Xavier's Cafe and Wine in Eden

So this is actually one of our favourite places in Penrith. The atmosphere in the venue is fantastic, the drinks and food are good and we do enjoy going there. However, the service is really poor……… not sure why but our experience ego date is: (1) have never once in around ten visits (since we moved to Penrith) been served at our table. The annoying part is we see the waiter going. Round tables asking if he can get anything for anyone….. but in all our visits this has never happened to us. We have to go to the counter and ask (2) so why? Is it because we are a same sex couple? Is it because of another reason So our dilemma it whilst we really do live this place the “ customer service” really lets it down……. I think my patience will run at some point …. But it’s Penrith and this place is a catch. Come on guys…… get it together a bit more! …. We really want to enjoy this. Smile… say hello and welcome…… would make our day 😉

When I walked in, I couldn’t believe how good it looked. On top of that, they give you great friendly service, and always are enthusiastic and happy to recommend something for you. Then there is the food, oh my goodness, I couldn’t believe how good the food was. It was mouth watering and all freshly homemade, but for me my favourite was the nachos. Oh how I loved them, and you could tell that they were homemade because they were still warm and bubbly. Oh it was amazing. I really would recommend this place for eating. If I could, I would give it a twenty star rating.

Make sure you ask for wine list so you know what you going to get charged

We stayed at the Corner Guest House, and the owner highly recommended Xavier's, and we were not disappointed. The food, drinks, vibe, and friendly staff have made Xavier's a must. Do it, you will not be disappointed. Taking into consideration what we ordered at our table of 4, the bill was very reasonable.

We had our daughters 21st birthday party here . Top team running it . Couldn't fault them from start to finish. Many thanks Xaviers 😊 🙏 👌👏👍

Cosy and warm place for good quality food & selected wine.

Fabulous place, great design and great atmosphere. Good selection of wines and cocktails. I am an artist and showed an interest in the period items and features and the owner very kindly took time out to discuss them with me, even though he was busy. We enjoyed it so much we called in on the following evening.

This place is an Oasis in Penrith. A perfect place for a glass of wine beautifully surrounded with a unique and intriguing atmosphere

We went in for an after dinner drink. Service was good and a lovely atmosphere. The wine was of good quality and worth the price. Lovely decor, the glass floor that allows you to look into the basement is a nice touch. I will come here again, thank you.

Cute place with good snacks and great wine selection

Strange. Advertises itself on its website as somewhere that serves fine wine and Tapas, but doesn’t serve tapas on a Sunday and is only open 4 days a week? Nothing on the website to say it doesn’t serve tapas on a Sunday, so when I booked here with my partner we had one drink and left without ordering any food as I felt like I’d been misled. Do you expect people to ring up and check whether you’re serving the food you advertise? The bloke running the place seemed to suggest they don’t serve tapas on a Sunday and that it’s sort of well known this is the case - which it may be if you’re from the area. I’m sure it’s a lovely place to eat, it’s nice inside, although the booths aren’t comfy - there’s absolutely no back support.

What a wonderful friendly place! Came for a wedding tea. Nothing was too much trouble (I have a dairy allergy) and the food was delicious and plentiful. Will definitely be back!

An unexpected discovery. Xavier's has a really good selection of fine wines both for drinking in and out (with corresponding and fair prices), run by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic owner who's prepared, given the time, to sit down an talk about taste. I came away with a couple of nice Burgundies (Chanson) but had to reign in my own enthusiasm there. The clientele was happy and relaxed. Xavier's has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. A definite stop-off next time we're down this way. We could not resist second visit later in the evening when we were more impressed with the decor and the considerable thought put into it, the warmth and companionability. We came away with a few mire bottles!

On my way home from Yorkshire and enduring a wind lashed and rain soaked motorcycle journey I decided to stop in Penrith for fuel and food. I spotted Xaviers and decided to have lunch there. What a fantastic decision it was. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was absolutely first class. I will definitely be back for a full meal and would highly recommend Xaviers.

We’ve been coming here for the past 6 months since moving to the area and absolutely adore it. Easily the best bar in Penrith but it’s more than that. The food is authentic and excellent but the service is top notch. Ben and Jack always go the extra mile to make sure we are happy and catered for. The most recent visit, on arrival we were greeted with warmth friendliness and a bottle of wine already on our table which was a recommendation from Ben. It’s small bits like this that go a long way. Jack is very knowledgeable on cigars and their collection is excellent. We will always return as this place already has so many happy memories for us.

Absolutely fantastic place to hang out either as a couple, with my family, or with friends. Wine choice is always on point, with very knowledgeable staff who can always recommend me the best choice. The food is also pretty special, and I've always been left feeling satisfied. Always look forward to coming back!

I come here most weekends and I'm never disappointed. The guys behind the bar are always friendly and they make a top notch whiskey sour. Great drinks, excellent decor *and* bloody good nuts.

Such a stylish gorgeous bar, everyone is so friendly and they'll even make cocktails that aren't on the menu, nothing is to much trouble for them. Fab place highly recommended, decor is stunning.

Having walked past this place lots of times we decided to pop in, from the outside Xavier’s looks like a very smart posh wine bar, once inside you immediately feel comfortable and relaxed! It’s a lot bigger than you realise with nice window seats and cosy individual seating options, they serve breakfasts and tapas etc with coffees and tea, but their wine selection is very impressive indeed! Lots of things impress you as you look around, antique’s pictures etc but the bar itself is really good and if you look down you’ll realise there is a glass floor that covers the cellar area that holds the more expensive bottles, Very much worth taking the time to try it out.

Excellent night: great service, great cocktails, great staff, and a great cigar selection. We got our selves into a pickle and missed out taxi. Kindly, one of the bar staff (we are sorry we've forgotten his name, too many cocktails. He has long hair, very friendly. Maybe Jack or James?) offered to give us a lift to the hotel. I last visited here back in 2019, & the decor is still impressive as before, however it was a big let down on the food & drink. For drinks, we went for a flat white & hot chocolate with cream & marshmallows, however the hot chocolate was barely warm. As for the food, we had scrambled eggs on toast, this being salty. We also had a salmon & cream cheese bagel, but the bagel was not toasted or anything, basically straight out of the packet, & very basic. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be visiting again!

Always feel special and lovely place to relax with friends

We had a lovely tapas selection and several cocktails. Everything was lovely. The tapas menu is fab. I wanted one of everything. We weren’t rushed through our food and had a really nice chilled evening. We will definitely be back.

We visited on a very busy night near Christmas. Atmosphere is fantastic, great choice of drinks and we had food off the tapas menu which was brilliant great to be able to try lots of different things. Staff were very pleasant and helpful despite being very busy. We were advised on wine choice which was great as there is plenty to chose from. We will be back again

Visited here 2 times. Once before a couple of years ago, got order wrong and staff not very helpful. Tonight just not very friendly, especially manager! Will not be visiting ever again.

Disappointed with the service received. Wasn’t provided any menu. Overcharged for a wine we didn’t order, when questioned, told we were charged for a different wine however ‘it’s all the same anyway!’ Didn’t really understand this comment from the ‘manager’ and expected an explanation as to why we were charged for a more expensive wine that we never ordered! It’s a shame as we were planning to come back for dinner, however the service was so disappointing, we waited for over half an hour to be served (even though we were the only people in the there!) And to be faced with a bill for a more expensive wine we didn’t order - icing on the cake! We won’t be back and would not recommend.

We called here for a drink before going for a meal with my 12 year old son. The cocktails were so gorgeous that we called again after our meal. The staff were helpful and so friendly. They made a mock tail to order for my son and my Long Island iced tea was amongst the best I’ve ever had. If I’m ever back in Penrith this would be the first place I visit!

To echo what others have said, this is a gem of a place. Excellent service and a wide range of drinks.

Headline: This establishment is a MUST visit if you are in Penrith. Don't even think twice, just go! I would easily give this more stars if I could. We were visiting Penrith and intrigued by the description of Xavier's online, but it did not disappoint. We were served by Jack, who offered to make us any cocktail we liked. As we weren't cocktail experts, he asked us some questions to get an idea of what we liked, and we both ended up with cocktails we were really happy with. We tried a few of their wines as well, served by the impressively knowledgeable Ben - they really do have a massive wine collection - and were impressed by their choices for us. The tapas is excellent too. You really can't go wrong with camembert. And then we had a lovely chat about the Jubilee with the owner, James. Thanks so much to James, Jack, Ben and Clauda for a lovely experience. If we're ever back in the Lake District, Xavier's has been added to our list of return destinations!

This place obviously does well with drinkers but how they manage to keep up the food side of things from what I saw is questionable. We were the only ones in the place and asked for 2 'Full Xaviers'. This took 40 minutes. The food was ok. Nothing special. On paying the bill I mentioned the seemingly long wait time, and the response was 'well you wouldn't want undercooked sausages would you?'!! Any cafe that takes 40 minutes to produce two full Englishes' won't be in business for long. I wouldn't like to consider how long we would have had to wait had it been remotely busy. Sadly, the only disappointment wasn't the food. Our server had food in his beard which was unprofessional. No condiments on the table. Had to ask for them. We asked for water for the table and were given one glass of water! Maybe it was to share??? We were not asked about any more drinks. Our plates were not cleared. On leaving the toilets were grim. They clearly hadn't bothered to clean them after a busy Saturday night. If you don't have a bladder and you like a drink this is the perfect place.

This is an excellent cafe/wine bar. The staff are so friendly. I was driving when I visited with friends and I had a gorgeous mocktail. They also serve tapas, which is very good.

Only called in by chance on bank holiday weekend, what a lucky chance it proved to be. What a hidden gem this proved to be. Not only was the lunch menu superb but we found a treasure trove of Art Deco and mouseman artefacts, with the added pleasure of meeting the owner who was a devotee of all things Art Deco. The decor and ambience of the wine bar is such a pleasure and the care of the staff is such a marvel to find in this day and age. We will certainly be visiting again and would advise others to do likewise . Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you

Very nice place with a glass floor near the entrance showing off the wine cellar below. The wood panels around the booth style seats and lighting give the place an upmarket look, as do the prices... £22 for two glasses of wine. What class is all about. The decor, the atmosphere, the feel, the vibe! You walk in you feel special. Relaxed is a under statement. You come back again and they know your name, that is special and rare. I've been a chef of 27 years and I couldn't knock out the flavours of the burger I just had! Simply amazing. Super wine bar with a small but delicious food menu. Slightly difficult if you have allergies or want dairy-free but manageable. Beautiful place which is made for relaxing in but also fascinating with its vast array of bottles on display both along a wall and down in the cellar where the fizzies are kept. You can view this from the clear glass beneath your feet. If you're lucky, you'll be told all about the James Bond collections - and their prices!

La joya de la corona de Penrith. Me encanta este lugar por su increíblemente genial anfitrión James y su acogedor equipo. El ambiente es maravilloso: cómodo, cálido y muy bien iluminado. Tiene una exhibición siempre cambiante de gloriosas piezas antiguas y relajante música de fondo. Es un gran lugar para tomar café y pasteles solo con un buen libro, ya que es para una fiesta de amigos / familiares para una comida y una muestra de la extensa bodega, ginebras o lista de cócteles. El chef es muy hábil y produce excelentes platos elaborados con ingredientes locales de primera calidad. Los pasteles caseros locales se encuentran entre los mejores que he probado. Altamente recomendado.

Dropped in just for a drink last Saturday lunchtime with my wife and our daughter who was making a pre Christmas visit from Paris. Asked to see a wine list but was told they didn't have one as the wines were changed frequently. We were then asked what wine we wanted; red or white, dry, very dry etc.The ladies wanted a dry white wine and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was offered.They asked for a glass but were told that it would be cheaper to buy a bottle than have three glasses. However I was on coffee, being the driver, but a bottle was ordered on the basis that what wasn't drunk could be taken away. At no time were prices offered..

I was shocked today with some of the service I received today at Xavier’s as previous visits have been really positive. It was very quiet, my mum and I were the only people in for lunch. The server behind the bar was on his phone the entire time we were there, even when we had dirty dishes on our table which needed clearing. I went up to ask him about the baby changing facilities as there was a ladder in front of the disabled toilet door, the server looked at me blankly, didn’t move from his spot and said ‘there is changing facilities in there and to make myself at home’ implying I should move the ladder myself to access the toilet to change my baby. It was fortunate I wasn’t on my own because I wouldn’t have been able to hold my baby and move the ladder at the same time. I think this is absolutely appalling service and I would think twice about returning.

Quiet Sunday breakfast, big breakfast was very nice, smashed avo had great flavours, very good flat white, and really nice decor and service
