The Dukes Head in Eden

We booked a meal in the restaurant and it was really good. We came on Sunday and the roast was delicious. The vegetarian nut roast was amazing and yummy. Very friendly staff.

Always friendly and helpful, amazing place will be back.

Wonderful, sincere, warm reception (especially for the dog). Perfect location for Carlisle, Penrith, the Lakes, historical site seeing, walking and relaxing. Great friendly bar on the Friday night, Fabulous food. Refurbished with character to a really high standard. Tom and his family were quite rightly proud of their inn, and happy to go the extra mile to ensure you have a memorable stay. We’ll be back.

Booked Sunday roast with family roast expensive and not very good in our opinion beef dry will not re vist mail staff not happy when I said it was a shame the food was not good because the pub was lovely looking ect but there was not many there for a roast

Distinctly average experience, nothing wrong thank you but nothing to remember it for. The staff were friendly and helpful and the meals as described but nothing made me wish to return.

Very nice refurbished hotel, we only had a drink but it's very friendly and seems a nice place to stay.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Beds are super comfortable, service is exemplary and all the staff were so helpful. We would thoroughly recommend anyone in the area arrange to stay here.

I spent New years eve with my family here last night. From the moment we arrived there was a glass of prosecco and a warm welcome. The atmosphere was very friendly. The karaoke was great. There are some great singers in Armathwaite, especially "the spice girls" performing for one night only. There was a selection of meats, cheeses, crackers and crudites were on the tables to snack on during the evening. The drink was flowing, the singing and dancing went on until the early hours and we were having such a great time that we hardly noticed when it was time to go home. A wonderful night.

Had a brief visit after a long walk. The sign said they were closed but they allowed us in. Nice warm and inviting atmosphere. Nice beer and staff. Sorry we couldn't stay for food and more drinks.

A fantastic Sunday lunch, roast beef was delicious with amazing Yorkshire pudding and interesting vegetables. Sticky toffee pudding also soft with a delicious sauce. Overall an excellent lunch

Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday. The roast lamb dinner was superb and very reasonably priced. Good staff and a decent selection of drinks on offer. I would highly recommend the food.

Just got home after a fabulous weekend for the second time this year at the Dukes Head Inn. The accommodation is beautiful, the bar and food is fabulous and the hosts Tom and Stephen are amazing. Both stays we have been made to feel extremely welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Lovely beer garden at the back of the property and a lovely riverside walk just a short distance away. Armathwaite also has a train station on the Carlisle to Leeds line, so handy for day trips to nearby villages. Definitely recommend and we will be back ❤️

Nice setting. A bit odd that despite the it being quiet/not busy that we had to order from a particular side of the bar. Both of sides of the bar had people eating. It shouldnt be difficult to be welcoming... We only live a few miles away. Could be really good I would think.

Delightful hostelry adjacent to the River Eden. Only called for a quick drink and it was a good experience with nice facilities such as dining room and carpark etc. Will definitely return and plan for a meal next time.

If I'm paying 15 quid for a small slice of lasagne and salad - I'd expect the "salad" to be more than a handful of lettuce chucked on the side. Everything tasted okay, but at those prices you'd expect more attention to detail.

Lovely warm atmosphere, beautiful food, open fires and friendly doggies. Would recommend.

We found this gorgeous little village and great pub by chance! We were lucky enough to have lunch here. The staff.. The food.. The decor and the ambiance were fantastic. A big heads up for Sandra and all the staff for making us so welcome. We will definately be back!!

Really nice spot, lots of seating and really clean and nicely decorated. We shared a pizza in the garden. It was delicious and the staff were very very friendly. I wish we lived closer so we could enjoy more often.

One of two pubs in the village. We visited this one first a couple of times but found the young member of bar staff to be a bit frosty so spent the rest of our stay eating and drinking at the Fox & Pheasant down the road which we enjoyed far more. Well furnished with good outside facilities in a good sized garden area with car parking. A decent pub with a good menu but let down by the staff member that served us when we visited.

We stayed here as a last minute booking. I cannot praise the owners hospitality to myself and my family. A beautiful pub with excellent rooms, everything finished to a very high standard! So much so, this will always be our 1st choice when we next make our return to this pretty village in the Eden Valley! A big thank you to you all and we will definitely see you again soon!

Fantastic service, extremely friendly and welcoming staff, some of the best food had anywhere in the lakes in a long time, Highly recommend staying here or even just eating or having a pint in the idyllic beer garden.

What a lovely find. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at The Duke's Head. Our family room (Number 3) was really comfortable and well appointed. We loved the decor and all the little touches. There was a nice beer garden with a covered area. The room was quiet and we had a good night's sleep. The Inn has been largely refurbed and was really clean and well finished. Lots of lovely Cumbrian Tweed! It is in such a pretty location, and really convenient for the M6 too. We enjoyed a walk by the river and the countryside on the doorstep is lovely. Plenty of nice little villages nearby to explore with easy access to Penrith and Carlisle. Breakfast was very good with several nice choices. We opted for the Cumberland Breakfast and the pancakes which were great. We chatted at length with the lovely owners and were made to feel very welcome. Tom the Manager,, even on his day-off, was super helpful with our last minute booking change. The pub is family owned and all the team were so warm and welcoming. We'll definitely be back and wish them well in these challenging times.

Very friendly good atmosphere and great food

This place is absolutely fabulous, the rooms are very well presented and the overall building and atmosphere is great, I was on a business trip and didn't check in until 10pm I was greeted by the staff and shown my room, after a 9hr trip I was so pleased to see such a lovely room, the following morning I had a great breakfast and spoke to the owners, when I go to the lakes near by I will taking my wife and we will be staying at the Dukes head, I can't wait .

My partner and I went to the Dukes Head for an evening meal as its one of the closest pubs to home to be open. This was our first visit and will be our last.The menu was, understandably reduced, to just burgers and pizzas, we both ordered burgers & 'seasonal fries' for around £12-13. These arrived in boxes (NOT ON PLATES) the fries were the frozen, deep fat fried-type and frankly, KFC or McDonald's would've been nicer, not to mention, better value. We went to the Fox & Pheasant across the river last week where we had a much better experience and will go there in future when we are in Armathwaite. Being charged £12 for burger and cheap, nasty fries in a box and not even provided with napkins, was the worst pub meal I have ever had. I don't expect to pay pub prices for a fast food meal.

Now let's not be silly with asking for reviews on places l just happen to park outside for 5 minutes. Its a pub and we are still in.lockdown... so get a grip!!!!

An excellent stay in the Dukes Head Inn in Armathwaite, the staff, without exception, couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and this was best demonstrated by their calm and measured response to a slight medical emergency. They really couldn't have done more for us.Rooms are a bit small, inevitable given the age of the building, but very comfortable and well decorated. The food was very well cooked and an excellent breakfast was included in the price. Given our visit was in the middle of the Covid crisis (although not during lockdown), the Inn did everything it could to make our stay extremely enjoyable.

Absolutely fantastic stay. As a family of four with our dog we were looked after impeccably. Our room was beautiful, the bed was huge and super comfy. Our girls were on good camp beds. The food was amazing both for dinner and breakfast. The attention to detail is fantastic and the owners and staff are lovely. Really can't fault the place, it was perfect and had a lovely river walk from the doorstep👌5*

Staying near-by at Drybeck Farm for my daughter's birthday. Popped in for an evening meal and the staff cottoned on it was her birthday and came out with a cake, candle and singing Happy Birthday - lovely thoughtful touch. Food was lovely too!

My partner and I stayed here with our dog Toby last weekend and found it to be absolutely perfect. The whole pub has recently been refurbished throughout as well as new owners (Stuart and Tom) who couldn't do enough for us. The room we stayed in (No 1) was beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable. The food is really good and the service from everyone was excellent. They welcome (well behaved) dogs so it was a real treat to be able to take him away with us for a change. The scenery and lovely riverside walks nearby are spectacular especially at this time of the year with the gorgeous Autumn colours.We couldn't recommend it highly enough - you must go but don't tell everyone as with only 6 rooms, we want to go back!

This Inn is tremendous. The owners have invested a lot of money refurbishing the whole place. The food is great, fantastic ambiance, real woodburner. The rooms are extremely comfortable and very clean. The staff can't do enough for you. Delicious breakfasts. Dog friendly. We'll definitely be back.

Decided to stop over on way back from Scotland. It turned out that the owners of this pub used to own a pub on the outskirts of Carlisle that we frequently visited when we had a caravan near by. What a great find. They've completely overhauled this place and it's gorgeous. The rooms, as well as the pub/restaurant are newly renovated. So comfortable. The food is delicious. It's dog friendly. Real wood burning stoves.Can't fault this place. We'll definitely be back. ❤️

We had a take away. The food was very enjoyable and tasty

This was our second time at the venue but our first overnight.The first time we visited was for food only and based on the food alone we decided to go back.We have friends who live locally so doing an overnight made sense.The first time the good was great, bespoke to my personal taste. The second time the food was just as incredible as just as bespoke as the first time (I have an extremely spice able pallet l) which Tom was easily able to satisfy.The rooms were compact and bijou but immaculately clean and finished to an exemplary standard. The team are bound by the same restrictions as other places, however Stuart and the team made the 10pm curfew easy to manage. Our expectations were managed from the outset so the 930 last orders didn’t feel so bad as we knew it was coming.The atmosphere in the place is electric due to customer management and service, outstanding food and small but perfectly formed accommodation.For such a small team they’re big players and I’d be challenged to eat, drink or stay anywhere else in the area.Outstanding and thank you. Unfortunately we’ll be back

We stayed overnight and met with friends for dinner. The rooms were immaculately clean and finished to a very high standard. The bed was incredibly comfortable. 4 of us dined on the night, all of us had two courses and three bottles of wine, a few beers and a couple of spirits to round of the evening. The final bill was surprising for what we had ate and drank, real value for money.Moving on to breakfast, it was incredible. Bacon rolls on beautifully fresh Ciabatta is a must, no to forget the Cumberland sausages.The service provided by Tom and Stuart was absolutely top notch, nothing was too much of a problem for them.Can not recommend enough. Very well worth a visit.

Don’t hesitate to book a table as the food and service is great. The pub is clean and well cared for and the beer garden is lovely. This is one of the best pubs in The Eden Valley.
