What a fabulous place!! Situated right on the waterfront of the River Bure, where you can watch the comings and goings of all the boats and their occupants, most of whom know what they're doing, but some beer swilling oiks are absolutely clueless in the art of sailing and boat craft in general but seem hellbent on causing as much carnage as they can!! It's very comical to watch, and in the Swan inn you're in the perfect place to do so. The property itself is wonderful, genuinely old with loads of character, and the food is amazing, plentiful portions and of very good quality. We arrived almost at the end of lunch service after a boat trip on the Broads, but were greeted with warmth and cheer, offered a seat overlooking the river, and enjoyed a very fine, if belated lunch, which was demolished with gusto. Well worth a visit when in Horning. There are other hostelries in the village so it would be unfair to attempt to compare the Swan with the others, but our experience here was VERY favourable!!

Been here a couple of times in the past and it’s been good but today was disappointing. Service dreadfully slow from initially being acknowledged on arrival to getting served with drinks. Food took 50 mins to be served and we had to chase. It wasn’t particularly busy so did not understand the hold up. I don’t mind waiting for food if I’m told that from the beginning but no communication from the start. Waitress was a bit dismissive when we chased. Food was okay…think I had at least 9 chips with my Hunters Chicken which felt a bit cheap! Prices seemed a little high for the quality of the food. Shame as I love the venue but given the cost of eating out these days service needs to be good to keep customers coming back. Sadly this is somewhere I won’t be rushing back to and won’t be recommending to friends or family!

Served a Salmonella starter of ice cold uncooked chicken. Followed by an only what can be described as microwaved roast of hard potatoes and over salted sides with pigs in blankets that look like they’ve never seen an oven before.

Just stayed for 2 nights here at the Swan, first 24hrs were lovely, rooms were lovely spacious clean, Food Monday was fab, great amount and value, breakfast was great and prompt on Tuesday morning, 2 nd night we booked a table as were told it was busy, there was plenty of room in there, put on 1 table at half past 7, then half an hour later we chased them to order drinks and food only to be told quite sharply, ‘who put you here on this table, did you book?’ It didn’t matter it wasn’t packed. Only then to try and order food, and the first 3 items we asked for they didn’t have, 2 of our party went elsewhere for food and still had to chase the drinks for the others in our party. They had ‘average ‘ food. Really disappointed as we enjoyed our stay there, In the morning it was the same, 35 mins before breakfast order was taken, and another 35 before we got anything to eat. You could tell it was a different inexperienced team on Tuesday/Wednesday. It’s not even peak season yet, we will stay again but won’t be ordering breakfast or eating there, which is a shame as first night was amazing…

Spent a lovely night here. Room was nice. Clean and airy. Had meal in evening which was very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Returned here arriving on a small boat. Sitting outside in sunshine lovely and beer good. Food very disappointing this time. I had fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish batter was over cooked and oozing fat and fish was dry. Mushy peas dry. My husband had new potatoes as a side order and he couldn't eat them. Not enough staff so a bit of a wait though they were friendly. Will go back for a drink as view lovely but sadly not for food.

We enjoyed our 2-night stay here. Beautiful location, great views of the river. The room was nice, and we slept well. The food was delicious, but at several meals some ingredients were missing from what was described on the menu. Fortunately, Christina, Liam, and Dave took care of the oversights, and we appreciated their excellent service.

My son yesterday took myself his wife and two children out for mother day. We sat outside for about an hour enjoying the sunshine and the view with drinks. Naturally. When it was time we went in and had to queue to get booked in for our table. This took maybe 1/2 before anyone booked us in. We were asked to wait at the bar, which had no seating whilst they cleaned the table. By this time I needed to sit down due time my disability. They could see I had a walking stick and took no notice, we had to ask to be seated. The table was wiped badly and all food was just wiped into the floor. Big chunks of cucumber which anyone could slip on. We waited a short while before our order was taken for starters, mains and drinks. The lad did not write the order down, and as with most of us it wasn’t quite straightforward. He had to come back again to re asks a couple of bits. We then waited 1/2 for our drinks of jug of water, lemonade and two Pepsis ! Out started took an hour to come and I had prawn cocktail which I had about 5/6 prawns loads of lettuce and two dry slices of bread. My daughter in law had to chase this order up. We then waited again an hour or so for the second course which again my daughter in law had to chase. We found out that they were running 2/3 hours behind for some reason and we were never told any of this. Some people walked out so they lost money. We did eventually have a conversation with a lovely lady called Christine who works there who apologised profusely and actual compt a bottle of wine to us and a few other tables. Plus we got an extra discount off the bill, although again we had to ask. The food when it came was lukewarm and the beef was tough and stringy. It’s a shame as the location is lovely, the pub is nice (does need updating though) I myself will not go back as it spoilt the day and I felt sorry for my son and other families who went there today for their Mother’s Day meal. The staff need to be trained better and the bar staff had the attitude of not my job when they could have helped or even sent someone over. There was also no manager to be seen, which I feel was wrong too. But thank you Liam our server and Christine for trying to do the best in a tough situation

The worst pub experience I think I’ve ever had! Booked a table for late lunch, we waited for over 10 mins to be welcomed and when it eventually happened our table was still occupied. We decided to get a drink and wait outside, when at the bar the more mature bar lady was extremely unprofessional and unpleasant and should have probably taken a chill pill or even better the day off! She raised her voice at me multiple times in our short exchange, didn’t listen to anything and seemed pissed off with all the paying customers. We got our drinks (dirty glasses and all) went outside and waited another 15 mins. The table still occupied! Waited a bit longer and after hearing multiple tables of people unhappy with their wait for food and service we ate elsewhere. Noticing when we left that the table was finally free but there was only 1 chair available on it for 4 people. This place needs some serious staff training!

Didnt even get to eat anything as our booking was at 2:30pm and didn't even recieve any food by 4pm. Had a flat Pepsi each with no ice in the glasses, didn't even ask us if we wanted another. No server interaction at all really. In the end after waiting an hour and a half we walked out and explained we didn't have the time to sit around all day. The table behind us also complained when their food arrived after an hour of waiting so we thought we'd cut our losses.

Probably the single worst meal I have had in years. Portions tiny, meat completely under cooked...the beef was actually raw in places. The veg looked like it was a few days old and reheated. Didn't even remember to bring out the cauliflower cheese. Service was bloody awful as well. They know it must be bad as didn't protest when I said we wouldn't pay for the food. This place has an unbelievable location on a sunny day, and lots of free parking. Unfortunately it is let down by astonishingly grumpy staff - sometimes I let this pass at the end of a busy day but this was half hour after opening. Didn't feel like an isolated thing either because I also heard the table next to me joking about how bad the service was! £3.something for half a glass of cranberry juice didn't help either. Made the beer feel like a bargain - silver lining I guess

One of the worst meals I have ever had, took over 60 minutes to get food. My potatoes with my fish cakes were like rocks, went to the bar (my sister in laws had the same and potatoes were just steamed!). Went to the bar to ask for some other potatoes or chips, plate snatched, taken away (wasn’t bothered about rest of food that was nice). I asked to keep it she said no and ran off with it… 10 minutes later she said new one coming, I sis don’t want it, just wanted new potatoes. She said chef thrown away. Just rubbish

Unfortunately a second low review from me. This is not based on food received, I’m sure that’s lovely! This is service based only. The first was due to finding pigeons in our room! This time we returned whilst moored near by with the hope of redemption! Headed inside to ask the availability of a table for Sunday roast at around 16.30 in February. Was unfortunately met by an obnoxious barmaid. Not sure of her name? Fairly elderly, grey hair in ponytail? I asked nicely if they had any roast dinners left and was told we needed to occupy the table before she would tell me??!! Was told to get the rest of my party immediately if I wanted to secure the table! Mentioned it was my birthday and was hoping for a nice dinner with my family and that was met with said barmaid circling her finger around her face in a ‘bothered’ motion! Incredibly rude in my opinion and would not spend money here in. I’m sure a little more staff training could help this place out. Unfortunately dines out on being a riverside pub so doesn’t need to try to be good. Disappointing.

Went in low season (January) 2025, with my husband, living in Norwich. Not especially busy but at low season the staffing levels are lower. But this did not detract from the dining experience. The staff who were working were fantastic. Karol greeted us in and took us to our table giving us a few minutes to decide what we wanted. On a cold Sunday afternoon the decision was easy, and we both had a roast sirloin of beef. The service was fast and our Sunday lunch with all the trimmings was delicious, although (and I am being really picky because the meal was very good), I wish I had been given more carrots. Finished off with a small Bakewell sponge pudding with custard. Our thanks to Jordan, Tracey and Karol for making us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back, you have an amazing pub/restaurant.

Only asked about drinks once during whole sitting. Went to pay for 3 soft drinks and 1 glass of wine and older lady tried to charge £48. Was actually quite rude saying i owed monies which was wrong. Another staff sorted and was their error. Staff were clearly overwhelmed and doing their best but was very clearly stupidly over booked. I felt sorry for them to be fair. We go annually for a family get together, but we've been for the last time. Prices are on the top end, for what is pretty low quality food. Considering we had pre ordered for around 15 of us, multiple meals had to go back because the vegetables were cold..really cold. All of the veg on the roasts were stone cold, and weren't much better when they came back out. I think the roast potatoes were reheated from a previous day - they were just dry, powdery and flavourless. One of the meals was totally forgotten, resulting in one of the party eating about 20 mins later than the rest which was avoidable. Really poor quality, and poorly cooked food, with mains at around £20 per head. The icing on the cake was the assumptive 10% service charge, which is just annoying. The waitress and waiter who served us were really lovely and couldn't have been nicer, so we paid it for their sake, but being railroaded into a significant tip for an overly expensive Wetherspoons grade meal leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Yes, you got the tip this time, but you've definitely lost the annual family get together, as well as multiple smaller family visits throughout the year, because you made an expensive and disappointing trip 10% more expensive!! Yes, we did raise the food issues and the waitress and waiter were very apologetic and lovely (they did their job very well!), but ultimately you have to accept that this is the product you're selling, and it ruins the occasion if you have to keep complaining and sending the food back.

6 of us had booked for Sunday lunch. We arrived at 1pm. Were eventually served at 2pm. We were aware there was a staff shortage, as in many hospitality areas since covid. However we did see other tables being served before us. We asked as our main course plates were taken away, for the dessert menu. We had to ask twice for this. After about ½ hr the menus were given to us. We asked a couple of times if we could place an order, neither time was there an apology that they were busy/ short staffed. The second time we were told 'I'm just with a customer' - someone was being shown to their room. We did point out that we were customers too, but this fell on deaf ears. In the end we went to the bar & asked to pay. The 'waitress' was very quick to serve us, again no apology for slow service. I was also dismayed that the 'waiter's' top had ridden up and his bare stomach was showing as he served us our food. We are locals, not holiday makers, so obviously our review will be shared with friends. It maybe because the pub is in a holiday resort that locals aren't considered that important, but obviously through the winter months, we might be !

Lovely pub, lovely food and lovely staff, just very slow due to only 2 staff serving on a lovely sunny day. They forgot to place our dessert order which then took 40mins to come.

This was our second visit in 6 weeks and both times we have left without any food being served, the kitchen cannot cope with the orders and after waiting for starters for over 75 minutes and 65 minutes we gave up. I'd recommend the New Inn down the road !!

I will start by saying, we have eaten in this establishment several times over the past 14 years or so!! Myself and my partner were not really that impressed with the food, neither the service we received!!! But, we always gave it another chance!! Now........ we booked an evening table, this was last week, what a surprise, a very pleasant surprise may I add!! We had lovely, smiling table service, amazing starters, main course was absolutely delicious, finished with a superb desert!!! Drinks were not to bad either!!! Well done Emma and team, you are turning this beautiful landmark back to how it should be. Keep up the good work, lots to do going forward, but you are proving you will get there, we can also see you are very dedicated and giving it your all......... We will definitely see you again soon, supporting local business. Kindest, Clay and Clare......

Currently on a boating holiday in the broads, ate here 3 times. A brilliant experience every time. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We were mainly looked after by Jordan who made us feel extremely welcome and also managed our visits above and beyond how he was expected to. Thank you.

Arrived at about 5PM and waited for about 2-3 minutes to be served but instead the person behind the bar walked off. 3-4 members of staff stood around talking whilst we had been waiting there looking for a menu carried on regardless. Bar person returned looked at us and proceeded to put bottlea of wine in the fridge, then walked off to the other 4 staff. We left again, having never seen a menu or had so much as a 'be with you in a moment'. We felt very unwelcomed and will never return. Management has changed recently so the previous reviews should be marked as archived and not applicable now.

We popped in after a trip on the Southern Comfort Steam Ship, to be told it was reservations only, with near on 100 people getting off the Boat trip, you could have made quite a bit of money, we were very disappointed, we were on Holiday so won't visit again

It was dreadful. Slow service, I originally asked if I could order at the bar to be told it was full table service but no one came. So I then queued at the wait here to be seated sign. Was ignored several times by a male waiter on duty, eventually a different chap came over. I said I already had a seat but wanted to order. He said come to the bar. I ordered various coffees & sandwiches which 30+ minutes later had not arrived so went back to the bar to find out why 🤷♀️ apologies were given & coffee prices refunded but told it usually takes 30 minutes for food to arrive which I replied well it should be served now then! Coffee was nice, sandwich nice but the 24 chips was very stingy considering the charge of £11.50 for a sandwich & chips! Definitely will not be recommending!

Stopped here for Sunday lunch. Had a wait as the kitchen were setting up ready for the next stint, but it wasn't an issue as the view was lovely over the river. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was great. A special mention to our waitress Lilly, who was very friendly and attentive.

We arrived at The Swan Inn by boat, and it was a great experience from the start. The atmosphere was fantastic—really relaxed and welcoming. The food was good too, with plenty of tasty options on the menu. I opted for the lasagne, everything was fresh and well-prepared. Overall, it’s a great spot to stop by, especially if you’re arriving by boat. We’ll definitely visit again.

Unfortunately they had not reserved our booking for 20 people and said they were too busy to reply to ann enquiry email even though we’d given 5 weeks notice. They wouldn’t honour the booking even though their tables were empty nor did they apologise. So we took our business to the New Inn who were wonderful and the food was excellent. Unfortunately there seems to be an enduring issue with staff and service here.

Up The Swanee How very disappointing this establishment is! A few months ago we were in the area and wanted a Sunday roast so we drove a few miles to the Swan as it used to be a pub I liked. We had a lot of trouble parking but eventually got there. We waited to be seated for about ten minutes. Many members of staff walked past and not one gave us eye contact. I gave up and went to the bar. Again, I did not get eye contact for about 5 minutes. Please bear in mind there was hardly anyone in the pub at this time. We eventually sat down but after 15 minutes no one took our order so we had to leave, absolutely starving. We informed them we were leaving as we had had terrible service and they did not do anything to persuade us to stay. We went in the height of summer for a drink and were told “you can’t sit outside as we are doing maintenance works in the garden” this is the major selling point of this pub as it overlooks the broads. We had to leave again. Thinking we may have been unlucky the last times we went we decided to give it another try last week. There was hardly anyone in there and only two people with drinks outside. There was a sign on the bar “due to circumstances beyond our control we can only serve food to people who have made bookings” I asked the bartender what this meant to which he replied: “we have some large bookings coming in later so we can’t serve food.” Now I’m not a business expert by any means but if that really is the case then possibly serve food UNTIL they arrive or serve a limited menu - don’t turn away paying customers! Is it so hard to heat up a soup or slap together a sandwich? The location is PERFECT, the building is lovely so why turn people away and give yourself a bad reputation? We won’t be going again.

Colleague arranged for 20 of us to eat at The Swan and made a booking 5 weeks ago for us to eat there today & confirmation was received by email stating that this had been booked. Arrived as agreed at 17.00 only to be told that the email sent back from The Swan was an automated reply and as they were short staffed they didn’t have the time to let us know they couldn’t cater for such a large party! Even though there was only 14 of us in the end, they still wouldn’t agree to prepare any meals for us and turned us away. Dreadful treatment would definitely NOT recommend, glad we rang The Inn, just up the road who were only too pleased to fit us in at very short notice! As for The Swan none of us will be returning or recommending!

This is our second stay at The Victoria, and for the second time the food and service has let down, what could have been a great stay. The vegetarian curry was so ordinary - undercooked broccoli and cauliflower with curry sauce. How easy would it have been to add some yogurt or almonds? A popadom? Something to make this worthy of being in the menu at £18. I had to ask for chutney, but the curry was still uninspiring. And no one - not any of the 4 staff who served us - asked if the meal was okay. Basic service etiquette, surely? All of this was passed on the following morning, but no recompense was offered - we still paid in full. We also had a disappointing meal last time, so for us this is our last stay at The Victoria. Shame, because the location is fab.

Excellent pub. Good food which exceeded our expectations. Great service from the lady behind the bar. Let us order despite us cutting it fine near cut off time just before 2PM and even allowed us to add desert. Warm and welcoming with roaring log fire. Ideal if you are visiting Hickling Broad nature reserve at the end of the road. We look forward to going back in the future.

We had a wonderful lunch at the Ship, Paula looked after us so well and made my little boy’s day. The pub has an amazing location and a great garden.
