We stayed a night at the Hollies to break up a long trip home from Cornwall, choosing it based mainly on location (halfway along our route) and availability; from the (worryingly long and comprehensive) menu we were expecting at best some standard pub food. After checking in to our cosy room (reviewed separately) and freshening up, we strolled over to the restaurant in the evening sun. Outside tables looked tempting but we decided to stay indoors in case things cooled down later on; the old building has been lovingly cared for and provides a cosy and attractive setting, dimly lit with old photographs decorating the stone walls. glass barriers separating tables and keeping things quiet and peaceful. The staff were all extremely attentive and helpful, easily catering for a few adjustments to dishes without quibble, and in no time we were settled in with (excellent) drinks in hand and our food choices booked in. The fishcake starter was delightful, perfectly done and just the right size to set up the appetite, but the pork belly main was simply amazing, absolutely delicious and a real revelation, accompanied by a perfect little cake of dauphinoise potato. Steak was also extremely good apparently, and was wolfed down pronto. After that we were sadly too full for desserts, and indeed were still not hungry for breakfast in the morning; will definitely have to come back, perhaps for a longer stay to work through the rest of the menu.

What a beautiful pub! From the dark wood interior, to the kind and friendly staff (particularly our waitress Eleanor who was absolutely brilliant!) and the delicious food I was left stuffed and chuffed! I had the most amazing Crispy pork belly followed by an indulgent banoffee pie. What a TREAT!100% coming back soon! You don't wanna miss out on this place!

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and ate in the pub each night. The rooms were very nice, the bed slightly on the firm side for us. The food in the pub was good quality, not fancy, more pub food and decent portions and something to suit everyone. The breakfasts were good. Would definitely recommend staying and eating here. However what impressed us the most was the staff. Very professional, extremely friendly and constantly wanting to please and get everything right to give a good customer experience. My husband asked if they had any croissants left for breakfast one busy Sunday morning, they said they would pop more in the oven and it would be about 15 mins which was fine as hubby wanted them after his cooked breakfast. When they were ready, instead of just putting them on the buffet, the waiter came with the whole stack and offered my husband first choice. We both thought that was very thoughtful and just one example on how good the staff were. It must be very hard at the moment for any restaurant who probably lost most of their regular staff last year, but this place has really done well in getting such super staff.

We had the very unfortunate experience of having to eat at the restaurant at the Hollies. There were five in our party, manage to get drinks and a first course but after that the service went downhill very quickly and by the end we just left this was after three waiting staff asked if we would like a dessert and then just disappeared, it was shocking, I don’t think that I’ve every been treated so badly. If your planing a visit don’t bother, save your time and money and find somewhere else.

My wife, mum and I enjoyed a real treat when we visited The Hollies last night (24th October ‘20).OK My steak was overcooked as was my wife’s tuna but we all enjoyed the 3 courses and the service was absolutely superb. My mum doesn’t like al-denté vegetables so they cooked hers a little more and all the staff were very attentive throughout the evening.Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to thank them verbally but I am hoping this review will be seen and shown to them.Thank you and we will be back!

My husband and I went for a meal on the 10th August for my birthday and it was our first meal out together since lockdown. We sat outside as it was a beautiful evening and the lay out was great and more than enough safe distance between tables. My husband had the tuna steak and I had the hunters chicken which was the best I’ve EVER tasted and cooked to perfection I had the salted caramel brownie for pudding which was divine and my husband had the biggest bit of sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever seen! Delicious food and fantastic staff. A very relaxing evening. Thank you to all involved.

Visited the Hollies for the first time, for an anniversary dinner. Restaurant was nicely laid out, and was quiet, but just lacked something.Main menu was very broad, but was obviously not updated that often as printed and plastic.Food was good, portion sizes on the larger side, and well presented. Was happy to pay, but felt I would get the same for less at similar establishments.

We have eaten here on a number of occasions and have always been wowed by the quality of food and service.Kitchen staff have always managed to be flexible enough to accept little changes to the menu.Front of house staff.... brilliant !This is not a pretentious place serving your meal with foam and three peas, but rather recognisable items cooked in the very best possible way.So lucky to live not far away. !!

We had been for a meal a couple of months previous and it was amazing so when we had to think of somewhere nice to take our friends this was the first place on your minds. The menu is great and covers everything you could fancy. The meals themselves are absolutely delicious and great portions. Pudding are equally as divine. And all for a reasonable price, it’s a must visit. The staff are always really friendly and helpful, our friends had their baby daughter with them and the staff were wonderful and accommodating of her. Genuinely made for a really relaxing and enjoyable meal. We cannot wait to be back!

The evening before Mothers day our two daughters treated us all to a meal at The Hollies Restaurant. I had driven past the restaurant countless times but had never considered eating there before. The restaurant is in a very old building that has been very tastefully converted and beautifully decorated, all the staff were very friendly and informative helping us with the menu and informing us of the progress of our meal in the kitchen. The food was very nicely presented and tasted wonderful. There was almost too much on the extensive menu to choose from - looks we'll be going back several times from now on until I've eaten my way through the menu!.Given the lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, the great staff and lovely food the prices are very reasonable.

Managed to book an early table at the last minute on Saturday evening. The place was fully booked otherwise with a couple of large groups. This was my first time here. There is a large car park at the rear which is easy to access. Lovely cosy interior. Heavy wood furniture and old world charm. Nice fire in the bar inglenook fireplace. Extremely friendly efficient staff. Well done to the management team. Easy menu. Approx 7 starters, 10 mains and 7 desserts to choose from. Ordered the sirloin steak and the lamb. Nicely presented, didn’t wait long for the food. Would definitely come again.

This hotel and restaurant is very friendly, with staff going out of their way to assist, inform and make your stay comfortable. The food was just lovely at every meal. The locality had a super rural feeling with easy access to major roads. All in all the stay at this hotel was well worth the experience and will be visited again.

In the main the food was very well cooked but nothing stood out as fabulous food. The starter ribs were well cooked and tender but slightly dry and not that tasty. One steak was a bit chewy. Both the stirfied veg and the sauté potatoes with the duck were slightly over cooked. The tuna did not come with veg or salad which was a little odd.The puddings were ok.

The old world [17th century] house in which the restaurant is situated oozes charm [e.g. open fires]. Both the dinner menu and wine list are excellent, the food delicious and served by friendly staff. The breakfast menu [full English or continental] is as one would expect from such a wonderful hotel / restaurant. The restaurant itself is across the courtyard from the hotel. The only downside is the high noise level when the restaurant is full - I suggest that you ask to sit on a side table rather than at the long table down the centre of the room! We will certainly eat here again!

Beginning with a lovely glass of wine on the terrace, we joined our friends in the dining room for a luxurious meal. The food choices are diverse with much of it being locally sourced. My choice was the crab cakes for a starter, yummy, then for the main course I chose the pan fried tuna. The tuna was beautifully prepared and served. The portion sizes were very generous, actually more than I could eat. Service was excellent, very friendly and responsive, yet not intrusive. A wonderful evening enjoyed by all.

Ate here last Saturday and Sunday evenings whilst staying at the Hotel on a B&B; deal. The restaurant area apparently used to be an old butchers/slaughter house which has been given a very good makeover. It has a very good ambiance even when it is quiet which it was particularly on the Sunday evening when there was also a restricted menu. Having said that the food on both evenings was very nice, perfectly cooked and well presented. The staff were also very good so we had two enjoyable evenings.

The Hollies restaurant is situated within the Hollies Hotel at Bower Hinton near Martock Somerset. There is a large car park at the rear and also an entrance into the restaurant and bar area. The first thing that grabs your attention when you walk in (especially if its cold) are the huge gas log effect fires at each end of the building, that radiate the heat and glow that is most welcoming. There is ample seating, and I estimate that it has a seating capacity of around 50+. The staff are really friendly and there is a good range of food available. We both had steaks that were tender, correctly cooked, and very very tasty. Great place to eat on an evening (They don't open lunchtimes) 8/9 out of 10

We were visiting friends in the area, and they recommended The Hollies. There was a good, wide choice, and we both delighted to see there was swordfish on the menu, which is one of our favourite things, and you don't see it very often. It was absolutely delicious. I would go so far as to say it was the nicest we've ever had. We also had the cheesecake - absolutely fabulous. Our friends were also very happy with their choices. It's just as well we don't live in the area, we would probably move in!

Booked for dinner but on arrival, they thought we had booked for buffet, fortunately they had a table for us within a short time so we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, which is fabulous and then went for a lovely meal in the Bistro, it is a small and intimate restaurant and quite modern and food is served on hot rocks, which you cook yourself to your own taste. Nice concept and food was really lovely BUT find that it gets pretty smoky when it is very busy. This is not a unique concept to us and it was a very nice change. Service was attentive and good and wine selection is great. Little pub at the Langport Arms is friendly and wonderful for pre or post drinks too.

What a delightful place to stay at. We stayed for a couple of nights to visit the surrounding area and had the friendliest welcome and comfortable stay. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and was cooked to order with local produce. Cannot wait to return.
