding a place to park. Being on a narrow road and at a junction there is a need to pull well in and perhaps endure a walk but all worthwhile. Once inside we were met by a warm greeting from behind the counter that serves to separate off the preparation area and provides a serving and display area for cakes etc. A very pleasant young lady directed us to a table in the corner of the shop area or offered more space in the adjoining room. As we were only having a quick coffee we sat in the corner of the shop. There is a varied menu of normal cafe food plus local pork pies Norfolk dapple cheese and home made snacks. The lattes we had were excellent although tempted we resisted the cake. We enjoyed a. wander around the shop crammed full in a building steeped in character a village asset stocking a bit of everything served by friendly staff a gem that deserves business to preserve it for future generations.

Busy community hub for locals and visitors to this typical tiny Norfolk village. Prices a little expensive but they reflect the charm and uniqueness of the establishment. This is the village shop everyone thinks that every village in England has from listening to the Archers but almost none do, and they are poorer for it. We often pop in here for a snack during a walk taking in Mannington Hall and Blickling and are really happy to hear it has been saved from the landlord's plans to sell it and will now continue to remain open for many years. The shop is a welcome refuge with all the essentials you need from newspapers to loo roll but fortunately many treats are also stocked including cakes and Samphire's legendary pork pies - I am drooling just thinking about the pies now - they really are that good. So put on your walking boots, take a stroll around some of the beautiful paths and lanes of Norfolk and stop off at this cafe/shop/social hub and change your life for the better for a day.

As I travel around this incredible country in which we are so privileged live, I often notice that so many remote villages seem lifeless and empty of people. However, this changes dramatically if there is an active school, or a popular pub and, even more so, if there is a village shop and cafe. Itteringham is a classic example. More so because the shop is also a café serving an amazing range of fresh food, all produced "in house" and by people who have dedicated their time and effort to ensure that their shop remains open.

The village shop in Itteringham, although very small, is perfectly formed. This small shop is run by the community and has been for 380 years!! It is a shop, a post office and a small café serving home made sandwiches, soup etc. There's always a warm welcome, a wonderful 'stopping off' place when exploring the area. Unfortunately, the village has a fight on their hands to keep the shop as the landowner now wants to evict them and open his own commercial shop. The community deserve to be supported in any way possible as to lose this wonderful shop/café would be devastating for everyone. We live in Lincolnshire and visit to support whenever we can.
