Staff rude, asked for no veg with a meal for the server to give us a funny stare and then said they would have to ask the chef?? Claim to be dog friendly but couldn’t accommodate our dog so very disappointed. Soft drinks were flat, never bothered with food due to all the above so we left

Called in after a late afternoon walk with a couple of children to find the Pub unexpectedly busy. The young staff got us some drinks and managed to squeeze us into the dining room. The food from the menu was very good and given the current climate fairly priced. The staff accommodated minor changes without faff and service from Katy? was great. We look forwards to visiting again the next time we are around.

It is a "Free House" that has a selection of local and brand beers. Delicious and varied food menu selection sold at reasonable prices! Rear outside tables offer a pleasant vista. The licensee and staff are welcoming and efficient. At peak times service can be a little slow but that is the pace of life in a small village. Book your advance table to avoid disappointment.

Lovely beer. Warm fire. Not enough food. Landlady lacked any charm to why we could not order food. They clearly had space. Sign of a kitchen being run too lean. Staff were employed for a full house which must mean they were shaving on the food portions to save money. Looking at the food coming out of the kitchen, it all looked Frozen and Fried so it's hard to understand why a pub on the Pennine way can't serve food to weary walkers and is happy to rudely turn them away. I saw 3 parties been given the same treatment. .

I arrived at 4 and told landlady I wanted food, she said they start serving at 5:30, the pub wasn't busy but my order wasn't taken until 5:50. A couple came in at 5:20 asking if they could have takeaway as they were being picked up at 6, they were told no takeaway but they would get food in time, it was 20 minutes before their order was taken, their food was served on plates at 6:05 as their lift arrived, they did get it to take away in the end. A couple booked by email but it wasn't on the system, the woman tried to order food but was told the chef wasn't ready for more orders yet (they were the 5th table of the day). A couple booked by phone for 6:00 their reservation was not on the system, at 6:30 (when I left) their order still hadn't been taken. Staff made a comment about pennine way walkers making subtle hints for attention when they saw me limping (behind my back but loud enough for me to hear), I was limping because I have damaged my spinal cord, not for attention. Food was great, the way the restaurant was run was a shambles and it was a bit unprofessional to here the barstaff making assumptions about me.

This pub sits in the small village of Dufton. You will need to book. What a gorgeous place. Very friendly staff, and they love dogs. Good local menu which will test your resolve to start a diet. We had baked Brie starter, and then I had the fish pie and my partner, the venison burger (stag burger]. The fish pie was so tasty, and packed with a whole shoal of fish, and gorgeous well seasoned red cabbage and carrots. The stag burger, came with coleslaw, salad and chips. Very good portions, and very hot. We had to try a pud, and this we shared, chocolate brownie and ice cream. And now we diet. Good range of ale as well. All in all a great place, and we want to move in.

The stag in, know locally as the stagger out. Or so I have been told by wilf the spoon bender from the village. A good pub, but sadly when my family and friends visited covid was restricting our experience. Hence only 4 stars. Its is a good old low ceilinged traditional country village pub. The decor is good and the layout pretty big with a restaurant/ dining area out the back. Tables out side the front also. The rear beer garden has amazing views over the fells. Staff were great and followed guidelines we all gave to stick to. Off the beaten track, but the well known and really worth doing hike, of high nick cup starts from dufton village. One of England's best natural areas for a really good walk. Go visit both.
