Came here to celebrate a friends engagement. We’re very well looked after at a lovely pub. Well managed as they managed to fit us in last minute!

We have visited this pub a couple of times over the last few weeks as it’s on the route of a walk from Cley up to the nature reserve. On both occasions, we only chose from the lunch light bites, which are on the back of a beer mat. On the first visit, the food was excellent. On the 2nd visit, our food was just about warm, although it was still tasty enough. We felt that it could have been served straight away, rather than sitting in the kitchen. Our other halves were pleased with the choice of ales.

Shocking. I have been here many times over the years and was so disappointed. The service was slow and disinterested. We would have ordered more wine but by the time a waiter came we had decided to leave. The food was average and over priced. We started with flatbreads and black garlic houmous. The houmous was nice but the flatbread was horrible and there were only two tiny slices. We asked for a bit more bread for which we were charged an extra £4. The starters were better but not worthy of the price band they fell in. The crab meat on a crumpet and the sea trout, samphire and wild garlic were the best items of the evening. The sea bass was under seasoned and the cassoulet was basically just tinned tomatoes and beans. The pork with potato terrine, egg yolk and sage came without the egg and with a thin watery gravy which was completely out of place on the plate. The terrine was dry and lack lustre. We rang the taxi to collect us early.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wiveton Bell, our room was ‘Starlight’ a well appointed room, lovely sitting area with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits, as well as fresh milk all replenished each day. Bed linen was beautiful the bed really comfortable. Food service for breakfast and dinner was excellent, even when busy. All the staff were welcoming, professional and friendly. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice from Full Norfolk or Veggie breakfast, eggs Benedict, smoked salmon or Continental. The evening menu was equally good with delicious choices, no complaints about any of it, all served with a smile. Will happily recommend to friends and family.

Great stay in The Starlight Room, staff are all friendly, welcoming and helpful. Food is excellent, lots of choice for breakfast too. Just little niggles to make it perfect: Wish there was a choice of bun for the burger Brioche too sweet, sour dough lovely but too hard when toasted. Housekeeping: the shower waste needs attention as the water is overflowing from the tray, the waste outlet isn’t clean, full of hair etc. Have already recommended to friends, would definitely come again.

Booking was originally for 18:00. Called to delay by 15 minutes and advised if we did not arrive at the new time the booking would be lost, fair enough. We sat down at 18:15 drinks arrived promptly however our food order was not taken until 19:00. The starter arrived 20 minutes later and was incorrect. The main course arrived at 19:45 an hour and 30 minutes after we arrived. By this time the restaurant had many spare tables which were not cleared from previous diners for the entire time of our stay, you could not be described the restaurant as busy, to leave the tables in this state did not make for a good look. The chicken Kiev was very disappointing with two small pieces which we would describe as nuggets and very dry. An apparent lack of staff, an incorrect order and the delay in service made for a very disappointing experience.

It was a bit of a mixed bag for us really. We went for an early supper at 6pm and we all enjoyed our main courses very much. When we arrived, the service was great. Then it started to get busy and there was a long wait for our desserts, which weren't quite so good. My daughter ordered scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream. Essentially it was served as a whole scone with a little bit of jam and cream plonked on the top, making it hard to eat with a spoon and fork and very dry past the top part. I ordered dognuts with rhubarb and custard, which I thought sounded different. They certainly were! There were 2, quite dry donuts with very little custard inside and an undercooked tiny strip of rhubarb on the top. Very dry and they tasted a bit like they may have been cooked with fish! Overall. Expensive desserts (£9 each) for what they were and very disappointing. We expected better quality considering how good thr main courses were. We weren't asked at the end of the meal or when we paid our bill if everything was OK, so we just paid and left. Seemed like service might be better when less busy possibly.

Stayed in the panel room, the shower pressure in the shower was very low, did ask for it to be looked at but did not get fixed and a lot of noise from the kitchen right below clearing up at night, seemed to be a lot of slamming doors and Sunday night moving beer kegs around. Room was adequate, the photograph implied it was larger. Underfloor heating in the room was great as it was cold in March. Staff couldn’t do enough for you, very friendly and obviously loved dogs. The issue for me wasn’t so much the location rather its remoteness, with no paths or street lights it was very difficult to walk my dog. The area was pretty but too remote for me. There was building work going on which we knew about and had a discount for but in hindsight we should have delayed by a week or two as it did interfere with our enjoyment. The work will definitely enhance the experience of a stay there in the future. I haven’t stayed in pub accommodation before only hotels so I guess my expectations were clouded.

Me and family came here for a birthday and it was such a lovely experience, all the staff were so lovely, particularly Ashley who served us. I started with the prawns which were delicious and went onto the beef burger which was well built with a lovely combination of flavours. The fries were beautifully seasoned as well. I then had the creme brulee which was perfect in my opinion and tasted amazing! The building itself was undergoing building work but was lovely from what I could see and the interior was well organised and not too loud!

Have never , ever done this but.... booked a table for Saturday night based on a recommendation. Food was great but service was not. Don't get me wrong , I am not asking an establishment to be falling over with gratitude that we are visiting but there are simple things to expect. You should expect water to arrive if you ask for it, you should expect the waiting staff to know the menu and be able to answer questions about it. You would like to be asked if your meal is OK. You might also like a smile or a warm exchange. Its also nice to be asked if you would like another drink when your glass is empty. Having shared our disquiet in a respectable way before leaving and left feedback on line , one might have expected a response. Nothing. Corporate ownership at its worst.

*email sent* Good evening, I feel I need to give you some feedback regarding my recent visit to Wiveton Bell. I have been coming here for many years and I have always been very happy with my experience. This evening, unfortunately, I feel very differently due to the actions of one of your supervisors. I will elaborate. The starters were fine, delicious in fact. The mains were just as tasty and the service from the young gentleman was great. However, when the affogatos arrived there was no amaretto to accompany it; the ice cream was full of ice chips, like it had left out and refrozen and was absolutely tasteless. A real disappointment, and very different from the affogatos we had recently at the Wiverton Bell. I felt the need to comment to the lady who was front of house. Her response was nothing short of rude. It was our own fault for not asking for amaretto, and the ice cream looked fine. She then made it blatantly obvious it was time for us to go (7.30pm, we arrived 6.45pm) and gave us the bill before we had finished our drinks. On exiting the restaurant, we said good evening and we were completely ignored by the female. This really isn’t the level of service I would expect from staff, quite unnecessary and unacceptable. Standards have definitely slipped. I would appreciate the email address of the general manager to forward this complaint.

Staff were friendly welcoming whilst also skilled and professional. We were staying in a holiday cottage about 20 mins drive away. Despite leaving with time to spare our satnav took us to the wrong destination, after informing them we would be about 15 mins late, our route was then hindered by a road closure. We arrived an hour late but staff were very understanding and helpful. The service, food were fab, and despite our journey and worry that we would lose our table the staff made our evening great. Even remembering it was our anniversary, and writing happy anniversary on our dessert plate with chocolate sauce.

Had a meal here on New Year’s Day. Taken to our table and at first it seemed as if they were slightly understaffed. Several tables around us were sending food back which is always a red flag, we ordered drinks - some of the draught beers were off which was disappointing. We ordered food from the somewhat limited menu and the food arrived soon afterwards. All food was good however the pumpkin soup was inedible which we were still charged for after giving feedback to waiter which was annoying. Probably wouldn’t return. As there are multiple other options in the area.

We had dinner here on New Year’s Day. We agree with a previous reviewer that they seemed understaffed, which was perhaps understandable given the date, but we then had to wait an hour for our main courses which was disappointing and when they finally arrived, one was inedible as the meat was so fatty that we had to send it back. They had also sold out of several things including most steaks despite it only being early evening. They did give us some money off our bill when we complained which we did appreciate, but unfortunately this didn’t really compensate for the overall experience or the quality of the food which was generally poor. We used to love this place and feel sad that it is so much changed now. This was our first time trying it since the ownership changed. We won’t be returning after this experience, sadly, as there are too many better options in the area.

We've been coming to the Wiveton Bell for a number of years. We hadn't been since it's new ownership. We had a big family meal, and it was pretty shoddy. The food was outrageously priced for what it was. My wife had what was essentially quarter of braised cabbage on some beetroot. We paid £19 for it. The macaroni cheese for one of the children was undercooked stodge with no cheese in it. Cod for the fish and chips wasn't fresh, the potatoes served as part of the main meals tasted as if they'd been sat under heat lights for hours. In fact nothing tasted fresh. The food took 70 minutes to arrive. Despite their being very few people in the restaurant. It used to be such a lovely place to eat, but we won't be returning after this afternoon.

We have enjoyed visiting here during the summer months for drinks, the location is lovely but unfortunately our latest visit for an evening meal was dissapointing. The mussels arrived luke warm and dry with no sauce and had to be returned. When the replacement arrived the sauce was thin and bland. We also felt as a sharing dish the portion size was quite small for 2 people. The service was also slow at times with a long wait between our starter and main course. We did receive a deduction from the bill but we are unlikely to visit again for food. The quality doesn't match the price tag I'm afraid.

Fish dishes are always lovely as well and they have a good selection for meat and non-meat eaters. Service can be a little slow when busy but fine if you’re having a nice leisurely dinner. The only reason I’ve given 4 instead of 5 as they no longer have a “bar” area where you can sit and have a drink. It’s seems it’s all food tables in the last year or so- it was nice to sit and have a drink before/after dinner. Recommended for dinner and heard they do good Sunday roasts

We've visited on a number of occasions when in this area over a few years.Previously it has been very good but sadly on this visit it has slipped. Service was very slow - over an hour from ordering to mains being served and half an hour from ordering sweets to their arrival. Waiting staff seemed harassed and not giving attention to details - no spoon to serve cauliflower cheese, forgetting one of the drinks, bringing rare beef when well done had been ordered... Slow roast belly pork, if roasted long and slow till the fat practically dissolves, can be excellent. Shorten the cooking time and the flavour doesn't develop and it's a bit chewy. Unfortunately this was the latter. I hope this was a one off because of staff issues and that it will recover it's previous standards.

We visit Blakeney once a year a make a point of having dinner at the Wiveton Bell, but this year we thought we would try one of their famous Sunday lunches instead. After a long bracing walk, we arrived for our reservation at 12.45 and were promptly shown to our table, asked for drinks, given menus etc. Drinks arrived quickly, the order was taken, starter for my husband, two beef roast dinners and dessert for me. Then we waited. My husband’s starter, a terrine, arrive half an hour later. They were busy but this seemed a bit long. People coming in after us were already on main courses. It was then we encountered the problem, our main course didn’t arrive, after an hour I asked the waitress politely where it was, she checked and it was ‘just coming’. 20 minimum later it was served. We had now been there an hour and a half. Tables had come and gone. Surely my dessert would be quick? No, we sat another half an hour and told the staff we were leaving without it! I understand they were busy but tables all around us were served three courses and had left. They took the dessert off the bill that I did not have and the service charge, although my husband did leave a tip. It is such a shame as we can not fault the food and have always loved coming to this restaurant. Please find a solution to this, maybe do not overbook Sunday lunch?

Lovely village and impressive Norfolk church, the Wiveton Bell is ideally located on the common. It’s more restaurant than a pub and on my first visit I was bowled over by the quality of the food, including the chalk stream trout. This time, I still loved the food - but was more conscious of how pricey it is, how the tables are crammed together and how understaffed they are. Our waitress was superb but there really need to be two of her as she was run off her feet.

Not great it was our second visit, the first visit the my partners meal arrived 15 minutes before mine, however the food was really nice so we put it down to a one off bad experience, This time however we arrived to be told they are busy and we need to be leaving in 1hr 30 mins, I had asked for a quiet table instead we was put on a table right next to the front door, the lady on the table next to us had undercooked prawns which was concerning! We then asked to be moved outside, which was at least peaceful due it being slightly chilly and us the only people outside, when the food was brought over we wasn’t offered sauces and I wasn’t brought a steak knife despite having steak, we then witnessed a waitress come to the barbecue and arrange someone else’s meal with bare fingers that she had just opened at least one door with god knows what germs on it! And who can guess what else she has touched, £12:50 was knocked off the bill but this doesn’t really make much difference to a poor experience so there won’t be a third visit.

Chips were crunchy and plenty of them. We discovered it by accident on our way home last year. Love the internal design. From reading other reviews its obvious they have acted on displaying information outside eg bbq nights etc. We will definitely return. Thought the waitresses were very knowledgeable about the beverages and food on offer.

Excellent. We didn't stay here, so we can't comment on the rooms. The location, food, and service were exceptional. We really enjoyed sitting in the garden before going to our table. We are going again before the end of our week's holiday.

We love the food here, especially the BBQ lobster. It can get busy at peak times, so expect (and enjoy) a leisurely meal if you're visiting at the weekend.

We had the three coarse Sunday lunch, the starters and desserts were lovely but the mains were obviously re-heated, tough as boots sirloin beef, roast potatoes very dry, gravy like water and the Yorkshire pudding so crispy you could snap it in half, it was only 3pm so not late, they had also ran out of apple sauce when pork belly is 1 of the only 2 main meat Sunday dishes available. Under staffed I think, I saw a girl putting dinners on wrong tables, taking them back to the kitchen pretty much the whole two hours we were there. The bill came to £145 with drinks and we drove away upset. No parking either. Gents has non-flushing urinals so the gents smells strong of urine, unhygienic I think for a food establishment. A very poor show. We will not return and we will go to the The Three Swallows next time.

We booked a family lunch to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. We were staying nearby in Holt. It’s an attractive pub in a lovely location. The waitresses who served us were very pleasant although a couple of things were forgotten or the wrong thing brought. The food was only average unfortunately. Gnocchi was bland and quite tasteless. Sunday roast was ok but nothing special. This was disappointing as it was a celebration. We probably wouldn’t go there again to eat.

We have been coming to this pub for many years but since the change over it appears to have gone down hill. The pub is beautiful, with a beautiful garden and lots of car parking. We come for Sunday lunch, and had a starter and one roast beef and pork belly. The curried soup was lovely but the roasts were very poor. The Yorkshire pudding tasted stale, and the pork belly was very undercooked. The veg on the side was very soggy, and felt like it had been sat around for ages (despite us having an early lunch at 12.15). The service was also incredibly slow, despite the restaurant not being full, and we had to follow up for our mains due to the time lapse. The staff were friendly however they seemed inexperienced and chaotic - you could constantly seen food being returned to the kitchen, which was alarming in itself, and the staff openly flapping. I won’t be coming back, and wouldn’t recommend you visiting.

We have dined here in the past and really enjoyed it. However today we had Sunday lunch with family and were disappointed. Staff were very friendly but everything was rather slow and chaotic. The waitress arrived with our main course before we had had our starters/snacks so we sent them back. We had ordered olives/bread/cheese sticks so nothing needing cooking, we then waited another 20 minutes before they arrived. The table next to us had ordered exactly the same after us and had theirs delivered. Surely we should had ours first as we had been waiting. The roast beef main course was very fatty and tough. Overall pleasant meal but do not think it warranted £17 as service charge.

This used to be a wonderful gastropub. Since being taken over by The Chestnut Group it has declined and declined. If you are looking to speed eat your meal with average food, packed in like sardines and enjoy complete indifference by staff then this is the place for you. We have frequented this lovely pub for years, had countless family celebrations, Christmas’s and New Years. Such a shame to see such a beautiful pub decline to such an extent. There are numerous other establishments in the area of Wiveton. I would advise you to try them instead.

Went for lunch on 12/9/24. Beautiful pub and location. The food was adequate but expensive. The young waiter requires training in customer service, because he was rude and off hand in his manner. Also building work was taking place outdoors which was very intrusive and impactful. Disappointing experience because so much of this place was gorgeous. Will not be coming back.

Thanks to all the friendly staff, we were made to feel very welcome. The garden was nice and so was the lunch. Harry deserves a special mention for going above and beyond to ensure our visit was a good one. Thanks 😊

Average at best. Frozen fish that tasted of nothing. Obvious low grade ingredients with profit margins at the forefront of every decision. £36 for a steak and when I asked if it was local, the answer was “I think so”. Following investigation, it transpired it came from “Suffolk”. In other words, what ever the large chain catering supplier delivered. Such a myriad of local produce, use it! Also, sort the fly problem out.

We stayed for a night in the Gallery Room. The room was clean, tidy and well equipped. The evening meal was very good with quite a selection of dishes. Breakfast in the morning finished our night away perfectly. The staff were very polite and helpful. I would certainly recommend the Wiverton Bell if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful break.

This place could be an absolute goldmine, however they need to increase the staffing levels to improve the service to fit the settings and food. I appreciate this is difficult when the weather is so unpredictable however they had 2 service staff on to accommodate around 50 customers and the staff were constantly inside when everyone was outside. From the front we thought it was closed so maybe encourage people to sit at the front first before you offer the back - both are equally picturesque. The setting is amazing, the pub was spotless, and the food excellent - I would suggest having more casual light bites - we all have varied appetites however for just a light bite/sandwich/wrap/salad whilst cycling we all really struggled to choose - perhaps introduce a Greek salad? We were visiting so thought the price was average however we were with local people who thought it was expensive especially v the service. Increase the staffing, make the menu a tiny bit more varied and you will hit your goldmine

Having spent a few days in the area with my mum. We chose the Wiveton Bell to eat dinner on our last night. The staff were lovely and the deco in the place was nice . Most importantly the food was great I couldn’t fault anything , we had the trout in a shrimp sauce with samphire .. followed by a lovely pannacotta and a good wine . Thank you I would recommend this place ..

We recently dined at this village pub and had a pleasant experience overall. The outdoor setting was lovely and the food was delicious. However, we were disappointed when we noticed an automatic gratuity added to our bill. We believe that tipping should be optional and requested for it to be removed, but unfortunately, the staff refused to do so. This policy left a negative impression on us and will deter us from returning in the future. We would have left a tip anyway but my view is it should NEVER be automatically put into a bill, and certainally not refused to be removed. Despite this issue, the atmosphere and cuisine were enjoyable.

What a fabulous place!! Situated right on the waterfront of the River Bure, where you can watch the comings and goings of all the boats and their occupants, most of whom know what they're doing, but some beer swilling oiks are absolutely clueless in the art of sailing and boat craft in general but seem hellbent on causing as much carnage as they can!! It's very comical to watch, and in the Swan inn you're in the perfect place to do so. The property itself is wonderful, genuinely old with loads of character, and the food is amazing, plentiful portions and of very good quality. We arrived almost at the end of lunch service after a boat trip on the Broads, but were greeted with warmth and cheer, offered a seat overlooking the river, and enjoyed a very fine, if belated lunch, which was demolished with gusto. Well worth a visit when in Horning. There are other hostelries in the village so it would be unfair to attempt to compare the Swan with the others, but our experience here was VERY favourable!!

This is our second stay at The Victoria, and for the second time the food and service has let down, what could have been a great stay. The vegetarian curry was so ordinary - undercooked broccoli and cauliflower with curry sauce. How easy would it have been to add some yogurt or almonds? A popadom? Something to make this worthy of being in the menu at £18. I had to ask for chutney, but the curry was still uninspiring. And no one - not any of the 4 staff who served us - asked if the meal was okay. Basic service etiquette, surely? All of this was passed on the following morning, but no recompense was offered - we still paid in full. We also had a disappointing meal last time, so for us this is our last stay at The Victoria. Shame, because the location is fab.

Excellent pub. Good food which exceeded our expectations. Great service from the lady behind the bar. Let us order despite us cutting it fine near cut off time just before 2PM and even allowed us to add desert. Warm and welcoming with roaring log fire. Ideal if you are visiting Hickling Broad nature reserve at the end of the road. We look forward to going back in the future.

We had a wonderful lunch at the Ship, Paula looked after us so well and made my little boy’s day. The pub has an amazing location and a great garden.
