We called in here, initially for drinks, prior to walking into Wells across Holkham beach. Since we were last here that is now not possible due to a change of ownership and policy. We therefore decided to change our plans and have lunch on the patio then walk later in the day. We chose a mixture of the tapas dishes, which we all excellent. I did not notice any statement on the menu that a 10% service charge would be added to the bill, so to keep the peace with my wife, I did not question it with the waiter. It is a gripe of mine that service charges are not shown as discretionary. That issue aside, I would eat here again.

What a fantastic restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by the team. The service team were excellent and knowledgeable. The food was superb and reasonably priced. One member of our team has dietary meds due to a medical condition. This was taken care of with humility and compassion. Views are superb and the ambience is unrivalled. Thank you The Victoria for a superb evening.

A lovely restaurant just over the road from the beach car park at Holkham. We all enjoyed our food very much, with particular highlights being the cod gougons ,the focaccia with dipping sauce, and the sea bass main course. Good range of drinks too. A little on the expensive side, but worth it for the nice views and the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant.

Having enjoyed the Victoria in the past we decided to call in whilst travelling around the coast. We thought it strange that our normal route into the Victoria and through the courtyard was closed off so we entered through the main door only to be greeted with are you a resident, we only serve residents here.This attitude will lose customers.

Super dog-friendly, brought dog biscuits out on our arrival. Staff, service and surroundings were great. We had the tapas style food which was lovely. Highly recommend the Breakfast Martini. Will definitely visit next time we come to Holkham.

We used to call in for a drink after walking in the area. No more! We were amazed to be curtly turned away as we weren't residents despite the bar being empty! We will not be going back, shame as we used to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Would give zero stars if allowed!

As seems common reading other reviews, we went to the Victoria after walking around Holkham Hall. There were two members of staff (no customers) who refused to serve us drinks as we were not staying at the hotel. We felt like making use of the vintage muskets off the wall. It was very wet outside, and it put us off eating or staying here in the future. My dad lives in Wells and he affirmed that the hotel has a reputation for having rude staff and to avoid. Shame as obviously we will be back, but we won't be returning here.

Stopped for lunch. Food lovely but service was terrible. No-one came to check how our meal was or if we needed anything and I had to ask for the table to be cleared. We were the only ones in the restaurant so no excuse. Very dissapointing.

Stayed two nights with my partner and our dog - service was great, food was exceptional, staff were very accommodating, and the location was amazing. Room was a good size and clean. The estate was gorgeous and the beach was great! We’ll be back ☺️

Noticed the ridiculous and unfair reviews from people who have not actually stayed at the Victoria but were unable to get a pint so decided to post one star reviews. Clearly the management have decided to change the business model to even out custom fairly for guests over the year, and much more sensibly the locals who work here. Having just returned from a weekend at the Victoria I can see why, and it works. The 5 star review is entirely down to the absolutely wonderful staff who made our weekend so special, a genuinely lovely group of people who all went the extra mile. DB&B was very good value, the breakfast was superb, and all of local provinance. The complimentary mini bar a terrific surprise, access to all of the Holkham Estate and a parking pass for all of their various attractions was another unexpected plus. A surprise gem. Top tip, it's a very dog friendly hotel, great if you love dogs, if you don't the Ancient House next door is dog free so bear that in mind when booking.

Such a fabulous hotel. Food, rooms and service are outstanding in every way. Without doubt, one of the best places to stay in Norfolk. Fantastic walks in the park or the beach, which is one of the most beautiful in the UK. Incredibly dog friendly too, with dog beds and bowls provided, as well as fantastic biscuits! Very highly recommended

I took my mother for lunch at The Victoria after a lovely walk around the grounds of Holkham Hall (which I’d highly recommend). From the moment we walked in to book a table right through to the time we left I could not praise the friendliness of all the staff highly enough. The young lady that booked us our table was extremely warm & welcoming. Then the young man who welcomed us into the restaurant was extremely friendly too. He also had time for my pet dog and was quick to offer her a snack. When we sat at our table the staff were extremely attentive, very polite and it made our lunchtime experience a really pleasant one. On top of that the food was delicious, (the Cottage pie was perfect !) the house red was spot on and I would certainly recommend The Victoria to anyone looking for good food, a warm welcome and friendly staff. I’ll certainly be revisiting and I shall be bringing along several friends. Thank you !

We visited Norfolk in November and had a meal at The Victoria , we were that impressed we visited again when in Norfolk this February. Again the food , service and surroundings were excellent , good food , not over complicated but very tasty and very well done. We will certainly visit again. If you haven’t already I would advise you give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Came across The Victoria whilst doing Holkham Circular Walk. Whilst it was more than we were looking for at lunchtime that day, the menu looked appealing so we decided to visit one evening, and we were not disappointed. Service was attentive without being rushed. Nothing was too much trouble and the menu lived up to expectations. The food was excellent; very tasty and well presented, and not over-priced. The setting was also lovely; quite formal in a way, yet also very relaxing. Hope to be back!

Lovely welcome from the staff, very comfortable traditional country inn style decor with a crackling fire on a blowy day in February. Excellent place for a pit stop after a walk on the beach and in the woods. Menu isn’t cheap but is good value,and varied. The tapas style small plates make a great alternative for a light lunch or the inevitable soup or sandwich. We chose to have just a main course, seduced by the delicious sounding halibut with mussels, leeks & cider sauce, & the cod with chorizo rarebit- both were beautifully cooked, lived up to expectations and for us required no additional sides. Our dog was also made very welcome, homemade treats provided once we’d given permission and the staff are clearly all animal-lovers. Having said that, we discussed accommodation with our waiter and it was good to hear that the dog-friendly rooms are quite separate from the animal-free rooms. Shows the thought that has gone into ensuring everyone’s comfort and enjoyment.

We stayed at this hotel in December. All the food we had was delicious & well presented. Lovely place to meet friends for lunch or dinner. The decorations were so lovely & made it very cosy with the big fire. I do have to say we did witness some people being turned away & it wasn’t done in the best way. They were a bit sharp. However the bar isn’t the biggest so it’s nice if your staying there to have bar area to your selves. It is also very dog friendly.

Such a wonderful visit, I’m so pleased we popped in. From the moment we arrived (with our rather unpredictable 18 month old) the staff made us feel nothing short of welcome. The food was great, the pub was super cosy and festive with the fires, and the salted caramel truffles were such a nice touch! Highly recommend for those who have little ones but are nervous about venturing out. This pub will look after you! We will be back.

Fabulous room however food did not match. Salmon stater inedible, we sent it back, goulash was v nice Mains Beef slices very tough and chewy, cottage pie bland and tasteless Cheese to finish was fine but very small portion

So disappointed, we went as a family of 8 for my sons birthday ( to be followed by a bike ride). Very limited menu, children meals were tiny, I had a 7 &8 yr old and they asked if their tiny square of fish and 3 potatoes was a starter? My children love veg but after asking for veg for my children ( they love veg most veg) but cabbage and pickled cucumbers was not for most! My pudding looked amazing but very flavourless. My children both orders pancake and ice for pudding, one came and my son kindly let his sister have the first one, nothing came for my son, we ask two members of staff for our missing pudding, over 1/2 hour and nothing. Unfortunately 30 mins after we had all finished pudding, my son ( who birthday it was) said I do to want to wait any longer. So we paid and walked walked out. Great spot but won’t be coming back, such a disappointment!

We went during restaurants week in Norfolk and had poor cheap to prepare food ,poor service from the manager and the restaurant had six couples with dogs some of which barked and the owners were not spoken to.

Great views excellent food and good service. The portions were generous and the food well prepared presented by helpful and attentive staff.

Unless you are a resident you are not welcome. Lots of walking reviews and campsites tell you this is a good stop off for drinks. It’s a lie and the staff make sure you know you are not welcome

I had a fantastic birthday meal at the Victoria Hotel. They made it special by giving me a birthday card. I started with delicious tomato and mozzarella bruschetta paired with Pinot Grigio wine. The sea bass for the main course was perfectly cooked, and the Pinot Noir Rosé wine complemented it well. I also enjoyed an espresso martini at the beginning. For dessert, the four cheeses with Armagnac were a great choice. The service by Flo and the team was attentive, and the restaurant had a great ambiance. Both my partner and I had a wonderful evening, and the bill of £149 felt like good value for the quality and quantity of food and drinks. Thank you, Victoria Hotel!

Having grown up in the area and previously frequented the place just for drinks (when we perhaps didn't want a meal), we were always made welcome. Now, today we have been told unless you are booked in for a meal you can't be served drinks as its "not bar!". How pretentious and business naive is that to turn away footfall business. Won't recommend and won't come back until management are changed or change their business direction. Clearly that explains how QUIET it was with people using the car park to simply go walking!

My wife and I visited the Victoria at 2.40pm on a Monday. We knew they stopped serving food at 2.30pm but we intended to pop in, buy a drink and see what the place was like with a view to booking a table for a meal later in the week. On arrival although the place is open between lunch and evening meal times, we were immediately told that they only sold drinks with meals and we were therefore unable to just buy drinks. It's a hotel!!!! Needless to say we won't be returning for a meal or a hotel stay. This used to be a very welcoming establishment but with attitudes like that towards potential customers it could well be a short lived venture.

We had an amazing evening meal at the Victoria. The staff were first class, welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The food quality was as good as it gets, portion sizes generous and prices more than reasonable given the quality. Dog friendly with plenty of on site parking. What’s not to love.

We called in at the Victoria for a drink after a long walk. We were thirsty and asked if we could order drinks and sit in the garden. We were told ‘no’ despite it being empty. Far too pretentious - when did hotels stop welcoming guests into the bar? We’ve stayed here before in the past but won’t be visiting again.

Hadn’t booked, went in for lunch with our little dog, greeted by reception, very pleasant lady, she sent us through to restaurant. Then greeted by a lady in restaurant and showed us straight to a table in the conservatory. Lovely view across the nature reserve. The staff were very efficient, making sure we had water from the off, the menu was very varied, lots of excellent choices, starter, mains and deserts. We had all three, to be honest, we could have stayed there for hours!!! We were made so welcome and so was our dog! The food did not disappoint!! All three courses were so flavoursome and superbly presented. This is definitely fine dining at its best. Definitely NOT a pub! Me and my 76 year old mother and two primary school children arrived at the Victoria after a walk on Holkham beach. Having missed the coast hopper back to Wells we had to wait an hour for the next one so were in need of shelter and refreshments - despite the rest of England having balmy weather, Norfolk was in fact 12 degrees and we were cold and fed up. On arrival at reception I light heartedly explained our dilemma, politely asking if they could host us for an hour while we wait for the next bus. The response was a flat no - they could not serve food or drink to any non residents, and the ‘sitting room’ despite being completely empty was for guests only - we had to leave. Upon explaining that we’d be keen to buy some food and drink, we were cold, it was drizzling outside and we were stranded for an hour etc etc they stood their ground and insisted that despite the hotel common parts being completely empty, everywhere was for residents only and please could we leave. I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about this place for a while now, and my experience today has proven then all to be right; unfriendly and not a place I’d ever return to. In its hey day this place was great, no more. Hospitality is having a tricky time at the moment and this place is doing it no favours.

I have eaten at The Victoria many times and have always enjoyed the experience. However, today’s meal was so poor that I doubt if I will return. It was called street food but it was junk food sold at a premium price. I have had better food served on Aeroflot in the Soviet era. Drinks were served in nasty plastic containers, while the food itself was dished up in takeaway boxes, delivered in a brown paper bag, with wooden forks. Holkham has always prided itself on serving local produce: the quality of the ingredients suggested that it came from anywhere but Norfolk.My companion’s beer was cloudy and undrinkable. No desserts were available. If The Victoria wants to lose long-established customers it is going the right way about it. The Holkham brand has been throughly tarnished by a dreadful management decision. Avoid.

Indifferent & unfriendly front of house, terrible, tasteless food. No hot drinks being served - even our dog was desperate to leave. won't be going back that way, in fact,would recommend parking at Holkham & walking to Wells. The Victoria Inn should close change the management & front of house staff, if they want to keep any customers.

Thought this would be a nice treat, booked way in advance, so was really organised and looking forward to the food. We were shown to a rubbish table, it was more bar stools than dining furniture, so was not comfortable and asked to be moved, no problem. Menu was small which was OK, I order the Kofta, my husband ordered the Fish and we ordered a side of chips covered in beef. All OK but my husband felt it wasn’t anything special. I suppose the setting/location is the selling point?

Great location and beautiful bar. We booked in for Sunday lunch. I think it was the best Roast beef we have ever had. My parents had stayed for the weekend and had a wonderful dinner on the Saturday. Four of us ordered the Roast beef to find it was served on a platter for us to serve our selves. Such a great idea. The beef was very tender and the vegetables cooked to perfection. Really worth the drive from London. I can not wait to return.

We were excited to take my mother in law here for lunch , expecting finery - we received an average meal To be fair at an average price. We were told they had lots of Gins, my 3 choices they did not have - the starters were odd .. the pheasant starter looked similar to chicken nuggets, but tasted ok. The fish platter was ok , the gamekeepers platter was so dry and the fish and chips overcooked. I wanted a dessert .. but decided not to risk it - sadly will not return. Sorry

We have wanted to try the Victoria for a hill - and saw that it had just opened ... post- covid round 1 ... for lunch to non-residents. We opted to stay inside .. with very socially distanced tables .. but still a lovely and cool atmosphere .. we had the seafood and ploughman's platters ... both were very tasty and, despite the very recent re-opening .. were the best we had tasted recently. Staff were very attentive and service was very good. We will be trying to go back soon!

The Victoria on the Holkham estate is a great place for lunch. I dtarted with an outstanding tempura avocado with pineapple salsa. Inspirational to create such an amazing starter. It was so light yet so tasty. I then had the beef dish. Well.... meat so tender it literally melted in my mouth. We always come here when we are in the area and have never ben dissapointed. Congratulations to the chef and all staff. We will be back, again.

We popped in here after a wonderful walk around the stunning parkland of holkham hall estate. We found a table in the snug which seated 6 of us and three Labradors easily. The pub as always had a friendly relaxed atmosphere and we ordered lunch. My wife and I were both going to have fish and chips but on seeing the roast beef dinner coming through my wife changed her mind as it looked amazing. The beef was succulent and juicy with a great selection of vegetables and a large home made Yorkshire pudding. My only gripe with sitting in this room is the front door is on a latch which doesn't close very well and you constantly have to get up to close it because of the draft but otherwise everything was perfect

My party and their dogs were made very welcome by attentive and helpfull staff however we did find the menue odd as there were options such as baked mussels in what appeared to be a starters section and other options for their vegan clients that did not excite. We chose traditional favourites that were well presented and cooked.

We recently enjoyed a very early beach walk with our dog at Holkham in order to see the sunrise. After our walk we decided to pitch up the Victoria for breakfast and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed a super breakfast at a table near the fire where our dog was allowed to join us. After fruit and cereals I enjoyed eggs benedict and my dearly beloved opted for the full English, washed down with copious amounts of tea and coffee. The service was excellent as were the breakfasts - a really nice thing to do! Full marks to The Victoria - we haven’t been there for some time but we will be back.......

On arrival, the staff were really friendly and showed us to our table. We were sat next to the window, and the overall atmosphere was nice. However, things started to go downhill with the service. The staff kept on leaning across us, which was very rude. They also leaned across our son, who has special needs. When we tried to use the disabled facilities, it was being used by the staff as a changing room. Our food was very nice but very pricey for what it was. Disappointing experience.

Very sandy, wet & with a hairy salty dog in tow I wasnt expecting such a welcome. Lovely homemade soup of the day with loads of bread (a choice including gluten free). Delicious mulled wine but also great beers on offer. Tried the bar snacks crab beignets which were clearly homemade not brakes brothers but slightly lacking in oomph & I was hoping for something tastier. However in the scheme of things I had a toasty time reading the local paper with my dog sprawled out on the floor fast asleep. Nothing seemed too much trouble & I succumbed to a fabulous proper home made mince pie to go out with. As a solo traveller I felt very comfortable visiting & there were clearly all sorts of people enjoying The Victoria from resident guests to groomed diners to impromptu scruffs like me. It must be exhausting to provide such a welcome day in day out & so staff need credit for that.

pub with restaurant on the Holkham estate. Good separate parking on site.Lovely warm atmosphere and dog friendly !We went for Sunday lunch before joining a tour of Holkham Hall at Christmas. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Nice small bar with a few local brews ( but no Adnams !!)Sunday lunch was in the conservatory & for 7 All ordered the beef. 4 thought the beef ok but 3 of us found the beef very chunky and chewy. Inedible Meat we left on the side of the plate. My wife was asked how the meal was and after we told them of the chewy Beef they reduced the bill by 10%. So the beef tenderness needs to be addressed! ( must be a Sunday best seller so this dish has to be 100% !!) I would not choose this dish next time. Try the chicken, another favourite & difficult to get wrong ! Lovely place though.

We have not booked a table , but the staff were very kind and found a nice table for us though the restaurant was quite busy.The service was good and food delicious though much more expensive than we expected.

Great place , quality food and good selection of beers etc , we didn’t eat there and only had a pint , but staff were very friendly and helpfully....

3 of us stopped in for Sunday lunch not good ,not very welcoming or friendly in fact rather stuffy,perhaps if we had our greens on ,shooting boots and gun dogs we might have been welcomed better ,we are all paying customers .asked for a table,ok we hadn’t booked but told restaurant fully booked ,strange hardly any one sitting at the tables check later still not full up,had a meal in the bar area,people kept leaving the door open I shut it 3 times so did other people and staff just walked past the open door,ordered drinks had to ask for my coffee,bar person forgot my coffee same person I noticed kept going to he’s mobile phone aleast 3 times while I was waiting for my coffee. Food one of us had starter size mussels,served in an open dish not a. Proper mussel pot,we counted the mussels there was only 20, that works out at 50p a mussel,price was £9,50. We had lots more at other places the last few days and cheaper. The soup was very average leek and potato,I had the soup at the pheasant hotel yesterday at kelling which was leek and potato far superior, served with a hot roll and butter you could spread .

Haven’t been here for years and it’s as classic as ever. In fact it’s even better now as a dog owner because they now allow well behaved dogs in the restaurant. Great food, veggie friendly, and efficient service.

Not very organised nor welcoming. Table only cleared from previous customer when asked and not wiped. Constantly having to go round to other side of bar to get their attention to order. Wrong menus issued then withdrawn. Food was okay and luckily no dogs in while we were there but obviously very much centred around dogs which personally put me off a bit. Ok in outside areas but not inside. We wouldn’t return.

Of the various 2019 Restaurant Week menus that we have tried this year, the Victorias was the best across the complete 3 courses - and their service is of the high standard expected. Its just a shame that their "dog friendly" attitude puts Customers like ourselves off from returning. Whilst we were dining there were 3 dogs at other tables in the restaurant, something we find both off-putting and rather unpleasant - hence their failure to get what would have otherwise have justified an "excellent" rating
