Fabulous Sunday lunch. Portions were generous and service great apart from collecting empty plates so never got chance to see the pudding menu! Hopefully next time as we will be back :)

This place is local to us and it appears a nice causal pub which does what it says on the tin. However, we arrived for our reserved table and were seated by a friendly server, when we sat the table was filthy and I had to ask her to clean it. She did and said apologies we have been busy , but that unfortunately was the theme of the night, we had to constantly ask to have more drinks, starters removed etc , they were just not quite staffed enough. The second thing that was the one you couldn’t grin and bear was the fact that upon booking a Saturday night table there is nothing to tell you it’s Karaoke night ! So while you’re having dinner with family , there are two people singing Proud Mary on loud mics 10ft away ! Not an experience we want to repeat unfortunately

An excellent experience here yesterday evening. My husband and I arrived and hadn’t booked a table, however they made some adjustments and we were seated. The menu looked great we didn’t quite know where to start! However we ordered two starters, a main each and a pudding between us. The food was presented very well, was so tasty, and super generous portions. I particularly enjoyed the steak and ale pie! It was a step up from your generic pub food. We’re very pleased we came here and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending! The service was friendly, attentive and welcoming.

Enjoyed lunch here today ( 14/4) our lunches were delicious - homemade steak & ale pie and very tender lamb shank . Generous portions with lovely trimmings of fresh vegetables and chips or mash. Service was efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend this pub for good value freshly cooked delicious food, served with a smile . ( also thanks for lending us a brolly so we could have a walk in the rain lunch !) Little acts of kindness make all the difference

Delicious food, really friendly staff. We arrived after food stopped serving but they allowed us to order food and it was one of the best meals we've had in Penrith. Would 100% recommend

Came here as we were looking for a place to eat on our way home from the lakes. We went in and asked for a table for 2, the girl who served us was pretty abrupt and it came across as if were an inconvenience, she said she needed the table back within the hour which was absolutely fine. It wasn't explained whether it was table service or we had to order at the bar so we went up and she was pretty rude about that. We both got the smokey burger which came with Fries. This was average at best. The burger was very well done and there wasnt any garnish on the burger it was literally just cheese, burger and the sauce. The fries were just your average frozen fries. The beer selection was decent behind the bar. The overall atmosphere was strange as it was fully of locals who were sat at the bar, it came across as one of those pubs that don't really like newbies. The conversations between the locals and the bar staff were completely inappropriate and they were speaking really loudly where everyone could hear. By this point we were the only customers left in the restaurant and one of the locals actually said "we're probably spoiling those girls' meal" and the girl behind the bar responded with "Oh I don't care". We were bothered by the content of their conversations, they were pretty funny (they wouldn't be to most people) it was more the attitude of the staff. And it was the fact that one of the locals came over and apologised. Pretty shocking really. Below average experience.

Giving all five star staff are super friendly! And the food tastes fantastic! Very good big portions and definitely worth the money! Also the bar have a good range of drinks! Took mother hen for mothers day and she absolutely loved it! Will definitely come back in the future! ❤️

Our dog walk on the first sunny Sunday morning of Spring. We ended up stopping for lunch! Faultless food: tender, moist roast beef; crisp roast potatoes; parsnips just right and decent gravy. Can't wait till we move nearer, and this place will be our new local.

The food took a while to arrive but it was very tasty. The halloumi fries were excellent! And the steak and ale pie was delicious. The dining area upstairs is very nice and cosy, with a balcony and panoramic views which must be amazing to enjoy in the summer.

This is our new local pub. The menu is not huge but food is lovely, trying different dishes when we go.

Visited for a family meal while staying at Center Parcs nearby and was so glad we did. A little hard to find as the Open Table address takes you to an housing estate, but eventually found. Really good service and the food was excellent quality and very generous portions. The salt and pepper chicken was exceptional. If you're in the area, it's well worth the visit

Dog friendly but very very poor service. Asked for menus on arrival to be told kitchen was now closed by a member of staff, except other members of staff were continuing to give out menus to people walking in for the next hour.

Very friendly people both in patrons and staff alike. I had the mix chicken and beef Sunday roast and I really enjoyed it. Particularly the variety of sides including both mash and roasted potatoes, parsnip mash and broccoli. Very fine dinner and a good place to watch a football match.

Lovely pub ,old fashioned charm with a modern feel , a central log burner definitely helps you feel at home …amazing food , very helpful staff , 10/10

Meeting family halfway this was the first time we have been to the Cross Keys, Carleton near Penrith. And what a great place from the welcome in the bar right through to the chat we had after paying the bill. It was Sunday lunch so we kinda knew what to expect, but it was better than we expected. Enough variety on the menu and lovely tasty hot great quality food all round. All the team were very very welcoming, pleasant and attentive. The service was great, thanks team you should be proud! Cannot recommend the Cross Keys , Carleton near Penrith enough and would definitely go there again.

It's been a long time since I was there that's where I took my my woman for the last stone arthrite to forget the place too many memories but we always enjoyed our meals and service I haven't been there for a while now that's why I didn't want to talk about it it has too many memories they were great days thank you cross keys for the wonderful time I'm not putting any pictures up

Lovely atmosphere. Steak and ale pie was tasty. Good portions. Chips felt like they had been cooled and refried, odd texture. The ribs come without being cooked in sauce, the meat was a bit tough. Pot of barbecue sauce is provided.

The food here is to die for, and the service has been utterly amazing. We came here after a spa day where we had to be good and have salad, and we're all craving burgers or steak. By the gods these guys delivered. Also, exemplary music taste. 12 stars!

We booked for a party of 15 Sunday lunch. From start to finish, booking, pre-ordering, arriving, through to leaving, totally professional, friendly, attentive staff. The food was amazing, so tasty, especially the roasts. Thanks and keep up the good work. Wish we lived nearer to visit for often. Can thoroughly recommend.

We had lunch at The Cross Keys last week when visiting Penrith. Great food, service, and atmosphere. I had the flat bread pizza and it was outstanding. Our server was very kind. This pub has a great atmosphere with seating inside and outside. Great selection of food and drinks on the menu. We really enjoyed our visit. Thank you!!

Excellent meal on Saturday night. Fish & chips excellent, tandoori flatbread & salad very tasty, desserts filling. All just at the end of our road.

Staff were helpful allowing us to pre-order over the phone (as we were going to miss cut off time for ordering when we arrived). We were told food would be ready for our arrival but waited 25 mins for food to come once we arrived. (I can understand if this is to avoid cooking for no-shows but then don’t say it’ll be ready for when we arrive). Chicken, Bacon and Leek Pie and Moving Mountains Cheeseburger were very good; sirloin steak was over cooked and regular cheeseburger was watery (but also dry!) Nice staff and dog friendly.

We ate here as this was the only pub within the area we were staying. We had a Sunday roast which came with a steak instead of your average thin slices of beef. It came with beetroot which was unusual and we had asked for mash but were told they had no mash but roast potatoes which were awful. It wasnt the best Sunday roast we have had but the flavours were there. The tables were sticky and the pub only opened at 3pm but only served food from 5-8pm which was poor. Overall we wont be returning unfortunately.

Really disappointed with the Sunday lunch Very small portions and next to no taste. The beef was like bacon rashers and over cooked The gravy was very watery and I actually waited for them to bring the veg out as I assumed it was separate to the meat but then found 2 bits of Broccoli and 2 carrot slices hidden under my Yorkshire pudding. I expected more as I had heard good reports but don’t think I would recommend or return ☹️

Great little stop off on the way to Scotland tasty food at a reasonable price and speedy service

What an amazing find, we stayed as an inexpensive stop over on our way back from Skye to Cambridge. It was dog friendly, food was great, cocktails so good, the room was clean and cosy and the people so so friendly we will be back for a long weekend of good food, comfy room and great service.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Three course Sunday roast with three meats available as well as other options. Traditional offering - sadly no stuffing with the chicken! perfectly acceptable but nothing to shout home about.

The good bits: Nice looking place. Felt warm and is dog friendly. Great food. Really tasty. The servers were nice too. In that sense I would recommend this place. Good sized portions for adults and kids. We went in for our booking at 2pm and there appeared to be one girl serving on the bar and trying to get people seated. Not her fault at all but we stood for about 15/20 mins just to get to our table. We ordered pretty quickly and waited just over an hour for food to come out. When it arrived it was great but, hangry kids made it a long wait. I'm sure it was probably just understaffed for what was a lovely warm day, so I'm guessing busier than expected which probably slowed everything down.

Great food and service. Meals were lovely and staff extremely welcoming and helpful would definitely recommend.

Stopped off on our way south on a recommendation. Food was delicious, cooked to perfection and such a reasonable price. We would drive from Glasgow again just for the steak sandwiches. Staff were really lovely, warm and welcoming. We absolutely recommended you visit this wee gem as soon as you can.

Love it here food is always fantastic place could do with a little face lift only because some things are worn...but all in all fantastic

We met up with friends to do walking after the meal. Waitress was so welcoming. Menu had a great choice of food. I had duck and it was delicious. We decided to call back after the walk to have pudding and a cuppa. Even though it was busy we were well looked after . Can highly recommend

It’s hard to serve a bad Cumberland sausage but the meat was tasteless and the skin was surprisingly tough to cut through. The vegetables were also on the hard side of crunchy. The mash was the highlight of the meal. The staff were friendly and rhetorical pub’s easy enough to get to.

Absolutely fantastic, the prices looked good on the menu, as did the menu choices. When the food arrived, it was absolutely delicious. There was a group of 8 of us ages the speed with which the food came out couldn't have been better. Having enjoyed the food so much, we decided to return for pudding after completing a walk nearby. This time the pub was a lot busier, but the service was still brilliant with the pudding delicious.

Found this pub after a recommendation from the campsite we were staying at over night. Lovely local pub friendly and everyone had a smile. Was busy with lots of tables with reserved signs. Pool table and dart board (the teenager and dad were happy). Service was quick and Rebecca who took our order was so lovely,even managed to sort out the pool table as we had no change. Lovely of her and just showed how far the customer service skills went (which can be rare these days). Food was lovely and even have a dog menu which is nice our dog felt at home. Definitely comming back on our way back from our trip to Scotland.

Super friendly staff who couldn't do more to make your visit a good en, the food was awesome and I'm not saying that lightly it really was spot on, we ordered the salt & pepper chicken and a side of fried, great big portion sizes and reasonably priced! I'll definitely be going back! Well done 😎👊🏻

Needed a quick bite on our way over to stay in West Lakes - this little gem popped up on Google search under pub food and dog friendly - did not disappoint such a lovely welcome from the lady on the bar - dog made a fuss of - we had bacon and Brie baguettes with chips came with a lovely salad very well presented and generous portions - 1 wine and pint of cider £31 great value for money - highly recommended - thank you Cross Keys we will be back ❤️🙏❤️

Sunday dinner was adequate however the lemonade tasted like dish soap. I asked to have it changed and when they brought the other one back it was just extra fizzy dish soap. Service isn’t the best. Waitress looked at our empty plates multiple times and just walked away. There were also a delay for food. Pretty place to be in but services aren’t the best.

We were booked in at the Cross Keys Inn for Sunday lunch in mid April, we arrived at the pub where there is little to no parking which is okay as the road near is not busy. We walked into the bar area where we were greeted by one of the waitresses and a barman who were friendly enough. We sat upstairs in the barn-looking area which had nice views and a good atmosphere, not too busy or ram packed. We were told that there was a slight delay on food and would take an extra 20 minutes, however from ordering to my starter arriving was around 35 minutes. Food was good and tasty however drinks were not up to par, the draught fizzy drinks are terrible and not worth the price, almost as bad as drinking cheap pop from Tesco, the lemonade tasted like washing up liquid that had been carbonated and the cola was not the best either as syrup was cheap. I suggest ordering bottles or cans if visiting. Staff are far and few with empty plates sat in front of us for a good while before being cleared. No one asked us during our meal if we were enjoying it Overall, the experience was good but it is lacking that extra something to become a top pub.

We were passing through but we stopped for something to eat, it was super full, we ate very well, it's a shame the service, given the amount of work, couldn't satisfy all the customers, but it's a nice place, the beers are good

First impression was a messy car park, the pud was nicer and looked well maintained outside and in. 2 kids 4 adults and it allowed dogs. The food was good as were the dinks and service. Slightly expensive for what it was. Just a bit ordinary.

By far, one of the worst Sunday dinners I’ve ever had! God knows where the beef came from it was vile! Everything was frozen and deep fat fried! Frozen and microwaved veg! Was massively disappointed!

Went at 1.30 with a group of friends. Good menu with the Chefs special being festive hotdogs and chips. The hotdog sausage was wrapped in bacon with stuffing, brie and cranberry. It came in a toasted brioche bun. Very filling.

Used to be one of the best pubs for food in the area, Returned recently and very disappointed, Burnt pie and soggy reheated chips and paid nearly £17 for the privelage

Good basic pub meal no complaints

Service was good but food wasn’t great. We ordered fish and chips, fish was alright but not great and chips were a bit soggy. The worst thing was that the place smell like urine, we sat at a table where smell was not as strong but it put us off.

The food was really excellent here, both main (Sunday lunch) and dessert. The main was served quickly, as were the drinks, and we quickly polished off our dinner. These are not oversized portions, but they are of real quality throughout (every component of the meal was delicious). It did surprisingly take a while for dessert to arrive after such a rapid delivery of main, but they had received a few new guests in the meantime. One thing to be wary of when looking for this establishment... There is another Cross Keys Inn (without "The" in the name) about 17 miles away. Don't head towards the wrong one like we did :D

One out of our four meals was cold, one had an added hair. Service was poor; completely forgot our starters, brought our mains then starters 30 min after finishing which I returned. Bill adjusted accordingly. Very unimpressed. Will not return.

Super schönes pub mit unglaublich leckerem Essen. Die Fleischgerichte sind mega gut, perfekt gekocht. Die Burger sind noch besser: die besten Pommes weit und breit, die besten Burger buns in ganz England und auch alles zwischen den buns schmeckt hervorragend.

A great dog friendly pub serving good honest food. It's just like it should be, not rushed. Chilled service. It's a pub, not a fast food joint. Simple Sunday lunch. Pickled eggs and standard bar snacks. Dart board Pool table, great outdoors area, ample carparking, friendly staff.

Food was beautiful but service by the young waitress was poor. Mains were excellent value for money however the puddings were slightly pricey for the size at £7

1st time here, I had a burger and a pint. Proper pub, nice outdoors. Hawkshead Mosaic was awesome; added bonus of some live music from late night fiasco🤩

Sunday roast beef. Plates hot. Food warm. Beef lovely. Roast potatoes from frozen as they were dry inside with a batter like coating. Not cool. Roasters are the best part of Sunday lunch, so that really let the meal down. Lovely staff though.

We first visited about a year ago on holiday and really enjoyed our food and drinks here. This visit was for a family party, which was really enjoyable. Again, the food was excellent, and the team running and serving us were outstanding. Thank you

We had a lovely time. Food was good but mostly a shout out to Casey and Liv who went above and beyond for us. They were very friendly and helpful and made the experience that much more enjoyable.

Wouldn’t recommend this pub. The food was horrible, they failed to tell me the pudding had nuts in. The service was awful was waiting ages to be served. The atmosphere was horrible. 2 girls sat laughing at a man struggling to eat. I know it weren’t the pubs fault but still ent nice to see
