What a little gold mine this is. Right opposite a caravan/camp site so very captive audience. However, they didn't sit back on heir laurels. We met friends there who were staying at the site opposite and had a great meal with them. We started with whitebait and followed with chicken breast with ham and mushrooms smothered in cheese and I had gammon egg pineapple and chips. Really good portions and none of us managed to finish our meal and needless to say we didn’t have a pudding. The pub is very well patronised and I believe it is open all day. Well worth a visit.

Drove past this place on our way back to our cottage on Sunday evening after a very long walk. We stopped here and asked if they could fit us in on the off chance, they could if we ate straight away and within 30 mins the pub was packed. We weren’t expecting much seeing as the pub only opens 3 days a week. We both had lamb Sunday dinner & it was AMAZING!! We eat out in Yorkshire most Sundays and this roast was the best we’d had for as long as we can remember! The portion was huge and I took the leftovers home and there was enough lamb the next night for two of us!! Veg & yorkshires were all cooked to perfection! Well done chef!!! 👌we also took our dog which wasn’t a problem. Nice & friendly staff. I rarely review but thought this pub deserved my effort.

Booked to stay overnight at Crossfell Caravan Park on route to Scotland. So glad we did! The Fox Inn is directly across the road from the camp site, so we decided to pop in for a drink (another good decision). The staff and locals alike are so friendly and welcoming, so much so, we decided to stay and eat (any excuse not to cook in our motorhome). The menu was varied, but we finally decided on Crispy Beef with Chilli Sauce & Egg Fried Rice and Chicken Kiev with homemade Chips. Two delicious, freshly made meals, generously portioned and at a reasonable price!! The pudding (Easter Cheesecake) was also scrumptious! We would happily recommend to family and friends and will definitely call again when next in the area.

What a lovely run family establishment. Set in a beauty peaceful village with wonderful views surrounding. We stayed across the road in their Touring Pitch Site for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed and would not hesitate to stay again. The Fox Inn is beautifully decorated with a friendly atmosphere. One evening my husband did not feel well enough to go out. So this was over come with the suggestion of a take away meal for him which was piping hot as nothing was too much trouble for them. The portions are very generous of great food at reasonable cost. The menu has plenty to choose from with local ales served much to my husband's delight. We wish Sid, Katy and all the staff all the very best.

This was the nearest Pub to our holiday rental property. What a pleasant surprise to find great food and local ale deep in the Cumbrian countryside. I always read the lowest rated reviews to get an idea of how restaurants might be. When comments as ridiculous as the two I read. Then I felt we’d find a reasonable pleasant Pub.

Superb campsite with a great little pub attached. There’s also a caravan park. This means the pub is packed and kids run riot outside. We had a great meal with generous portions of lovely home cooked food but the constant banging of the bar door plus the football against our window and wall near our table was really distracting. Great sticky toffee pudding Didn’t stay for the live music as it was too busy and too many kids.

We had The Fox Inn recommended by friends, so last Sunday we set off to arrive just after the opening time of 6pm. After a warm greeting at the bar we were shown to a table in the dining room with our drinks. Everything about this pub is friendly, we ordered our food and were served very quickly, the waitresses are super - nothing too much trouble. I have to say we both enjoyed a super meal, freshly cooked and piping hot. The portions are large so we couldn't manage a sweet but we will definitely return to rectify this. If you are need feeding and are in the Ousby area go no further, head straight to The Fox. Thanks a lot guys, we'll be back.

The food arrived was healthy proportions and very tasty. First class food and service. The ‘Fox Burger’ is a meal and a half. Sirloin Steak was a good cut of meat. Will not hesitate to go again ( most probably tonight!)

The Fox Inn is on its way up - new owners are working extremely hard to get this place a name for itself. Stayed over on Saturday night - bed was massive, lovely fresh clean linen and lovely soap, shower gel and shampoo/conditioner (the personal touches you remember). Dinner was lovely - portions are huge and sadly never even got to try a dessert - garlic bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar is just gorgeous. Breakfast was good quality and served on a heated plate - which makes a difference for us slow eaters - Thanks David and Sabrina - if in the area again - will definitely be back. When the bedrooms are fitted with en-suite this would be a 5 star rating without a doubt!!

My wife and I made a last minute booking to re-visit The Fox and explore the Fells around there. New hosts, Dave and Sabrina, were marvellous. They are very friendly and nothing was too much bother for them. The double room we stayed in, with our Bedlington Terrier, was well equipped, clean and comfortable. The tea, coffee, milk and sugar we had used was replaced in the morning after the room was spruced up. The breakfast was really good and the food in the restaurant was also excellent; we both had steak and both were cooked to perfection. Everything combined, the weather, the hospitality and the walks, made our weekend one to remember. We will definitely be back.

We have been visitors to Ousby for many years and our choice of caravan site was because of the pub being a stone throw from site.Having been at The Fox Inn when it was necessary to book to wondering if we would even find the pub open, the last time a year ago, the place was rundown, cigarette ends outside, everywhere (a pet hate of mine) sticky tables and the landlords perched on stools behind the bar we ate and left, can I just say the steaks were excellent.July 2015, we returned after hearing the pub had changed hands and was doing well and also checking out tripadvisor we headed down and was so welcoming to see it had all been cleaned up outside and inside, what a bright cheerful welcome so enjoyed the food, Sirloin Steak was spot on, Gammon and Curry ace. Brownie and ice cream was second choice but will be back for the cheesecake, good to see offering a lighter choice for a meal in baquettes, good pub grub and hearing that Sunday Carvery is value for money so looking forward to having this.Well done and was so nice to see locals enjoying meals and catching up. Will be back.xx

Under New Management! The Fox is serving food again, new landlord/lady Dave and Sabrina are very welcoming and have put food back on. I visit regularly, having a holiday home in Ousby. The pub has been busy the last few times we've been in and it looks like the new couple are really making a go of it. There's a new chef who has put together a decent menu and the food is spot on with portion sizes that would fill the hungriest of people. I had a lovely curry and everyone in my party really enjoyed the food! Another plus point is that the real ale is kept and served well. The restaurant side has had a new carpet and a lick of paint and I believe the bar side is getting a makeover very soon! I'm happy to show my support and help Dave and Sabrina make a go of it! Good luck!

Recently had a holiday in Memberby and this pub was recommended by our cottage owner. We also saw advertisements on local roads advertising food. Imagine our disappointment then when we turned up on a Sunday evening to find one person in the Pub and were informed that "we only serve food on a Friday and Saturday" and this was despite the board outside saying that food was available. Talk about false advertising! Perhaps the food is good but we wouldn't know.

The Fox Inn is only serving food Friday & Saturday nights at the moment but is obviously doing something right as it was packed both nights. We got in just before 9pm on the Friday and the landlady was very forgiving and squeezed us in. One steak and one beef lasagna ordered and we sat down with a nice pint and a decent red wine. The steak was divine - my other half was well impressed and the lasagna was delicious...both served with a pile of chips and salad, onion rings etc. The landlady, Denise, was very chatty and friendly and made sure we were happy and our drinks were filled up. We liked it so much we booked again for the Saturday night and boy, were we pleased we had! It was absolutely filled to the rafters. Steak again (once he likes something that's it) and a chicken and choriza lasagna for me this time....delicious. Full marks to the staff for keeping it all running smoothly when very busy and for still finding time to chat with the customers. We really hope they succeed as they've just had the pub from the beginning of this year so have had to work hard at bringing custom back. If they continue like this, they will get there! And yes, we will return!

The Fox has changed hands over the past few months and the new landlords are certainly making a go of it. The real ales are back with a new Head Chef and a new enthusiasm to make this remote country pub the success it should be. We ate here for Sunday lunch with a few glasses of wine. We had massive portions of roast beef, homemade yorkies and a huge selection of veg. All of the wine was priced at £9.95 per bottle, regular household bottles of Lindemans Merlot and similar. If you've been here before and didn't like it, give the new guys a chance. Great little pub with a clever chef and a nice relaxing atmosphere. What's not to like, less formal and more authentic than some of it's local rivals.

Had a meal at the Fox 2 years ago and it was great. However the return visit 2 years later was far from great. We booked a table for 5 for an evening meal. Good job we did. Not that it was busy with diners but it was busy. The landlord seemed to have invited his whole family & friends and they just took the pub overs. Kids everywhere and all running riot. The parents were as bad. The noise was terrible. You couldn't even hear the champions league final which was on in the next room. The landlord seemed to do everything and completely lost his way with the tickets. Over an hour for the food, and we are talking things with chips so not rocked science! They even served a noisy bunch on the next table first when we had come in before them!!! Food was cheap and ok when it came and he knocked some off the bill. But that is not the point! We came for a quiet meal at a country pub whilst on holiday. The signs at the beginning were not great. Ages to get a drink over his mates. Staff were up and down feeding their kids in the lounge which was a mess with bags and toys. He forgot what I had ordered. Tickets all over the place. They didnt even know how to work the TV. I had to do this myself. The lad has a lot of work to do!

A warm welcome awaits you at The Fox Inn - well that's what the sign says , but in reality it's quite a different scenario . We used to frequent this pub a lot in the past especially when Sid and Katy had it then over the years it has changed hands and the results have been variable but none quite as bad as now . We arrived on a cold night to find a very mediocre burning in the grate and no heating on at all !!! The story was that the heating oil had frozen-- if this was the case then why not deploy a few electric heaters ??? Anyway there was worse to come - no real ale and no red wine !!! Yes can you believe it a pub with no red wine ? Had the pub been very busy ? No only about 6 locals huddled round the fire and none of them drinking red wine . Just what are they playing at . I think it's definitely time to say Gavin and Michelle you are the weakest links GOODBYE !!!

We recently stayed on a two night Travelzoo deal. The hotel is finished to a lovely stylish clean standard. The pub food was lovely, fresh and tasty. We did find it a little steeper price wise to what we are familiar with. The room was nicely finished and comfortable. The light did pour through the window when cars drove past at night and also under the door from the hallway which kept me awake. The radiator in the room was technical and it wouldn’t come on so we were happy to have an electric heater too. Breakfast was continental, it was nice but we felt it was missing some meat and maybe more exciting cheeses. The coffee was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful but out of the three we dealt with we felt one of them wasn’t so professional and sincere. Shouting things to the kitchen before the door was closed and generally a bit rude. The check in /out times were a touch late/early. Otherwise well done Dukes head and travelzoo too.
