The best restaurants serving British food in England

Finding it difficult to see where the great reviews come from . My husband and myself went in for an evening meal on a Monday evening. We were met at the bar by a “young lad” who pointed to a free table brought our drinks then we sat waiting for our order to be taken for 15 minutes. The order was taken by the blonde lady who was short,abrupt and frosty in her manner . There weee only a handful of us in there and the blonde lady,maybe land lady ,walked past numerous times but didn’t acknowledge us. When our food did arrive it was very bland . My husband had steak and pie,a small slice,frozen chips and VERY plain boiled vegetables with I suspect ‘bisto’gravy. I had chicken Caesar salad ,it was fine but Nothing more . I asked if I may have extra Parmesan and the young lad just dumped it in front of me on a plate and said nothing. The pub is very much lacking in customer service.No body came over and asked if everything was ok,or if they could get us anything else despite them walking past our table multiple times . We asked for the bill and it was brought over to our table .Nobody explained ,as they didn’t when we arrived there about the ordering procedure,whether we were to pay at the bar or if someone would come to take payment at our table.We got fed up trying to get the lady’s attention so left our money on the table(as is done in many establishments )when paying cash. As we were leaving the barman called to us ‘you havnt paid!!’how very unprofessional,rude and unfriendly .we explained to him we had . Nobody said goodbye or asked if everything had been ok. There are some fabulous eateries in stratford with delicious food and lovely service . The thatched Tavern is definately not one of them.

Yet again food missing from my uber order, 3rd time ordering and 3rd time missing items. When you call no one seems to want to help or acknowledge your order. Waste of time I shall be going elsewhere

We were in the area and visited il basilico. It was great - very good food and very friendly staff. Husband enjoyed his food so much that he had a second mains as a desert! And he ate it all!

Wow! What a place, what a location. We found this place by chance as the tide stopped us going any further. Stunning place inside, great views out across the sand. Lovely comfortable seating. Doggy friends are extreamely well catered for with treats, water and even blankets! We didn't try the food as we were just stopping for a drink, but we'll defo be back at some point. Sadly not a great selection of beers but then not many places in Cornwall do for some reason, but they did have cocktails on tap!

We had a lovely meal at the Piebald Inn in the dog friendly section with our dog Juni. Staff were really friendly and helpful with my intolerance. We had two of the pie packs ups after seeing the size of the pies coming out (you get half the pie with your meal and half to take home). We had the Moorland & Mountain and Campolina both vegetarian pies and both were lovely can't wait to finish them for lunch tomorrow! Will be back to try some more veggie pies off the menu.

Special, organised meal. Starter was a lobster soufflé, followed by a tradition Xmas turkey main & finishing off with a Xmas pudding. All the food was tasty, beautifully cooked & presented plus excellent service in a lovely traditional pub. What more could you ask for!

Well run pub. Clean, tidy and good service. Football on TV and a range of pub food options. Parking also on site.

We had a party of 4, plus a wheelchair and a toddler in a buggy - the staff was so nice, professional and accommodating.

This place treats you to not only wonderful drinks and delectable food but also to warm embraces from the people operating it. A homely institution where one feels at peace. Highly recommend a visit!

As overners we can't eat here as often as we would like but always try to get to the Cocks when on the Island. In October we had some of our family with us and the Sunday roast meals were excellent and much enjoyed. Just two of us back recently and our meals were excellent. Fish pie for my wife and the sizzler for me, really good. We made sure by booking and while we were there sadly some unbooked people were unable to get in so we do recommend booking to ensure you can get in.. Staff are friendly and efficient. Back soon and thanks to all at the Fighting Cocks.

Made very welcome by all the staff. Very enjoyable couple of halves in there on my pub crawl of the general area. Only disappointed I couldn't spend longer ! There's a small to medium size theatre out back, an upstairs with inside seating and a small roof garden and the venue is LGBTQ+ friendly. Definite recommendation from me 👍💗

WORST BREAKFAST IVE EVER HAD, AND IVE HAD A FEW IN MY TIME, THE CHEEPEST WATERY BEANS, TINNED SLICED MUSHROOMS, UNDER COOKED EGGS (COLD YOLK) AND WAY OVERPRICED, IM SURE THE LADY USED TO HAVE THE DETLIN DINER WHICH WAS VERY GOOD, CHEEP INGREDIENTS, NOT COOKED WELL, WONT BE BACK
