Had a good day out on the hill. Asked for a cappuccino, presented with a small glass with cappuccino in it. On measuring the fluid, we had paid £3.50 for half a cup/mug, not impressed. Its a walkers pub, trying to present this drink as if it was something special. The management need to be fair and get rid of those awful glasses.

Didn’t book a stay here but myself and my partner were in the Lakes for our 10 year anniversary. My partner found this place after looking around Google maps for a real, countryside, warm, welcoming atmosphere that does some amazing food! The pictures we came across were exactly what we was looking for so we decided to head there and conveniently it was only a short drive from where we were. The drive there, once off of the main road, takes you down a narrow country lane which is a lovely scenic drive in itself until you happen across the smallest village, Mungrisdale, where this inn is located. As we walked in, it was exactly what we were looking for. Local pub atmosphere, anyone welcome, dogs in the corner and wood burning fire place on providing the heat you can only describe as a warm hug you only get from your grandma when she’s wearing that knitted cardigan! We ordered our food and waited with the utmost anticipation and all for good reason. My partner ordered the breaded Brie wedges for starters and myself the chilli and garlic prawns. A favourite of mine. Both were cooked to absolute perfection and were the perfect opener to the rest of the evening. Needless to say they returned to the kitchen without a crumb left on the plates. I ordered a rump steak for myself and my partner the spinach and sweet potato pie. If held off of ordering steak for a while after a few bad ones but after seeing the image of this rump steak that we found online, I decided to give it a go. Ordered medium rare and it was cooked to absolute perfection! Juices flowing, more than enough sauce, chips with a little bit of a crunch and the perfect amount of seasoning. Hands down the best steak I have ever had, so much so, it made me a little emotional. I simply won’t order another steak as it will never compare to this one. My partner isn’t a pie lover but decided to give this one a go and the gamble paid off. Exquisitely cooked, a lovely creamy mash which still held its fluffiness at the same time and veg that just accompanied it perfectly. Unfortunately, we aren’t locals to the lakes but with absolute certainty, whenever we are back we will be eating from here again! They don’t advertise so you won’t see much on their socials so let me do that for you. Make sure you go, stay the night or two, but whatever you do, make sure you at least eat here. If you walk up Bowscale Tarn, it is the perfect place to visit when driving back, on the regional route 71, refuel before heading back on your way. You absolutely will not regret it!

This pub is set in a beautiful location and looks inviting. Inside is a very nice place to be, clean and would would suit couples or groups. Our dog was welcome. The menu was varied and would suit most people and the food was presented nicely and very tasty. All the staff were very pleasant and made us all very welcome. This is a place we will be coming back to and telling our friends and family about. (Note, no comment regarding the rooms as we didn't stay there)

I travelled to The Mill Inn alone, and was my first solo travel. Had a very warming welcome, into such a cosy, hearty inn. Staff were polite and friendly. I stayed in one of the twin rooms, front facing, and the view was nice. Had a very nice sleep, with a comfy bed. Tea, coffee and hot chocolates in the room. With a selection of biscuits. Which was a nice touch. I woke up with the birds singing, which was lovely. My breakfast in the morning was a full English, one of the best I’ve had in a while. I went to the Aira Force waterfalls, high and low peak. Which were only 17 minutes drive from the inn. Plenty of walks on your doorstep, and many just short minutes drive. Penrith is 15 minutes down the road, where you can go shopping, sight seeing etc. But when arriving back to the inn, you’re in a quiet area, away from busy roads, which makes the experience even better. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and have booked again for June. Thank you again for a lovely time. Kayleigh.

Bed and breakfast at its best 😃🐶 What a beautiful, tranquil, dog friendly spot, a short distance from Penrith with log fires, a warm welcome with clean, cosy accommodation. We enjoyed bed and breakfast and a home cooked evening meal from a traditional pub food menu. The rump steak was delicious as was the Cumberland Sausage and mash with fresh veg and gravy. There is a pleasant outdoor space with a bbq area where i was pleasantly surprised to find the owners growing their own potatoes as well as fresh herbs. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. There’s plenty of outdoor seating at the front of the Mill Inn and a car park for around 10 cars. Just in front of the pub and ahead of the car park is a small wooden bridge, crossing a fast flowing river. We loved our stay and will definitely stay again.

First of all I would say that this pub is lovely and welcoming, the staff are really friendly. We have frequented this pub in the past and came for its famous pies. The food we had was ok, but I really feel was lacking in attention to detail. The pies appeared to be pie shells filled with a chosen filling, and then topped with a pasty "biscuit", not really a proper pie. The most disappointing aspect of the meal though was the vegetables, a very megar portion of carrots, peas and cauliflower, all unseasoned and very bland, like really really tiny portion. I don't think it would take much effort or money to improve this aspect. I think for a large group to serve the vegetables separately could work well, and make more flavoursome side dishes, ie cauliflower cheese, roasted vegetables. I feel the services was a little slow and inattentive, we ordered drinks at the bar during our meal as opposed to being offered. I don't know I don't want this review to put people off going here, as it is a nice pub and the staff seem lovely, I just want to put across that it lacks a little something that I think could be easily be improved.

Staying in Mungrisdale again but over the Christmas holidays, we were looking forward to eating here after its refurbishment. They asked for 48hrs notice if we would like the Christmas menu, so we emailed our requested food at least a week before our booking. On arrival, they gave us the standard menu, but we said we had preordered the Christmas menu. We were seated, ordered our drinks, and shortly afterwards a young waitress came over to tell us the starter we had chosen was unavailable 🤷‍♀️ How? We preordered? With little explanation, my Husband asked if we can order starters off the standard menu, this was fine, so we chose our starters. Mid way through eating said starters, the young waitress once again came over, to tell us there was no Turkey dinner available 🤷‍♀️ Now this was totally unacceptable! Firstly I had asked when told the starter wasn’t available if the Turkey was, and we were told yes?? Also, knowing the Turkey wasn’t available, why didn’t they just tell us from the start, rather than wait until we had started eating? If they had, we could have made an informed decision, eat there or go back to our cottage instead. At this point a more senior member of staff came over. She apologised over and over, and said our booking wasn’t marked as a Christmas menu booking, even though she found the email saying otherwise. She then said we could order anything off the standard menu instead, and if it totalled more than the Christmas meal they would waiver the difference. My husband asked, if our choices were cheaper could we just pay for what we ate, and she agreed. So, totally disappointed, we found something we would eat and placed our order. I chose Sausage and Mash, and my Husband ordered fish and chips (Happy Christmas yeh 😞). The meal was okay, nothing outstanding to be honest. We were offered a free drink so we ordered those, finished our meal and drinks and asked for the bill. The young waitress came over, and urgh, they had charged us the price of the Christmas menu, which wasn’t what was agreed if the food was cheaper. My husband asked to be re-billed, we paid the correct amount and left. The next day my Husband called to speak to the Manager who wasn’t in until later. He left our number and decided to email instead. The response was that they were looking into it. We are home now, with no response whatsoever from the Manager about this. Firstly I would like to say how sorry I felt for the young waitress. She was clearly uneasy (may be new), was so apologetic, but she seemed to have to deal with a situation that a senior member of management should have dealt with from the start. Secondly, we had decided the pub would be our Christmas lunch, and so we had catered simply for the actual day. No Turkey dinner for us 😔 Thirdly, the whole experience was shocking from start to finish, well, there was no finish because we didn’t hear back from anyone! I’ve worked in hospitality, and would not have deliberately spoilt someone’s Christmas meal. But they did, they knew from the start we weren’t going to get what we ordered. Sadly we didn’t return as we had planned before arriving, we ventured out to eat which given this pub was a two minute walk from where we were staying, well, 😡

This is the second stop over we’ve had at this lovely pub. Since we last stayed, they’ve had a recent refurbishment and the place looks great! The Mill Inn sits above a river at the top of the Lake District and is a great base for walkers/bikers/cyclists or like us, a place to rest up and recharge on the journey home from Kent to Argyll & Bute The choice of local ales and locally sourced food adds to the experience and being dog friendly is real bonus for us. All the staff are really friendly and keen to help and advise. I really can’t recommend The Mill Inn highly enough.

We stayed here the night before the pub closes for a few weeks for refurbishment. The staff were very welcoming and efficient and the food was fantastic. My chicken pie was the best I’ve ever tasted and my husband’s huge gammon steak was cooked perfectly. Our breakfast this morning was equally delicious and generous. There was even a sausage for our dog! Good luck with the refurbishment and we’ll be back next year!

Me and my fiancé decided last minute to find a nice little room to stay over and as soon as we pulled up we realised we visited here for a meal the same time last year ! We were so happy because our previous visit was very good and the staff was lovely to us , so we knew we were in for a nice stay, the staff are all so lovely and welcoming , we was showed into our room which was nice and clean ! The new bathrooms where lovely too, I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone who is in the area! The breakfast was lovely too! 😊

Fabulous Sunday lunch. Portions were generous and service great apart from collecting empty plates so never got chance to see the pudding menu! Hopefully next time as we will be back :)

We eat here regularly - it’s a proper country pub and at the heart of the village. Great food, good beer, friendly atmosphere. Seven of us booked last night for a family celebration and had a lovely time. Between us we had a big selection off the menu and all the dishes were tasty and generous. Highlights were the lamb samosa starters, the beef rib bourguignon main and the sticky toffee pudding dessert. Thanks for having us.
