food was good, atmosphere is OK, a bit expensive and choice of beers is way too limited for a pub (only lager and bitter from the taps)

We were passing through but we stopped for something to eat, it was super full, we ate very well, it's a shame the service, given the amount of work, couldn't satisfy all the customers, but it's a nice place, the beers are good

First impression was a messy car park, the pud was nicer and looked well maintained outside and in. 2 kids 4 adults and it allowed dogs. The food was good as were the dinks and service. Slightly expensive for what it was. Just a bit ordinary.

By far, one of the worst Sunday dinners I’ve ever had! God knows where the beef came from it was vile! Everything was frozen and deep fat fried! Frozen and microwaved veg! Was massively disappointed!

Went at 1.30 with a group of friends. Good menu with the Chefs special being festive hotdogs and chips. The hotdog sausage was wrapped in bacon with stuffing, brie and cranberry. It came in a toasted brioche bun. Very filling.

Used to be one of the best pubs for food in the area, Returned recently and very disappointed, Burnt pie and soggy reheated chips and paid nearly £17 for the privelage

Service was good but food wasn’t great. We ordered fish and chips, fish was alright but not great and chips were a bit soggy. The worst thing was that the place smell like urine, we sat at a table where smell was not as strong but it put us off.

The food was really excellent here, both main (Sunday lunch) and dessert. The main was served quickly, as were the drinks, and we quickly polished off our dinner. These are not oversized portions, but they are of real quality throughout (every component of the meal was delicious). It did surprisingly take a while for dessert to arrive after such a rapid delivery of main, but they had received a few new guests in the meantime. One thing to be wary of when looking for this establishment... There is another Cross Keys Inn (without "The" in the name) about 17 miles away. Don't head towards the wrong one like we did :D

One out of our four meals was cold, one had an added hair. Service was poor; completely forgot our starters, brought our mains then starters 30 min after finishing which I returned. Bill adjusted accordingly. Very unimpressed. Will not return.

A great dog friendly pub serving good honest food. It's just like it should be, not rushed. Chilled service. It's a pub, not a fast food joint. Simple Sunday lunch. Pickled eggs and standard bar snacks. Dart board Pool table, great outdoors area, ample carparking, friendly staff.

Food was beautiful but service by the young waitress was poor. Mains were excellent value for money however the puddings were slightly pricey for the size at £7

Sunday roast beef. Plates hot. Food warm. Beef lovely. Roast potatoes from frozen as they were dry inside with a batter like coating. Not cool. Roasters are the best part of Sunday lunch, so that really let the meal down. Lovely staff though.

We had a lovely time. Food was good but mostly a shout out to Casey and Liv who went above and beyond for us. They were very friendly and helpful and made the experience that much more enjoyable.

Wouldn’t recommend this pub. The food was horrible, they failed to tell me the pudding had nuts in. The service was awful was waiting ages to be served. The atmosphere was horrible. 2 girls sat laughing at a man struggling to eat. I know it weren’t the pubs fault but still ent nice to see

This place was a great find it was very peaceful. We stayed in a chalet in the grounds of the pub and we had a lovely stay. We recommend the pizzas - very tasty. We had a good breakfast.

Good venue excellent food friendly staff

We ate downstairs as had dog with us. Sunday dinner was fairly basic. Mash, sweet potato mash and red cabbage. No other veg. Roasties seemed deep fried. It wasn’t bad. Just nothing special. Wouldn’t go bk. Two flies buzzing round us. Don’t know what other meals like. Saw a burger on way out and looked ok. Staff friendly. Very noisy families in when we were in which may have made atmosphere worse than normally would be.

If I could rate it lower than a 1 then I would. I popped in for a drink (4 of us) we were asked if we booked for food (no). That was the only interaction any staff had with us the whole 10 to 15 minutes we waited for a drink at the bar. A polite, "I'll be with you shortly" might have helped. We ended up just walking out without any acknowledgement. We spend lots of money in lots of different pubs around the country. This was the worst pub experience ever. AVOID

The venue is great, but it was let down completely by the staff. Everything they did, I felt I was really putting them out and at one point thought I was in a 'Karen's Dinner'. This was really disappointing as the food was great.

The best Steak and Ale Pie I have ever had.. Must have been over 20 times over the last 5 years and never managed to pick anything from the menu other than the pie. 8 years or so since my first review, the Steak and Ale is still just as good.

Called in to the cross keys on our way to cumbria. Not the most friendly welcome from the landlord but the food was outstanding, we all had fish and chips, freshly cooked,piping hot and delicious. Reasonable prices.

Took 25 minutes after being sat down before we were offered a drink. We ordered our food at the same time as outr drinks. Our food, 2 Sunday Roasts, arrived 5 minutes later, the drinks took another 10 minutes to arrive. The food was OK, but nothing better than average. When our plates were cleared away we were not offered desserts, and after waiting 15 minutes, hoping someone would bring a dessert menu, we left, and found two of the service staff stood at he end of the bar doing very little. Our previous visit was a similar experience. We won't be going back.

This is the 2nd time we have been for Sunday dinner, booking is a must. Must be tried

TLDR: Food was ok, but this was a terrible dining experience. Slow, unresponsive, and lacking communication. We arrived at 5, for an early bite for my brother's birthday. On arrival we had a confusing welcome with none of the staff acknowledging us. It was obvious they were busy... After being seated, we waited 15 or 20 minutes for a drink order. The drinks arrived about 10 minutes after. Our food order was not taken until 45 minutes after we were first seated (and asking twice for it to be taken). Another 40 or so minutes passed, at which point I approached the staff to let them know we had a time constraint, and that if the kitchen hadn't started cooking the food we'd be ok to cancel the order, settle the bill and leave. The staff informed me it was currently being cooked, so we decided to wait. 15 minutes later still no food.... Long story short, we had to leave due to the time, they had no takeaway boxes - so we ended up with cling film wrapped plates. The food was ok. The story goes on and is much longer and convoluted than this, but to be honest I can't be bothered to spend anymore time reviewing this restaurant. I'm gutted that we couldn't have a nice meal for my brother's birthday. I also feel sorry for the serving staff, the management really let them down.

I booked a meal for myself and 2 children. I found the staff to be polite and welcoming. We ordered our food, which was ok. However I ordered a starter and a side salad, which was on the menu. I was informed that there was no salad so I ordered something else instead. One of the children ordered a steak which was served with a bowl of salad! Really!!! This was disappointing. We were kept waiting a long time between courses, which I felt was not necessary as it was not overly busy. When it came to paying the bill I was asked if I wanted to leave a tip, I did not appreciate being asked outright, if I had wanted to tip I would have done so without being asked. For these reasons I have awarded 3 stars.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch on Saturday letting him know we had a dog when we arrived they realised They had made a mistake so we seated in the games room where people were playing darts not an ideal place to have your Sunday So not a very dog friendly

Just average. Group had 2 roast dinners but they had frozen roast potatoes, frozen cauliflower cheese and Carvery taste meat. 2 kids burgers which were awful, neither of my kids ate them. Really disappointed as the reviews seemed to be good. My advice...there are better nearby places that serve homemade pub food so go there.

Wasn't too busy when I stopped for food. Friendly and attentive staff. Dog friendly which I needed while traveling with the mini horse. Food was tasty. Only thing that left a sour taste in mouth was if adding a tip for staff by card it wouldn't be passed onto waiting staff.

Fabulous night really great pub and top food, busier than usual, for a Wednesday evening too, so may need to book a table if you eating.

The food was outstanding; home cooked/fresh and you could not fault the service. The bar service was very good also and nice selection of beer. One of Penrith’s hidden gems.

Stopped off here for a lunch on way to Glasgow. Fantastic inside with nice table layout & bar. Food menu was very good also catering for vegetarian options. Food was excellent, good size portions & home cooked. Vegetarian option, we had was Red onion & Squash Tagine with rice awesome meal as was the home made steak pie with veg. Would go back again.

Really disappointing service, had to ask for drinks after 15 mins wait having, having to wait for cutlery whilst dinner got cold because they had run out and not controlling a large party who were treating it as a games room ! Food was good.

Booked through Wowcher and then contacted hotel and booked for the 15th of April. They have now turned around and said the booking doesn’t exist for that date but have redeemed the Wowcher lining their pockets. It’s an absolute scam and they are thief’s! Customer service is appalling, manager talking over people on the phone and then keeps hanging up! Will be reported to trading standards and watchdog

Food really nice but the service was very slow, no heating on, so very cold, sat with coat on the whole time. Waiting staff need to learn what drinks are available and ask if not sure as fruit cider is not a wine nor is it cider and black. Also they should know what food they are bringing to the table and not just put it on the table hoping for the best.Won't be rushing back.

We had a belated 21st for my daughter who had Covid for her birthday, there was 19 of us and our food was all brought out at the same time, was very hot and all steaks were cooked to how we requested. Cant fault at all. They made a fuss of her and let us take the cake and balloons early. Well done!

One of the best roast dinners I have had, very beautiful pub and friendly staff and food is amazing , shame I do not live closer 😅
